Glenn Hauser logs March 6-7, 2022  View Printable Version
Monday, March 07 2022

Logs
** CUBA. Not to be outdone by dead air from only one WTWW, four of The
Cuban Five are deadairing, March 7 at 0704-0706 chex: 5040, S9+30/40;
6060, S9+10/20 with big hum; 6100, S9+20/30 with less hum; 9700, S9+30
of lower hum. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9490, March 7 at 0711, pulse jamming vs nothing, long after
Radio República via RMI via France is finished, from the incompetent
DentroCuban Jamming Command (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** INTERNATIONAL VACUUM. CNN on unknown satellite frequency, into DTV
cable channel 50 of Suddenlink, Enid, March 6 at 2050-2100 UT is not
breaking up like it was 24 hours ago, when suspected due to solar
transit outage (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRAN [non]. 9895, March 7 at 0708, ME music at S9/S7, soon ID as
Radio Farda and then English song, ``Have I Told You Lately That I
Love You?`` --- that should win us friends over there. Something new?
Had not noticed before but scheduled all B-21 at 0430-0730, 100 kW at
85 degrees from Biblis, GERMANY (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11540, March 7 at 1536, about equal collision
between Turkish jammer and Dengê Welat teaming up on same frequency
except for a fast SAH, and nothing on 11530 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K. 9770, March 7, 1758-1830, one more check for the newly
HFCC-registered revived Russian language on BBCWS via Woofferton
effective March 3: still NO show, listening via UTwente and to
9771-LSB via Nizhny Novgorod KiwiSDR, to be alarmed should a carrier
come on, but never. At least this SDR is not blocked with plenty other
signals on the H2Ofall. Recheking HFCC as of March 7:
http://hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=B21&broadc=BBC
that imaginary broadcast has been *removed* with nothing else in
Russian to replace it. So, never mind hearing BBC in Russian when
necessary on SW; let alone Ukrainian! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2128 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
March 6 at 2100.7 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, Villa Estense, VG
without QRM into nearby Noale KiwiSDR.

Also confirmed Sunday March 6 at 2330 on WRMI 5950, S9+15/25 into
Missouri SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 7 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, S9+20 into
Missouri SDR with nearby storm crashes.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 7 starting late at 0405 on Area 51
webcast and presumably WBCQ 6160-, after JL runs over. Oops, it`s last
week`s 2127. I email Larry immediately that it should be 2128. Not
monitoring further but catch closing at 0434 by when it is # 2128.
Later Larry tells me that only about one minute of 2127 aired before
he noticed and corrected it. Next:

0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

** U S A. 4790, UT Monday March 7 at 0300 initial show of WBCQ Concert
Hall on Radio Angela, Uncle Bill introducing, says may have guest
hosts later as show evolves; tonight: Act I of Rossini`s Barber of
Seville. Bill refers us to web for synopsis. I`m listening first via
Maryland remote but there is that pulsing whine and occasional
uteblaaps. To Missouri SDR it`s S8/+10, no whine but nearby storm
crashes. Hunting around for best remote, my comments to WOR iog:

Not so good - Traverse City MI gets storm crashes now at 0315 as would
any in a wide area within hundreds of miles of the storm front from TX
to IN centered over MO. CODAR also audible. I haven`t found a better
one tonight. Wash DC area with less storm noise, no CODAR, but some
other continuous whinepulsing. Brunt of signal is heading right into
the storm area. Not making it at all to UTwente. Chris Smolinski
provides seven Kiwis at Westminster MD. I`m trying 8074 which is
pretty good but still with the DC-area whinepulse in the background.
What is causing that??

