Glenn Hauser logs July 7-8, 2019  View Printable Version
Monday, July 08 2019

Hauser
** BRAZIL. 9630.4, July 8 at 0132 and 0537, JBA carriers no doubt R.
Aparecida, active now (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6000, UT Mon July 8 at 0122, RHC mailbag show in English,
suptorted which is getting to be the norm on this frequency; better on
// 6165. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 5040, July 8 at 0531, RHC in Spanish instead of this hour
scheduled English; something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ECUADOR. 6050, UT Mon July 8 at 0124, S5-S7 talk in unknown
language, presumed HCJB rather than Tibet in Mandarin; but per EiBi
this segment is supposed to be in Spanish Sun-Thu, Quechua/Kichwa
Fri/Sat. Could it be those are local days rather than UT days? Better
signal than usual, anyway (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** INDIA. 7380, July 8 at 0117, ME music, poor, ACI from 7375 Romania
but 7385 WHRI is not on. HFCC shows it has to be AIR Bengaluru in
Sindhi service 0045-0200, 400 [sic] kW at 300 degrees (Glenn Hauser,
OK,, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA SOUTH [and non]. 15575, July 8 at 1319, KBS World Radio,
so-called North American service in English, JBA carrier even worse
with Doppler flutter. This is the date they were going to boost power
from 100 to 250 kW, but propagation is subnormal.

11710, July 8 at 1345, their friends in the North are doing much
better understanding Propagation 101: choral music at S7-S9, and much
better than // 9435; but VOK has their own drawbax, self-jamming noise
more audible during following English announcement on 11710 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. July 8 morning bandscan for signs of tropo DTV DX finds a
few Bad signals on `open` VHF/UHF channels, but one station is in
solid: RF 21, KUOT-CD, OKC, at 1359+UT, PSIP only KUOT on all five:
21-1, Cornerstone, 40th anniversary slide
21-2, IBN bug UR
21-3, 3ABN bug LR; blurry but legible photo:
http://www.w4uvh.net/KUOT-CD3.jpg
21-4, AFTV bug LR
21-5, Hope Channel bug UR

This lineup matches rabbitears.info which also shows an unused -6.
KUOT transmits from the SE side of OKC, just beyond Valley Brook (a
suburb one never hears of), near SE 97 street and Bryant, 591 feet
AGL, ERP 15 kW and slightly direxional to NW across the bulk of OKC,
not for us. Distance about 117 km = 73 statute miles. Holds up for
several more minutes; Hepburn tropo map predicted only marginal
level-1 enhancement between there and here (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 7260, July 8 at 0119, ME music, S9+25, i.e. VOT Spanish
hour also on 9870. What in the world are they doing broadcasting to
our Hemisphere amid the exclusive ham band? Correxion: this is NOT
IRAN as in my last report; I must have mixed up the lines as VIRI is
OK on 7260 until 0020 in French to W Africa (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7206-LSB, July 8 at 0151, KC4AA working simplex pileups, S5,
occasionally heard when they pause. Maybe they think he is on Navassa
or Antarctica? But QRZ.com lookup shows this exotic call now belongs
merely to:

KC4AA USA flag USA
WILLIAM G MILLS
188 ELLIS MILL RD NE
MILLEDGEVILLE, GA 31061-9020
USA

His contacts include FL, GA, as if here were away from there. His QRZ
info does not say he is anywhere else now, but all the excitement
makes me suspect he be DX.

In 1991-1994 he was HZ1AB in Sa`udi Arabia. I have a QSL from ``Hot
Ziggity, One American Boy`` but I think it was long before that,
probably a different op, club station? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 7268-LSB, July 8 at 0154, K2A, ``13 Colonies, representing
New York``, special event station. Not so piled up here as on 7206.
QRZ.com shows:

K2A USA flag USA
Kenneth Goetz-K2A & K2Z QSL Manager
74 Jerome Ave.
Cairo, NY 12413
USA

And here is the current QSL:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/files.qrz.com/a/k2a/K2Acard1.jpg
Presumably same call will be applied to other Events subsequently.

