Hauser
** CUBA. 13700, Sat Dec 21 at 1614, RHC still on here past usual
closing, but no spurs; then found also on 15230, 15140, 11760, 9535,
7340; seems to be a speech from an echoey venue, so maybe a special
event. Something`s always wrong(?) at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Dec 20 at 2350, stronger carrier than usual from R.
Chaski under wall-of-noise Cuban jamming against nothing else. From
2353 I am watching my watch to time the exact second of autocutoff now
expected before 2355 --- but it keeps on going!!

I`ve had enough by 0007 Dec 21, but recheck at 0020 and stillstill on;
there had been numerous deep choppy fades, false-stops. Could it be
something else? Possibly, but not two carriers, so I suspect Chaski is
just staying on later for the holidays, rather than having reset the
timer closer to nominal 2400*. Note: ``closer`` may be pronounced
either way (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 13565-CW, Dec 21 at 1612, K6FRC HIFER beacon is JBA,
somewhat later than usual here, but never in the afternoon or evening
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2013 monitoring: confirmed first N
American SWBC, Friday December 20 starting at 2300:37.5 on WRMI 9955,
initially below the Cuban jamming; for some reason starting late,
after full WNYW-style ID, but apparently not upcut; ends almost
exactly 29 minutes later at 2324:37 by when signal is good and
unjammed. In fact, clear by 2306 and generally good for the rest altho
some deep fades after 2310.

Missed checking next airings UT Sat Dec 21 at 0130 on WRMIs 5010,
5850, 7780, as I was engrossed in Paul Winter Consort Solstice Live
concert streamed. Also missed checking Sat 1300 on WRMI 15770,
sleeptime as usual. Did anyone hear them? Next:

2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM

(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9955, Dec 20 at 1910, this WRMI is still on with music,
unusually filling the 15-22 UT break; but Dec 21 at 1618 check it`s
off again. WRMI skedgrid http://www.tinyurl.com/WRMIfqs now shows 9955
& 5800 have swapped transmitters, #3 on 9955, #10 on 5800, both still
160-degree antennas, with 9955 still limited to 1100-1600 & 2130-0500
max. Also: 15770 no longer running pointlessly all-night with TOMBS,
off the air from 23 until 12.

7780, Dec 21 at 1620, WRMI is VP in German with mandatory music bed,
i.e. RAE relay even tho it`s Saturday. At 1717 I get around to
checking it on UTwente, to find zero signal, so surely neither an hour
earlier despite aimage at Germany across the dayside.

5800, Dec 20 at 2235, WRMI still resumed here with SMTV, good,
presumably for entire 21-02 UT span including RAE after 01; after
experiment on 9425. Latest info from Ivo Ivanov implies 9425 be still
in use (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Due to the live webcast of the Paul Winter Consort Solstice
concert, I miss checking AAAWWW on WBCQ this week, UT Sat Dec 21
starting at 0000, but our reliable monitor John H Carver, Jr reports:

``Tonight's show started a few seconds late on 5130. 7490 is there
this evening but terribly noisy. Opening talk of Christmas and the
weather. Allan read the Wikipedia definition of Christmas and the
talk, while turning a bit political, continued for over forty minutes
until a phone call from Pirate Joe at 0143.

Reading of emails at 0152. The automation problem noted the last three
weeks has still not been corrected so at 0154 the program was
interrupted by nonstop station IDs till the top of the hour. 5130
continued on at 0200 with a poetry show. John, Mid-North Indiana``

Wonder if he previewed any special holiday programming, which is often
the only way to know about it? Maybe this AAAWWW will repeat UT Sun
0100 on 7490v as often happens into this `available time slot` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. I was planning on hearing this year`s broadcast of Paul
Winter Consort Solstice from the Cathedral of St John the [allegedly]
Divine in NYC, as scheduled from 0300 UT Sat Dec 21 on WUOT webcast,
or 0400 on KGOU webcast; but earlier in evening sought out website:
https://solsticeconcert.com/wintersolstice/#venue
to find that a *live* stereo audio+video stream was now available on
Youtube linked from that site, starting at 0030 UT. I missed only the
first six minutes and stayed with it until the end 3 hours later,
including a 15-20 minute intermission after 0200. First time I have
been able to see as well as hear it. This was the 40th annual
performance, axually thrice on Thu/Fri/Sat evenings in NYC, so the
next and last one UT Sunday from 0030 should also be audiovisible,
axually closer to the real Solstice, which will be at 0419 UT Dec 22.

