Glenn Hauser logs March 27-28, 2022  View Printable Version
Monday, March 28 2022

Logs
** CUBA. 11930 > 11860, March 28 at 0607, pulse jamming still running
in middle of night on these channels of R. Martí continuing A-22 in
daytime only; the incompetent DentroCuban Jamming Command (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN [non]. See USA: WRMI: 5985

** MEXICO. 28171 CW, March 27 at 2213-2219, only one beacon audible on
10m, but good sporadic-E signal, despite doldrums of March, Es MUF
commonly 70+ MHz on DXMAPs. The autokeying is strange, too compressed
without enough space between letters. Finally I copy it as 3 short
dashes, then XE1FAS/ B EK09VB with a big pause before the B. QRZ.com:

XE1FAS Mexico flag Mexico
SEGURA WALLS ALEJANDRO
31 PONIENTE 2926 COL.EL VERGEL
PUEBLA, PU 72410 Mexico

I suppose these names be patronymic, matronymic, given. He`s very
active in many modes, with photos:
https://www.qrz.com/lookup/xe1fas

``BEACONS : 28.171 , 24.929.5 , 50.030 ALL CW , (XE1FAS/B EK09VB ) 15
WATTS , LOOP ANTENA TRIBANDER ,OPERATED INTERVAL 20 SECONDS , 2260 MTS
HIGH, I APRECIATED A REPORT, FIRST MEXICAN BEACON IN 12 MTS AND 160
MTS , BEACON IN 2.000KHZ 160 MTS BAND 3 WATTS ANT QUARTER VERTICAL
ANTENA, IN OCTOBER APROX PUT IN THE AIR 472-479 HZ NEW BEACON .``
[sic]

The nine in his locator seemed more like another zero to me.
He is also on the WJ5O beacon roster:
28.171 XE1FAS C PUEBLA, MEXICO # 5W, VERTICAL NEW 30 Sept 10
Then I proceed to log a bunch of phone hams contesting, grouped below
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 11725, March 28 at 0601, BBC News soon with usual
optional cutaway ID, 0606 into BBC Newsday with no NZ ID. As on sked,
for Monday 7-8 pm local, this hour total relay of BBC, and far better
than any BBC frequency of its own to here, S9+10/20, by far the 25m
SSOB. Yet unseems // 7345 which is BBC Ascension (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** RUSSIA [non]. A few minutes after my last report was dispatched, I
check 9370 one more time via Pskov, Russia, remote, at 1959 March 27
and now it`s on VG, just in time to hear it closing and off 2000*. At
beginning of 1900 hour and various times amid, I never heard it, but
Richard Langley replies:

``Glenn: On 26 March, Radio Svoboda on 9370 kHz was on the air before
19:00 UTC. But the transmitter went QRT at about 19:06 UTC. It
returned to the air at about 19:53 UTC and continued to the end of the
broadcast. What was the problem? On 27 March, all was normal. I
record the frequency daily using the U. Twente SDR receiver. Don't
hesitate to reach out for info on the recordings`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** RUSSIA [non]. 7730, UT Monday March 28 at 0223 check, the R.
Svoboda relay in Russian via WRMI is now here ex-7780, S9+10, while
TOMBS cult is on 7780 and weaker S9 into Missouri SDR. Svoboda hours
remain 02-03 & 04-05, never 02-04 as in a Radio World article. The
reason for switch from 7780 to 7730 on the 44-degree antenna is that
the 17th! harmonic of 7.78 MHz on 132.26 MHz was interfering with
aeronautical communications east of WRMI. Now the 17th harmonic of
7.73 MHz on 131.41 MHz is not to be a problem (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, March 27 at 2209, VOT English has made the big A22
switch to here, ex 5960 an hour later. Huge RTTY QRM from USN Puerto
Rico about which TRT does not give a damn, year after year. However, I
can almost eliminate it by LSB tuning and bandwidth less than 3.0 kHz,
not something every listener is willing or able to do. Furthermore,
VOT itself is undermodulated today tho reading S9+20/25 and not sure
if that include the RTTY signal, Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 15375.000, March 28 at 1525, algo weak and right on
frequency compared to 15000.000 WWV. Must be TRT, only thing on 15375
at any time, 1300-1600 in HFCC A22; contrary to my March 27
measurement on 15375.733, which I should have pointed out was exactly
the same offset previous days above 11815. Something`s not erroneous
at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, March 28 at 0500, WRMI relay of Ukrainian
Radio now here ex-7780, S9+10 into Maryland SDR. Only Ukrainian
language 0500-0508+, seems like speech by Pres. Zelenskyy, but
interrupted by a different voice at 0507, so perhaps press conference
or interview; maybe English segment delayed to later in hour (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2131 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
March 27 after 2000 UT on IRRS via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9+20 but
noisy into nearby Noale SDR. Also at same one-hour earlified time on
WRN Europe webcast.

