Logs
** OKLAHOMA. May 10 at 1715 UT on caradio in garage, another FM check
compared to yesterday noon:

93.9, KIMY Watonga has now managed to modulate, as one of
thegospelstation.com acknowledging support from the Pollard Theater,
Guthrie, which I had assumed was a secular institution.

Website has a coverage map centred in OK but with outliers in TX, AR,
OH, TN. Tho singularly named, it`s axually a 17-station network:

88.3 South Central OK
88.3 Broken Bow, OK
88.3 Dibrell, TN
90.1 HD2 Edmond OK
91.5 Henryetta/South Tulsa OK
91.5 Wichita Falls, TX/Lawton, Duncan, OK
91.9 Granite/Altus OK
93.9 Watonga/Kingfisher/Weatherford, OK
99.7 HD4 Amarillo, TX
100.1 Chickasha, OK
101.5 Oklahoma City Metro
102.7 Paris, TX
103.9 Bartlesville, OK
104.7 Amarillo, TX
105.1 Ada, OK
106.9 Hillsboro, OH
107.3 Edmond/Guthrie, OK

Note the 90.1 HD2 Edmond, which means is sapping some of the power out
of KUCO, our classical station with a signal much weaker than
equivalent commercial OKC stations. But renting the HD2 to gospel
huxters helps pay their bills. You would never know there is such a
connexion by inspecting the KUCOFM.com website.

88.3, at 1717 UT May 10, dead air in stereo from the KJIL 99.1
translator in Enid, K202BY, at least for a few minutes; modulating
when next checked at 0226 UT May 11.

104.7, at 1718 UT May 10, dead air in mono with some CCI. Normal
fringe dominator is KQSN Ponca City, 25/25 kW. 1830 recheck now
driving, is on with slogan ``The Maul`` -- or Moll -- or Mall? They
all sound alike, but in db as ``The Bull``. Why name station for a
stupid animal? Could the DA have been a silent unID unfed nearby RF
feeder instead? Would expect one of those to be $ tereo (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, WOR)

** ROMANIA. From Wolfgang Buschel, more about missing RRI frequencies:
``Sender Țigănești TX1, -- missing transmitter function since April 1,
2021: ... is the 2nd attempt, after a wrong order with a wrong
component to repair attempt in 2021. 73 wb`` and forwards this from
someone in translation:

``Good afternoon, here is the promised answer to the question about
the reactivation of the Țigănești TX1 transmitter: A conversation with
RADIOCOM revealed that they were [awaiting] the delivery of a
capacitor from China. Delivery date would be June at the earliest.
Kind regards, Alexander`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, May 10 at 2252, VOT English is S9+10/20 into
Marylandm reciting entire English transmission schedule as always in
somewhat jumbled form, and with quite a hum; IS and cut off at 2255*
before can switch to bonus German. Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, May 10 at 0501-0506, UR1 via WRMI with
`Ukraine: Security Issue`, the fast-talker in English for May 9, Day
76 of the War, VG into Maryland SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2137 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday May 10 at 0037 the 0030 on WRMIs direct, 9395 & 9455 both
S9/+10 but somewhat lower modulation level on 9395.

Also confirmed Tuesday May 10 at 2230 on WRMI 9955: S6/9+10 direct
with no jamming audible; then at 2250 checking remotes to the SSE
where it`s allegedly aimed, little or nothing to Boa Vista or St
Lucia; nor even Knoxville to the NNW. But it`s S9/+10 to Maryland as
lite jamming becomes audible and builds toward 2300 for Radio
Libertad, since there is no liberty allowed in CUBA. The Other Side:

``Cuba touts itself as a 'medical powerhouse,' but many citizens have
to go abroad for treatment --- Most of them apply for humanitarian
visas to be treated in 'the belly of the monster'.
DDC Madrid 06 Mayo 2022 - 19:33 CEST``
https://diariodecuba.com/cuba/1651858422_39318.html

Next:
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035-USB or 3210-USB
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to WNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 9395 to NNW

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html

Thanks this week for financial support from Robert W Gruska, Glendale
NY, who sent a PMO to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, and
says: ``World of Radio has been one of the few programs available on
radio that I look forward to listening to week after week since first
listening to the broadcasts on WRNO back in the 1980s using a portable
multi-band radio that included shortwave. Thanks for your efforts!``

One may also contribute by check in US$ on a US bank to the PO Box.
BTW, rental cost for the PO Box itself keeps escalating.

