Glenn Hauser logs July 9-10-11, 2019 |
|
Friday, July 12 2019
** CUBA. 6100, July 10 at 0602, RHC English is S9+40 and splashing out to plus/minus 15 kHz. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 13740, July 11 at 0130, surprised that the BST-1 caradio memory stops here at RHC Spanish. I think this frequency has been off air evenings for a long time. It`s not in Aoki or EiBi, Aoki does not even show the morning broadcast at 11-14. RHC`s own website http://www.radiohc.cu/interesantes/frecuencias still shows the B-18 sked! When 13740 was for Buenos Aires at 22-05. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. 7365 & 7335, July 11 at 0548, wall of noise jamming and hardly a trace of Radios Martís; usually RM is way over jamming here, but auroral conditions must be taking out Grimesland NC way up north (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. 6100, July 11 at 0550, RHC English is S9+30 but undermodulated, and the carrier is cutting out rapidly and irregularly. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 6165 is S9 but JBM; 6000 is S9+10 and undermodulated; 5040 is S9+20/30, good modulation except for some hum, but cuts off early at 0553*. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. 15370.0, July 11 at 2222, RHC Spanish is S9 but JBM; at least it`s not off-frequency today! Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MALI. 13640, July 11 at 2224, undermodulated weak S8-S9 talk, presumably French as scheduled for sporadically active CRI Bamako relay, and off at 2227* (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENNG DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA. 1140, July 10 at 1255 UT, KRMP OKC with W&M talkshow, and as I bandscan down, hear the same conversation a few seconds later on 1050, presumably KGTO Tulsa. Then they split for some different PSAs and ads on 1050. Both are sloganned ``Heart & Soul`` apparently some syndicated service, and so is the other 1050, KXCA Lawton, weaker and further but which previously I have heard echoing against KGTO. By 1302 UT, 1140 & 1050 are // again but in music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1989 monitoring: missed confirming the Wed July 10 at 2100 on WRMI & WBCQ, busy and tuned in a few seconds too late at 2129! But at least on the portable PL-880, 9955 had a sufficient signal. Confirmed UT Thu July 11 at 0100, on WRMI 7780, VP in storm noise. WORLD OF RADIO 1990 contents: Australia [WTFK? 5055], Bougainville, China, Congo, Costa Rica, Cuba, Indonesia?, Korea South & North, Kuwait, Myanmar, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Turkey, UK, USA; publications; long and short-term propagation outlooks. WOR 1990 completed by 2340 UT July 11 ready for first airings Friday July 12. The shortwave broadcasts should be: 1000 UT Friday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW 2200 UT Friday WRMI 9955 0130 UT Saturday WRMI 7780 0629vUT Saturday HLR 6190-CUSB Germany 1000 UT Saturday Unique Radio 3210-USB NSW [July 20; alt. weeks] 1130 UT Saturday WRMI 9955 1430 UT Saturday HLR 9485-CUSB Germany 1930vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 2100 UT Saturday WRMI 9955 0130 UT Sunday WRMI 5850 0300vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315] 1030 UT Sunday HLR 7265-CUSB Germany 2130 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 0130 UT Monday WRMI 9395 7780-new 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 0300vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 0330 UT Monday WRMI 9955 0930 UT Monday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW 1816 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 0800 UT Tuesday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW [2 editions] 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 0930 UT Friday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW [it appears we will now be running on a Friday-to-Thursday cycle, so freshest new airings are on weekends] (mp3 stream) http://www.w4uvh.net/wor1990.m3u (mp3 download) http://www.w4uvh.net/wor1990.mp3 Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 9330.00, July 9 at 2220, WLC Radio via WBCQ-6 toward the end of its first UT day on air continues in Arabic, rather strange-sounding compared to what we hear from genuine Arabs – including mentions of Western names, and, Allah-forbid, never