Glenn Hauser logs May 14-15, 2022 |

Sunday, May 15 2022
** CHINA. 15800, 15760, 15360, May 15 at 1440, CNR1 jammers with bigsigs S7 to S9+10; Aoki shows all three are occupied only by Sound of Hope and jammers, all other stations prudently avoiding them at all hours. Also weaker but not synch, Chinese on 15110, which is CNR1 jamming against VOA Chinese via Philippines this hour only. At 1443 I find a couple more: 14980 JBA and 15920 S8/S9, also nothing but jammers and SOH per Aoki. 15 MHz is obviously the current OWF from East Asia (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 9650, May 15 at 0141, RHC Spanish S9/+20 undermodulated // 9535. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NETHERLANDS [non]. 9925, UT Sun May 15 at 0136, quick check of The Mighty KBC gets rock and Eric at S9+25/30 via EAST GERMANY, rivalling 9975 KVOH. Just another too much in the Saturday Night SW Music Glut (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6960 AM, May 15 at 0039, pirate S8/S9+5 vs high storm noise level -- HSNL, ``Games People Play`` and segué another song. 0109 YL ``Greatest hits of all time, Ball Smacker``, and tenpins SFX, now S9+15 between storm crashes. Off by 0147 check. Of the three simulpirates, this is #2 in overall quality. More: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,97162.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6930 USB, May 15 at 0101, S9+10 pirate with electric guitar; 0103 retune, DJ has spoken a bit and SSTV, 0104 music, ``Let`s Speak English, But Not My Salad[?]``, more electric guitar. 0127 SSTV is ending? then some more, 0128 music. 0148 SSTV? beepery sounds like looping past 0150 when DJ grunts, ``I Wanna Be a DJ`` song still playing until 0200 when there are some more noises unseeming SSTV, then off, or dead air as I am about to QRT. Of the three simulpirates, this is #1 in strength and quality. These say Wasteland Radio, did stop at 0200*, with noisy SSTV images: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,97163.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6920 USB, May 15 at 0102, third simulpirate and #3 in quality, S7 song vs HSNL; 0117 ``Time After Time``; 0122 off? No, was pause or fade. 0147 still on with weak music. WDOG, per: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,97164.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ROMANIA. 9730, UT Sun May 15 at 0139, classical `cello music, S9+15/30, 0140 applause and Romanian announcement. This is the 00-02 Galbeni to E NAm. Alan Roe`s Music on SW shows `Radio Concert Season` during the entire 01 hour, // 7420. More in the Saturday Night SW Music Glut; wish I could keep listening (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, May 15 at 0500 UT, UR1 via WRMI as I break away from the WBOB DX test to another SDR, Maryland. Not usual `Ukraine: Security Issue` war news review, but JIP originally live press conference about winning the Eurovision Song Contest. Mixture of English and Ukrainian, translations back and forth and rather frustrating when the English is interrupted. At 0508 ``Happy Birthday`` song in English; still gong past 0513 when I resume WBOB. At 0534 recheck, now `U:SI` is playing later in the hour than usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2138 monitoring: confirmed Saturday May 14 at 1930 on WRMI 15770, S9 into Maryland SDR. Also confirmed at 1930 on WRN webcast to N America. Also confirmed starting at 1931 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+5 steady into nearby SDR. Not confirmed UT Sunday May 15 at 0030 on WRMI 7780 --- rather last week`s 2137 playing. Oh2, probably my fault, missed uploading to System D server. Fortunately this the first? airing by that, so 2138 is now ready for UT Mon 0030 on 7780, and UT Thu 0130 on 5010 --- and as I check the skedgrid find a NEW airing on D, UT Friday 0330 on 7780. And another new one without notice, Tuesday 2330 on System G 9395 - an hour after System B on 9955, jammed by Cuba. Also confirmed UT Sunday May 15 at 0321 about 3 minutes into so started circa 0318 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+5 direct vs HSNL. Also confirmed Sunday May 15 ending at 1356 