It`s tempting to listen to `Encore` classical music on 5950 WRMI,
stronger signal and higher frequency amounting to less storm noise,
S9+10/35 into Missouri, starting with Poulenc, Les Biches. Back on
4790, Act I of BOS is over about 0435 and UB says Act II plays next
week. To fill out the bihour tonight, some PDQ Bach starting with the
1712 Overture. But competition now from another BCQ, 6160, q.v. (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (6160-), UT Mon March 7 at 0434, Area 51 webcast via WBCQ,
as soon as late-starting WOR 2127/2128 finishes, not HRI but Voice
Pancho Villa, studio recording of a multi-ennial tradition, this
year`s SWL Fest broadcast, which had been reported axually on air
unlike rest of virtual-only proceedings, on 6955 March 6 at 2100-2115
including a full recording:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,94000.0.html
Pretty raunchy, including having Google speak translations into
Russian of various insults against Putin. About 0449 filled with Jean
Shepherd (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955, March 7 at 1540, clips of R. Ukraine International,
about culture, music, said by Jeff to be from their final English
webcast before suspension, then about famous Ukrainians. 1543 about
Russian service of RUI, i.e. AWR Wavescan; and on to item about the
finale of Brazuguese DX program Encontro DX, canceled on Rádio
Aparecida. Dozens more opportunities to hear WS this week on WRMI
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770 - this just in to the WOR iog via Martyn Williams:
https://twitter.com/W7VOA/status/1500891270100799501
A crowdfunding campaign has resulted in VOA`s `Flashpoint Ukraine` via
WRMI, since VOA itself refuses to air it on SW, starting March 7 at
2105-2130 M-F after the news -- grid shows this will be at the expense
of Radio Prague! 15770 is aimed NE toward Europe, but remains to be
heard how far it may penetrate after dark.

I`ve hinted in the past to Jeff White that he should put at least some
NPR news on WRMI as a public service, offsetting crap like TOMBS,
SMTV, etc., etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5830, March 7 at 0702, S9+20/30 of dead air from WTWW-1,
while Ted`s Toy, 5085 WTWW-2 continues modublaring, prompting for rock
requests, and ``pinning the needle`` at S9+60 on my R75, hardly ever
happening with a non-local signal. Think of all the hot meals for
needy Lebanese which could have been purchased for the cost of all
that 5830 wasted juice. Unusually, Ivo Ivanov says 5830 was still on
the air and modulating Scriptures for America at 1058. Something`s
always loony at Lebanon (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6920-, AM, March 7 at 0211, Slavic? song at S8-S9,
noisy, 0216 English ID as ``--- Radio``, dramatic exchange, still past
0230, touch copy. Slightly off-frequency minus, smax of Radio Pushka
(Rifle). NO HFU reports of it now, but earlier in daytime March 6.
Still such a 6920-, AM signal at 0659, music at S5-S7 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6925 LSB, 0153 UT Monday March 7, unusual pirate not on
USB: a ham accustomed to LSB on 40 meters? S9/+10 of a country song,
0157 YL sings about Dublin-Town. 0200 announcement unreadable at much
lower modulation level, same or different station? Another song. More
YL talk and JBM VP music past 0210. Many more unID logs here
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,94016.0.html
6925-LSB also reported earlier in the March 6 daytime, same?
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,93985.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs March 5-6, 2022  View Printable Version
Sunday, March 06 2022

Logs
** AUSTRALIA [non]. (5035), Sat March 5 at 2040, no problem this month
connecting to live stream of `Calling All Radio Nutzz`, at
http://uk4-vn.mixstream.net:8104/index.html
I had just seen a reminder of it on the WOR iog altho it was posted at
1752, for the 1900-2100 show, so it`s almost over. Jen in S Florida
and GB in UK take turns with live-tuning segment, but don`t have much
success. He was trying to separate Bahrain from Spain on 1521 kHz
since Sa`udi is silent. Jen says they have two more monthly shows -
April and May, before taking off until September. Outro music runs
over until 2105 CARN and then Unique Radio IDs (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** AZORES. 6114, March 6 circa 0700 quick check, USN RTTY is still
rampant abutting 6115 Nikkei, Japan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. Ten meter contest F2 DX continues on 10 meters, quick check
at 0005 UT March 6, yes, yet mostly darkness path:
28350 USB, PY2YVN:

- PONTAL DO PARANÁ, PR 83255000, Brazil. More photos, smaller ones:
https://www.qrz.com/lookup/py5amf

I also took the opportunity to make a quick scan for JBA carriers from
SWBC harmonics on 28-30, 27-28, 23-25 MHz. Maybe at solar max, but
there are so few fundamentals from Latin America any more on 6, 9, 11,
13 MHz bands which might be capable of harmonicizing if they still
existed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) more ham DX below

** EGYPT. 9899.609v, March 5 at 2114, S7-S8 of dead air from R. Cairo
into UTwente, 2115 can`t hear any timesignal, but then traces of
distorted modulation. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** HAWAII. 28393.3 USB, March 6 at 0006, KH6LC making quick contest
contacts with a kW, S9 signal so wondering if this KH6 be really on
the Mainland? No. Told one contact he was off frequency, but what
about him? and waited for a `lid` to finish tuning up:
KH6LC Hawaii flag Hawaii

