Glenn Hauser logs January 31-February 1, 2020 |

** CHINA. 6140, Jan 31 at 2355, YL singing ``Swing Low, Sweet Chariot`` until cut off at 2357*. Typical rude behaviour of CRI: yes, listed as Cantonese service via Kunming site, but whyever would they be broadcasting that song/hymn? 6100 also propagating, CRI Portuguese fill music via Beijing site; not to mention 12190, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA. 12190, Jan 31 at 2347 Chinese, VP with heavy flutter, CODAR QRM; a *jammed Sound of Hope frequency, presumably with CNR1. I bet this is on Wolfie`s latest exhaustive monitoring of these: ``Log of Jan 23-26 checked some Asian target outlets on remote SDRs in Hiroshima, Akitakata, northern Tokyo Japan; as well as at Doha Qatar and eastern Thailand SDR rxs. 12189.955 TWN SOH Chinese S=4-5 weak and tiny at 0626 UT on Jan 26 12190even CHN CNR1 jamming signal against TWN SOH services at 0748`` But I was hearing only one signal. I deleted ``UT`` after the second time as redundant clutter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MADAGASCAR. 5010-, Feb 1 at 0332, JBA carrier on minus side as in RNM; but I was not hearing any of it before 0200 vs WOR/WRMI, nor after (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 88.3 WBFM, Feb 1 at 0328 UT, for the first time tonight, K202BY translator for Enid is back on the air with nominal good signal and modulation, no spurs, obviously repaired/replaced for new owners, from Family Radio, to ``Great Plains Christian Radio``, a.k.a. KJIL, originating with 99.1 full-power in Copeland KS. They have a bunch of translators and a few non-translators in western KS, but as far east as Emporia, plus adjacent parts of CO, TX and OK, including a translator as close to Enid as Fairview but not heard until now in Enid. Program was `Focus on the Family` ``on KJIL``, then commercial for Harvest Transport. Now I`ll have to use 88.1 instead for RF feeder purposes in the car and home, or even further to avoid ACI. As I had been reporting, K202BY had been out of whack, dead air, or off the air for many months, depriving us of the wisdom and remarkable prophecy of Harold Camping (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** THAILAND. 13750, Jan 31 at *2357.6, VP carrier on, as I am parked here waiting for HSK9`s so-called eastern North American service direct from Udorn; 0000 Feb 1, JBA modulation. Never better than this here, or inaudible. No Cuba on 13740 tonight (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 31 at 2345, VOT English to us gone again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2019 monitoring: confirmed first WRMI broadcast, Friday January 31 at 2300 on 9955 --- I`m listening via Bogotá KiwiSDR where reception is good with no jamming audible, but at 2323 check direct, mixing with jamming, more or less readable depending on fading, but night conditions are closing in and dropping the MUF. Never mind my suggestion that others listen now via Colombia; that SDR only accommodates a few listeners at a time; so if you can access it via the web, you can also access the WRMI webcast, or podcast via multiple sources; do that rather than tie up SDR. Also confirmed UT Saturday February 1 at 0130 on three WRMIs direct: 5010, S9+10 but noisy; 5850, S9+10/20, better but not the big solid signal it usually is; and 7780, only S9 and noisy. Next: 1300 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0400vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415] 2130 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 9395 0400vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 0430 UT Monday WRMI 9955 0900 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 0930 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB [another episode] 1900vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5850, UT Sat Feb 1 at 0200, WRMI starting VORW after WOR, this time John saying it`s the ``newest`` show of Thursday 15 August --- so he`s still rerunning during dental healing; three weeks ago it was the 8 August show (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (7490.25v), UT Sat Feb 1 before 0100, hardly any signal from WBCQ nor on 5130, so I bring up webcasts for `AAAWWW`, both main and Area 51, but despite WTO theme, it`s Pirate Joe substituting this week, into political ruminations which I might find agreeable, but not expecting any WBCQ tech or programming info, move on to other monitoring. John Carver in IN was not getting either SW signal at all until end of hour on 5130. 