Glenn Hauser logs October 8-9, 2021  View Printable Version
Saturday, October 09 2021

Logs
** CUBA. 6000, Oct 8 at 0233, RHC English S9+20 but suptorted: wiggle
that patchcord! Alleged Cuban scientist denies there is any evidence
for ``Havana Syndrome`` sonic attacks there or elsewhere. // 6165 is
VG but somewhat overmodulated/distorted. Now if only they could
balance them out. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** EUROPE. 6330-CW, Oct 8 at 2013, CW beacon from R. Piraña
Internacional; repeating message starts with RFI but I don`t copy the
rest. I wonder if he spells out Piraña with the special character
--.-- for ñ? Well audible via UTwente with some deep fading. Jorge R.
García tells the WOR iog that it`s 8 watts from northern Europe,
active today 1900-0700 UT and also same hours this Saturday into UT
Sunday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925-USB, Oct 8 at 2259, scales up and down at first
on keyboard, jazzed-up classical tunes, 2302 another, direct. Next
check at 2327 via remote in MO, no signal, but Maryland has some
non-classical music, poor signal. Another report at first as unID:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,87438.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6931-USB, Oct 8 at 2329, S7-S9 pirate music, into
Maryland SDR; 2338 brief ID? missed and ballad. Several logs here say
it`s Tall Radio Jethro (Tull):
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,87441.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 11670, Fri Oct 8 at 2229, REE wrapping up token English with
Justin Coe voice recognizable but VP unreadable --- and this is the
best, being lowest, as the MUF to deep N America has plunged, despite
being on the worst azimuth south toward Africa; while 11940, 15520 and
supposedly for us 17855 are even worse, JBA to JBA carriers. We
anticipate a B-21 switch to much more propagable 9690 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2107 monitoring: confirmed first
airings UT Friday October 8 at 0130 on WRMIs: 5850 VG, 7780 fair.

Also confirmed Fri Oct 8 at 0330 on WRMI 5985, S7/9+10 into Bonaire.

Also confirmed Fri Oct 8 at 1815 on IRRS via AM Italia, Villa Estense,
918 kHz, S9, as always interrupting some talk show, about NZ? Pause.
Quick IRRS ID, long pause and WOR starts and plays to 1844. As
monitored via Noale SDR

Also confirmed Fri Oct 8 at 1816 on IRRS 7290 via Bulgaria. As usual,
S9+5/10 open carrier runs past 1815, modulation does not cut on WOR
until opening is almost over. Is no one paying attention? Also to
1844. Via UTwente it`s about 3 seconds apart from 918.

Also confirmed Fri Oct 8 at 2030 on 918 after music and extended IRRS
ID, S9, as above.

Also confirmed Fri Oct 8 at 2230 on new WRMI 5950 airing, S8-S9
directly after world music, no ID break. Next:

0130 UT Saturday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1930vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM
2330 UT Saturday WRMI 5950 to NNW [new]
0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7730 to WNW
0300vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0430]
1230 UT Sunday WMRI Europe via Ch 292 Germany 9670 [new]
2000 UT Sunday IRRS 918-Italy
2230 UT Sunday WRMI 5950 to NNW
2230 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE

a.k.a.. Rabishu, he says, ``Thanks Glenn for all the many many years
of WOR. I have been hearing you for decades. You're a shortwave
inspiration and I will always remain inspired by you.``

One may also contribute by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to
Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5850, Fri Oct 8 at 1045 I happen to awaken so confirm that
WRMI is on this air, `Frecuencia al Día` segment in strangely-accented
Spanish. So maybe WOR will be back on Wednesday at this hour (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 9975, Oct 8 at 0226, JBA carrier from presumed
KVOH which normally blasts into here. Then I check other 31m band
signals and find other USAs are also VP; or JBACs even from WRMI 9955,
9455, 9395; maybe 9330 WBCQ.

But Eurosigs much further away are VG: 9420 Greece S9/+10; 9490
República/France S9/+10 and no jamming audible. Close-in MUF must be
sharp between 8 and 9 MHz; because N Americans below 8 remain VG: 7850
CHU; WRMIs 7780 S9+20; 7730 & 7570 S9+30/40 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (7489.9v), UT Sat Oct 9 at 0000, WBCQ webcast with `AAAWWW`,
again very overmodulated/distorted. ``Hide the silverware``, hmmm, is
this a rerun? A & A are yelling over each other with usual
anti-American rants. I switch the Maryland SDR to this from the real
pirate band, where sound is a bit less distorted but also with
RHC-like humbuzz. They start talking about spotted dicks, drinking
teguila, on 7490, 6160 and 4790 preferably in meaningless
``kilocycles`` instead of kHz; what`s wrong with Canada? I can`t take
another hour of this broadcasting, distorted in more ways than one. So
here`s John Carver`s version:

``Tonight's show started on time on 4790, 6160 and 7490. Allan half
undressed in a hot studio in a warm Fla. Allan and Angela bantering
back and forth about several subjects which sort of morphed into some
blather about "community" and how the definition has changed over the
years and how Covid accelerated the change. A mention of the stolen
election by Angela. Even some talk of worldwide shortages of things
and some China bashing.

Allan announced that the superstation was up and running well but
before he could finish that there was a phone call at 0031 from Mr.
Mike to talk about the upcoming Nearfest next weekend. Allan then
reads an article from Radio World about shortwave tech that I think
he's read before.

Reading of emails at 0055. Closing prayer at 0058. It was mentioned
that they'd had many small problems with the new transmitter since
replacing the big tube and was implied that one of the repairmen was
still at the station tinkering with things. Off the air at 0100. John,
Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic, JBA MW carrier search, Oct 8 at
0606-0612 UT: First noticed het on KMBZ 980: 558, 612, 621, 684, *693,

** U S A. Stephen Luce, Houston TX, replies to my 1310 KZIP log:

``Glenn, about KZIP: Yes the transmitter tower is right next to I-40
just east of Hope Road, and easy to see when driving by. Built in
1978, the tower is also used by what is now KPRF 98.7 which originally
signed on that year. Both the AM and FM were co-owned in the late 70's
when 1310 was a Country Music station, and 98.7 was Album Rock KYTX (I
lived in Amarillo at the time and recall hearing the original
transmitter tests for 98.7 during the early morning hours while
driving to work.) KZIP was sold around 1981 flipping to a Spanish
language format, while 98.7 has had several owners, call signs, and
formats over the years.

Only things even vaguely resembling a valley in the Amarillo area
would be either Palo Duro Canyon or Lake Meredith, unlikely origins of
the ownership name. The Texas Panhandle is not completely flat, if you
take the time to explore it. Stephen Luce, Houston, Texas`` Yes, Palo
Duro is quite scenic, a minature Grand (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