The radio broadcasts are *not* the current year`s performance! They
are condensed to only two hours, with commentary added. It would have
had to be a very quick job to produce the Thursday night performance
for broadcast thus the next night. So instead they play one from last
year? NO, one of the stations labeled it as the 38th annual
performance, without admitting that would have been from two years
ago, but hearing it, was announced as the 37th --- from three years
ago! ALL of them are certainly worth hearing even more than once, and
of course evergreens such as ``Icarus`` are always played within.

This live event also caused me to miss monitoring both AAAWWW on WBCQ
at 0100, and WOR on WRMIs at 0130, qq.vv. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 223 kHz, Dec 20 at 0742 UT, dash and ND beacon YYW, which
is 1000 watts at Armstrong, Ontario.

245 kHz, Dec 20 at 0744 UT, dash and NDB YZE, 1000 watts at Gore Bay,
Ontario. Where`s that?

``Gore Bay is a town on Manitoulin Island in Ontario, Canada. Located
on Gore Bay, a bay of Lake Huron's North Channel, it is one of the two
incorporated towns of Manitoulin District, of which it is the
administrative and government seat. The town's name is believed to be
referencing to the gore-shaped harbour. Wikipedia``

What`s a gore-shaped harbour?

``A gore is a sector of a curved surface [1] or the curved surface
that lies between two close lines of longitude on a globe and may be
flattened to a plane surface with little distortion. [2] The term has
been extended to include similarly shaped pieces such as the panels of
a hot-air balloon or parachute, [3] or the triangular insert that
allows extra movement in a garment. [4]`` Wikipedia

258 kHz, Dec 20 at 0745 UT, dash and NDB ZSJ, 1000 watts at Sandy
Lake, Ontario. Did they run out of Y`s? The only beacon on 258 kHz,
per dxinfocentre.com --- where`s that? ``Sandy Lake First Nation is an
independent Oji-Cree First Nations band government. The First Nations
community, in the west part of Northern Ontario, is located in the
Kenora District, 227 km northeast of Red Lake, Ontario. Its registered
population in June 2007 was 2,474. Wikipedia``

260 kHz, Dec 20 at 0748 UT, dash and NDB YAT, 1000 watts at
Attawapiskat, Ontario; where`s that?

The Attawapiskat First Nation is an isolated First Nation located in
Kenora District in northern Ontario, Canada, at the mouth of the
Attawapiskat River on James Bay. Wikipedia

Wishing for a summer with clean water in Attawapiskat --- Ontario
First Nation's residents have faced an endless crisis since signing

272 kHz, Dec 20 at 0749, dash and YQA, 400 watt NDB at Muskoka Falls,
Ontario, ``TO BE DECOMMISSIONED 2020-03-26``. Where`s that? ``Muskoka
Falls is a village southeast of Bracebridge just a couple of minutes
east off Highway 11.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13632 & 13768, Dec 20 at 1525, S7-S8 spurblobs from 13700
RHC, mush in SSB mode, more readable in AM than FM mode, the latter
adding the F# tone. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 245 kHz, Dec 20 at 0742 UT, ND beacon FS, 400 watts at Sioux
Falls - Rock SD. Mixing with YZE CANADA q.v., same frequency but very
different pitch (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9955, Fri Dec 20 at 1616, surprised to hear song here,
undermodulated compared to 9395 & 9455 which are supposed to be on
all-day with TOMBS, but 9955 stopping at 1500 weekdays; 1619 ``music
memories and so much more`` WRMI ID by BB. Recheck at 1757, 9955 still
on with music, weaker than the others. WRMI skedgrid still shows 9955
off at 1500-2200, but has Jeff decided to run it all day too,
prolonging the Oldies?