on WMRI via Channel 292, Germany, 9670, so must have started a bit early at 1327; and immediately into Russian. S5/S7 into NW Eire SDR. Next: 2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy 2230 UT Sunday WRMI 5950 to NNW [to be canceled? still May 8] 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW 0300vUT Monday WBCQ 6160v Area 51 to WSW 0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to WNW 2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba] 1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035-USB or 3210-USB 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to WNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 9395 to NNW Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html For these noncommercial services, voluntary financial support is much appreciated, by MO check in US$ on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 Or via PayPal not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5850, UT Sun May 15 at 0145, WRMI with `Encore` classical music, into Chinese opera, ``Liza Lim flies to the moon``, S9+15/40 atop HSNL. Due to all my pirate and other tuning this hour, I`m missing it! Must get next play UT Monday 0200 on 5950. 5850 has some hum unlike 5800, 5950. Now on 5950 is more music in the Saturday Night SW Music Glut, which I cannot possibly also audition, TRSW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 6159.9, May 15 at 0119, JBA carrier, must be WBCQ due to offset, but ailing very underpowered; vs S9+35/45 ACI de 6165 RHC. WBCQ refuses to deal with that clash (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 4790, May 15 at 0152, checking for uteblaaps but none heard direct, just S9 HSNL; *0155 WBCQ starts IS & ID loop buried in the noise for Radio Angela to follow. Uncle Bill tells us May 15: ``Over the next several days, WBCQ's Radio Angela will be migrating from 4790 kHz to a previous WBCQ frequency, 5130 kHz. WBCQ hopes to maintain the same coverage area with this move, perhaps even slightly greater in the US and Canada as west coast CODAR will no longer be a factor. During the week of May 16-22, listeners might want to check both frequencies during broadcast hours (typically 0200-04xx UTC). -Bill Tilford, Lafayette, Indiana`` Not mentioned are the uteblaaps, a last straw for 4790. I have advocated for getting off the 4-5 MHz band completely, especially in summer, as even without the QRM, the storm QRN level is intolerable; should move to a higher band, even 11 MHz, for greater coverage and less noise. This has been futile (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (5085), UT Sun May 15, WTWW-2 webcast despite scheduled from 0000, `Theatre Organ Under the Arch`, again no sign of it at these chex: 0015, 0037, rather hamstuff; nor direct on 5085: 0107 rock and ID from what used to be a cow pasture. O well, one less choice in the Saturday Evening SW Music Glut. 9940, BTW was not to be heard earlier in afternoon. `The Voice of Freedom` for Ukraine, seems quite irregular, at whim of Ted (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9975, UT Sun May 15 at 0132, KVOH inbooms VG at S9+30/40, wideband near hifi, with a bit of jazz, then Pat Conrad announcement during `Saturday Night Jazz Session` --- one more in the Music Glut. He`s going to play some Stephane Grappelli, Django Reinhardt and Coleman Hawkins, but first:: proselytizing quoting Hebrews, etc. 0134 finally music. He just ruined his own show, driving away rational listeners (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 600 kHz, UT Sun May 15 at 0414, S7 via Athens GA SDR, shared with Dene Lynneberg, NZ: WBOB Jaxonvil FL is DX-testing again, with some ABBA. 0417 says running 20 KW now, different than last night, asking for emails. 0418 Monkees, 0419 cutoff or fade - certainly weaker than when was 50 kW. CPC said this time WBOB would be running DX test noises, sweeps, Morse IDs, etc. I do hear sweeps upward thrice at 0421. We have heavy lightning/storming nearby in Garfield County but not right here altho some flashes have been visible overhead. Yet I try for WBOB direct on the E/W longwire into R75: At 0425 HSNL; 0427 slow sweep up? 0429 more definite upsweeps in the QRM & QRN, so I can say I did get WBOB direct. Never heard any Morse IDs; were they ever emitted? Those would be best for DX test definite logging. Back to Athens SDR: 0432 rock music with cutouts; 0435 dead air; 0435.6 music; 0440 outro as Elton John, ND 20 kW, now different than last night, asking reports; muses about the mystery of daytime skywave. Currently working on ground loop problem. 