a bit of Qur`aning! Much weaker signal during Arabic eastward compared to English westward. Schedule we had from HFCC showed changing to English at 2300, but there is no transmission break before then and indeed after the ``IS``, looping slightly over one minute, heavy on the dramatic cellos (could someone identify where this music came from?), one more hour in Arabic after AW`s quick legal ID in English. By 2354 has built up to only S8-S9; off at 2355* for antenna rotation, back on at *2358:45 now S9+20 with IS; 0000 opening English, after YL apocalyptic intro as via ``Montichello``, the two British guys co-hosting with informal-sounding banter; one is Dave Wright, the other Miles something. They don`t sound like they are looney tunes. But starting with correct nomenclature advisory for deities, etc. At 0556 recheck, no signal at all, perhaps still on but not propagating. Super-power cannot overcome uncooperative MUFs! 9330, July 10 at 2353, good but not super signal, off-mike Arabic speech from echoey venue, distortion fades. 2356:25 change to IS and WBCQ ID once,, off at 2357*, 2358:30 attempts to cut back on but off again; finally back to stay at *2400:35, JIP bigsig English already in progress as UT July 11 starts. By 0553 recheck, down to a JBA carrier; 1326 rerecheck, no signal detectable vs noise level of only S2. Others have now reported that it went off just before 0800 when Arabic should have resumed, and further reports find it missing from 9330 all day July 11. I check UTwente SDR at 1818 and all I hear is OTH radar clicking(?). At 1820 on my own, still no signal. By 2303 has finally come on with Arabic, poor S9/S9+10. Finally at *2359:30 cuts on English bigsig again. Meanwhile, HFCC as of July 11 shows quite a different 500 kW schedule for WBCQ, still Arabic and English only, but times jumbled, and even some new frequencies as yet unconfirmed; it`s backdated as from 24 May, obviously imaginary: 15180 07-10 Arabic 75 degrees 11705 10-12 Arabic 75 degrees 9330 12-16 English 255 degrees 9330 16-18 English 300 degrees 9330 18-20 English 57 degrees 9330 20-07 Arabic 75 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1990, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Guess what: languages are 12 hours displaced from original schedule: bet someone mixedup am and pm! (gh) ** U S A. 5085, July 10 at 0603, WTWW-2 poor S8-S9 with flutter in music, so is the Pete Santilli far-right talk show gone again? Propagation is degraded: 5830 WTWW-1 and 5935 WWCR are JBA carriers at 0604 July 10, also displaying Doppler flutter. 4840 WWCR is slightly better, merely poor, also with Doppler; while 3215 WWCR remains OK, VG at S9+10. Lowest band holds up when highers do not. 24 hours later, July 11 at 0553, propagation is still disturbed: Now 5085 is a JBA carrier as well as 5830 and 5935; 4840 is S9+10/20 but not solid (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 12050, July 11 at 1330, WEWN carrier is cutting off the air quite accurately once per second. So we hear Spanish talk only in bits when it`s on, but JBA at S7. By 1402 has become OK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1990, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 1130, July 10 at 2258 UT, KLEY Wellington KS is still off the air as it has been since at least May 3; have checked it maybe once or twice a week since then. Its 250 watts daytime used to make it just fine to Enid, despite direxional-north pattern. Now there is no doubt whatsoever, since I am driving right by KLEY a few miles south of Wellington, circa 60th street SE, on the east side of US 81. Now all signage has been removed and no cars or indication of any habitation. There are still two towers of different heights for its ex-direxional day pattern; and about half a dozen big ugly dishes on the south side of the small whitewashed building. So I tune to 100.3 and there it is! With rock music and late 2302 UT ID as ``KLEY 1130-AM and K262CQ 100.3 FM, Wellington``; plenty of local ads, and 2304 UT, ``The Wave, 100.3 and 1130, from the Wheat Capital of the World``, and some music by Prince. But, but, how can a silent AM station have an FM translator??? Announcing 1130 does not make it so, duh. And I`ve already explained how Enid is the Wheat Capital, not little Wellington. Perhaps FCC has not been notified? There is nothing at AM Query about Facility 31895 being silent. At night it might as well be, with 0.001 kW power. Long live KWKH! (Glenn Hauser, KS, DX LISTENING DIGEST) UNIDENTIFIED. 9380+, July 11 at 1321, very poor RTTY; one peak seems about 9380.9; maybe the same OC mystery previously on minus side of 9380 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) This report dispatched at 0208 UT July 12

Glenn Hauser logs July 8-9, 2019 |