Or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Doug Smith replies re contradictory info about KKFI 90.1
KC/MO which I DXed at some 300 miles/500 km:

``The 5.31 kW KKFI facility is a backup transmitter. If you look in
the FCC LMS records, the "service" is "FS" instead of "FM". There's an
old permit (superseded) for a different site but both that permit and
the actual site in use are east of I-435, well inside Missouri``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. RF 12, May 10 at 1450 UT, tropo up again much like yesterday
morning, lots of BAD VHF & UHF DTV signals, but only this decodes,
KSCW 33-1 Wichita but carrying Eyewitness News from KWCH ``12`` on 12,
which itself is really on RF 19 (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

Logs
** EGYPT. 9439.995, May 9 at 2150, R. Cairo in English, S9+30 into
UTwente but with extreme distortion and whine; was JBA checked a few
minutes earlier direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALDIVES [non]. 11620, May 9 at 1528 via S India SDR, Voice of
Martyrs Korea, S9/+20 but noisy, usual YL preaching in Dhivehi,
contrary to the only legal religion there, Sunni Islam; does she
aspire to martyrdom? Or is she safely in Korea South? 1529.7 switch to
bit of music and s/off in English. Carrier seems to overlap a bit but
to ear, transition to Vatican Arabic so smooth that one might be
fooled into assuming both from same site (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 93.9, May 9 at 1704 UT, strong mono signal of dead air
encountered in DX bandscan mainly concentrating on 93.7 KNOR TX. Still
dead at 1715, 1805 chex, presumably KIMY semi-local. They`ve done this
before, nobody paying attention. What will all the Watongans do
without their constant diet of gospel huxterism? Or, possibly a nearby
neighbor`s RF feeder left on perhaps in a parked car. Certainly not
one of mine. *Still* dead air at 2314 recheck.

101.3, May 9 at 1720 UT, two stations mixing, one with an Oklahoma
Army National Guard PSA/ad? Wichita normally dominant here, but
probably 100 kW KLAW, Lawton; also a 100 kW KMCO Wilburton; an LP in
Edmond, translator in Vinita. Some other Okies mixed in with USA, q.v.
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** ROMANIA. Stephen Luce replies May 7 on the WOR iog to my report
that RRI was missing from 7375 at 0300:

``Glenn, for Romania it would appear that one of the Tsiganeshti
transmitters for Radio Romania International has now been off the air
for over a year. I have not heard anything for the English broadcasts
on 9550 at 0000, or on 7375 at 0300 during the A-22 season, which was
the same situation during A-21. Meanwhile both 7420 and 9730 are
present for Romanian at 0000. During B-21 RRI had both scheduled
frequencies working for English at 0100, but was missing a transmitter
for Romanian at the same time.

There does not seen to be any sort of recent explanation for the
missing transmitter on the RRI website. Has to be a severe problem to
have gone on for so long. I too am getting good reception of RRI
English at 0300 on 9850. Three hours earlier, 7375 is fair but
improves during the hour as local sunset approaches. Stephen Luce,
Houston, Texas`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830.021, May 9 at 2222.5, VOT English, S9+50 with hum into
UTwente, starting `Feeling Supreme` -- something life segment, about
natural solutions for gastric pain. Would any other SW station be so
considerate? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, May 9 at 0500, UR1 via WRMI after quick ID
only, immediately into English `Ukraine: Security Issue`, YL reporter
who is best-spoken, war news lasting about 6.5 minutes. I think the UU
plug for the resistance website played after her, rather than before.
Usual VG signal into Maryland SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2137 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
May 8 at 2000.7 UT on 1323 kHz, IRRS via AM Italia, Villa Estense, S9
into nearby Noale SDR, but with much higher local noise level than
usual. Nothing on 918 or 207 kHz.