While tuned here, I hear an RF blast from my nearest streetlight
igniting at 0155 UT, only 3 minutes after our latest LSS of the year,
but western sky is cloudy (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1989 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
July 7 at 2130 on WRMI 7780, very poor [but we hope better in NE
America, Europe?].

Also confirmed UT Monday July 8 at 0130 following extraneous
``Sun-Power 5850, 7455, 9395`` ID, on 9395 WRMI, good and much
stronger than now // 7780 almost synchronized having just joined
together.

Also confirmed UT Monday July 8 at 0230 on WRMI 7780 again, poor-fair
in noise level.

Also confirmed UT Monday July 8 at 0300 sharp on Area 51 webcast, but
WBCQ 5130.36 not checked until 0327 when it`s dead air! Earlier around
0230 it was S9 to S9+10 with music. Still dead past 0330.

Also confirmed UT Monday July 8 at 0330 on WRMI 9955, S8-S9 vs noise
after operatic music fill. Next:

1816 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania, ND
0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE
0800 UT Tuesday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW [2 editions], ND
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 to SSE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE
0930 UT Friday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW, ND

Also check 9330 WBCQ for unscheduled airings during testing phase.

[it appears we will now be running on a Friday-to-Thursday
cycle, so freshest new airings are on weekends]

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9330.00, July 7-UT July 8, WBCQ-6 remains off the air like
it was last Sunday night, and still off at 1711 check July 8, the
target date for World`s Last Chance at flat-earthiness to take over.
At 0115 check, Brother Scare could be heard on old transmitter circa
9330.2, and again at 1706. I`m leaving a receiver on 9330 today as
much as possible: I cannot hardly wait (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENNG
DIGEST)

** U S A. 17775, July 8 at 1348, KVOH already on early again with
praise music, S7-S8 and the SSOB far beyond traces of Saudi on 17705,
17615+ but not 17895. Program sked still claims not until *1400 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

NEW HAUSER INTERVIEW

In May, Charlie VanSant, a WLW alumnus, interviewed me for his show
`Monitor` on Cincinnati RRS, June 27. Here it is, 10.3 MB, 28:34:
http://www.w4uvh.net/HauseronMonitor20190627.mp3

This has been added to linx for other gh interviews at the bottom of
http://www.worldofradio.com/audiomid.html
(Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 12880, July 7 at 1317, CNR1 jammer, S9-S6 during Sunday
evening cultural show, dramatic music and narration stronger than //
11540

13070, July 7 at 1317, CNR1 jammer, S3-S4

13150, July 7 at 1317, JBA carrier maybe another jammer; unlisted
Aoki. No, that would be local mix of 11760 RHC + 1390 KCRC

10960, July 7 at 1319, JBA carrier, maybe another; listed as vs SOH
relaying RFA. No other WOOB ones found 10-15 MHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA SOUTH. 15575, July 7 at 1356, KBS World Radio hits S6 but
totally unreadable, allegedly in English. They told Alan Holder, Isle
of Wight, that from July 8, full power of 250 kW would be restored,
after almost a year reduced to 100. Will it be 2.5 times stronger? Ha,
that`s not how it worx. Far more effective would be moving to 9 or 11
MHz band, or even better arranging a relay if they really care to be
heard in North America (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9475, July 7 at 1939, WTWW-1 is on day frequency instead of
night frequency, but only S9 peaks and JBM with PPPPP. Certainly
ailing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 10550, July 7 at 1320, that open carrier at S6-S5
punxuated by clix about once a second (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

This report dispatched at 1955 UT July 7

Hauser
** BRAZIL. 9630, 9664, 9725, 9818, 11815, 11856, July 7 at 0147-0148,
notable by their absence, not even JBA carriers from the mostly
off-frequency ZYs. Nor 11780 which I assume is off now, tho regularly
active earlier. The others seem to be disappearing from the ether one
by one. Or: curtailed skeds, and/or péssima propagação, as Carlos
Gonçalves, Portugal has reported all these except 9725 and 11856 in
late June at other dayparts; plus also 9515, 9550 and 11895 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6000, July 7 at 0132, RHC is suptorted S9+20/30, JBM, but I
can recognize it`s Arnie ending his other show `Breakthru`. Only //
6165, at 0135 is S9+25/35 and undermodulated but sufficient by
comparison now in jazz show. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 4765, July 7 at 0156, still no signal from R. Progreso. If
anyone ever hear it again, be sure to report; nominal sked was
0030-0400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** IRAN. 7260, July 7 at 0140 tune-in to music on AM, then a bit of
dead air and off, so I wonder if it`s an ham screwing around; until I
uplook 7260 in EiBi to find Iran in Spanish to Caribbean listed during
this hour. Lawless nation: ¿what are they doing broadcasting inside
the 40m hamband into our Hemisphere?