0443 sweeps up, 0444 song; 0447 different sweeps; 0500 Sinatra ``The End is Near``. I tune away for Ukraine, q.v. 0514 recheck, says WBOB is back to full power and will be on a few minutes longer, music, and I quit (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1130 kHz, May 15 at 0116 UT, dead air atop presumed still weak KWKH, i.e. KLEY Wellington KS in its newest open-carrier service. By 0202, KWKH has built up, but still vs KLEY carrier, making a fast SAH. Our latest sunset of c. 0152 will be attained in less than a month, early June. KLEY`s official SR/SS times in UT for May: 1115/0130 UT; June: 1115/0145. That won`t stop them from running the 250 watt day power all night instead of ONE watt, modulated or not (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR) ** U S A. Sent to Robert Conrad, Weekend Radio, WCLV Cleveland: ``Weekend Radio disappearing May 15 at 7:09 PM Bob, I have to inform you that your carriage list is VERY out of date: https://www.ideastream.org/programs/weekend-radio/carriage-list Look at that - still dated 2017!!! There are bound to be changes over a 5-year period, no matter what. Please have Carmelita or someone get it up to date. We missed our Saturday night chances on WCLV and KUCO, so were planning on getting it at noon CDT Sunday on WUOT which we have done before as a backup. But it`s gone. Not on their schedule anytime either, now This American Life. Surely affiliates are obliged at least as a courtesy to notify the program when it is canceled (or added). But this can hardly be relied upon, as I have found in keeping track of stations carrying my own program, and when. Another source would be great except it is not kept up to date either: First you are prompted to set up your preferred timezone: http://publicradiofan.com/cgibin/program.pl?programid=682 I have looked for other chances in the rest of Sunday and the only one I can find, still showing on own schedule, is KTXK Lubbock, 6 pm CDT -- (vs 60 Minutes on TV). I do NOT find W.R. on the current skeds of WBAA, WSND, WNMU, KVLU, KEDM! I have not investigated the other Saturday stations, as it`s too late to hear this week`s program there should they exist. It`s a shame that such a great show has been dropped by several stations. Hope you will keep on keeping on anyway. You might also consider availablizing it on demand, or podcast via WCLV site. Best wishes, Glenn Hauser, Enid OK`` (via Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, May 15 at 0615, NO signal from R. Vanuatu on 3 x 3945. I had been checking it every night but did not do so on May 14 when this was later reported, so our third-harmonic spree suspends: ```Radio Vanuatu seems to be out of the air today 14-05 --- Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain: VANUATU, Radio Vanuatu, Port Vila seems to be out of the air today. Not even carrier heard on 7260 at 0550 and not even carrier heard on 11835 from 0600. Also checked via SDR Kiwi remote receiver in New Zealand, no signal on 3945, 5040, 7260 and 11835`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 28438 USB, May 14 at 2148, weak ham; and then on 28465 USB, another calling CQ 10, but nothing heard on either next few minutes, fadeouts? I mention merely to remind that 10m even seeming dead can pass thru a few signals if sought. However, DXMAPS shows a great many N/S paths, TE contacts. These probably were from South America (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 1940 UT May 15 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, LRA36 is due for another Saturday broadcast from 1500, so I start tuning Brazilian SDRs at 1435 - nothing yet; but at 1452 I`m getting some modulation, best but only S3/S4 into Campo, while the other three in Brazil get little or nothing.