7490+ had been audible here but fading down by 2300 for `Behaviour Night` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 17775, Jan 31 at 1951, VP signal S6-S7 with gospel music, presumably in Spanish, the SSOB and also the OSOB: KVOH. Nice to know it still exist, as usually inaudible, especially when checked around nominal *1500 M-F. We still await an update about if and when their `new` transmitter was ever put into service (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 8992-USB, Feb 1 at 0003, ``New Deal`` concluding alfanumeric cryptomessage, pause, ID and repeat. NO RTTY CCI today, and always has echo/reverb to add to its mystery. Never the same ID again; or from same site? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 12746-USB, Jan 31 at 2348, 2-way in colloquial informal Spanish, engine noise, not long before `puta` mentioned; intruders? I wish some native speakers would monitor all these and give us an idea what/where they are about (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0615 UT February 1

** CANADA. 223-MCW kHz, Jan 31 at 0712 UT, ND beacon YYW, which is 1000 watts from Armstrong, Ontario (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. Correxion, first frequency should be 11880, of course, not 11860: fixed: 11880, Jan 30 at 2238, RHC English is S9+40 with VG modulation; but 11850, RHC Spanish is S9+20 and just barely modulated; along with its -10 kHz spur on 11840 rating S9-S8 but with no modulation audible; its mate on +10, 11860 is JBA QRMing the jamming which is still running against OCB. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13637, 13569, 13764, 13829 approx., Jan 31 at 1521, FM/AM spurblobs out of RHC 13700-AM, also with F# tone reconfirmed on my keyboard above C-middle, about 370 Hz. These would be fascinating topix for Arnie to explain, but never will admit there is anything wrong at RHC; or if he did would blame it all on the blockade (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Jan 31 at 1555, RHC is S9+20 overmodulated and distorted as has been for several days now, at least consistent; while // 15230 is weaker S9+10 undermodulated and not distorted. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15700, Jan 31 at 1553, CRI English relay is undermodulated today but no squealyspurs +/- 4 kHz in the sidebands as there were yesterday. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MALI [and non]. 13685, Jan 31 at 1519, CRI English with `World Today`, poor but // 15700 via CUBA; need LSB to evade WINB hybriDRM 13685-13690-13695, yet intermittent carrier 13684.8 QRM, maybe out of WINB transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Reminder, first WRMI airings of WORLD OF RADIO 2019 are: Fri Jan 31 at 2300 on 9955; UT Sat Feb 1 at 0130 on 5010, 5850, 7780; Sat 1300 on 15770 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 750, Jan 31 at 1455 UT, talk show mixing with gospel music from KMMJ Grand Island NE. KMMJ signal is steady from groundwave, weakly audible all day in KRMG splash; the other from NE/SW fades up and down slowly, skywave. At 1459 only ID semi-caught mentions 104.3 FM, which corresponds to KMMJ`s tail-wagging-dog translator; and then 1500 USA Radio News, which does not fit for KMMJ with SRN news per NRC AM Log, but rather KBNN Lebanon MO. USARN dumps to commercials after only 1 minute at 1501. KBNN seems unreasonably close geographically to 10+kW direxional daytimer+ KMMJ, but KBNN is a 5 kW ND daytimer which does not make it here in full insolation. They are 608 km apart; from Enid, KMMJ is 505 km over superior ground conductivity; KBNN is 484 km. BTW, NRC Log shows belabored slogan for KMMJ, ``Keeping your Mind on the Message of Jesus``, surely a back-formation as original station was not a gospel huxter. Easily found on the first FCC history cards from 1925-1926 was the original licensee, M. M. Johnson Co. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 4980, Jan 31 at 0639, JBA carrier, suspect WRMI low-power unit, not on schedule any more. Certainly not East Turkistan propagating from local midday, and no other broadcasters known on 4980. Most of the time at other chex, no such carrier heard. Of course, could be utilitarian (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 13752.2-USB, Jan 31 at 1518, 2-way in Spanish INTRUDERS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1913 UT January 31

Friday, January 31 2020
