Hauser
** ALGERIA. 17600, Fri May 10 at 1800, Ifrikya FM is S9+5/10 into
UTwente, checking for any English but no, French. Recheck 1839 now
English in progress, YL with heavy accent about adversity in Africa,
students making a difference in agriculture. 1842 closing episode
credits, outro sounds like ``Baotin? Africa``. There was also music
thruout the show and from 1844 music only. Severe geomag storm makes
this direct at 2013 only S6/S9 with heavy flutter in strength and
Doppler in frequency. By 2034, 17600 also hit by severe flutter into
UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 87.9, May 10 circa 1845 UT, Mexmx in $ tereo, much like
the open carrier before. No announcements. No doubt a part 15 RF
feeder, may not be relaying a terrestrial station. This time I drive
around the block, and then walkabout with DX-398 eyeing signal meter
and conclude it`s coming from about one block away where a house is
undergoing some construxion or fixing; and can also barely hear it
earily. Strangely enough, most of the construxion workers around Enid
speak Spanish (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** PANAMA. 28282 CW, May 10 at 2015, about the only 10m signal is
fading out and in, a rather long loop, including: ``VVV HP1DCP/B ...
PANAMA ... COM 73S`` QRZ.com: ``HP1DCP Panama flag Panama, RENE IVAN
FONSECA, P.O.BOX 0819-09911, REP. OF PANAMA,
Panama`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Fri May 10 at 2200, token English from SNR is a total
loss due to auroral conditions, JBA carrier direct, likewise 15520,
nothing on 17715 or 15390. At 2226 into Maryland SDR, 15520 has a JBA
trace, the others inaudible (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, May 10 at 2200, no signal direct from VOT English,
nor at 2226 into UTwente or Maryland SDR. Probably really off, but
with today`s geomag storm it may be totally unpropagable (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2242 monitoring: confirmed Friday
May 10 at 2040 the 2030 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1322.995, VG S9+5
into UTwente, lite ACI from Spain 1314. 2059 IRRS s/off, and 2100
immediately into Feature Story News. As always, it will not really
turn off for several more minutes.

Also confirmed Friday May 10 at 2200 on WRMI 9955, VP direct tho
metering S9/+10; at 2226 into Maryland SDR, good S7/S9 atop lite pulse
jamming.

Also confirmed Friday May 10 at 2230 on SW Gold Radio, Germany,
3975.003, unusually only JBA into UTwente with severe propagation
disturbance. Next:

** U S A. Pre-`AAAWWW` WBCQs check May 10 at 2340, into NH SDR: 3265
off. 5130.240 just a trace occasionally locking. 6159.930 TOMBS at S7.
7489.929, FKB at S7/S9. 9330.00v, WLCR Portuguese oonly S4/S6. After
0000 UT Sat May 11, AAAWWW on 7490 only and soon obviously another
rerun, never mind. Meanwhile 5130+ has improved a little so I can tell
it`s ATATT. 0050 recheck direct, NO signals at all audible on any
except VP 9330 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9475, May 10 at 2355, WTWW is still here with T2P, QSY to
5085 at 2358 takes about 15 seconds, both very strong direct; and 5085
with those JBA spur carriers still about 5072.1, 5097.9 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15825, May 10 at 2023, WWCR air seems dead and heavily
disturbed with extreme horizontal and vertical flutter in severe
auroral conditions. But 2 MHz lower on 13845 it`s more or less
normally strong. 15770 WRMI with its southern advantage is also
unaffected (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 28390 USB, May 7 at 2044, PU9FDO calling CQDX, working a
WA5, and W1RPG? About the OSOB, no beacons either. Not 100% sure of
call as infrequent and foneteix not clear, but this call exists in
qrz.com: PU9FDO Brazil flag Brazil, Zap +5567981106759, Fábio Costa "(
BIO )", Av.Santiago do Chile 399 (GRID GG29QO), CAMPO GRANDE, MS
79104370, Brazil (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, May 8 at 0645, RHC Spanish S8/S9 direct, again on air
way late, but was not 24 hours earlier. Flanked by matching wobbly
spurs about 11755.3 and 11764.7.

15140, May 8 at 1504, RHC Spanish, S9 with spurs at same displacement
as last night, so same transmitter: 15135.3 and 15144.7. // much
weaker S3 11760, no spurs audible now. Something`s always wrong at
RHC. The Other Side:

``A liter of oil or five pounds of sugar? What a Cuban retiree's
pension can buy --- 'They conned us, and the worst thing is the
humiliation of having to depend on others, even when you have a
pension', says a former state restaurant worker.
YOAN MIGUEL GONZÁLEZ PIEDRA | Holguín``
https://diariodecuba.com/cuba/1715019230_54619.html
It`s not clear what unit of time the peso pensions refer to. They
think everyone would know that? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. May 8 circa 18 UT I`m bandscanning on the caradio since
there has been Es DX into the FM band reported eastward from Arkansas,
but I get nothing more than a couple suspicious fadeups on some
semi-open frequencies, which could also be tropo scatter.