1500 promptly official sign-on, multilingual canned in Spanish, German, English, Russian and maybe one other. 1502 the Antartida song. 1505 some historical talk about Patagonia. 1511 contact info. 1512 I switch to the LU4 SDR in Argentina which is getting it a bit better, during song. 1518 talk about the Malvinas war, 1521 interview on phone about ham radio involvement there --- ah, the nostalgia! for April 1982. 1534 song, 1537 more about hams, but 1539* abruptly chopped off the air and no return by 1600 as I let it play. It seems this is their `normal` closing routine, maybe involuntarily. The repeats at 1800 Saturdays are supposed to start in June. But just in case, I recheck today at 1852: No. BTW, a May 7 article on https://www.facebook.com/Radiosdumonde/ about LRA36 claims, ``C'était la première et unique station officielle au monde située en Antarctique``. Presumably written by the FB site`s owner, tho never signed, Michel Frémy in Belgium. Nor does he attribute his sources, but that info is a BIG LIE, probably propagated by LRA36 and/or R Nacional in Argentina themselves. If it began in 1979 as claimed, another ``official`` Antarctic SW station had been going already for five years, from 1974, American Forces Antarctic Network, which many of us DXed on 6012 kHz --- and even before that on MW. And another contradixion about the FM frequency at Esperanza: 97.6, while WRTH shows 96.7. More likely correct is whichever the Antarcticans axually announce. That item also linx to a 3-minute 2021y audiovideo from Argentina about LRA36; all the garble caused by accents: good luck. https://www.facebook.com/Radiosdumonde/videos/la-radio-%C3%A0-40-sous-z%C3%A9ro-lra-36/722874645696585/ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ITALY [and non]. 7290, Sat May 14 at *1800.9, IRRS cut on via Bulgaria as always almost a minute late with `Feature Story News` JIP. Good into UTwente but must tune LSB to avoid RTTY warble. At 1831 during country music also on // 1323 AM Italia into Noale, but not on 918 or 207. Checking, since yesterday when WORLD OF RADIO should have aired Friday at 1815, 7290 was off and 1323 was fill music. BTW, next week, the latest possible third-Friday, May 20, is a scheduled preëmption of WOR from the 1815 slot only. I hope Eurarea WOR listeners are hearing me instead on WMRI via Channel 292, Sundays as early as 1324, nominal 1330, on 9670, if not WRMI or WBCQ or WRN or ---? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 95.1, May 14 at 1734 UT on caradio, surprised to hear the booming voice of the very late Paul Harvey, just concluding with ``Good Day?``. Immediately followed by a gospel huxter so this must be Bott, KQCV ``Shawnee`` which vies with KICT Wichita for control of 95.1. PH must have said something with religious over- or under-tones. Yet brings back fond memories of being a regular listener to his noontime commentaries, especially on Saturdays, despite his right-wing politix. Wonder if this be a reliable spot now. Altho he wound up in Chicago, he was an Okie, born in Tulsa *1918-2009* in Phœnix; on ABC air 1951-2008 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2138 monitoring: confirmed UT Saturday May 14 after 0130 on WRMI 9395, S9+10 vs HSNL. Also confirmed UT Saturday May 14 at 0400 on WBCQ Radio Angela, 4790, S6/S7 into Maryland SDR --- and yes, interrupted by those uteblaaps, appearing once a minute in two different interleaving cycles, per the waterfall some below, some right on, some above 4790, one at a time. Also confirmed Saturday May 14 at 1600 on WRN North America webcast. Next: 1930 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 to NE 1930vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to SW 0300vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0430] 1324vUT Sunday WMRI Europe via Ch 292 Germany 9670 2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? 9395, UT Sat May 14 at 0200, immediately following WORLD OF RADIO, show is `Cruisin the Decades` which claims to be on ``superpower WRMI``, and ``500 kW WBCQ``! Not unless it`s on the 9330 transmitter, which it is not. Outdated/incomplete blurb about it on WRMI programming page: ``Cruisin' The Decades Global Artwork.jpg --- "Cruisin' The Decades" is based on a love of music, and an appreciation for the history of popular music recordings. The show plays one song per decade (any song from any genre), from the 1910's, 1920's, 1930's, etc... right up to the 2020's. Hear over 100 years of recorded music history in the course of one hour. Hand-picked by Brad Savage in Akron, OH where the show originates on WAPS-FM "The Summit" (www.thesummit.FM)" Sundays at 5:00 pm Eastern Time (2200 [sic] UTC) on 9955 kHz and livestreamed at www.wrmi.net. S8 and dominant signal there. None of the usual Morse code, tones, etc., but real live human Jerry is broadcasting from the hard-to-reach-thru-the-mud transmitter site, playing some complete genuine vinyl record songs on a real turntable there! Says he can hear the difference compared to digital recordings. When mike is open says nevermind the background noise [as it`s not a studio]. 