Glenn Hauser logs November 4-5, 2021  View Printable Version
Friday, November 05 2021

Logs
** CANADA. 248-MCW kHz, Nov 5 at 0611, ND beacon dash and WG, 1000
watts from Winnipeg MB. In much degraded auroral propagation from the
north I was wondering if any Canadian would arrive, and only this one
does (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 18, KOPX-TV OKC, Nov 5 at 1520 UT, checking out the
other 6 subchannels besides recently discovered Newsy on 62-7:
62-1, ION
62-2, Bounce
62-3, CourtTV
62-4, Grit
62-5, Defy TV
62-6, TruReal

Defy TV? Yet another new ``network`` never heard of before. Per
website its flagship shows are ilk of American Pickers, Duck Dynasty,
Pawn Stars. Pass!

True Real? Ditto: Married at First Sight, Wahlburgers, Escaping
Polygamy, Hoarders. Pass2! Is there really a market for all these
lobrow reruns on obscure subchannels? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** THAILAND. 11660, Nov 5 at 1457, music marred by heavy Doppler
flutter, beyond Cuba and non, strongest signal on band, off by 1500
recheck. VOA Chinese via Udorn scheduled, so could be jammer instead,
but only one signal heard. After severe geomag storm, many other JBA
signals also have Doppler flutter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 257-MCW kHz, Nov 5 at 0609 UT, ND beacon JYR, which is 25
watts from York, Nebraska.

293-MCW kHz, Nov 5 at 0610 UT, ND beacon FBY, 25 watts from Fairbury
NE. So common I don`t always log it. Not many are making it now in
geomag storm, and only one from CANADA, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 10000, Nov 5 at 1504, WWV in a special announcement during
the minute reserved for such, about something at :48, refers to
www.hamsci.org/wwv

Before 1700 I`m trying for a good WWV signal via Maryland remote;
altho 10000 is S9 with tix clearly audible, the voice announcements
come thru JBA, very strange. Before 1704 I switch to direct reception
on 10000, and partially copy the announcement by roboyl: Starting Nov
15 there will be tests on WWV on the hour [?? not clear the time!] and
WWVH at :48 for HamSci and NIST, consisting of tones, chirps, noise
bursts, for several weeks; see website [as above] where we find this:

``WWV/H Scientific Modulation --- Welcome to the WWV/H Scientific
Modulation Working Group page! For more information about scientific
modulation on WWV, email hamsci@case.edu

HamSCI's WWV/H Scientific Modulation Working Group is exploring
possibilities for additions to WWV and WWVH's modulation that can be
used for science purposes. Current status: a characterization signal
has been designed for test broadcasts on WWV and WWVH. View it here:
DOI

TAPR DCC Presentation, 18 September 2021: WW0WWV has written an
excellent report on the TAPR presentation, which you can read here:
WWV/WWVH Scientific Modulation Working Group | WWVARC`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2110 monitoring: confirmed UT Thu
Nov 4 at 0030 on WRMIs: 9395 S9+10 and 9455 S9 but 9395 is much
louder.

Also confirmed final repeat UT Thu Nov 4 at 0140 the 0130 on WRMI
5010, S9/+10 but noisy.

From next week all three should be at 0130. BTW, no more logs made UT
Nov 4 during severe geomag storming, K-index hitting 8 as Rodney
Johnson points out, and Spaceweather says auroras were visible into NM
which means also to northern OK.

WORLD OF RADIO 2111 contents: Belarus` and non, Brasil, China,
*Cuba, Eritrea/Ethiopia and non, Europe, Finland, France, Galápagos,
(Germany), India, International Vacuum, Japan/Korea North and South,
*Kurdistan non, Kuwait, Myanmar non, Norfolk Island, Oklahoma,
Romania, Russia, Sudan, (Taiwan), *Thailand, (Turkey), Ukraine, *USA,
*Vatican; unID 3360; Beverage antennas; propagation outlook
() country mentioned but not in that order; *includes new B-21

WOR 2111 confirmed first broadcasts, UT Friday November 5 at 0130 on
WRMIs: 7780, S7-S9 into UTwente but at 0144 S9-S5 direct; 5850 VG
direct, at 0144 S9+10/20.

Also confirmed UT Fri Nov 5 at 0330 on WRMI 5985, but JBA at North and
Latin American remotes during degraded propagation (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 9330, Nov 5 at 1502 and 1505, no signal from WLCR on WBCQ;
another breakdown? Surely would be detectable despite storm; WRMIs
with southern advantage are VG. 1648 recheck, now it`s on with a
continuous tone test, S9+10 into Maryland SDR; carrier offset only 0.3
to 0.5 Hz. By 1719 resumed abnormal programming about the Earth being
covered by a dome, which is in scripture, they say (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 680, Nov 5 at 0613 UT, talk show with echo from two
different stations; closest normally is KFEQ St Joseph MO; must be
`Red Eye Radio` as also // but not synch on 700, 760, 820, 890. Per
NRC AM Log, the only other RER on 680 is 50 kW WPTF Raleigh NC, major
night lobe to the south, nullish thisaway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 830, Nov 5 at 0615 UT, WCCO now with `Jim Bohannon` show
about 2 seconds ahead of // 720 WGN; after 0500 of course it`s a
replay but he keeps uttering phone-in numbers. In Standard Time, live
runs will be 0307-0559 UT Tue-Sat (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Oceanic JBA MW carrier search, Nov 5 at 0601 UT:
at this hour, I usually start with 846, presumed Kiritimati, and it is
there now, but the only other 9-kHz are 621 and 711, surely Canary
Islands and Morocco, all lower-latitude paths as higher signals from
Europe are blocked by severe geomag storm (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1370.47V approx., Nov 5 at 0621 UT, wavering het to
1370.00 pileup. Nothing listed anywhere so far off at mwoffsets (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 1725 UT November 5