Instead I encounter more local stuff: 89.3, KIEL, Loyal, the ``Radio
74 Internationale`` outlet which is somehow associated with France and
the 3ABN TV network, which also carries it on an audio-only subchannel
of K17JN Enid, still mislabeled K17JI -- with dead air, then just
barely modulation of a tone? pinging at the rate of approx.
144/minute. Later at 2048 with a slightly stronger signal, it sounds
like a clipped syllable by a YL voice like ``dap-dap-dap``, etc. Not
convenient to check how it sound on K17JN.

87.9, May 8 at 1843 UT, dead air in stereo, full quieting. Was not
there an hour before. Suspected from strange vehicle now parked next
door, i.e. a mobile RF feeder not turned off when not in use. Later as
I drive away, its range is little more than one block.

87.7, May 8 at 2019 UT, dead air in stereo instead of 87.9, at the
busiest intersexion in Enid, US 412/81, but maintains, so from a
parker, not a passer (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, May 8 at 2200, token English from SNR is weaker than
usual with fades during degraded propagation direct, but still
sufficient with brute force; 2208 feature interview about
relations/negotiations with UKQOGBANI over Gibraltar, four years since
it joined BREXIT (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 8 at 2200, no signal direct from VOT
English, either not on yet or propped out; but at 2233 into UTwente
when measured, VG S9+30/45. 2253 headlines, which they rarely repeat
at the end, 2254 s/off by the non-badax YL but she also claims we
``have been listening to`` 17620 at 1230! Something`s always awry at
Ankara; then only 3 or 4 notes of IS until chopoff before 2255*, no
finesse. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2241 monitoring: ``From: Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees,
Dear Glenn: Update, confirming WOR #2241, WRMI:
5850, QRN, 0130, 0155 (45343), 0159, May 4 UTC 2024 [Sat]
9395, 2330, 2344, 2358 S5, below, 2359, May 7 UTC 2024 [Tue]
(Lemke, Richard -AB)``

Confirmed Tuesday May 7 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9+10 but noisy into
Missouri SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday May 7 at 2330 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002,
S8/9+10 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday May 8 at 1931 on SW Radio, Germany, S9+10 on
6160.001, S9/+5 on 3975.001 both into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday May 8 at 2100 on WBCQ 7489.931, only S6/S7
into Maryland SDR, and doubtless much less if I checked direct. Too
bad that The Planet won`t employ a higher band in summery daytimes.
Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

** OKLAHOMA. Tornado outbreak early UT May 7. Already by 2227 UT May
6, tornado in next county. All four major OKC TV stations are
wall-to-wall, blowing away entire primetime schedules. FM bandscan
finds not a single OKC FM station plugged into TV coverage, business
as usual -- far-right extremist talk, stupid sports talk, commercials
and occasional music; nor at first around Enid. Finally by 0020, KFOR
is heard via 89.7 and 90.5 gospel huxters. KOFM 103.1 Enid finally
goes to weather coverage, local? much of it off-mike.

Each TV station has sibling ``sub`` stations where network prime can
be shunted. Not checked until 0350 UT when KSBI `52` has Colbert from
CBS instead of on KWTV `9`. NBC might have been shifted from KFOR `4`
to KAUT `43` but instead duplicating 4. KOCO `5` might have put ABC on
5.2, MeTV but not now, or ever? KOKH `25` Fox could go to KOCB `34`,
unchecked. All three of our TV screens in the studio are active,
leading us to conclude the same order of preference for storm
coverage, as the virtual channel numbers, 4, 5 and 9 [RF: 27, 7,
25].

A previous outbreak had WTW coverage blowing away NBC News at 5:30 CDT
as well as local KFOR news at 10 pm which normally plays back at 12:37
am - so we were pleased to find NBC News then instead, making it truly
`Nightly for once.

This night, as we are ready to run for our shelter, two tornado trax
storm just north of Enid and just south of Enid. How much longer can
our luck hold up? You may have seen what one of `our` tornadoes did
later to Barnsdall, Osage County (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 6 at 2206, VOT not off the air, S9+45/60
into UTwente, from news to `Review of the Turkish Press` at 2210
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.008, May 7 at 2158, VOT not off the air, IS audible
direct but insufficient vs noise level. Multi-hop propagation is still
degraded. After 2230 into Maryland SDR, it`s VG, S9+10/20. Badax is
talking for several minutes about what? I try to figure that out:
something about AI. 2245 outro as `Weekly Commentary`. They should let
the ``penner`` read it. 2246 ``always-by-your-side`` promo and
`Turkey`s Geomarked [sic] Products` - honey produxion in eastern
Anatolia from Caucasian bees, somekind of ``-- flower honey``. 2249
``with-you-every-hour`` promo, song. 2252 s/off by the OM mentions NO
SW, just satellite and internet. 2253.5 IS plays until 2255.7* chop,
no finesse, depriving us of any extraneous German to follow (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2241 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday May 7 at 0344 the irregular 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9+15 into
Querétaro SDR.

Confirmed Tuesday May 7 at 1320 the 1300 on WRMI 9955, but S7 JBA
direct, my voice recognizable, and seems like crosstalk but nothing
else should be on 9955; no jamming audible, anyway. Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.