As for 9425 test, still no show, but XMTR 3 at 2100-2400 has been
corrected to 5800 instead of 6060, and also 0000-0200. And latest
item on WRMI FB: ``WRMI Radio Miami International 16 hrs · Testing
5800 kHz now from 2100-0200 UTC 19/20 December.``

7780 also heard Fri Dec 20 at 1620 in German, i.e. RAE at this strange
time hardly suitable for Europe (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 1110 kHz, Dec 20 at 1456 UT, RCC call-in show hosted by
Patrick, inquiry about angels from Gilbert AZ; soon wrapping up but
Hour 3 to follow; fades for TOH ID, but Houston FM and Relevant Radio
mentioned, then brief NBC News, 1504 fading out. Has been looping
approx. NW/SE inhabiting null of KFAB Omaha with SAH of 1 Hz or less.
I would have expected 50 kW daytimer in The Metroplex, KVTT but its
format is Asian --- not a trace of it, halfway to Houston! Off the
air?

This is KTEK, CoL Alvin TX, on the Relevant roster at
https://relevantradio.com/listen/stations/
with two different maps and lists: O&O; and affiliates. Clearly, they
are Irrelevant in Oklahoma. Current program was the ``Patrick Madrid
Show``. KTEK is 2.5 kW direxional daytimer, aimed thisaway; while KVTT
much closer and stronger has unfavorable pattern close to nulling us
but has been heard before. Should still be on 39 kW reduced power
critical hours (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 12082-USB, Dec 20 at 1613, 2-way in colloquial Spanish,
INTRUDERS since the SWBC band extends to 12100 per ITU; which doesn`t
stop broadcasters being intruders above that (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** ALGERIA. 891 kHz, Dec 19 at 0705 and still 0717, carrier hetting
WLS 890. The RTA transmitter on 891 used to be our best Algerian
signal into deep North America, but missing for years. Reports from
Spain and elsewhere in Europe had just reported it reactivated first
with 1 kHz tone tests, like recently on 576 kHz from another site.
WRTH 2020 shows 891 as 600 kW, but half power at 1900-0600. Likewise
half-power hours for 576 and 252 kHz; and none of them shown as having
been inactive (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2013, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 7470, Dec 19 at 0344 tune-in, anti-Christ pirate,
Station YHWH back on his old evening frequency, fair and recognizable,
but with a medium SAH, which would be from Deewa Radio, via
Lampertheim, Germany, scheduled 0100-0400. No SAH at 0402 check; 0425
recheck, in music, his theme tune, Days of Hard Life? Others call it
creepy but I`ve not heard it straight thru; 0427 brief talk and off by
0428*. Had not heard him for a few days in the afternoon on 25mb where
first noted reactivated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2013, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 6125, Dec 19 at 0403, no signal from VOT English to W North
America, just some residual Cuban pulse jamming despite Radio/TV Martí
finishing at 0400. I leave receiver on with BFO until TRT carrier cuts
on very late at *0416 over jamming; 0417;40 JIP modulation in song;
S9+10/20 including the jamming. 0420 `Turkey Tourism` program about
Anatolia. Something`s always wrong at Emirler.

5960, Dec 19 at 2336 check, no signal from VOT`s other broadcast to
NAm. Something`s always wrong at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

** U S A. 9425, Dec 19 at 2134 & 2150, no signal from SMTV via WRMI
unlike the last two days; back on 5800? Not there either -- until 2325
check now 5800 is back on at S9+10 with the SM again promoting
Buddhism. There was nothing in HFCC or on WRMI website about 9425, but
Mike Terry found an FB post dated Dec 18 that they were experimenting
with 9425 until further notice, at 2100-0200. I guess that notice
already arrived (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2013, DX LISTENING

