Glenn Hauser logs February 15, 2022  View Printable Version
Wednesday, February 16 2022

Logs
** EGYPT. 9899.60, Feb 15 at 2121 check, R. Cairo is 100% improved: NO
signal into UTwente! However, at 2204 UT, Andy Reid, Ontario tells the
WOR iog: ``With varying degrees of audio quality, I don’t believe it
is the transmitters. They are on now in English 9900 with some audio
squeaking though. I did hear the word “president“!`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960+, Feb 15 at 2333, VOT direct is S9/S6 but just barely
modulated. Checking UTwente at 2348 it`s +016 Hz high, undermodulated
but sufficient if you turn up the volumes on strong S9+27 signal;
compared to e.g. much louder 6015 station, Kazakh from East Turkistan,
standard denunciation. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. 2353
unusual s/off by heavily accented YL as if this were the 1330
broadcast, IS until 2356* uncovering another Urumqi in Chinese, its
CCCCCCI having been audible before TRT quit. Now at least until the
0000 timesignal, another carrier is making a rumbling SAH, unaccounted
for in listings, so I guess it may be the Emirler exciter before
turned off completely (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 305 MCW kHz, Feb 15 at 0711 UT, OI, 25-watt ND beacon at
sIOux City / Tommi, Iowa. What means Tommi? Top search hits lead to a
Finnish masculine name; a girl`s name and a VR game. Adding Sioux City
leads to S.C. people named that; and OI axually located across the
border in South Sioux City, Nebraska!
https://opengovny.com/place/ChIJwxQS3cQGjocRz90zVBZkN3M
Also leads to a street view of the transmitter box and antenna. Still
lacking is any explanation of why this and so many other NDBs are at
such weirdly nicknamed airports. Auroral conditions, hardly any
Canadians or other USonians making it now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2125 monitoring: confirmed new UT
Tuesday February 15 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, VG into Minneapolis SDR;
preceded by music fill,``My Sweet Love`` at 0128 tune-in.

Also confirmed Tue Feb 15 at new 2330 on WRMI 9955, S9+10/20 direct
including considerable pulse jamming by the incompetent Cubans. Next:

1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary
support. Thanks this week to James Ferry, Thornville, OH 43076, for a
contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com not necessarily US$

One may also contribute by MO or check in US$ on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, USA (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9455, Feb 15 at 1612, NO signal from WRMI-5 which is
supposedly 24/7 including TOMBS cult all day, according to skedgrid
now labeled as ``WRMI B21 Broadcast Schedule as of January 20, 2023``
[sic!]; but other WRMIs, 9395 & 9955 are on and well audible. 9455
azimuth is 285 degrees, close to thisaway, same as 7730 which when on
has a better signal here.

On 9455, no sign either of CNR1 jammer or RFA Chinese via Saipan as
scheduled this hour, but M/W/F only and this is Tuesday, instead:

9720, Feb 15 at 1613, music with fast SAH, repeating melody like an
unknown interval signal, 1614 other music, S6-S8. This is the Tue &
Thu RFA Chinese via SAIPAN frequency and CNR1 jammer, instead of 9455
M/W/F. So what about 16-17 UT Sat & Sun? 9900 shown by WRTH 2022. This
jumparound obviously does not escape ChiCom jamming, so why bother?
Must confuse casual non-DXer listeners.

9455 is back on with SMTV cult at next check 0118 UT Feb 16; as WRMI
skedgriddled at 01-07 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs February 13-14-15, 2022  View Printable Version
Tuesday, February 15 2022

Logs
** CUBA. 9700, Feb 14 at 0712, S9/+10 of dead air, trace? of
modulation, the only RHC frequency still emanating. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Feb 14 at 2228, RHC still on here, S9+5 in Spanish,
instead of scheduled 2130* after French // much weaker 15370. Checking
all bands next few minutes, no other RHC frequencies active on 15, 13,
11, 9, 7, 6 MHz; except 11880 English, S8-S4 and suptorted. At 2240 a
Cuban seeks pen-pals, with his postal address, then ``amigos de la
onda corta, Nuestra América, revista informativa``. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT [and non]. 9899.60, Feb 14 at 2218 direct, R. Cairo S9/S7 but
JBM and suptorted in music. Continues as total failure. At 2237 there
is a weak het from something on 9900.0, i.e. the TAIWAN/CHINA radio
war from 2230 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUAM. 15215, Feb 14 at 2226, vocal SE Asian music, S5/S2, best if
not only signal from west on mostly vacant band; it`s KSDA amid
Vietnamese hour, beamed even further west from Agat. One can only
wonder how 7DA meshes or conflicts with Vietnamese culture, as well as
its countless other targets (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** LUXEMBOURG. 234 kHz, Feb 13 at 2326, RTL VG into UTwente, during
special about history of pirate radio. At tune-in a put-off, English
and French narration mixing at same level! One must be voice-over of
the other, which should be avoided except possibly when there be
stereo separation. About R. Caroline, clip of ``199`` ID = metres;
2329 French only, about R. Atlanta. Too much else going on at this
hour to keep listening, e.g. UBMP, not to mention WOR. BTW, in my LW
bandscans for beacons I never hear a trace of this 375/750 kW signal
nor any other European LWBC.