** BRAZIL. 3365, Jan 31 at 0029, no JBA carrier here from R. Cultura de Araraquara, unlike 24 hours ago, so maybe gone for good; but did not try remotes again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** BRAZIL. 9630.345v, Jan 30 at 2251, R. Aparecida is on now with split frequency which I have not been hearing late at night, like 9666v Voz Missionaria; now Aparecida is also // on 11856.303v amid the Cuban mess. Might audiblize their Saturday DX program, but what`s the time, 2100? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 395-MCW kHz, Jan 30 at 0726 UT, dash and YL, 1600 watt NDB at Lynn Lake, Manitoba, which is more than a megameter NNW of Winnipeg, even beyond Flin Flon, not far from the SK border; or 2286 km from me (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6060, Jan 30 at 0654, this is the only VG signal and modulation of The Cuban Five in English; 6145 is fair; 6100 JBM; 6000 suptorted; 5040 strong but squealy overmodulated. Something`s always wrong at RHC ::: (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13740, Jan 30 at 1551, RHC still on a couple hours late with dead air at S9+10/20; forgot to turn it off? While 13700 is normally modulating with no spurs today; something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15696 & 15704 approx., Jan 30 at 1553, squealyspurs in the sidebands of CRI Plus relay, which sounds OK on 15700 itself. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11860, Jan 30 at 2238, RHC English is S9+40 with VG modulation; but 11850, RHC Spanish is S9+20 and just barely modulated; along with its -10 kHz spur on 11840 rating S9-S8 but with no modulation audible; its mate on +10, 11860 is JBA QRMing the jamming which is still running against OCB. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** JAPAN. 9890, Jan 30 at 2249, NHK Japanese is VG S9+10/20, still amazingly strong for a broadcast listed for the opposite direxion to SE Asia; as I continue to suspect it`s erroneously azimuthed thisaway from Yamata. This time a long-path echo is also barely audible during brief fades (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 4117-USB, Jan 30 at 0026, pirate music found here after nothing on the 6.9 MHz band; S9+10 but generally too poor to enjoy the music or copy exactly what the DJ says, but I can recognize some of it; now it`s ``My Old Friend Martin`` (Luther King). 0029 ``Linden Tree``; i.e. string of folk songs; 0034 DJ mentions folk music, downtown Los Angeles, wish this could be in stereo; long pause at 0035, Santana; 0049 says station is a work in progress; banjo song; 0058 blues, 0102 another. 0105 says listened to his own audio and it sounds wonderful; hasn`t bought a CD in 20 years; brief noise bursts; 0111 talks over music, blues; 0117 still going with YL song, ``Let`s Call the Whole Thing Off``; 0122 more folk music; 0125 song with guitar and fiddle; 0128 YL group song or overdubbing; 0132 ``Universal Soldier``; 0134 DJ says he hasn`t heard that in decades, and should play another from same CD. Next recheck at 0153, it`s off. Never heard any ID and wonder if he ever gave one. Now to check HFU: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,62764.0.html Many logs there say it was Zeke`s Attic, with much more complete playlists; and Harold Frodge say he pronounces it Zee-kee. Please QSL? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PHILIPPINES. 9450, Jan 30 at 2259, ``Jesus Saves`` IS from FEBC Bocaue, 2300 sounds Thai-like, music with flute and drum. It`s Iu Mien at 2300-2330, which is spoken by 400K each in S China and Vietnam, per EiBi; for whom original religions are not good enough. Some splash from 9455 WRMI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SAUDI ARABIA. 11820.045, Jan 30 at 2240, SBC Qur`an is S9-S7, always off+frequency; a sign of spring as this has not really been propagating in the depth of winter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Thu Jan 30 at 2300, REE with `Amigos de la Onda Corta`, first discussion of TVE in Catalunya, and a museum preserving RNE artifacts; S9+20/30 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 30 at 2301, quick check confirms VOT English on the air today, with disclaimer not to expect any Breaking News on this or the 0400 broadcast, recorded earlier; relatively poor signal compared to Spain on 9690 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 426-MCW kHz, Jan 30 at 0720 UT, very strange beacon ID because two are overlapping at same pitch: I do copy SU and then a Z. But in between unclear what. Must be two I have logged before individually, but even after a few minutes now they have not diverged, like periods synchronized rather than taking turns. Apparently the two 25-watters, IZS in Montezuma, Georgia, and UV in Oxford, Mississippi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2019 contents: Albania non, Argentina non, Bolivia, Bougainville, Brasil, Canada, Cuba, Germany, Indonesia, Korea South & North, Mali, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, Russia and non, Spain, Turkey, UK, USA; dangers of 5G; propagation outlook WOR 2019 is available as of 2325 UT Thursday January 30 (mp3 stream) http://www.w4uvh.net/wor2019.m3u (mp3 download) http://www.w4uvh.net/wor2019.mp3 Or via