** BRAZIL. 6180, Dec 18 at 0009, RNA on again, in the clear before
CRI/CUBA hits by 0100; slightly better than // 11780 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 7850-CUSB, Dec 18 at 1924 and still at 0255 Dec 19, CHU
back on this air! To stay this time? Last time I heard it was Nov 29
but only briefly, gone again. System status as of 0215 UT Dec 19
https://nrc.canada.ca/en/chu-short-wave-station/
shows 7850 back on air as of Dec 17 at 1430 but think we would have
noticed it earlier if really on to stay by then (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6060, Dec 18 at *0000:24, RHC Spanish cuts on the air with
frequency schedule, interrupted by modulation and/or carrier cutting
off and on and off and on again; S9+30 when on. Something`s always
wrong at RHC. So WRMI, q.v., could still safely use 6060 before 0000
as still claimed on its skedgrid, but now on 9425 instead (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MALI. 13630, Dec 18 at 1856, S9+10/20 open carrier, 1900 sharp
China-Plus sign-on in English, first news about Macau; also weaker //
11640 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** PERU. 5980, Dec 17 until 2354:46.5* approx., R. Chaski carrier
cutoff under Cuban noise jamming despite no OCB; that would make it 2
seconds earlier than two nights ago, averaging only one per, so maybe
in margin of error (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 15225, Dec 18 at 1515, ME music with flutter. Had not
noticed this before next to RHC, but it`s SBC program 1 from 1500 per
EiBi, from 1450 per Aoki/NDXC, from 1500 per HFCC, 500 kW, 295 degrees
to NW Africa. JBA by 1549. Most of the daytime, 19m is a deadband
except for Cuba and bits of the few US stations (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2012 monitoring: confirmed Wed Dec
18 from 2100:20 on WBCQ 7490.045v, soon remarking that 576 kHz Algeria
is 600 kW, 30x the power of another FM station on AM, WSB with 50 kW;
make that only 12x! It`s hard to imagine any American MW station
running 600 kW.

Also confirmed UT Thu Dec 19 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, VP S7-S9 in noise.

First airings of WOR 2013 should be:
Fri 0900 on Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB
Fri 2300 on WRMI 9955
Sat 0130 on WRMI 5010 5850 7780
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9425, Dec 17 at 2302 & 2352, Dec 18 at 0002, SMTV on WWMI
new frequency remains on the air as I first reported yesterday; but
I`m out and don`t check whether it`s really the new RAE in Spanish
frequency too after 0100 Dec 18.

WRMI skedgrid late Dec 18 still shows no 9425! Just imaginary 6060 at
2100-2400 and 5800 at 0000-0200. 6060 BTW is neither occupied by RHC
until *0000:24 Dec 18 cut on with frequency schedule.

9425, Dec 18 at 2157, SMTV is already on as expected, and in case
there were any doubt, 2159.5 WRMI ID by Zanotti. 2351 SMTV still
audible, but by 0128 Dec 19 recheck inaudible, apparently faded out
like the other 9 MHz WRMI channels with K-index of 2 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 4840, Dec 18 after 0700, dead air from this WWCR again,
while 3215 and 5935 continue modulating their gospel huxters (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Momentous day Dec 18 for impeaching acting president Drumpf,
all-day coverage of House debate on major TV networx and cable news
channels --- but it`s business as usual on radio.

At 0017-0025 UT Dec 19 I scan the AM band twice for any // altho not
synchronized, to live TV coverage, and find such ONLY on 1170 KFAQ
Tulsa, and 1110 KFAB Omaha! The latter has cut away for ads at 0022,
but resumes by 0028.

Everything else is normal music, gospel-huxtering, sports or talk
formats, even the all-news stations like WBBM 780. Most of those
stations tilt far-right, but the event is rather important, with
Republicans and Democrats evenly alternating their different-universe
speeches. On FM it`s even worse, no one carrying it except KOSU from
NPR.

