Glenn Hauser logs March 16-17, 2022  View Printable Version
Thursday, March 17 2022

Logs

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, March 16 at 1508, LRA36 is active this
Wednesday, music, only S2/S3 into Brasília #1 SDR, no signal into
Campo. 1510 ``Nacional, la radio pública`` ID; 1519 Antártida
themesong, gone off by 1523 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHILE. 28455 USB, March 16 at 2215, CE7VP, Javier is the only
signal on 10m -- good thing I bandscanned anyway, and no CW beacons
either. Says he is beyond Puerto Montt in southern Chile; island
sounds like pronounced ``Quiloé``, contact with WB7JB in Washington
state, even further than I, who am 9176 km = 5702 stmi; S4/S5, enough
to combat my local hi noise level. QRZ.com:

CE7VP Chile flag Chile
Javier "Javi" Capdebilla Alvarado, P.O. Box : 42, Quellon, Chiloe
Island, 5790000, Chile

``Saludos del Sur del Mundo --- Regards of the south of the world.
Chiloe Is. (SA-018) *Chilean Patagonia*``, some nice photos at
https://www.qrz.com/lookup/ce7vp
Then I scanned 12 m, nothing; 15m one unID phone; 17m a couple phone
signals, one Japanese sounding (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, March 16 at 1434, open carrier/dead air in Spanish
except for a squeal from RHC, S9+10/20 much stronger than 15230 which
does manage to modulate S8/S9. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, March 16 at 2226, RHC in French, S9+35 with hum, so
apparently on DST-adjusted schedule of 2200 French, 2230 Portuguese?,
2300 English.

11850, March 16 at 2227, RHC S9+20 but JBM, suptorted Spanish and
parasitic spur on 11840s. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE [non]. 15770, Wed Mar 16 at 1900, Radio for Peace
International test in Russian as pre-publicized, via WRMI. If
successful, will be prolonged. Opens with multi-lingual ID, news in
Russian, occasional English IDs. VG into Maryland SDR but did not
check in Europe, more concerned with 9370 R. Svoboda, but see later
reports about that. That left a 15-minute gap before VOA news and
`Flashpoint Ukraine` on 15770 at 1930, so I wondered what would fill
at 1915? Old favorites from the World Music reel which Richard Langley
and Bruce Churchill identified as including: ``First piece was "Amores
Imortais" by Brazilian singer Eduardo Costa.`` Then more
``international music (Chariots of Fire, Verdum En Dibe Kadar
(Turkish), Da Fing Der Sommer Noch Einmal An” (German) and a short
interlude “Vraho Vraho” (Greek)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** INDIA. 15030, March 16 at 1434, JBA with Doppler flutter, i.e. AIR
Dari at 1330-1500 via Bengaluru - no more sesquihour in English! a
worthless language per AIR. BTW, is INTRUDER like any other
broadcaster within the 15.0-15.1 MHz off-route aeronautical band, i.e.
military; despite longstanding invasions pioneered by BBC on 15070
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** RUSSIA [non]. 9370, March 16 at 1900 I`m checking various remotes
to get a feel for reception on second day of R. Svoboda in Russian tnx
to the crowdfunding initiative via secret site. It`s audible at TWR
Bengaluru, India which certainly implies a ``central`` Asia site, only
poor but at S9/+10. Armenia would fit and be most convenient after a
known relay on MW 1395 the previous hour; really southwest Asia. Of
the Eurussian SDRs, best into Izhevsk, which is way east of Moskva, VG
S9+10 at 1906. At 1907 a beep and some jamming/OTH radar starts
continually covering +9200-9550 or so, but still audible. Occasionally
also beep and louder sweep tones intermittently. At 1920 I find
Bryansk ``CrazySDR`` is getting a sufficient S5/S6 signal (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, March 16 at 2300 it`s Wednesday so REE in English,
feature to be about some American singer/songwriter, so over to TURKEY
instead, but first checking all four frequencies into Maryland SDR: VG
here and also 11940, 12030, while 11685 is noticeably weaker (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SRI LANKA. 15704.874, March 16 at 1437, JBA carrier way
off-frequency, i.e. AWR in Chinese via Trincomalee. Also with Doppler
flutter as befits such a transpolar signal. ChiCom probably do not
bother to jam as harmless? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TIBET [non]. 17585, March 16 at 1431, JBA carrier with Doppler
flutter, presumably ChiCom jammer against VOA Tibetan via Biblis,
Germany, scheduled this hour only. Seemed OSOB until I came upon
another JBA carrier on 17885, which would be VOA English via Botswana,
this hour only. Nothing on Ascension or Mali frequencies: but per Aoki
the only one to be on at this moment would be CRI Mali on 17630 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, March 16 at 2309, VOT English VG today into UTwente
with just a hint of squeal, already into first feature, `Feeling
Supreme`, on natural ways to keep memory sharp, by nutrition (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7780, March 16 at 0500-0517+, Ukrainian Radio via
WRMI; some online casts have included segments in English, originally
after 0100 UT, but only Ukrainian language heard now. This is addition
to original 12-13 UT relay on 5010 - not part of Shortwave for Freedom
crowdfunding as WRMI relayed UR before that was formed. I`ve yet to
confirm/listen to that, too early (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2129 monitoring: ``A short list, due to
stormy conditions, From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada,
the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna:
random long wires in the trees. Dear Glenn: World of Radio #2129,
confirmed, below with Details:
9395, splashing sound, QRN, 0231, 0244, 0258 (45343), 0259, March 12
[Sat]
7730, hear nothing, 0059, March 13 [Sun]
9395, QRN, 0030, 0045, 0059 (45433), 0159 [sic], March 15 [Tue]
9955, 2230, just heard jingle, 2258, March 15 [Tue]
5850, hearing World of Radio #2129, and confirming it, 1029, 1044
(55433), 1030, March 16 [Wed] (Lemke, Richard -AB)``

Confirmed Wednesday March 16 at 1035 the 1030 on WRMI 5850, VG direct
as I happen to awaken briefly.