http://www.worldofradio.com/audiomid.html Also linx to podcast services. The shortwave broadcasts should be: 0900 UT Friday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 2300 UT Friday WRMI 9955 [usually starts with heavy jamming but maybe abates; try a remote KiwiSDR in Colombia] 0130 UT Saturday WRMI 5850, 5010, 7780 1300 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0400vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415] 2130 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 9395 0400vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 0430 UT Monday WRMI 9955 0900 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 0930 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB [another episode] 1900vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 13685-13690-13695, Jan 30 at 1550, WINB-DRM noise is S9+10; that is noise on the top half, beepery on the bottom half, never explained. Summary for `Wavescan` Dec 29 says they have 3 x 15 kW DRM transmitters; strange, as never heard on more than one at a time, and sounds more like the registered 50 kW than 15; likewise 7310-7315-7320 late in the night. Or maybe 15+15+15 kW at a time? (Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 2019) ** U S A. 690, Jan 31 at 0113-0130+ UT as I am bandscanning MW for any sign of live coverage of acting president Drumpf Impeachment Trial --- zilch --- I can`t help but notice KGGF Coffeyville KS in dead air. Clearly this, the normally dominant signal here day and night, tho the OC facilitates several other signals, notably Spanish presumably XEN rather than Cuba. By 0151 check, KGGF has revived with condescending financial advice to a very indebted ex-medical student in danger of burning out: work very long hours for a few years (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1090, Jan 30 at 0701 UT, yet another check of what`s happening at Cumulus` KAAY Little Rock AR: PSA and illegal ID ``AM 1090 KAAY``, 0701.6 into mandatory dead air circa ToH; 0705 revives, JIP tail end of SRN news, 0705.5 gospel music (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 8992-USB, Jan 30 at 2256, US military alfanumeric crypto message but with heavy RTTY QRM, one carrier zeroing at 8993.6. Both stop about the same time, 2258, making me think that is not coincidental; same transmitter? I was looking for 8989 el pescador predicador nicaragüense, no show (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 12469.50-USB, Jan 30 at 2229, contact between two YLs, unusual in Spanish, conveying traffic, reading out some document with ``dos puntos`` = colon, maybe URLs, but also mentions ``grados`` = degrees so maybe about weather or navigation. Much spelling out fonetikally, employing the English A-B-Cs --- ``November`` etc., but otherwise in perfect non-colloquial Spanish. And not a word about putas! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 15111.11-USB, Jan 30 at 2157, 2-way in colloquial Spanish, INTRUDERS; 2158 one of them whistles, and with engine noise in background (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 15803-USB, Jan 30 at 2213-2223, 2-way in colloquial Spanish, discussing putas, etc.; not INTRUDERS into the 19m SWBC band if you buy that it ends at 15800 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0511 UT January 31

** BRAZIL. 3365, Jan 30 circa 0020, JBA carrier direct from R. Cultura de Araraquara, but from 0030 VG local-like signal via Pardinho SDR also in SP state, with hyper-enthusiastic coverage of silly ballgame, or perhaps preliminaries; suspected to be its final day on air if not tomorrow. Many others are monitoring this, but the occasion is not enough to keep me listening to such nonsense. I have yet to hear any ID even in passing, but no doubt this is it, based on info in my previous report. How about something *cultural*? Website as in WRTH http://www.radiocultura.net is only one static page, no info on program schedule, but does refer (not link) to its disgraced FB, which is very active and nothing about programming found there either, but nothing to indicate anything cultural (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA [and non]. 530, Jan 29 at 0720, Spanish talk // 5025, so Radio Rebelde which could be either far Guantánamo 1 kW, or closer Isla Juventud of unknown power; mixing with EZL music from Radio Enciclopedia, near Habana which is normally the only Cuban heard; and at times with third station no doubt CHLO Ontario (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KOREA SOUTH. 