After 0100 shortly before the final voting on the Articles, I also
check TV channels via cable, to find live coverage ONLY on:
KFOR-4-NBC, KOCO-5-ABC, CSPAN-1, I24, CNN, MSNBC; Fox ``news`` shows
Rep. Schiff summing up on split screen while an anchor talx over him;
typical. KWTV-9-CBS did have all-day coverage, until 2330 UT when it
was the only major network still doing evening news, altho mostly
about Topic T (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1150, Dec 19 at 0023 UT, Mexmx roughly WSW-ENE with KSAL
nulled; maybe per NRC AM Log, Albuquerque KNMM listed at 1500/105
watts in Spanish but format undefined beyond that. Or El Paso KHRO,
5000/380 Radio Ministar in Spanish but supposed to be religious (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1520.7, Dec 18 at 1913 UT, once again, weak but constant
het upon 1520.00 KOKC OKC. Glad once before at midday I made sure that
het was 1521.00 as in Sa`udi Arabia, but not this; again suspecting
winter skywave from one of our closer 1520s, such as KRHW Sikeston MO
in the southeast; others in IA and TN about the same distance. KRHW is
supposed to have a null toward KOKC but we are slightly north of that

She told me that they have technical problems, did not want to give
details about earthquake. She said they don't know anything yet
(meaning top management), when CRI will come back on the air.

How are you and the others? Especially Noel and Wolfy? Keep in touch.

401 kHz, Dec 17 at 0732 UT, dash and ND beacon CPO as I copied it
dozing off, but must have been YPO, 500 watts at Peawanuck, Ontario

** CUBA. 6000, Dec 17 at 0352, RHC English is S9+30 but just a trace
of JB modulation; // 6145 is merely undermodulated but audible.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CUBA. 5910, Dec 17 at 0354, CRI music in Cantonese hour relay is
just barely modulated, like 6000 RHC itself. Something`s always wrong
at RadioCuba. Both supposed to be from Quivicán site and could
leapfrog unto 5820 but not audible there now (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13768 approx., Dec 17 at 1539, spurblob best audible in AM
mode, out of 13700 RHC; much stronger than its opposite circa 13632.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING

** SWAZILAND. Re 4760 TWR, conflicting info about languages at

``Hi Glenn, TWR website has 0400-0415 as Ndau language,
0330-0400 M-F as Shona
0345-0400 Sat as Shona
0330-0345 Sat as Ndebele
and 0330-0400 as Shona And Ndebele with different programs`` (Glenn

** U S A. 412 kHz, Dec 17 at 0730 UT, ND beacon CMY, which is 30 watts

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2012 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday
December 17 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, fair S7-S9. Next:

0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

Aussie Tim Gaynor informs us that Unique Radio is currently active
with WOR also scheduled Fridays at 0900 on 5045-USB; Mondays 0900 &
0930 on 5045-USB or 3210-USB --- presumably latest and previous
episode with a frequency change in between?

** U S A. 9425, Dec 17 at 2120, woman with heavy accent in English
rambling on about Buddhism, impossible to follow her point; sure
sounds like The Supreme Master, on new frequency. Yes, 2130 into some
music, outro as ``Treasured Jewel``, and SMTV website, announcements.
Got to be WRMI, which had been scheduled on 5800 starting at 2100 for
SMTV but no signal there, despite 5950 audible.

9425 sounds like one of WRMI`s undermodulated transmitters; it`s
S9/+10 but much softer and weaker than 9395 & 9455, halfway between
them with other programming. Still not shown at
http://www.tinyurl.com/WRMIfqs
So far *no* WRMI entry in Jeff`s HFCC on 9425, just updated today.
Must have been a tempting choice since nothing is registered on it
anywhen --- but HFCC omits all Voice of Korear usage, conveniently
finishing 9425 at 2057. Nothing about this on WRMI FB either. Nor at
https://suprememastertv.com/en1/worldwide/
There is no link to this on the Hitlist, not under WRMI. Now, how late
will 9425 last rather than 5800, previously scheduled until 0100 with
SMTV, plus another hour of RAE AAM in Spanish? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