Also confirmed Wed Mar 16 at 2100:20 on WBCQ 7490v, good S8/S9+5 into
Maryland SDR, unchecked direct to OK but no doubt inferior.

Also confirmed UT Thu Mar 17 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, VG S9/+10 into
Maryland SDR, and much weaker 9455 S8/S9 even tho the pair are
allegedly exactly same parameters, 355 degree antennas. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Next WOR 2130 should be ready early UT Fri March 18 for first
broadcasts at 0130 on WRMIs 5850, 7780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9475, March 16 at 1445, WTWW-1 surprisingly active on a
non-Sunday Wednesday, S9+20/30 with SFAW, so should 5085 WTWW-2 also
be running? No (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** YEMEN [non]. 11860, March 16 at 2227, surprised to hear some ME
music here, no Martí and even less jamming. Also overcoming the JBA
parasitic spur of RHC 11850 matching the one in the clear on 11840.
Aoki & EiBi show Martí off at 2230; Aoki has Republic of Yemen Radio
in a 2-hour break 2200-2400; but EiBi and WRTH show this target
broadcast as 24 hours, presumed via SA`UDI ARABIA (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

SPAIN. If it's Tuesday there must not be any English from REE, but
checking at 2305 March 15, all four frequencies are on instead of
yesterday only one, sounds Castilian but must be the Sefarad service
a.k.a. Ladino, a.k.a judeo-español on 9690, 11685, 11940, 12030.
Another one is on same set Saturdays at 2230 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs March 15-16, 2022  View Printable Version
Wednesday, March 16 2022

Logs
** CUBA. 11880, March 15 at 2258, Virginia SDR is getting music from
algo, I guess RHC, S9+10 and noisy, but then into deadair. Recheck at
2329, now it`s in English, so after flailing around a few days,
getting act together for English moved to 23-24 --- but at 2303 and
2329, 5040 is still in Spanish, not English. A different YL voice than
usual, something anti-American about Assange. Modulation is somewhat
distorted and scratchy on 11880. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

Spanish, otherwise? at 2328, 11950 // 6000, so `Mesa Redonda` is
resuscitated. Mainstream Spanish not // to those but to each other:
11760, 11670, 9650, 9535 music; but 11850 and its parasites are off as
are all 13 MHz channels except Chinamusic on 13650. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. Another RHC survey March 16 at 0101 via Maryland SDR: 5040 is
S7/S9 of dead air. 6000 is on VG S9/+10 and in English! unlike last
night. But no second English channel, all these off: 6060, 6100, 6165,
9700; on in Spanish is 9650. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MONGOLIA [non]. 5800, March 16 at 0145, Voice of Mongolia ID in
English, feature about the arts, UNESCO. This is a brand-new relay by
WRMI, Tue-Sat at 0130-0200: a big help as VOM`s direct English are
hardly heard in NAm, per WRTH 0900-0930 on 12085, 1530-1600 on 12015;
at 178 and 116 degrees resp., neither any good thisaway, let alone
inconvenient hours and MUFs. RMI is probably getting it thru
intervention of Kall which already relays VOM to Europe at 1300-1330
on 6005. Will have to listen to some whole VOMcasts if I can clear
such a semihour. Tnx to Richard Langley alert about this from WRMI on
disgraced FB. VOM replaces R. Prague International but which still has
some other RMI times. 5800 is on a 160-degree antenna like 9955 but
fairly audible backwards, sidewards (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. If it`s Tuesday there must not be any English from REE, but
checking at 2305 March 15, all four frequencies are on instead of
yesterday only one, sounds Castilian but must be the Sefarad service
a.k.a. Ladino, a.k.a judeo-español on 9690, 11685, 11940, 12030.
Another one is on same set Saturdays at 2230 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, March 15 at 2307, VOT into UTwente is on and very
good, S9+25/35 with only a slight squeal. Altho this is hardly audible
direct, we`re not looking forward to A22 when, stuck in a rut, VOT
goes back on 9830 at 2200, oblivious of all the RTTY from Puerto Rico
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2129 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday March 15
at earlied time on 2230 on WRMI 9955, S9/+10 direct, no jamming
audible. Next:

1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW, 9455 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7780, March 16 from 0200, R. Svoboda via WRMI is JBA into
Pskov SDR. Hope it`s doing better elsewhere in Russia. 7780, resuming
Russian at 0400, is S9+20/30 into UTwente at first with heavy
clatterpulse noise, OTHR or jamming? No good at the other few
White/Red Russian SDRs after 0400; Bryansk is silent. Not audible at
Minsk; Khimki near Moskva has signal trace but silent. Tambov is
always totally blocked above 7 MHz hamband (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