1566, Jan 29 at 1335, TP carrier from NW, strongest vs the low-banders which are just about gone by now; LSR 1335 UT. I keep on it and at 1344:32 the carrier drops off, but then I hear it again more weakly. That would be the FEBC Jeju Island antenna change from Japanese to Chinese. Before the switch, 1566 had some long slow fades, maybe SAH of less than 1 Hz from another station rather than propagational? But there are nothing else but six China stations of 10 or 1 kW listed. I assume it`s not considered worth jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 29 at 2357, VOT IS has stayed on after English and now the German IDs start, presumably prior to axual German bonus broadcast but unrechecked until 0050 Jan 30 when it`s off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 426-MCW kHz, Jan 29 at 0725 UT, ND beacon IZS, which is 25 watts from Montezuma, Georgia; mixing with something else at first hard to unravel. The only others are in AL and MS. Where`s that? Twin city with Oglethorpe, SW of Macon -- I was not aware of them during my brief stint at Warner Robins AFB. 428-MCW kHz, Jan 29 at 0724 UT, ND beacon POH, which is 25 watts from Pocahontas, Iowa; the only 428 at dxinfocentre.com and the highest in the 400s from conterminous US, exceeded only in CONUS by an Alaskan on 429. Where`s that? NW of Fort Dodge (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2018 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday January 29 at 2100 on WRMI 7780, poor. Also confirmed Wed Jan 29 at 2200:23 on WBCQ 7490.26, fair S9/+10. Also confirmed UT Thu Jan 30 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, JBA. Next WOR #2019 should be ready by early UT January 31 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15770, Jan 29 at 1900, this reactivated WRMI is only JBA via UTwente SDR; direct here around 2020, much better with Radio Prague relay in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1090, Jan 29 at 0703:20, KAAY, Little Rock AR ID and then dead air; 0705.0 JIP tail end of SRN news, and then 0705:30 into gospel music. Something`s always wrong at ToH (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0257 UT January 30

Wednesday, January 29 2020
** ALBANIA [non]. 15770, Jan 28 at 2046, Radio Tirana relay by WRMI is back here after change to 11580 yesterday only; S7-S8, ID and `Cultural Activities`. Altho aimed at Europe, not me, 15770 was not making it to UTwente a few minutes earlier, while 11580, 4+ MHz lower, into the night, might have. The 0230 UT Jan 29 repeat JBA on 9395 here but good via the KF2DA KiwiSDR in NY; see ARGENTINA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ANTARCTICA. 15476-, Jan 28 at 2050, JBA carrier slightly below 15476, typical of LRA36, so is it on without notice? But when I bring up Pardinho, Brasil, SDR a few minutes later, no show. Harold Frodge replies, ``Weak carrier only on the North Coast at 2101.`` --- does that mean his home location of Midland, Michigan? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ARGENTINA [non]. 9395, Jan 29 at 0215, RAE ATTW relay in English via WRMI is as most of the time JBA, unusable, the winter night MUF just too low, while it would be fine if on 5800 right after Spanish. So I try some SDRs which might be getting it. No good in Pardinho, Brasil, nor Bogota, Colombia. I thought it might make the latter off the back of the 355 degree azimuth; then I try some eastern North America Kiwis; still no good until I get far enough away to upstate New York, that of KF2DA, and not too far off the boresight. Program is about Daniel Barenboim who is appearing in Bs. As. Wrapping up but not quite finished at 0230 when chopped off for switch to Radio Tirana IS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL. 3365, Jan 28 at 2355, JBA carrier, R. Cultura de Araraquara SP, which has been reported active lately. Then I see this on the WOR iog from Dan Robinson: ``Being heard NOW 2330 via several Northeast U.S. SDRs, and http://186.193.231.135:8073/ at S.B. Campo Brazil where the level is huge, as it is via Pardinho`` Too hard direct, too easy via Pardinho, hi. Listened for part of semihour 0000+ without hearing an ID, news/talk, music, but off by 0032 UT. Time is running out to DX this rarely active station: Karel Honzík, Czechia had reported it as unID January 26/27, 2345-0005. I listened to his clip and intonation certainly sounded Brazilian. Rudolf Grimm, Brasil, replied on HCDX: ``Hi Karel, Radio Cultura 3365 kHz uses the 90 m signals on this time each year, when the city's soccer team (FC Ferroviaria) plays the annual state soccer championship. A strong signal was heard here in São Bernardo (close to São Paulo) yesterday. The 90 m signal is kept in the air only during the football match. The signal is then deactivated. Also, the announcer informed on the air that Radio Cultura de Araraquara at 790 kHz will be migrating to FM on January 30 (in a few days!). It is understood that the 90 meter signal will probably also be able to close permanently on the same day. 73, Rudolf Grimm, São Bernardo SP`` Then, Alan Pennington, UK, told the WOR iog: ``But AFE have another match (at home) tomorrow, Wednesday 29th January (versus Sao Paulo), kick-off at 2130 local time (2330 UTC) http://ferroviariasa.com.br/ So will 3365 kHz be on air for that match also? But maybe on 90 metres for the last time? 73, Alan Pennington, Caversham, UK`` That would be 0030 UT Thursday in the UT-3 local timezone in SP (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Jan 28 at 1554, RHC is undermodulated/distorted as it has been lately here, whilst weaker // 15230 modulation is OK. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11880 // 15370 // 15140, Jan 28 at 2113, in decreasing order of signal quality, RHC in Brazuguese on all, rather than three different languages, Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11850, Jan 28 at 2352, RHC is S9+30 but suptorted, just barely modulated. Wiggle that patchcord; something`s always wrong at RHC. 11950 has total dead air of S9+20, but it`s just warming up for the 0000 `Mesa Redonda` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 27184.9-AM, Jan 28 at 2117, S9+10 of open carrier as some local yocal is blocking this prime CB frequency; I had noticed same yesterday on caradio, so deliberately checked it today (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. From 1800 UT Tue Jan 28, the Impeachment Trial of acting president Drumpf resumes in the US Senate; today three OKC network affiliates plug into it, KFOR NBC, KOCO ABC and KOKH Fox --- but KWTV resumes local noon news --- and winter weather, rather than CBS. Not sure if this was CBS` decision or not, but the Republicans stopped today after only a couple hours, so everything except cable TV back to normal (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 28 at 2344, VOT absent again from English to us, which should not have concluded quite yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7190-LSB, Jan 28 at 0708, W6WWV on the Triple-H Net, asking for check-ins; not many despite nationwide propagation, and turns it over to other NCSs. Many calls heard, but they never explain what it`s all about, in the middle of the night, so why should anyone want to check in, stateside or abroad? Mentions WAS, maybe a clue. I search out its website, which tells all about it: http://www.hhhnet.net/ Yes, it issues WAS certificates; but don`t other clubs too? The member roster has 975 entries, including more and more Silent Keys, whose numbers have not been reassigned, but whose names and calls have been deleted, non memoriam! In chrono order, fewer and fewer new ones are added in last few years, two in `19, one in `18, three in `17, six in `16... Guess what: the only call I noted, W6WWV, is not on the roster. ARRL lookup: BATTERMAN, DENNIS E, W6WWV, Dundee, OR 97115. Is he honouring timesignals? Maybe he`s still working on WAS. And where does the HHH name come from? Not explained but looking thru the roster I find at least one -HHH, so is that the cause or effect? ``741. KA9HHH E Bob Schiff IL Chicago 08/18/00`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 11720, Tue Jan 28 at 2103, VG signal S8+20/30 from VOA Grimesland NC, during news, but dumps off air briefly at 2104, and again longer, not back on until 2106 when rock music already playing; 2110 only program name is ``VOA One, with DJ Larry London``, outro of Beyoncé and free-plugging her clotheslines. Yesterday Monday Jan 27 I also checked during the one hour that VOA ``Greenville`` puts such a super signal back into deep North America, when the show was `Soul Lounge`. So now I want to look up the subtitles at least of this VOA hour each day of week. Tnx to the WOR Hitlist, we go right to: https://www.voanews.com/listen/schedule/voa-africa date by date, but fails to show anything at 2100+ UT after News on the hour! Not `Soul Lounge` on Monday, not `Music Time in Africa` on Friday, both of which we know exist by our own ears. No Soul Lounge to be found here either: https://www.voanews.com/listen/programs but searching on name, get some archived, ``latest episodes`` of 2016-2015-2014 as part of `Music Alley with Shawna Renee`. Bottom line is that VOA scheduling is a mess; they don`t even know what they are airing. BTW, today was not the first time the 11720 transmitter crapped out (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15770, Jan 28 at 1551, WRMI is back on here with SMTV, VP signal, so 11580 yesterday was a one-day test, or error? No info on website about that. At 2025 I check UTwente, finding that 15770 is not making it there at all; 7780 is sufficient, and 11580 might be if it were on.
