Sunday, April 12 2020
Fixing a couple of minor 1-or-2 letter typos:
** CUBA. 13700 // 13780, April 12 at 1343, last half of RHC `En Contacto`, acknowledging reception report for 11840! That frequency was replaced last year by 11850, demoting 11840 to only that minus 10 kHz JBA spur, so was it what they really heard?! . . .
18145-USB, April 12 at 1852, among a few other phone sigs on band, Oz? accent, says he is ex-RAF, worked in Saudi Arabia as civilian, VE7UHS. DX Map unshows any Es MUF over this path, Rob Hatch in West Kelowna BC, with lots of photos: https://www.qrz.com/lookup/ve7uhs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs April 11-12, 2020 |
|
Sunday, April 12 2020
** CUBA. 11830-11855 & 11908-11955 approx., April 11 at 1454, expanse of jamsplat if not full pulse jamming. Tuning upwards I at first think it`s centred about 11845, a long-gone Radio Martí frequency. But there is full jamming against current RM on 11860 and more splat on its plus side, obscured by 11880 CRI relay. And another range certainly coming out of the other RM jammed channel, 11930. In their zeal to suppress any dissent, the Cuban Commies don`t give a damn about what collateral damage it may cause, even to their own other broadcasts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 15370, April 11 at 2016, RHC French at S9/+10 but distorted with hum; while in a switch, // 15140 has OK modulation at S9+20. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5025, April 12 at 0013, Radio Rebelde back on air at S9+25 after missing last night, and now with OK modulation; but for how long? Something must be wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11850, April 12 at 0457-0502*, dead air averaging S9 and the SSOB. Got to be RHC; also much weaker 11700 with JBA Spanish goes off about same time. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13700 // 13780, April 12 at 1343, last half of EHC `En Contacto`, acknowledging reception report for 11840! That frequency was replaced last year by 11850, demoting 11840 to only that minus 10 kHz JBA spur, so was it what they really heard?! Or is this another oldshow rerun? On to Pedro Sedano`s monthly report from AER in Spain with the current sked for WWCR Spanish, L-V 21-22 on 15825. He always laboriously spells out postal addresses of stations which are anything but Spanish, including H-A-S-H-V-I-L-L-E [sic]! I think he also blew the ``1300`` but will have to listen again. Then the Spanish skeds for safely Commie stations VOK and VOV, with their addresses. Final segment back to Arnie at home via marvelous fibre-optic line for propagation, but all he does is somehow connect the pandemic with 900-km DX between E & W Cuba on 2 meters --- tropo or Es? This week`s hostess seems named Maya Quiroz. Of course, any announcer can handle it, since Arnie writes the whole script, including third-person references to himself. Also filled some time with vintage Radio Rebelde clips. 6000, April 12 at 1343, presumed RHC carrier still on here, JBM, before I ascend to 13 MHz for En Contacto. 13620, April 12 at 1350, leapfrog mixing product of RHC 13780 over 13700 another 80 kHz lower, this time with enough // modulation to make it certain. Reverse leap on 13860 is however a JBA carrier. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 15140, April 12 at 1558, JBA carrier means RHC must be off instead of continuous, uncovering OMAN. 11760 RHC is still running for midday. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NEW ZEALAND. 11725, April 12 at 0502, NO signal from RNZI tho scheduled here daily 0459-0658; nor other nights. If really still on there, zero propagation where it used to be a standout, SSOB by far on 25m, in fact its best frequency of all (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6925-USB, April 12 at 0010, S9 of rap music. These logs say it`s Texas Radio Shortwave on an Easter theme until 0030: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,65462.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SAUDI ARABIA. 15205.060, April 12 at 1600, S8-S9 in Arabic, not // 15435v, not measured. These fit for B-19 schedule from SBC, Qur`an and General services respectively (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2029 monitoring: Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria: ``Reception of World of Radio#2029 via WRMI-09 Okeechobee, April 11: https://swldxbulgaria.blogspot.com/2020/04/reception-of-world-of-radio2029-via.