Also confirmed Sunday May 8 at 2230 on WRMI 5950, S7/9+15 into Georgia
SDR: still showing tho not on the program skedgrid for months.

Also confirmed UT Monday May 9 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9 but noisy into
Georgia SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday May 9 from 0304.5, on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160-,
into Georgia SDR, S7/S8 with ACI from 6165 Cuba. How much longer are
we having to put up with that, two stations from adjacent countries on
adjacent frequencies? Previous program of cacophony ran over. At 0315
I`m getting it better direct, S9/+20. Next:

0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to WNW
2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba]

Or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (7490.1v), Sunday May 8 at 2229, WBCQ webcast of `Uncle
Bill`s Melting Pot`, episode ending, and 2230 starting another!
Normally it`s one full hour at 22-23. UB has COVID so may be affecting
his broadcast scheduling. Yes: at 2259 outro as ``next week is St.
Patrick`s Day``! Such a combo would make the semi-repeat Monday at
2300-2330 only, less abruptly chopped off --- if it still exist, as I
previously heard him plug some other show during that slot, tho, of
course, not so shown on the never up-to-date WBCQ program skeds. COVID
also stymied his planned trip to Cuba this month. GWQ!

Monday May 9 at 2300 also on WBCQ webcast, I catch opening of the
secret semi-repeat which still exists, as Bill explains that he is
replaying his very first two half-hour episodes from March 2017! Of
course shows like this are evergreen (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4790, UT Monday May 9 from 0212 past 0219, WBCQ Radio Angela
with `Concert Hall` in an opera. I am checking again for uteblaap QRM,
and there it is, via Maryland SDR: watching the waterfall as well as
audibly, they now erupt exactly once a minute at about :00. Again
there are three alternating spots, on the minus, even, and plus side
of 4790: only one at a time rather than combining, and only the even
ones are audible due to receiving bandwidth; and not all of these are
very obvious vs the modulation and background noise level.
Interleaving, there is another cycle at about :42 seconds past the
minutes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. At wakeup 1343 UT May 9, turn on bedside YB-400 normally not
used for DXing but for RF feeder reception or localish listening: on
90.1 for KUCO OKC, but instead `Democracy Now` in progress --- which
means it is not either the usual #2 signal on 90.1, KHCC Hutchinson,
Radio Kansas. Maybe KERA Dallas if tropo from there up again? No, D.N.
website shows the nearest 90.1 is KKFI Kansas City MO! and the time
fits, 8-9 am CT. WTFDA says it`s only 5.31/5.31 kW, only 95 m HAAT,
community ``Free Range Radio``. Site is on the MO side, not KS per
radio-locator map, but which also says it`s 100 KW, 129m! -- more
likely. FCC says licensed for 100, but CP for 5.31: strange. Tropo
maps do show enhanced from here to Kansas City.

BTW, `Democracy Now` is on 1546 `stations` worldwide, but not on a
single Oklahoman other than obscure cable channels, natch, since there
is no democracy in OK! Plenty of outlets e.g. in neighboring NM, TX.

Next I`m on the DX-398, but still abed not ready for porch or car
DXing.

89.5, May 9 at 1357 UT, CSN Radio non-ID. Normally vacant channel here
but there are two Okies: KJCC, Carnegie, 23.5/23.5 kW; and translator
K208CG in OKC; but there are also two translators in KS: K208FE in
Topeka, and K208EK in closer Parsons. They all relay something from
Idaho.

91.9, May 9 at 1358 UT, ``SonLife Broadcasting Network``, the nearby
KBDD Winfield KS, boosted a bit as normally obscured by 91.7 KOSU +
HD.

91.7, May 9 at 1358 UT, KOSU is getting CCI which takes some doing; at
1400 sounds like KVOM? And EWTN network. DB gets no hits on 91.7 for
EWTN, but ETERNAL as slogan gets one: KSIF, Wellington TX, 2.0/2.0 kW,
124.0 m. Wellington is just next to SW corner of OK between Shamrock
and Childress, so is feasible. Looking thru complete USA list of
91.7s, nothing even fuzzily similar to KVOM.