Richard Langley, NB, tells the WOR iog: ``Interesting show. Although
the commentary is in French, there was lots of English in the sound
clips and jingles from the different English stations. And the pop
songs of course. And those with a smattering of French can follow the
drift. I recorded the show using the U. Twente SDR receiver with good
quality. But the podcast is even better:
https://www.rtl.fr/programmes/les-nocturnes/7900124623-saga-des-radios-pirates-world-radio-day-dimanche-13-fevrier-2022
Worth a listen. -- Richard Langley`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6930-USB, Feb 13 at 2308, novelty song about bride
of Frankenstein, I guess for Valentines Day, S9+15; 2310 another song;
2312 segué to Mideast tune but English lyrix about rock `n` roll;
2315.5 Outhouse Radio ID, SSTV. Many more logs here with lots of noisy
fuzzy SSTV images:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,93012.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SUDAN SOUTH [non]. 11650+, Feb 14 at 0334, S7-S9 of
Hornish-of-Africish music, 0335 announcement, more music, mostly talk
past 0348. Outstanding signal at first seems the OSOB = only signal on
band, until I find also a JBA carrier on 11875, so instead it`s the
SSOB = strongest signal on band. At 0352 I switch to Knoxville SDR
which is getting 11650 better, S7-S9 reading also, during dialog talk
and carrier offset displayed as +53.6 Hz, varying to +52.3 Hz. It`s
Radio Tamazuj, via MADAGASCAR, which also accounts for
offfrequenciness. MUF barely to 12 MHz is funxional for this
trans-equatorial signal; but the 11875 must be VOA Somali via UAE,
close to trans-polar (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690 reactivated after AWOL Friday, Monday Feb 14 at 2300,
token REE English, VG via Maryland SDR; after news mainly interview
about a Greek film; but at 2325 acknowledging World Radio Day
yesterday with UNESCO statement about it, and last minute at 2329 a
bit of a Spanish version of Elvis Costello`s ``Radio, Radio`` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. 5960, Feb 14 at 2259, BBC closes but nothing from VOT
English to us during the entire hour as monitored via UTwente. Instead
a weak carrier which bumps up to S9 at 2309, JIP PBS Xinjiang,
Mandarin in progress from Urumqi, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide
against Uighurs and other Moslems. Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler; so no contest whether to listen to this or SPAIN, q.v. (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K. Feb 14 tune in Emma Toc webcast at 1843 when live again,
https://www.mixcloud.com/live/RadioEmmaToc/
Jim Salmon preparing to drink worldwide toasts to 2MT at 1900 ---
axually three toasts: to 2MT; radio hams who promoted; and to first
DJ, Peter Pendleton Echersley(sp?) with a clip of him CQing --- during
which the stream to me stalls. Apparently a re-creation some ten years
later. Chat keeps going including overhearing 2m? ham contacts past
1930. We continue to wonder and marvel how Emma and Toc ever emerged
as fonetix for MT (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [non]. 5945.095, Feb 14 at 0316, JBA S6/S8 carrier
off-frequency in 5950 WRMI splash. Aoki shows this hour only it`s BBC
Arabic via UAE site, another one which accomplishes inaccurate
frequencies. See also SUDAN SOUTH [non] (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2125 monitoring: Also confirmed Sun
Feb 13 at 2100.8 on AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9+8/12 via nearby Noale SDR;
preceded by someshow about Montenegro`s entry into the Eurovision Song
Contest, 2100 IRRS SW ID. Initially lots of noise
but cleared up by WOR time; power output surges at station? Also
checked at UTwente tuning MW rather than SW: at 2120, 1323 kHz is good
and clear into other side of Europe, S6-S7 over slight CCI.

Also confirmed Sun Feb 13 at 2341 the 2330 on WRMI 5950, S9+35/20 into
Knoxville SDR.

Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 14 at 0030 on WRMI 0030, S9+10/20 into
Knoxville SDR, also VG direct.

Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 14 from 0402.7 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160
minus 29 Hz = 6159.971, S9 into Knoxville SDR; running a bit late: at
0356, multiple repeat IDs of ``WDCD Radio``, and ``Wanton Display of
Control and Disruption`` -- now we know. It so happens that FCC
Queries find no such legal call on AM, FM or TV, way to go! That`s the
same one previous weeks closing with a coughing fit. Next:

0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW [NEW]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

via WRMI:
https://www.w4uvh.net/TRSW_DrTimTribute_eQSL_WRMI_Hauser.pdf
or #132 via http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5850, Feb 13 at 2314, this WRMI-12 is back on after AWOL
last two nights (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5010, Feb 14 at 0302-0310+, S9/+10 of dead air. Must be
WRMI-14, supposed to close at 0300. MADAGASCAR used to appear
off-frequency near 5010, possibly hetting RMI, but not lately; when
on, scheduled from 0300 per WRTH tho I recall is was on an hour
earlier, as indeed listed from 0200 by Aoki; never mind the imaginary
Honduran (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (7490v), Sun Feb 13 at 2330, WBCQ webcast with `Uncle Bill`s
Melting Pot`, music from Botswana at midpoint. DXing otherstuff until
2330, I will try to catch the first half on secret repeat, UT Tuesday
0000 --- later: yes, I`m doing exactly that Feb 15 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 5085 & 5830, UT Mon Feb 14 at 0311, surprisingly no signals
from WTWWs, nor on 9475, 9930 or 9940 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