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tC3Y9FhuqJk&feature=youtu.be 1300-1330 on 15770 RMI 100 kW / 044 deg to WeEu English Sat, weak`` Also confirmed UT Sunday April 12 starting at 0313 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, Wentzville MO during the Gateway 160 Meter Radio Newsletter; tried via different KiwiSDRs nearby in IL, KY, none in MO; and got best results from Edinburgh, Indiana. Next: 0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE [presumably still not 9395] 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE 0300vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW [or 6160v?] 0330 UT Monday WRMI 9955 to SSE 0900 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 32100-USB or 5045-USB 1800vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? to WNW 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Thanks this week for financial support from Doug Brown of London, Ontario and Seminole, Florida who sent a US$ cheque to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 6159.91, April 12 at 0009, WBCQ at S9/+20 with music, yet rough copy in noise level. Last-minute notice came from Larry Will that due to maintenance, Area 51 would be on 6160 instead of 5130 Saturday night from 2300. Unknown yet whether that will still apply for the Sunday night span, including WORLD OF RADIO at 0300v UT Monday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7570, Sat April 11 at 1534, survey of all WRMI frequencies, 10! of which are scheduled for Brother HyStairical`s live Sabbath service --- any social distancing in the tabernacle? --- finds no signal on this one but TOMBS or at least a carrier on 5800, 5850, 5950, 7730, 7780, 9395, 9455, 9955; 5010 also listed but not checked. Only 15770 is on with something else, SMTV (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, April 12 at 0012, WTWW-2 tune-in finds TONITO already running earlier than usual, S9+30/40 somewhat distorted organ music and I`m not near the computer for the $ tereo webcast. Applause between selexions, and considerable hum, background noise during pauses, but doesn`t sound like air compressor. 0030 during final piece other extraneous noises, animal? 0032 outro as again a performance by guest Len; 0033 finished, into a Morse CQ as hamstuff resumes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 3215, April 12 at 0019, gospel huxter on presumed WWRB before 3215 switch to WWCR at 0100. On air weekends only, but in A-season normally ascends to 5050. Not yet, so when? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 18143-USB, April 12 at 1847, KW6J/7 contact with someone in Waukesha WI, unheard. We have sporadic E opening from AZ per DX MAP showing MUF of 30 MHz over NM in between (but nothing heard on 21 MHz band except JBA carrier from 21525 WRMI). QRZ.com: ``KW6J/7, BRIAN C STAPLETON, 642 RAMONA DR, CORONA DEL MAR CA 92625`` But I think he`s in AZ now, says he goes back and forth to CA. 18131-USB, April 12 at 1851, another OM in Phœnix judging from local refs, inviting check-ins to YL-System net or something like that. But neglecting to sign his own call. 18145-USB, April 12 at 1852, among a few other phone sigs on band, Oz? accent, says he is ex-RAF, worked in Saudi Arabia as civilian, VE7UHS. DX Map unshows any Es UHF over this path, Rob Hatch in West Kelowna BC, with lots of photos: https://www.qrz.com/lookup/ve7uhs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 11895, April 12 at 0503, after 11850 & 11700 CUBA go off, this is the OSOB, S8-S9 and JBM? Aoki shows CRI English via Kashgar, EAST TURKISTAN, land of imprisoning and brainwashing native Uyghurs; but also RFA Chinese via SAIPAN which of course requires additional CNR1 jamming; still there at 0602 sounds like Chinese, so likely the latter. If really Saipan, could be noticeably off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) 75, Glenn This report dispatched at 1947 UT April 12

Glenn Hauser logs April 10-11, 2020 |

Saturday, April 11 2020
** ARGENTINA [non]. 9395, Friday April 10 at 2100, the nominal ``Italian`` hour of RAE relay via WRMI starts in Spanish by host Fernando Farías, 2102 into the voz of Arnaldo Slaen with abbr`d Actualidad DX, about IRRS War Room Pandemic show, Honduran FM station, Radio Cuarentena. 2110 into French introduced as the second of their multi-lingual shows from homes; very much like if not identical to what I was hearing last night, April 10 at 0100 on 9395. I am afraid that listeners abroad may not appreciate the baggage and credibility issues Steve Bannon drags with him into WRP, one who bears considerable responsibility for the presence of the ignorant, incompetent, forever-impeached acting president Drumpf (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 5025, April 10 at 0553, R. Rebelde is S9+20/30 but JBM/suptorted. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba; 5040 RHC in English at same signal level and with usual squealy defective modulation but readable. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 5025, April 11 at 0217 check, now it`s off, let us hope for much-needed repairs; while 4765 R. Progreso and 5040 RHC remain on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUATEMALA. 4055, April 11 at 0218 check, R. Verdad is off; despite local noise level of S9+20, I should be able to detect at least a carrier. A ``Good`` Friday thing? The perennial question: should pious broadcasters transmit more, or less, upon holy days? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6931-USB, April 10 at 2323, pirate music S7-S8, 2326 W&M folksong with guitar; 2330 DJ maybe ID but caught only ``all-natural radio``, more music to close; 2342 another announcement, being heard in northern New England; long reverb repeats every few words. 2344, ``Yeti Radio signing off``, another song, still going until 2350*. Oops, just a break, soon back on. More logs here: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,65375.0.html I thought I heard some John Prine, as did others; End of log above for Free Radio Weekly with 0000 UT deadline nigh. But this station really keeps going: 2357, mentions Walmart, cut off for music. April 11: 0009 announcement; 0023 WALMART plug as others have noted; 0041 still going but frequent cut-outs. Without a carrier we keep getting faked out that they`ve pulled the plug. 0110 ``gonna keep goin` for a helluva long time``, ``Here Comes the Sun`` song to 0121* apparently final stop (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6880-USB, April 10 at 2324, another pirate with music at S5-S6. Many more logs here again as Radio 48: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,65371.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SAUDI ARABIA. 15434.985, April 10 at 1518, poor signal in Arabic; also seems to be a weaker carrier low-hetting closer to 15435.000, but nothing else is scheduled. Not even KSA is in HFCC of course, but Aoki/NDXC shows it at 1450-1700-1800 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, April 10 at 2229, with the Bogotá SDR still running after monitoring WOR on 9955, I check whether VOT makes it to air today: yes, poor signal there, but to my surprise it`s the IS and ID in English, 2230 timesignal and sign-on --- 30 minutes late! A new something-erroneous at Emirler, unless they have without notice and inexplicably decided to retime the eastern North American service. After a few minutes of news, now monitoring direct a bit better, back to Turkish music fill, except at 2252 a brief spot with the also-American advice about coping with COVID-19, and back to more music until cut off the air right at 2300* when presumably only slightly more than half of today`s broadcast has radiated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2029 monitoring: confirmed first American SWBC, Friday April 10 at 2200 on WRMI 9955, VG via Bogotá SDR with no jamming audible. Since there were some problems with podcasts, I monitor the whole thing to be sure it`s totally intact; it is. Also confirmed starting at 0130 UT Sat Apr 11 and ending at 0159 on all three WRMIs: 5010 VP, 5850 VG, 7780 JBA with erratic uteblasts on the plus side. Next: 0900 UT Saturday Unique Radio NSW 3210-USB or 5045-USB 1130 UT Saturday WRMI 9955 to SSE 1300 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 to NE 1930vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0300vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315] 0900 UT Sunday Unique Radio NSW 3210-USB or 5045-USB 0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE 0300vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW 0330 UT Monday WRMI 9955 to SSE 0900 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 32100-USB or 5045-USB 1800vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? to WNW 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Thanks this week for financial support from Doug Brown of London, Ontario and Seminole, Florida who sent a US$ cheque to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (7490.1v), UT Sat Apr 11, tune-in WBCQ webcast with `Allan & Angela Weiner WorldWide` in progress, as the couple are axually arguing about some issue to do with COVID-19. At 0021 the 7490 webcast goes silent but keeps running connected. So I switch to (5130) Area 51 webcast and hear