More info but not much photonic:

IIRC, Keaau was BIHI QTH of Dr. Richard E Wood. See also my previous
report for a bunch of ham logs which were not filed under individual
countries: BELIZE, BRAZIL, CAYMAN BRAC, CHILE, COLOMBIA, COSTA RICA,
PANAMA, URUGUAY. And BRAZIL in this report (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** INTERNATIONAL VACUUM. CNN, via Suddenlink digital cable ch 50 in
Enid, March 5 at 2053 UT suddenly breaks up video and audio. Could be
anything, but suspect it`s a solar transit outage. I quickly scan
other channels above and below and don`t find any others affected. In
2 or 3 minutes back to CNN, it`s recovered. See:
https://myvalunet.com/special-time-year-solar-interruptions/
Most systems find it too inconvenient to compensate with backup
alternative feeds (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 11840, Sunday March 6 at 1807, urgent tones of
anti-Christ pirate Station YHWH, reactivated after months` absence,
S7-S8 into VE6JY remote Alberta, -10 Hz carrier offset. Tnx to tip
from Rick Barton, AZ in the WOR iogroup. Last previous report of it on
11840 was also by Rick, Saturday November 20, 2011 until 1811*
Maybe back too on night frequency 7470 or 7475? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U K. [bdxc-news] Still no BBC Russian --- Could someone with BBCWS
connexions enquire why the registered new Russian broadcast as of
March 3, 1800-1830 on 9770 via Woofferton, has still failed to appear;
if it is ever starting when and where? The war is on! There was about
one second of a weak carrier cutting on and off at 1759 today,
listening via UTwente. Nor anything at remotes in Russia. 73, (Glenn
Hauser [sent at 1807 UT, not posted until 1854 following moderation
delay], also immediately via WOR iog)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2128 monitoring: confirmed Saturday
March 5 from 2031.7 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, Wentzville MO, VG into nearby
Warrenton SDR.

Missed checking 0030 UT Sun March 6 on WRMI 7730; anyone hear it?

Confirmed UT Sunday March 6 at 0438 about 7 minutes into so started
circa 0431 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+15 into Knoxville with storm
crashes; S9+10 into nearby MO SDR with heavier crashes closer to the
storms.

As usual, zzz missed checking Sunday March 6 at 1330 on WMRI Europe
via Channel 292, Germany, 9670; did anyone hear it? Next:

** U S A. (5085), UT Sun Mar 6 at 0120 tune-in, WTWW-2 webcast for
`TOUTA`. Once you hear this pristine $ tereo webcast you won`t want to
put up with the lousy monaudio on 5085. Starting to wrap up at 0149
with last piece but Ted can`t wait to get back to rock, overriding it
after a few notes. Probably started early before 0100.

Meanwhile, `Encore` on WRMI is mostly simulmissed this time, and I see
that the latest Playlist anyway has not yet been loaded to
https://www.tumbril.co.uk/playlists
I do hear the last dekaminute on 5850 via Knoxville, while Missouri is
buried in storm noise, also audible at KXV. Only other feasible chance
on WRMI will be UT Mon 0300 on 5950 --- exactly same time as début of
WBCQ Concert Hall on 4790 Radio Angela. With so little classical on
SW, a shame has to be at same time as Encore, but UB says it`s the
best logistical time for him. And both will be shifting one UT hour
earlier next week from March 14, so imposition of wacky DST won`t help
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (104.9), UT Sun March 6 at 0442, WCLV Cleveland OH webcast
during `Quiet Hour` announces the date for QSY and power/coverage
increase to 90.3 MHz: March 28. Also during previous 03-04 UT hour,
`Weekend Radio` was a sesquidecade-old repeat from 2007y as revealed
by a `current` news reference; when Robert ``Sagebrush Bob`` Conrad
sounded and was much younger; no explanation. Hope he is not ailing
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 27300 USB, March 6 at 0012, freebander I guess rather
than legal CBer, a mite with a distinct Oz accent, seems to ID as
``World Radio 304`` in contact with ``World Radio 918``. So where`s
the World Radio callbook? ``It looks like there aren't many great
matches for your search`` --- surely nothing to do with Tulsa or West
Virginia. Could it really be from Oztralia? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