11660, July 7 at 0149 tune-in, convenient ID immediately in Spanish
for VRII, poor-fair S4-S7. This one from Sirjan to Central America
scheduled 2350-0250 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also
UNID 6151.5-USB

** KUWAIT. 17549.97, July 6 at 2225, R. Kuwait, JBA in Arabic, and
again by this hour both the Strongest Signal On Band, and Only Signal
On Band; knocked off-frequency just to make it more interesting,
taking over that task from RHC which now is right on 15370 and 7380
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6875-USB, UT Sun July 7 at 0137, dense rock music at
S9, no pauses or announcements past 0200. Many reports here
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,55749.0.html
starting at 0033, and no ID until 0202 as Mix Radio International; if
only I had stayed with it 2 minutes longer --- but I`m already late
for `Weekend Radio` on WCLV. HFU guys report it still going at 0240.
First pirate I`ve heard in quite some time except for YHWH (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 11980, July 6 at 0529, VOT is S9+10/S8, so despite my
previous comment, would be enough to enjoy some music, except it`s all
Turkish talk now, and somewhat muffled (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1989 monitoring: confirmed UT Saturday July 6
at 0130 on WRMI 7780, fair but not enough vs high local noise level.
Also reported by Mark Coady, Ontario: ``7780 USA WRMI at 0144 with
Glenn Hauser's “World of Radio” - Fair July 6``

Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria, reports: ``GERMANY, Reception of World of Radio
via HLR on 6190 CUSB, July 6

https://swldxbulgaria.blogspot.com/2019/07/reception-of-world-of-radio-via-hlr-on_6.html
0631-0700 6190 GOH 001 kW / 230 deg CeEu English Sat, weak
signal``

I try not to be awake before 1200 UT, but Mark Coady, Ontario reports:
``9955 USA WRMI at 1155 with Glenn Hauser's “World of Radio” - Fair to
Good July 6``

NOT confirmed Sat July 6 at 1430 on HLR 9485-USB; no signal at all via
UTwente SDR, just huge splash from 9490 Romania. As usual.

Confirmed Sat July 6 at 2109 the 2100 on WRMI 9955, fair-good.

Also confirmed UT Sun July 7 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+40/50, yet can
still hear some nearby lightning crashes from SE Kansas if not West
Texas. Fill music overlaps my introduxion, and even more of it
overlaps my outroduxion just before 0159.

Next broadcast may not be, as at 0158 I am getting no signal on 1860
kHz AM from WA0RCR, Wentzville MO; still no signal at 0328 when WOR
would be playing; despite S9+10 high local noise level, I can still
detect an LSB ham on 1940 kHz. Next:

1030 UT Sunday HLR 7265-CUSB Germany to WSW
2130 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to NE
0130 UT Monday WRMI 9395 to NNW, 7780-new to NE

0300vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 [maybe also 9330?] to WSW
0330 UT Monday WRMI 9955 to SSE
0930 UT Monday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW, ND
1816 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania, ND

Also check 9330 WBCQ for unscheduled airings during testing phase.

[it appears we will now be running on a Friday-to-Thursday
cycle, so freshest new airings are on weekends]

** U S A. 9330.00, Friday July 5 at 2343, WBCQ-6 with `Radio TimTron
Worldwide``, S9+30/20. Getting to be a habit in the hour before
AAAWWW, but presumably not any more once the flat-earthers take over.

