** MEXICO. The 6m DXMAP shows an MUF spike to 106 MHz somewhere south of here, so altho most spots are much lower, I figure it`s worth trying for a decent sporadic E FM DX session, and so it is, the first here this ``summer`` since mid-April. Altho it`s pretty hot in the car, at least it`s not in the sun, so the Nissan stock radio is primary, with the DX-398 secondary, antenna out the window. The latter has RDS but none of the DX signals are strong/stable enough to decode if any, but at least I can keep track of two frequencies at a time.
This starts UT Sat June 13 at 0028. I try <92 MHz first, but nothing makes it thru all the ACI or CCI. I might miss some US stations, but q.v. a few, as I`m alert for frequencies speaking Spanish. All these from my notes on my receivers in real time, no remotes, and no recordings. Prime reference source, the WTFDA FM Radio Station Database. Distances city-to-city, not exact coords, distancefromto.net 0028, 93.3 Spanish, ``La Banda 93``, caller on phone then music, and soon super-hype voice actor (SHVA) as ``La Nueva`` with no further numbers. One or both non-IDs? The latter gets one hit: ``XHPNVO-FM 93.3 EL SALTO DGO MEX 6.0 kW 101.2 m 23-46-42 105-21-37 Spanish HD GRUPERA LA NUEVA 93.3``. 1575 km = 979 stmi 0030, 93.5, Spanish talk, VG but no RDS; advice show mentions ``las bubis`` 0033, 95.3, Spanish music mixing with KOKC translator - which really gets out 100 km from a tall tower 0033, 97.3, PSA about Corona Virus in Spanish and a segment in an Indigenous language; ``radio y televisión mexicana --- contigo``. Then repeating phone number 4-12-13-14, in Udalá (?). Nothing fits in the db, but there are about 4 stations in the northern tier of states. The MUF in this opening. 0035, 93.1, Spanish ID as ``Hits FM 93.1`` and ad for algo on Canal 6; 0037 ID again, PSA about CV cuarentena from the Cámara de Diputados; 0039 ID as XHCTO, Torreón, Coahuila, and a third Hits non-ID. 0046, ``Habla Corazón``, from same station? program name? 0049 announcer asks for reports (not DX, I assume), acknowledges listeners in Parral, León, Torreón. Listed as: ``XHCTO-FM 93.1 TORREÓN COAH MEX 38.56 kW 208.0 m 25-31-29 103-27-19 Spanish SPANISH TEEN HITS - JUVENIL HITS FM``. 1304 km = 810 stmi 0040, 92.9, ad for Colegio España, ``92.9 España FM, definiendo la nueva cultura``, about UNIS(?), ``estamos en tu cabeza``, Viz.: ``XHUNES-FM 92.9 DURANGO DGO MEX 10.0 kW 54.0 m 24-02-53 104-37-47 Spanish ESPAÑA FM College ESPAÑA FM Universidad España``. 1521 km = 945 stmi 0048, 92.1, Spanish rap mixing with norteña music 0051, 92.3, music and Spanish ID? missed; 0055 TC for 7,55 and temp 33 grados, music; time means it`s here in the CDT zone, not PDT, so distinct from what I hear next; see Durango below later on 92.3. 0057 ``La Bestia 92.3``, Diputados PSA, CCI, then ToH ID as XHMMF, Mexicali, Baja California. 0103 ``la mula blanca``, apparently not the name of a different station. Viz.: ``XHMMF-FM 92.3 MEXICALI BC MEX 21.9 kW 48.08m 32-38-18 115-38-17 Spanish SPANISH HITS BALADAS LA BESTIA GRUPERA``. 1637 km = 1017 stmi Had to run inside for another logbook, so resuming after a break: 0118, 92.3, ``Caliente`` slogan, Spanish music, CCI in Spanish and English(Kansas?). Viz. one hit and in the PTA = probable target area: ``XHTRR-FM 92.3 TORREÓN COAH MEX 15.0 kW 208.0m 25-31-29 103-27-19 Spanish CALIENTE REGIONAL MEXICAN LA CALIENTE``. 1304 km = 810 stmi 0119, 92.7, romantic music in Spanish 0122, 96.5, romantic music in Spanish above the Okies, soon f/out 0125, 90.7, romantic music in Spanish, too much ACI both sides 0128, 93.1, Spanish music, 0129 DJ with advice like 93.5 earlier. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also USA for same opening ** SPAIN. 9690, June 12 at 2200, REE English this Friday has Alison Hughes discussing the economic consequences of COVID-19 in Spain, and still at 2226 check, so no music fill? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, June 12 at 2200 and still 2226, no signal in English from VOT; something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 28224.4-CW, June 12 at 2151, K5GJR/B JBA over and over from this beacon, only signal I`m getting on a quick 10mb scan during sporadic E opening. But at 2156 back here definitely off -- maybe it was an antenna rotation hiatus (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7490, UT Sat June 13 at 0000, after FKB gospel huxter finishes, WBCQ with a spot commercial for SDRs; 0001.5 dead air; 0002 a few seconds of old favorite song ``Wheels``; 0003 another tune; 0004 ID for AM 780, Monticello-Presque Isle, and a bit of USA Radio News, cut off; 0004.5 finally ``William Tell Overture`` theme of `AAAWWW` starts, 0007.8 among his first words, ``confusion``. 