Glenn Hauser logs January 23-24, 2022, follow-ups  View Printable Version

Logs
** AUSTRALIA. (5035-USB), Jen replies to my reply about C.A.R.N.:

``[WOR] C.A.R.N. Correct stream & Pod --- I am sorry if for some
reason the wrong stream was working: I was testing at 1830 UT to ten
minutes before Live Cast begins: then at 1900 UT, GB gave me the OK to
go live: The following are first the live stream of Unique Radio:
http://uk4-vn.mixstream.net:8104/index.html?sid=1
The pod is here:
https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/uniqueradioaus

From now on, I will include the above info whenever I send out in WOR
& N.A.S.W.A. or any other platform. So you can Listen to the cast ---
live or in the pod. Again, if this has caused grief, then I apologize:
to all who have tried to tune in. From Unique Radio & C.A.R.N staff,
73" & YL 33"`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** CUBA. Correxion: typo 4883 instead of 4783, fixed:
4747 & 4783 approx., Jan 20 at 0212, loud wideband scratchy
spurblobs out of 4765 R. Progreso, into Colombia SDR worse than heard
here before, but all cut off air at 0213* Something`s always wrong at
RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Jan 24 at 1553, RHC #1 legacy frequency is S9+10/20 of
dead air. Something`s always wrong at RHC. More or less nominal at
widely varying strength and modulation levels on 15230, 15140, 13700,
9710, 9535 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. Re: 6925 AM PIRATE (NORTH AMERICA) Jan 22 at 2308,
rock at S8-S9, 2309 English talk with background noise, ``-- Dog?
Radio``, ``if you don`t like it, tune your radio to a different
frequency``. Hmmm, hadn`t thought of that. Bet it`s not RCW Chile, a
prime time for it nor on 7610. These say it`s Goatherder Radio, a
Zekey station:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,91989.0.html
(Hauser, OK, via NASWA Flashsheet)

But about an hour later, this correlates better with my ``Dog`` log:

``6925 USB PIRATE (No. Am.) Small Dog Radio, 0017, 1.23.22. "Back to
origin" - periodic OTHR blasts throughout song, SSTV - late start
(fuzzy dog with sun glasses), "Fuzz soup"- both by Mud Spencer, "KONG
(Killing our natural gender) using “10 little Monkeys jumping on the
bed" - Samssun, woman ID, Off (Mark Taylor – WI, ibid.)

** SPAIN. On Fri, Jan 21, 2022 at 06:50 PM, Glenn Hauser wrote:

``Göbbels gave fascists in Spain a 20 kW Telefunken transmitter in
1936 first installed in Salamanca, then moved somewhere else, and
finally to Madrid with Franco`s victory in 1939; but WTFK??``

``1095 kHz or about 274 metres -- eventually. According to "The First
Radio War: Broadcasting in the Spanish Civil War, 1936-1939" by Alan
Davies (an interesting article but behind a paywall except for some
universities):

"When the mobile transmitter was first commissioned, it had problems
finding a clear frequency as all the internationally agreed channels
were already allocated. After using the wavelengths of various low
powered Republican transmitters, Radio Nacional officially 'settled'
on the channel of the principal 10 kW station in Madrid, Unión Radio,
EAJ-7." -- (Richard Langley``, WOR iog)

** TURKEY. 17720+, Jan 24 at 1547, JBA carrier obviously off
frequency, not measured but less than 100 Hz. As in Aoki, has to be V
of Turkey this hour only in Arabic. Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler. Hardly anything else on 16 mb, except 17630, 17660, 17830 JBA
signals or carriers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Re 198 kHz, Reply to my latest report of DI W:
``It's assumed 198 DIW is on the standby transmitter, with its "DI W"
distinctive sound of its ident. It's done this now and then over the
past several years, in fact it was completely off the air for almost a
year before it finally got fixed and back on. If Vernon the RNA Editor
noted every such occurrence, he'd soon get tired of doing that, so in
this particular case has done nothing to the RNA entry. :) 73,
Steve AA7U (veteran NDB DXer since the 1980s) Ratzlaff``

OK, no big deal but without documenting every single span, a general
note about this like yours would be helpful (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 420 MCW kHz, Jan 24 at 0710 UT, FQ, 25 watt ND beacon at
Fairmont MN, one of my ``regulars`` audible again, far enough from the
local noise peak just below 400 kHz. Also could make out 407 kHz, HRU
in Kansas, but not anything around 395 which I know exist. Noise
gradually tapers off downward to 350 kHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2122 monitoring: confirmed Sunday January 23
at 2100 on AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, via Noale SDR, good over CCI
causing a slight fast SAH. Did not have a chance to recheck whether it
played to 2129 conclusion, unlike truncation last week.