|
Tuesday, July 09 2019
** CUBA. 6100, July 9 at 0606, RHC English with VG modulation, and signal S9+20; while only // left, 6165, is incomparably worse, S8-S3 and undermodulated, unreadable. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** NIGERIA. 7254.9, July 9 at 0602, VON is back here and big S9+10/20 in Hausa. Wolfgang Bueschel says this rotatable antenna is stuck aimed toward North America, lucky us. 11769.9, July 9 at 2041, JBA carrier, signature off-frequency of VON, presumably running until about 2100 (Glenn Hauser, OK,, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA. RF 13-2, July 9 at 1616 UT, PBS World via KETA, during Christiane Amanpour & Co., blasting interruption for EAS test ``as required``, but before program audio resumes, we hear a minute of a horribly modulated commercial for Capital One! The system is relaying some station which is *not* doing the test, or maybe already finished it (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 9330.00, I have left a receiver on here most of the day July 8, the target date for World`s Last Chance to take over WBCQ-6, but nothing heard except occasional traces of Brother Scare on the old 9330.1v transmitter. Finally #6 cuts on abruptly at *2322 with AW`s quick canned ID, and into praise? music in Spanish; more music with ID at 2335. Is this WLC yet? Not quite. WLC just started at 0000 UT July 9, British accents, not Egyptian. It should not be necessary to cut the transmitter while the antenna is being rotated (unlike other antenna switching), but there was a break at 0355:20 to 0356:55 during their music span. It`s pretty clearly not multilingual changing every hour as originally planned and on the WLC website; yet, another group just posted that schedule as if it were correct. So far since 0000 it`s all been English, right? I did hear a minute or two of openings and wonder if they are playing the same English hour over and over? I have paid very little attention to their nonsense, but they want to be sure we are prepared, for ``the end is near``! They also make a big deal of the ``correct`` names for their god and offspring. Observer has this which must have been about WLC, but did anyone ever hear 9330 in Arabic any time in June? Maybe now we will find them going from English to Arabic at 0800 and all the way to 2300? This came out of HFCC. ``WBCQ-6 The Planet, Monticello, TEST in June 2019 0300-0700 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 280 deg to WNAm English 0700-0800 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 047 deg to WeEu English 0800-1500 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 060 deg to N/ME Arabic 1500-2300 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 090 deg to NoAf Arabic 2300-0300 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 255 deg to MEXI English`` Also, is 7490 now running 24 hours with BS at ``all unsold time`` as AW promised? I really meant ``all-night`` except for the WWCR hours. I would not expect any change there. Anyhow, 7490 WBCQ was not on late at night with BS or anything, as of 0600, nor during the daytime when it`s JBA if at all. Assuming now 9330.00 be always 500 kW as WLC requires, signal weakens greatly --- super-power cannot overcome propagation! By 0600 July 9, I can tell it`s still 9300.00 but JBA! At 0625 up a little at S1-S5 to tell it`s WLC English. Probably did switch to Arabic at 0800; my next check at 1232 finds it now in Arabic, S8-S3, nowhere near the signal we used to get during tests aimed thisaway, so the rotating direxional antenna must be very effective, i.e. not wasting signal off the back. After 1440 and various daytime chex, it remains VP here in Arabic; at 2034, rating only S3-S5, while nearest neighbor SW station 9265 WINB is slightly better S4-S6, and no comparison to WWCR blasting on 9350 and 9980. Maybe WBCQ-6 will blast again itself changing back to English thisaway at 2300? Meanwhile, Kai