them still going a little longer, until it too stops, then several starts and stops; 0024 music fill as the outage is upline, like between FL and MD or ME. Then 7490 webcast is back while 5130 in music. Maybe they eventually got back together. Dipping in and out, seems to be same CV19 topic until last few minutes when he gets into his repair super-power searchlights including virus-killing UV; they were once used at Cape Canaveral to light up night launches. Still not hearing from our regular monitor of AAAWWW, John Carver in mid-north Indiana; hope it`s only continued computer problems and he can get a message to us that he`s OK. Meanwhile, mark your calendar for May 5, per this from A & A April 9: ``Hi Glenn, Radio has been a beacon of hope and a way to spread good feelings in bad times for over a century. In that spirit, WBCQ The Planet will present WBCQ's Big Broadcast of 2020 as a special simulcast on 5130 and 7490 on Tuesday, May 5 from 2200 to 2300 UTC [presumably meaning 21-22 UT] (5pm-6pm EDT in the US). This special broadcast will feature the presenters and music of some of WBCQ's most innovative music offerings including Marion's Attic, Uncle Bill's Melting Pot, From the Isle of Music, Behavior Night and the Lost Discs Radio Show. This is a chance to escape that COVID-19 gloom for an hour and maybe discover a new favorite program in the bargain. Hope you are well and safe, Allan & Angela`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, April 10 at 0552, WTWW-2 is so weak at only S9/+10 that I can`t hear the spurs on 5072.1 and 5097.9! Since neighbor 4840 WWCR is just as weak, we know the MUF has dropped out, a propagation problem. The 5830 & 5935 pair are similar at JBA level. 18 hours later, 5085 is already on and almost up to usual strength with spurs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 87.9 FM, a church in Detroit is transmitting services to cars, per a tip from TRMS: https://www.freep.com/story/life/2020/04/06/metro-detroit-churches-drive-in-coronavirus-pandemic/5100571002/ I haven`t heard it of course, but serves as a reminder to look for more of these especially over Holy-Day weekend; others might be on AM or even CB. Michigan is already full of 87.9 pirates, judging from Harold Frodge`s logs around Midland (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0409 UT April 11

** ARGENTINA [non]. 9395, April 10 at 0105, RAE via WRMI with Spanish in progress instead of English; generic comments by Fernando Farías about the quarantine situation with regular programming unavailable.
0111 switches to French, soon devoting its time to summary of DX info: IRRS with schedule of Bannon`s Pandemic show; Catholic station at Gracias a Dios, Honduras; Radio Cuarentena; letter from a francophone DX club. 0119 back to Fernando who also does the English segment, from home. This is the second, apparently once-a-week pandemic program featuring all the RAE language services. How April 2 is a significant date, anniversary of the Malvinas War in 1982y; shortened edition of the normally-Friday 7-10 minute DX Actuality feature: again about War Room Pandemic, sked via IRRS; Honduras station. President has extended lockdown in Argentina to April 13. 0127 outro in Spanish gives names of announcers in all 8 languages as if we have just heard them all, ``Made en/in Casa`` on RAE/Argentina al Mundo: Italian, Portuguese, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, English, in that order --- but we`ve heard only three of them this semihour and I don`t think it started at 0030 tho I was not listening then, rather to pirates. 0130 WRMI Spanish ID by Dino and into Radio Prague International in English. No other WRMI frequencies checked tonight except 5800 just after 0100 when it sounded again like Radio Taiwán Internacional (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, April 9 at 1403, RHC is S9+20 but extremely distorted. 15230 and 13700 are OK, VG, no spurs; after 1900 in English, 15140 is relatively clean today, different transmitter? 11760, April 9 at 1413, RHC is S9-S7 of dead air. Somethings` always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6953-USB, April 9 at 2324, pirate music at S3-S5; 2329 two announcers talking vs high storm noise level from south of San Antonio and the southern half of Louisiana. ``Virus-19 Radio``, maybe back tomorrow, maybe not. Radio conditions pretty damn good tonight, getting up into New England. ``Good night, stay well``, playing out on ``When I Die`` by Blood, Sweat & Tears until off at 2336*. More logs here with variations on ID with Zeke as host: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,65317.