Confirmed Sunday January 23 at 2330 on WRMI 5950, VG S9+35 into
Knoxville SDR.

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 24 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, S9+20 into Missouri
SDR.

NOT confirmed UT Mon Jan 24 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, replaced without
notice by some ham radio show at 01-02 also on 5950. WRMI program sked
grid continues to claim 9395 shows during this hour are also on 9455,
NOT the case.

Confirmed UT Mon Jan 24 at 0230 on WRN North America webcast.

Confirmed UT Mon Jan 24 at 0402 tune-in already underway on Area 51
via WBCQ 6159.950, S6-S9 direct. Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary
support. Thanks this week to Moises Corilloclla, Rego Park NY, for a
check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, Jan 23 at 2010, this WRMI is quite undermodulated, on
the Maine SDR compared to just as big sigs from 15825 WWCR, 15610 WEWN
--- the latter with its persistent squeal. 15770 not making it at all
to UTwente, Euro target at 44 degrees! January 24 at 1550, 15770 is
still just barely modulated, presumably SMTV, S9+10 direct (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1130 kHz, Jan 24 at 1545 UT check, KLEY Wellington KS is
*still* dead air, S9+20 semi-local groundwave, also 24 hours vs KWKH
at night. I find it remarkable that no DX editors seem to be
interested in this incredible situation. If KLEY are not interested in
// 100.3 translator, might as well run continuous IDs as a DX test on
1130, ha. It could still be DXed from afar and logged as carrier only
if DFed to Wellington. 250 W day power (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2097.3 CW, Jan 24 at 0707 UT, single-letter beacon A
every dekasecond, from anywhere but Quartzsite AZ. Also run across a
number of times lately without logging for the record; programming is
a bit boring and inadequate. It will be news if during good condx it
not be heard again. Quite weak but sufficient (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 1717 UT January 24

Logs
** AUSTRALIA. (5035), re C.A.R.N. not being heard on the Unique Radio
stream after 1900 UT Sat Jan 22: Jen replies that I didn`t listen long
enough beyond a music break, and provides a minute-by-minute rundown
of the 2-hour show, mostly talk. In fact I did listen almost an hour;
I replied,

``Jen, Great, but this is NOT what was on the stream I was getting
from uniqueradio according to your instruxions to go there to access
it. What about the `Sounds of Your Life` which was Tim`s own show I
was hearing starting at 1957????? This was some other UR stream than
the one you were on. You obviously do not understand that you need to
publicize a direct link to your stream rather than having listeners
hunt for it at UR website. Is your show available ondemand later? I
guess this is it I haven`t tried to play yet:
https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/uniqueradioaus
73,`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9700, 6100, 6060, 6000, 5040, UT Sun Jan 23 at 0703, all
``Cuban Five`` RHC frequencies are off already; boding ill for
Esperanto at 0800. Wolfgang Buschel agrees they all went off by
0700/0701. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Sun Jan 23 at 1607, RHC Esperanto S9/+10 with
humbuzz/distortion, // much weaker 15140. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Re 94.3 KLGB-LP Enid kaput, frequency open for
translators of decent public radio stations: it`s not as if this is
the only spot a new local signal could be insqueezed; I am sure there
are others, but it`s proven as workable in Enid, so stations cannot
excuse as nowhere to go. Another ex-translator channel long open is
93.1, which used to relay KIMY 93.9 Watonga gospel huxter. Finding one
in the NCE band <92 MHz would be harder as it`s well cluttered with
gospel huxters local and nearby with only one decent public radio
signal, 91.7 KOSU from almost 100 km away.

100.9 in Enid once had plans -- APP or even CP? for a genuine LP
community radio station backed by among others the emergency
management honcho, but it came to naught, and KGWA nabbed the
frequency for a tailwagger of its far-right extremist dog 960
talkshows.

