** U S A. 5920, Sept 1 at 0206, the night frequency of WTWW 9930 is on
again, but 5085, the night frequency of 9475, is not. Then early UT
Sept 1, George McClintock sends 5 photos captioned:

``WTWW glass capacitor -- first picture is a bypass capacitor in the
#2 driver stage put there by a previous person. The capacitor should
be an RF Glass cap. The German engineer found this when inspecting the
#2 transmitter. 2nd pix is the glass replacement. 3rd, glass in place
in the #2 transmitter`` and:

``WTWW: #1 transmitter freq. change -- first pix is the bad capacitor
in the #1 transmitter that prevented it from changing frequencies. A
new capacitor was put in.  Works fine now. 2nd pix shows the wrong
spacing for the motor to the capacitor.
Spacers were put in which made the frequency change work better.

** U S A. Re deadair 91.5 KSNS and unheard 101.7 KREJ, Medicine Lodge
KS, being owned by ``Florida Public Radio``, this is not an error. It
so happens that this FPR is a PRIVATE gospel-huxtering group, forcing
the *REAL* PUBLIC RADIO stations in FL to aggroupize themselves as
Florida Public MEDIA! And the KSNS/KREJ connexion in KS goes wayback
per noncomradio.net, the website reached by search on Florida Public
Radio, listing among its O&O stations, KREJ since Sept 1990, and KSNS
since May 2000. They also have a couple in Iowa. Shows different ex
post facto slogan for KREJ was or is: ``Kansas Radio Exhalting
Jesus`` FPR HQ is WPIO 89.3 Titusville. Has one KS or the other
axually been a satellite relay of WPIO all these years? After all,
WPIO means ``We Pass It On``. If FPR is the real owner of the KS
stations, why is the KS widow wanting to sell them? (Glenn Hauser, OK,

** U S A. 100.3, caradio still tuned where I got Iowa earlier today,
at first nothing, but as I move the car slightly, I begin to hear some
station, Aug 31 at 2332 UT, soon non-ID as ``100.3 Jack FM``. Unless
it`s a 200-watt translator in AZ, WTFDA FMDB shows this is: ``KJKK
100.3 DALLAS TX 97.0 kW 574.2 m 32-35-02 96-57-48 HD 28D2 JACK~ FM -
Song/Title Song/Artist Adult Hits 100.3 JACK FM 63779`` - another bit
of extended groundwave in the 400+ km range. Last heard on May 6,

** VANUATU. 7260, Sept 1 at 0640, R. Vanuatu is on with music, S7/S8
direct. But Ron Howard and Tony Rogers report that at 0658/0659 it
switched to 3945. Presumably its harmonix of 7890, 11835, even 15780

UNIDENTIFIED. 630.03 approx., Sept 1 at 0645, LAH against 630.00
stations, not the 631 het from Cuba. Nothing in mwoffsets from USA
higher than 630.0033 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1390, Sept 1 at 0658 UT, KCRC Enid again providing
deadair. This time I try nulling very strong signal on the DX-398, and
can hear at least 3 othersigs mixing, talk and music, but can`t ID
anything as I am falling asleep until 0720. There are 1390s in
adjacent states AR, KS, NM, TX, and many more beyond mostly
low-powered at night. One still with 5 kW is WGRB Chicago but tightly
direxional northwards. Sibling 1640 KZLS also DA again, but always
much weaker in town and other 1640 station(s) audible without really

Queensland beacon again as last logged Aug 23, q.v. Really gets out.
No other beacons or phones on 10m (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5990, Aug 31 at 0051, suptorted Spanish presumably CRI relay,
S9+40/45. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba. Not much yet on 6000
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ECUADOR [and non]. 6050, UT Sat Aug 31 at 0650, song seems hymnic,
S7/S9 direct. Not ELWA as one might guess but HCJB on air long past
usual 0500*, as tipped by Manuel Méndez, Spain who was still hearing
it after 0600. Anomaly or permanent change? If so, bad news for
coreligionist ELWA Liberia which starts a bit before 0600. EiBi shows
0500* daily tho used to be extended only on weekends, and 0230*v
weekdays. Also shows another overlap when both are on 6050,
*2100-2232*. ELWA has always been no better than JBA here around
0600.

Manuel Méndez wrote: ``Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, Log in Friol.
ECUADOR, 6050, HCJB, Pichincha, with extended program today, the
station usually closes at 0500 but today on air beyond that time. At

indigenous languages left on this frequency? If I recall correct it
had been reported to be completely gone when 6050 kHz returned after a
prolonged break. Only the FM programming was observed anymore. So the
extension was presumably just a failure of a timer that is supposed to

** PANAMA. 24950 USB, Aug 30 at 2206, finally a phoneham heard on 12m
after many weeks of almost afternoonly bandscans of nothing - English
with accent about 6m, mentions Panamá. Quickly worx UStations, says
humidity of 90-95% there is a hardship, finally fonetik ID as HP1XV,
not HP1AV as it first sounded. QRZ.com:

``HP1XV Panama flag Panama, Rafael "RAFA" Ferrer Orsi, calle 3 b las
cumbres, panama 0850, Panama``

This is all he says on his page, also in Spanish but his English is
more literate:

``Dear colleagues, I would like to inform you that the BUREAU is
neither here nor expected and if that were not enough, the Panamanian
postal service only receives correspondence from abroad but does not
let out correspondence. As a radio amateur I am very clear that the
QSOs must be confirmed with their corresponding QSL card,
unfortunately this is difficult to do here but not impossible, and I
have come to the conclusion that I must adapt to this new QTH to be
able to continue enjoying this magnificent hobby, the conclusion is
that the most effective way I see to confirm is through LoTW, logbook
of the world, however, for those nostalgic for the physical QSL, they
can claim it via Spanish mail. The colleague EA5HB, who is my brother,
has offered to handle my correspondence, any contribution to pay for
the return is well received, you can also claim the QSL card via
Spanish BURO (HP1XV via EA5XV) I regret not being able to confirm
otherwise because my family finances cannot support 500 QSOs per month

off the air, S9+20/30 direct, previewing interview about anthropology
exhibition. 2202 news leads with pause in Gazawar for polio
vaccinations of children. Finally the combatants realize they have a
common enemy --- but they can hardly triage which kids are going to be
killed in the war anyway, wasting the vaccine. 17715 & 15520 are also
on but still not 15390. 2212 feature is about a street fight by
rockers in post-Franco 1974 which got worldwide publicity, and also
the Brighton Brawl in UK 60 years ago. Now there has just been a new
B.B. in Melbourne:

accentuated, altho that did not sound like the name she gave?
explaining refraxion of lite. Recheck at 2254, already off. As for the
Aug 29 at 2200 I missed checking, ``Glenn, Voice of Turkey was missing
on 11785 kHz at 2200 last night (Aug 29). I didn't find it anywhere

this hour on any SW frequency, but no doubt domestic programming in TT

** U S A. Here`s my report to VOA Grimesland: ``To:mdail@usagm.gov ---
``Hello Mr Dail, I`m listening to your DRM test around 6090. First
noticed DRM on my analog NRD-545 at 0051 UT August 31. It did not seem
to be centered on 6090, but roughly 6083-6094. I don`t have DRM
capability here so I brought up on the New Hampshire KiwiSDR:

VG reception of music only, no announcements or IDs heard but the
display showed Murrow Station, Greenville, and QSL requests to you.
Several songs followed with pauses, none in Spanish. I could not name
most of them until 0116 Beatles` Hard Days Night, but stopped at 0118
for transmitted silence, 0119 a variety of strange sounds as some
other song attempted. More of that at 0122 as I am about to dispatch
this.

I see that the drmrx schedule shows R. Marti 24 hours. This is the
first time I`ve run across tests on 6090. What are the actual
transmission hours? Does this really have anything to do with Marti?
Are you going to put that programming on it? Wonder if you will try
Journaline? I copied some of the parameters off the display, which no
doubt match what you are sending out. SNR varying 13.0 up to 15.5 dB.
xHE_AAC(1001)DRM Test Tx EEP Audio 9.76 kbps.

I would be interested to know which GB# transmitter this is, what
brand, and what else it may be used for in AM. Are there any active
DRM tests on other frequencies? I would also like to know the power
for this and antenna azimuth. I would appreciate QSL as offered. If

Also monitored with interest the brand new VOA Fulani service on 17630
AM at 1630-1700 today Friday-only apparently, August 30. Which
transmitter site is that from?

Additional info: on AM tuning, S9+20. At W1NT it showed S8. Music
heard at 0055 was soul/jazz, no ID at hourtop 0100. Pauses and other
tunes 0103 YL vocal, 0107. Still on at 0130, 0156, 0251 considerably
weakened, but off around 0300 when I went back to it after checking
5085 for WOR. DRMrx sked shows: ``6090 Radio Marti 0000-2400 Irregular
Spanish Cuba ?, USA ? ? ID:1001 reported 2024/08/23. Details to be

inbooming direct S9+50/60, so if previous sked resume, WORLD OF RADIO

** U S A. 91.5 FM, Aug 30 circa 1915 UT on caradio, KSNS Medicine
Lodge KS is *still* broadcasting dead air in $ tereo, AND Aug 31 at
1900. Slogan changed from ``Keep Singing New Songs`` to ``Keeping
Silent, No Sounds`` They should put that on their RDS. I`m
investigating this further. Would you believe that radio-locator.com
says this ``Christian Contemporary`` in KS is owned by FLORIDA PUBLIC
RADIO, address in Titusville, yet with a (620) KS AC phone?!

And website https://www.krejksns.org -- Indeed they are sibling to
KREJ 101.5 ``Keep Ready Expecting Jesus``. Maybe transitioning to FPR
ownership, however unlikely? This on website may explain why it`s
deadairing for more than a week:

** U S A. 100.3, Aug 31 at 1801 UT, routine caradio bandscan hits here
an ad for ISU Bookstore, and mentions of IOWA! DXMAP shows no Es, and
too close anyway; nor APRS map tropo, altho there is some from Iowa
into Kansas, supposedly not extending to Enid. Some more local? ads
follow, but soon fadeout. This is the only Iowan on 100.3 per WTFDA
FMDB:

Perhaps a propagational fluke, aided by airplane scatter; unseemed
meteor scatter. It`s hard to imagine ISUBS advertising outside Iowa or
even further from Ames than DM. Unless from a SBG net? First ISU FB
game of season is today but radio coverage on KCHA 95.9 at least does
not start until 1930 UT, against North Dakota in Ames (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, Aug 31 at 0656, no signal from R. Vanuatu - as soon
as I mention on WOR 2258 that it`s been reliable as of Aug 29. Ron
Howard and I did not find it on any other known frequency. I am
however getting spurbirdies every 40 kHz including 7260 from something
local, probably a computer not turned off yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 27200 USB, Aug 31 at 2205, 2- or rather multi-way net in
unknown language. A split between regular US CB channels which must
end in 5. With Queensland in on 10m, could be any Pacifican (Glenn