9330.00, UT Saturday July 6 at 0000, WBCQ-6 starting `Angela and Allan
Weiner WorldWide` with Wm. Tell Ov., says quadricasting on all 4
frequencies, but no point in my bothering with the other three. Now I
am hearing slight overmodulation/distortion for the first time on this
bigsig --- need to back off the mod level just a tad, or as kvz would
say, a titch. I`m otherwise busy so leave it to our correspondent in
mid-north Indiana, John H. Carver, Jr.:

Tonight's show started about a minute early after a couple minutes of
fill music with voiceovers by Allan. Listening on 9330 this evening.
Allan and Angela in the studio complaining about the heat in Maine.
Angela is half naked according to Allan and he ended up taking his
shirt off. Freddie is on the phone by 0007. Talk of heat, 4th of July,
mowing grass and tractors. Allan and Angela were off last week for an
antique auto tour.

Freddie off the phone at 0036 allowing Tony Straka to phone in. Allan
says WLC will start broadcasting on Monday and so next week they will
be turning the antenna to hit different areas of the world. Phone call
from Freddie again at 0043 asking Allan if he could run an episode of
Trailer Trash Radio over the superstation. Allan says he will have to
find the old tapes, have someone transfer one to a CD so it could be
broadcast on the new transmitter and would have to be done this
weekend as WLC starts Monday.

Reading of emails at 0048 and a phone call from Larry Will after the
first email stating that he had access to the Trailer Trash tapes and
could transfer the episode that Freddie wants to the station. More
email at 0053 and immediately another phone call. Back to email and
phone call at 0056. Back to email. Automation cuts Allan off at 0100
and then fades down and Allan is faded up again. Closing prayer at
0101. Program was off the air at 0104``

At 0440 recheck I notice that 9330.00 is playing VORW.

9330.00, Sat July 6 around 2100 not on yet, but at 2207, unfamiliar DJ
is playing tunes he says are all from YouTube videos (so no copyright
concerns?), billed as ``WBCQ Shakedown Cruise``. Nice eclectic
selexion including ``Guantanamera`` at 2221. Too-quick closing at 2259
gave name and website neither of which I could catch; and 2300 into
another TimTron giving today`s date (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 5830, July 6 at 1941, yet again WTWW-1 is on night frequency
in the day, S7-S8 seems dead air, but straining, I think I can hear it
JBM. Nothing on 9475. By 2232 recheck, 9475 has finally come up with
SFAW.

5085, Sat July 6 at 2335, WTWW-2 starts `Theatre Organ in the Ozarx`
only five minutes late, and lasts only 28 minutes! until 2403. After
Bob Heil`s opening, no further announcements heard, just continuous
music, which of course I am really enjoying in $ tereo on webcast
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7505, July 7 at 0142, S9+35 of dead air from WRNO. Their
live air never has anything worth listening to anyway (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1210, July 7 at 0329 UT, ad for something in Mackinaw City,
so it`s surely still WJNL in Traverse City market, dominant now over
KGYN even on the east-west longwire. Prompted by my inquiry, Don
Hosmer now reports it to the WOR iog:

``I live 60 miles east and just south of WJNL's Kingsley xmtr site. I
am hearing the Jim Bohannon show from 0315 to present 7/06 on 1210
kHz. I get a fair signal using my directional W6LVP loop aimed at
Kingsley. But on my longwire and G5RV dipoles, co-channel Philadelphia
station WPHT (IDed at 0355) overpowers WJNL. No sign of their sister
station WJML 1110 kHz which is a 10 KW daytimer vs. WJNL's 50 KW. I
don't regularly listen to MW and can't tell if they are stronger than
in the past. Don Hosmer, W8SWL, West Branch MI USA``

Thanks, Don; from your obs, and my sufficient but not strong
receptions, WJNL may not be running the full 50 kW ND at night; maybe
the 2.5 kW critical-hours power which they should be using anyway
before sundown sign-off [non] and after sunrise sign-on [non] (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6151.5-USB, July 7 at 0134, weak 2-way INTRUDERS in
Spanish. Amazngly, at this time no broadcast signals are to be heard
on 49m band between 6070 CFRX and JBA carrier on 6155, which would be
Zahedan, Iran in Arabic until 0230 (and I see in EiBi, immediately
followed by BBC in Farsi for an hour via Uzbekistan; what a
coincidence) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) see also IRAN