93.5, May 9 at 1359 UT, ``Power 93.5`` traffic report concerning I-135
and I-235, i.e. KDGS Andover KS, tornado-hit Wichita suburb, 15/15 kW,
114 m. WTFDA shows only ``Power 93`` without the point 5. Also
mentioned KNSS, I guess a sibling station on 1330.

94.3, May 9 at 1404 UT, RDS: BOTT / RADIO / NETWORK, i.e. KCVW Kingman
KS, 100/100 kW, 253 m = the usual fringe with KLGB gone

87.75, May 9 at 1406, somesignal here with JBA talk; normally no
Franken FMs audible, KBSD Ensign/Dodge City KS still on RF channel 6
is non-Analog. Could also be receiver overload? No Frankens on
``87.7`` listed within likely range closer than Memphis or Denver. On
``87.9`` there is KBFW-LD Arlington TX, 300 watts of Spanish.

Gotta break for breakfast. At 1456 I check for DTVDX. Almost every
open channel has a BAD signal on it, and some of the `local` OKC
channels such as 33 have also been baddened by DX QRM.

RF 12, May 9 at 1456 UT is the only one decoding, 33-1 KSCW-DT
Wichita, but it`s carrying KWCH virtual 12 news before and after 1500,
maybe playback from sibling station, getting it back on true channel
12 while KWCH is really on RF 19. BTW, I had a bad signal there too;
normally no signal detected, blocked by KAUT OKC in ATSC 3.0, leading
the way! RF 12 finally fades to Bad by 1520.

From 1704 UT May 9, missing any ToH IDs, to the caradio for FM DX:

93.7, May 9 at 1704 UT, Mexican music totally overriding KSPI
Stillwater, much like May 7 during the ``noon`` hour. ``Don Cheto al
Aire``, a bit more music, then from 1707, all frenetic chat between
Chepo and YL sidekick/s. It`s so colloquial that I can hardly follow
it, but general topic seems about relationships. $ tereo, and music
continues playing JBA in background. References to CDMX and being
nervous about Popocatepetl make me wonder if it originate in the Aztec
Capital. But at 1727 surgery ad with a 661 AC phone number, which is
Bakersfield = Kern and parts of adjacent California counties. 1731,
plug Estrella TV on digital platforms --- never mind plain old TV,
like KMPX Decatur TX, RF 30, ``29``; and ``La Raza`` liner, so no
doubt it is again KNOR Krum TX in The Metroplex, market #5. 1734 my
lunch break until 1805 again missing ToH IDs, but still Mexmx on 93.7,
weakening. Uplooking later, KNOR is in fact owned by Estrella TV, a
third-rate network if that. Found this on website, not accounting for
the time I`m hearing Don Cheto:

https://estrellatv.com/donchetoalaire
``Don Cheto Al Aire 5:00am - 11:00am

As for ``La Raza`` branding, one cannot imagine a white or
black-ethnic station calling itself ``The Race``, but it`s perfectly
proudly OK for Latin@s?! who of course are not a race at all but
ethnicity.

Most FM channels are piles of CCI, but one more of interest, as it
tops occasionally:

104.9, May 9 at 1722 UT, South Asian music is outstanding, alternating
with other station(s) at 1729; 1730 divorce and dental ads in English
``for the South Asian community of north Texas``. Therefore from WTFDA
DB:

KZMP-FM 104.9 PILOT POINT TX HD ETHNIC FUNASIA, 35/35 kW, 535 m, Pilot
Point, Dallas, Fort Worth WWW.FUNASIA.COM

Guess what: that domain is for sale. Obviously related to 1540 AM KZMP
University Park which is now Spanish/ranchera. Pilot Point is a little
town about halfway between Denton and Gainesville, well north of The
Metroplex (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, May 9 at 0556 I`m QRX for R. Vanuatu carrier cutoff,
which I time at 0559.1. Retuning ASAP to next frequency, 11835 = 3 X
3945, it`s already on by 0559.3, sounds like starting in English but
more likely Bislama (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 12165-12225, May 9 at 0602, approx. range of a noise
peak, perhaps one of those ``experimental`` arbitrage transmitters
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