Also confirmed Sunday March 27 at 2230 still on WRMI 5950, altho
deleted from schedule, pending a new program? S9+15/20 into Knoxville
SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 28 at 0030 on WRMI 7780 ex-7730,
S7/S9+5 into Missouri SDR; yet 7730 with swapped programming is
stronger, S9+15/20. Weaker signal on 7780 is because it`s not really
on the 285 degree WNW antenna which had been 7730, but on a 222-degree
log-periodic, i.e. right off the side to our direxion.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 28 at 0130 on earlified WRN North
America webcast.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 28 at 0300 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160v,
S9+10 into Maryland SDR. Next:

0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to NNW
2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 9395 to NNW [new]

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html

Thanks this week for financial support from Gerald T. Pollard, Raleigh
NC, who sent a generous equinoxial check on a US bank to
Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702

One may also contribute, via PayPal not necessarily in US$ to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4790, UT Monday March 28 at 0240, `Concert Hall` on R.
Angela of WBCQ is playing Beethoven`s Ninth, finally arriving to the
choral `Ode to Joy` movement about 10 minutes later, S5/S7 into
Maryland SDR, and thankfully without the wideband whine which had been
QRMing 60 m all over the east coast. But there are occasional
uteblaaps of a few seconds each. At 0340-0348 I time them to find they
occur exactly 4:00 minutes apart! So why??? By 0345 U. Bill is filling
with a salsa version of Beethoven`s Fifth (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5985, March 28 at 0400, I`m monitoring WRMI via Brownsville
TX TWR SDR, when it`s time for NHK World Radio Japan`s Spanish
broadcast which has just been canceled. It`s only S5/S6 but better
S9/+15 at TWR Bonaire, this 222 degree beam toward C America. Regular
lovely `Sakura` opening theme, but modulation chopped at 0401, dead
air of carrier still on rest of semihour, as if WRMI just realized it
was supposed to be canceled but nothing yet to replace it. Was
probably starting automatically to play back last edition uploaded to
server, yesterday`s? 0430 modulation resumes with variety program in
Spanish. I suspect it`s `La Rosa de Tokio`, but skedgrid calls for it
to be on UT Sunday, not Monday when `Viva Miami` supposedly occupies
the entire semihour. Seems interrupted at 0459 for ID, but unknown
what`s next as I am over to 7730 for Ukraine relay, q.v. (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955 & 9455, March 28 at 0609, no signals from these WRMIs
tho propagation is fine, S9+20 of TOMBS on 9395. All three are
supposed to be 24h per new skedgrid dated March 27. BTW, 9395 & 9455
are no longer shown as same azimuth, rather 355 on 9395, 285 on 9455,
which explains the disparity in signals to the east coast but not the
Midwest (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) More WRMI: RUSSIA, UKRAINE [nons]

** U S A. 9940, March 27 at 2207, WTWW-2 rock programming on here
again, S9+45! Supposedly a WTWW-3 frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7505, March 28 at 0632, WRNO absent again; not noted yet
whether on air at all earlier from 0100 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

re Bauta Cuba 11880 kHz today March 27 / 28:

CUBA RHC Bauta slewed 130 minus 30degr, real 100degr main azimuth towards
Angola, RSA, Mozambique clientel in South Africa.
Heard English today March 27 in 23-24 UT time lot during A-22 season.
{and 5040 kHz Bauta relay in 60 meterband too}

As usual back- and sidelobe signal in North America, even on excellent
Perseus SDR at Edmonton CAN is always much decreased, tiny and poor
strength.

Today March 27 African service was on exact measured
11879.996 kHz,
noted as always on remote SDR remotedly in Eastern Brazil Kiwi installation,
on path towards Southern Africa across the Atlantic.

At 23.55 UT RHC English hour from Bauta site, S=9 or -67dBm signal strength
in eastern Brazil Kiwi rx remotedly.

Bauta TX switched OFF at 00.01:45 UT exact, before some seconds
of Spanish language sce heard on that channel.

Others from CUBA tonight 23.48 UT:
5990 kHz even of CRI Beijing, via Quivican San Felipe TITAN relay sce,
in En 23-24 UT, and also accompanied by hx 11980even kHz S=7-8 in Alb-CAN,
followed by CRI Beijing Spanish sce 00.00-01.00 UT on same Latin AM
relay center on Cuba island.

RHC English 23-24 UT on Bauta 5040 kHz,
at same time slot also 31 mb outlets in Spanish on
9535.002 kHz S=7-8 and 9650.002 kHz S=9+5dB at 00.18 / 00.21 UT
on Edmonton Alb-CAN - via older former USSR relay Bejucal site.

and 11670even Bauta, 11760even Bauta, 11850 even kHz from QUI.

Noted CODAR swich on 13380-13576 kHz frequency range covered.

Checked at 00.04 UT on March 28:
15730.009 kHz exact measured against WWH and WRMI 15770 kHz comparision.
Vie Bejucal site, S=9+10dB or -72dBm strength.
French service from 00.00 UT with nice fine audio quality,
not disturbed tonight.

Further RHC Spanish also on 13740even Bauta site S=9+25dB or -72dBm
best Spanish service channel in Edmonton Alberta,
and S=9+15dB signal strength but much 'small audio band' modulation on
15230even kHz via Quivican San Felipe TITAN 250 kW beast
towards Brazil and Argentina eastern South America target.

Talk on - never ending story - Guantanamo US justice camp theme
at 00.15 UT.

In 00-01 UT time slot noted Quivican 250 kW beast 6000even kHz
RHC English and in 49 mb also on Bauta bcast center outlet
6164.997 kHz on lower flank.

At same 00.28 UT March 28 time slot came across a Ham Radio talk in English
on 5950 kHz via WRMI Okeechobee at 00.00-00.30 UT.

CUBA. 11880, March 26 at 2259 past 2300, NO signal from RHC whose
so-called "African" service in English had been more-or-less at this
hour since DST started March 13. Now, what? A-22 might bring a
frequency if not time change. Something's always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** RUSSIA [non]. A quick update to my just sent report:
9395, March 27 until 2000*, via Pskov SDR, R. Svoboda in Russian just finishing at 1959 and off. This frequency must have come on very late during the hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

secret site, believed Armenia. An anomaly or gone for good? Need to
keep checking, also the 18-19 hour on MW 1395 definitely Armenia,