Of course KUCO or KGOU can be heard streaming, and in fact I do so,
but I am unapologetically advocating for real local public radio
signals on our dials, in one of OK`s larger cities, while smaller ones
like Woodward are way ahead of us, two vs zero, both to boot bigger
than mere translators. Per 2020 census, Enid is ninth largest in OK,
but it would be fourth if several suburbs of OKC and Tulsa were merged
with their metros. Woodward is #38! (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SLOVENIA. 18118 USB, Jan 23 at 1515, CQ 17 from S57DX, quickly
working K4OOH and W3DLD. Nice to hear something beyond N America on
band. Previously logged Nov 16, 2020, on exactly same frequency, same
hour. More info in logs before that on Nov 1 and 2 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SPAIN [and non]. 11685, Jan 23 at 1608, REE still here toward
Africa, VP compared to ME 12030 which is also better than `our`
frequency, 9690. But there is also a JBA carrier on 11670, which may
be why REE went back to 11685. What could that be? CNR1 jamming and/or
VOA Tibetan via PHILIPPINES, but this hour only (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 198 MCW kHz, Jan 22 at 0813 UT, again tonight, DI_W, Dixon
NC beacon is miskeying with a space inserted. A reply to my first
report: ``Hi Glenn! DIW-198 has been reported miskeying for the past
couple of weeks on ndblist@groups.io. Unless there’s some indication
that a beacon’s miskeying will likely be a more or less permanent
issue, from a NOTAM or some sort of maintenance report, such miskeying
is not usually reported in the “notes” section of the RNA Signals
List. Steve Howe, Saint Albans, VT`` --- well, seems to me anything
amiss like that ought to be noted at least if it happen more than
once! Date correct, skipped last time. Not audible checked circa 0700
UT Jan 23 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 341 MCW kHz, Jan 23 at 0653 UT, for the record, EI Enid is
still off, so tuned to 341 USB, I do hear OIN, 25 watts from Oberlin
KS. Also mixing with JA, which is really on 344, 400 watts from
Jaxonvil FL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 3370.5 USB, UT Sun Jan 23 at 0255, MARS net encountered on a
downscan before I hit any 90mb broadcasters. NCS is 6TJ, in contact
with HW, something about USB only and ham gear won`t do DSB. Then
making a ``lightning round`` calling station after station from the
roster, all with prefices missing, and each replying ``fully
operational``: 63C?, 6JX, 6VG, 6BI, 6BD, 6OI, 6HW. Sez AFT6YD will be
NCS tomorrow morning, evidently for the first time. This net
designator is 6TX1, implying Texas? And are they all with AFT-
prefices? Closing net by 0301, almost in time for Bob & Ray on
`Weekend Radio` from WCLV. See my last report of this net, October 20,
2021 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2122 monitoring: confirmed UT
Sunday January 23 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, right after Bob Zanotti butts
in with his name only in an repetitive automation glitch; S9+10 into
Lubbock West Texas SDR, which at first was tuned to 326 Midland TX
beacon MA -- which I also heard again direct at 0655 Jan 23.

Also confirmed on NEXUS/IBA webcast from about 0033.8 UT Sunday
January 23 following `Feature Story News`; but the player stops
several times, including just before 0100 so I can`t tell if WOR
playback is still being chopped off unnecessarily.

Also confirmed UT Sunday January 23 from 0431 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO,
S9+11 into nearby SDR.

Zzz, could not check 1330 Sunday on WMRI Europe via Germany 9670; did
anyone hear it? Next:

2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 and/or 918-Italy & 207?
2330 UT Sunday WRMI 5950 to NNW
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7730 to WNW
0130 UT Monday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0400vUT Monday WBCQ 6160v Area 51 to WSW
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW

** U S A. 5850, UT Sun Jan 23 at 0100-0200, `Encore` classical music
on WRMI, VG into MO SDR. Since the repeat 26 hours later did not work
out last week, I`m prioritizing it now this week, despite timeclash
with `Theater Organ Under the Arch` on WTWW-2, which anyway had not
started by 0100 but underway at a quick check 0113. On $ tereo webcast
I do catch the last few minutes 0200 until finished at 0206, back to
gospel huxtering and rock (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, Jan 23 at 1601, S9/+10 of dead air from this WRMI;
then JBM presumably SMTV. Still very undermodulated at 1940. If not
boosted, this will be bad for `Memphis Weirdos` at 20-21, Prague at
21-22. Something`s odd at Okeechobee (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 830.12 approx., Jan 22 at 0816 UT, WCCO with JIMBO
playback has a low audible heterodyne. Checked 18 hours later, not
heard. What could it be, MWOffsets? Nothing further up than .0653 a
couple Brazilians (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15367.5 USB, approx., Jan 23 at 1603, 2-way in Spanish
INTRUDERS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 1948 UT January 23