Ludwig in the WOR iog has found more interesting background about World`s Last Chance and its founder: ``It appears that Galal Doss remained in Egypt not so completely unnoticed as elsewhere: http://www.orthodox-christian-comment.co.uk/curiosities-seventhdayadventist&egyptchrstians.htm https://atoday.org/is-the-new-president-of-egypt-an-adventist/ And he not just calls the pope an antichrist, in 2005 he made a really cute prophecy: http://www.remnantofgod.org/GalalDoss-FalseProphet.htm Someone with a bit more time to spend could also check if a first impression is correct: That Doss could be a bad Antisemite. By the way, it seems that Doss is a mere three years younger than Stair. Kai Ludwig`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 7570, July 9 at 2043, JBA carrier vs S9 local line noise level, and no signals on 7730 or 7780. Must be WRMI: yes, websked revised to show it with APS Radio, 14-23 UT Tuesday and Thursday only! How odd. Aimed right at us 315 degrees, but useless in summer daytime. Maybe makes it to Mississippi? 9455 is also on with VP signal and that too is sked as APS, in this case M-F 2000-2200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 5830 & 5935, July 9 at 0608, both Nashvillians WTWW and WWCR are inaudible, so both off the air? How about lower? 4840 WWCR is still S9+20/30 with BS and so is // 3215. Maybe a very sharp MUF cutoff around 5 MHz? (Glenn Hauser, OK, D LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A [and non]. 9470, July 9 at 1355, WEWN into ``Salve Regina`` with heavy CCI in Chinese, soon uncovered completely as WEWN is finished with English until the afternoon. CNR1 jamming/RTI (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 1210, July 9 at 0559 UT, tune in just in time to hear ToH break, from ``Reality Radio`` to multi-AM/FM station ID including WJNL and mention of Mackinaw City, as the 50 kW daytimer in Kingsley MI continues its all-night cheating since first heard here June 24. At first dominant, must have been during a KGYN fade which soon comes back up during sportstalk (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) UNIDENTIFIED. 9379.577, July 9 at 1235, open carrier fading S4-S2, so not a local device. Probably the same one Rick Barton, AZ reported as 9380, July 1 at 0815-0915 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) This report dispatched at 2212 UT July 9

Glenn Hauser logs July 7-8, 2019 |
|
Monday, July 08 2019
** BRAZIL. 9630.4, July 8 at 0132 and 0537, JBA carriers no doubt R. Aparecida, active now (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 6000, UT Mon July 8 at 0122, RHC mailbag show in English, suptorted which is getting to be the norm on this frequency; better on // 6165. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. 5040, July 8 at 0531, RHC in Spanish instead of this hour scheduled English; something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** ECUADOR. 6050, UT Mon July 8 at 0124, S5-S7 talk in unknown language, presumed HCJB rather than Tibet in Mandarin; but per EiBi this segment is supposed to be in Spanish Sun-Thu, Quechua/Kichwa Fri/Sat. Could it be those are local days rather than UT days? Better signal than usual, anyway (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** INDIA. 7380, July 8 at 0117, ME music, poor, ACI from 7375 Romania but 7385 WHRI is not on. HFCC shows it has to be AIR Bengaluru in Sindhi service 0045-0200, 400 [sic] kW at 300 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK,, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** KOREA SOUTH [and non]. 15575, July 8 at 1319, KBS World Radio, so-called North American service in English, JBA carrier even worse with Doppler flutter. This is the date they were going to boost power from 100 to 250 kW, but propagation is subnormal. 