0438 contact to BOBTX@protonmail.com But mail has to be forwarded to him. 0442 acknowledges Martin Foltz in Sarasota. Says the test is to assess the skywave coverage of the 50 kW daytime transmitter. Later will switch to night pattern. He and two others are at the site, but five are needed, and expect to do it again tomorrow night = UT Sunday 0400-0700. With lightning overhead I QRT the computer at 0444 nor can I use the E/W longwire direct. I don`t expect to hear WBOB here, nor do I on the interior longwire nor on the DX-398 with heavy T-storm noise, and 600 anyway dominated by WMT aiming thisaway, and some others closer than Jax (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1130 kHz, May 14 at 1735-1745+ UT, KLEY Wellington KS, this Rocking M station in its second Dead Air Day (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1908 UT May 14 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** CHINA [non?]. 15555, May 13 at 2305, JBA AM with talk, music. Aoki shows besides WJHR USB until 2200, the only other 15555s are CNR1 jamming and RFA Chinese via SAIPAN, this hour only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6165, May 13 at 0616, RHC English here only, no other frequencies found on in 5, 6, 9, 11 or 13 MHz bands. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11880, May 13 at 2303, RHC English S9/+10 but just barely modulated. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GREECE [and non]. 9420.002, Fri May 13 at 1625, ERT with great Greek music and announcements, VG S9+25/35 into UTwente. If China is on too, totally overridden. But chopped off air abruptly at 1655* uncovering CNR and something else making a medium SAH. This is also playing a nice song which could be mistaken for Greek. Only scheduled now until 1805 is CNR13 in Uighur via Lingshi 725 site, which is between Beijing and Xi`an. On its curtailed 1230-1700v UT schedule weekdays only, we can no longer hear VOG well direct in our evenings. Is on borrowed? time until another possible termination at Mayend (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MALDIVES [non]. 11620, May 13 at 1529, V of Martyrs Korea, Maldives service in Dhivehi, runs a bit late so s/off in English not until 1530.0, overlapping Vatican in Arabic until about 1530.4. Into S India SDR, was S9+10/20 from secret site, then VR weaker at S7/S9 and noisy. ``Dhivehi is an Indo-Aryan language derived from the Sinhalese language of Sri Lanka. Despite the countries' close proximity to one another, Maldivians and Sri Lankans do not always understand each other.`` - Wikipedia? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, May 13 at 0500-0507, UR1 via WRMI, immediately into `Ukraine: Security Issue` in English with the well-spoken YL -- but marred by too much Ukrainian clips to voice over, or at times, under. VG into Maryland SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2138 monitoring: confirmed Friday May 13 at 1430 on WRMI 9955, S9 with deep fades to S3 direct, no jamming audible. NOT confirmed Friday May 13 at 1815 on IRRS 7290, nor AM Italia 1323. Tuned in earlier at 1754, no signal on 7290 from Bulgaria into UTwente, and instead of *1800.9, it never came on! 1323 tuned in at 1806 just as synthyl ID in English as on 207, 918 and 1323 kHz - more info from info@am-italia.it and ``Have a good listening``. Then music fill, no Feature Story News or UN News as usual. Guess what, it is not on 207 or 918 now either into nearby Noale SDR, only 1323. But no WOR here either at 1815.5. Same canned ID repeated amid music loops at 1817, 1828, 1840. This operation is *so* uncoördinated. Next airing of WOR 2138 however succeeds, on 1323 checked at 2056 and presumably from 2030, S9+13 steady, still no 918 or 207. I also check 1323 into UTwente where it`s JBA with CCI. Re 9455, WRMI: ``Glenn, the WRMI spurspikes below 9455 have been going on for at least a couple of weeks. I can hear them well up to 150 kHz below fundamental when reception is good. One night they pretty much ruined otherwise decent reception of BBCWS via SMG at 0500 on 9410. Stephen Luce, Houston, Texas`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1130 kHz, May 13 at 1910-1920+ UT on caradio, dead air from KLEY Wellington KS. Had been holding up whenever occasionally checked since resuming mod Feb 20 after a long DA spell. 250 watt daytime, 1 watt, sure, nighttime. Need to check whether it again be on at night vs 50 kW KWKH, DA or not (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0113 UT May 14 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