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6880-USB, April 9 at 2326, S4-S6 soul music, 2328 announcement but too much reverb, etc., to copy; blues music. 2337 jive music with some cut-outs, YL ID at first sounds like ``Four AM Radio`` with hotmail address like that; Mix Radio International ID, jazz piano; 2342 ID I then realize is ``Cool AM Radio``. More logs: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,65319.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6916-USB, April 10 at 0044, S9 of wild rock, lots of yelling over the music as if a `live` event rather than any studio announcements. Past 0100 when I switch to 9395 for Argentina. 0131 recheck still going with more of same hard rock. These say it`s Radio 48 via MRI, having started on 6880-USB but moved to 6916 at 0028: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,65322.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 341-MCW kHz, April 9 at 0613 UT, ND beacon OIN, which is 25 watts from Oberlin, Kansas; as EI Enid is still gone, but there are loads of others on 341 I would like to hear (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5214-USB, April 10 at 0139, MARS? net mostly with abbr`d calls, such as 8AM, 8HQ; one full call starting with AAR---; at 0141, M8A in contact with 8HS, fonetikaly, declaring ``the net is free``. Next few minutes occasional calls are ``closing stations``. Most signals weak, a few good (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. ** AUSTRIA. John Figliozzi replies on the WOR iog to my 6155 log: ``OK, it’s not on HF and it’s not classical music… but those looking for English language news from Austria will find plenty of it on the bilingual (German/English) ORF domestic youth network fm4 streamed over the Internet from: https://fm4.orf.at John Figliozzi`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 13650, April 8 at 2329, CRI relay `Portuguese` service of music only is S9+20/30 but extremely suptorted. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba. Why in the world haven`t they just turned off this failed service months ago? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. 6185-, April 8 by 1907 UT, now I can pull a JBA carrier slightly off-frequency-minus as a 2-megameter day-path remnant of reactivated XEPPM (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 27186, April 8 at 1910 and still 2243 recheck, some lokel yokel is jamming the prime CB frequency with continuous S9+10 buzz. Well, there are plenty of other channels, all with zero activity (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, April 8 at 2244, JBA signal presumed VOT active today. Wonder if something else be erroneous at Emirler, like reduced power, reception has been so poor lately even when on. 7275, April 9 at 0258, VOT IS & English IDs, fair via Alexandria SDR, but undermodulated with some hum; timesignal one second late but may have been internet delay. This time YL instead of usual OM announcer, opening without full wrong English schedule but only ``this`` is the 1230 on 15450! plus satellite info; something`s always awry at Ankara; into news of topic-V; 0307 enough already, into Turkish song. At least no QRhaM to be heard (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2028 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday April 8 at 2100:20 on WBCQ 7490.1v, fair via Alexandria SDR. Also confirmed UT Thu April 9 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, JBA in storm noise level from along the Ohio Valley; good via Alexandria VA SDR; and not via UTwente, now with this bad news in red: ``On April 8, the antenna seems to have developed a defect, so only very few signals are still detectable. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, university buildings are closed, so it is currently unclear if and when a repair can be attempted.`` WOR 2029 should be ready by early UT Fri April 10 and first American SWBC at 2200 on WRMI 9955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5970, April 8 at 2327, S9+10 of dead air; must be WEWN on early from second Spanish transmitter not scheduled to start until 0000; first one is still on 12050, VP with music. BTW, HFCC shows they also employ two different antennas, a 206 and a 218 respectively at 5 degrees difference in azimuth, and both 500 kW transmitters run at only 100. I wonder if they are still operable if desired or affordable at 500? IIRC they used to be registered as 350 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0315 UT April 9