11710, July 8 at 1345, their friends in the North are doing much better understanding Propagation 101: choral music at S7-S9, and much better than // 9435; but VOK has their own drawbax, self-jamming noise more audible during following English announcement on 11710 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA. July 8 morning bandscan for signs of tropo DTV DX finds a few Bad signals on `open` VHF/UHF channels, but one station is in solid: RF 21, KUOT-CD, OKC, at 1359+UT, PSIP only KUOT on all five: 21-1, Cornerstone, 40th anniversary slide 21-2, IBN bug UR 21-3, 3ABN bug LR; blurry but legible photo: http://www.w4uvh.net/KUOT-CD3.jpg 21-4, AFTV bug LR 21-5, Hope Channel bug UR This lineup matches rabbitears.info which also shows an unused -6. KUOT transmits from the SE side of OKC, just beyond Valley Brook (a suburb one never hears of), near SE 97 street and Bryant, 591 feet AGL, ERP 15 kW and slightly direxional to NW across the bulk of OKC, not for us. Distance about 117 km = 73 statute miles. Holds up for several more minutes; Hepburn tropo map predicted only marginal level-1 enhancement between there and here (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** TURKEY. 7260, July 8 at 0119, ME music, S9+25, i.e. VOT Spanish hour also on 9870. What in the world are they doing broadcasting to our Hemisphere amid the exclusive ham band? Correxion: this is NOT IRAN as in my last report; I must have mixed up the lines as VIRI is OK on 7260 until 0020 in French to W Africa (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 7206-LSB, July 8 at 0151, KC4AA working simplex pileups, S5, occasionally heard when they pause. Maybe they think he is on Navassa or Antarctica? But QRZ.com lookup shows this exotic call now belongs merely to: KC4AA USA flag USA WILLIAM G MILLS 188 ELLIS MILL RD NE MILLEDGEVILLE, GA 31061-9020 USA His contacts include FL, GA, as if here were away from there. His QRZ info does not say he is anywhere else now, but all the excitement makes me suspect he be DX. In 1991-1994 he was HZ1AB in Sa`udi Arabia. I have a QSL from ``Hot Ziggity, One American Boy`` but I think it was long before that, probably a different op, club station? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 7268-LSB, July 8 at 0154, K2A, ``13 Colonies, representing New York``, special event station. Not so piled up here as on 7206. QRZ.com shows: K2A USA flag USA Kenneth Goetz-K2A & K2Z QSL Manager 74 Jerome Ave. Cairo, NY 12413 USA And here is the current QSL: https://s3.amazonaws.com/files.qrz.com/a/k2a/K2Acard1.jpg Presumably same call will be applied to other Events subsequently. While tuned here, I hear an RF blast from my nearest streetlight igniting at 0155 UT, only 3 minutes after our latest LSS of the year, but western sky is cloudy (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1989 monitoring: confirmed Sunday July 7 at 2130 on WRMI 7780, very poor [but we hope better in NE America, Europe?]. Also confirmed UT Monday July 8 at 0130 following extraneous ``Sun-Power 5850, 7455, 9395`` ID, on 9395 WRMI, good and much stronger than now // 7780 almost synchronized having just joined together. Also confirmed UT Monday July 8 at 0230 on WRMI 7780 again, poor-fair in noise level. Also confirmed UT Monday July 8 at 0300 sharp on Area 51 webcast, but WBCQ 5130.36 not checked until 0327 when it`s dead air! Earlier around 0230 it was S9 to S9+10 with music. Still dead past 0330. Also confirmed UT Monday July 8 at 0330 on WRMI 9955, S8-S9 vs noise after operatic music fill. Next: 1816 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania, ND 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE 0800 UT Tuesday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW [2 editions], ND 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 to SSE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE 0930 UT Friday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW, ND Also check 9330 WBCQ for unscheduled airings during testing phase. [it appears we will now be running on a Friday-to-Thursday cycle, so freshest new airings are on weekends] Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 9330.00, July 7-UT July 8, WBCQ-6 remains off the air like it was last Sunday night, and still off at 1711 check July 8, the target date for World`s Last Chance at flat-earthiness to take over. At 0115 check, Brother Scare could be heard on old transmitter circa 9330.2, and again at 1706. I`m leaving a receiver on 9330 today as much as possible: I cannot hardly wait (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENNG DIGEST) ** U S A. 17775, July 8 at 1348, KVOH already on early again with praise music, S7-S8 and the SSOB far beyond traces of Saudi on 17705, 17615+ but not 17895. Program sked still claims not until *1400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) This report dispatched at 1713 UT July 8