5130 and 6159.9 were not on at 0000, but at 0003 at least a carrier from 5130 but can`t make out any mod. 6159.9 on by 0019 check, running 17 seconds behind 7490; and 5130 VP, unknown delay. However, I`ve just noticed sporadic E MUF up to 106 MHz, so away I go hoping to catch an FM DX opening here: see MEXICO, and USA. John Carver fills us in on the rest of `AAAWWW`: ``Tonight's show started on 7490 four minutes late this evening and no signal on 5130, and 6160 was carrying something else. Six minutes in, 5130 and 6160 were both carrying AAWWW but then 6160 went into Mama Mia or some such. Allan and Angela in the studio. Allan blamed the late start on computer problems. 6160 back to AAWWW by the next check. Opening talk about America and the world a "ball of confusion". The foam in Allan's headphones began to break apart and he had black flecks of it on his face and shirt. Then back to the ball of confusion. A very animated Angela this evening went into a long rant that I won't get into as it was a bit distasteful. Phone call at 0019 from a caller who said that both Allan and Angela were correct and then went on to say that most of the problems in this country were due to vaccines and the way they were administered. Another call immediately from a nurse that defended vaccines and stated that vaccines and good hygiene are what has kept us alive and healthy. Another immediate phone call from a gentleman who is learning how to drive a truck and complaining about how difficult it was. Allan then launches an appeal for racial diversity and acceptance. Then a long discussion between Allan and the animated Angela about recent events in this country. Closing prayer at 0056 and then reading of two emails at 0058. Program was off the air at 0100 in the middle of a sentence. John, Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Sporadic E opening, UT Saturday June 13, mainly from N/W MEXICO, q.v., but also AZ: 0101, 92.3, traffic report about I-17 freeway, and State Road 89, then weather by YL sponsored by Howard Air, news about marches in ``The Valley``, all of which mean it has to be Phœnix AZ, viz.: ``KTAR-FM 92.3 GLENDALE AZ USA 98.0 kW 545.0 m 33-19-58 112-03-48 HD KTAR Arizona's News Station NEWS/TALK KTAR NEWS``. (db does not show KHEV as KHYM relay) 0121, 97.3 sports talk in English, Es fades, soon gone, not // OK on 1390 or 640. No such station in AZ. Could be 50 kW KWFN San Diego CA, also with several low-power co-channel relays in the area, including one for Dan Sheedy 0135, 92.3, ``KTAR News`` and fade-out as opening is ending? 1340 km = 833 stmi. ** CHINA [non]. Re my unlisted 9300 log, from a huge exhaustive all-band dekaday survey by Wolfgang Bueschel of ChiCom jamming: ``9299.959 0000-2359 TWN SOH Xi Wang Zhi Shen. Chinese Miaoli, S=9 at 00.40 UT on June 10.`` so it was SOH without jamming when he heard it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. Re my previous report about RHC, James Branum, OK, replies: ``Glenn, I think you are speaking about Elena Valverde. With regards to English fluency, I have met Irma (from the Mailbag show) on my two visits to RHC and can say she is extremely fluent in English. I hope to someday meet the other on-air staff, but so far have only met her. As to the issue of censorship... That is not how it works in Cuban state media today. It is much more understated with an emphasis on staying on message, presenting Cuba in a positive light, etc. This approach is not far removed from what most state and corporate broadcasters do. James Branum, KG5JST and RHC fan`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11670, June 11 at 0052, RHC S9+5 in Spanish and extremely distorted. So presumably not live // 13840 RNZI direct, unchecked, with different Pacifican programming scheduled for full hour. Heavy jamming before 0100 vs Alameda Bible Fellowship in English now slowly abates. But what is the point of onsending this to South America one day a week? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. ** ANTARCTICA. 15476-, June 10 at 1451, JBA carrier from LRA36, another Wednesday-only broadcast over a mostly-water path from Esperanza to Enid. Cleaning up brush after another windstorm, I don`t get around to checking the Brazilian remotes this week (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA. 13020, 11440, 10920, June 10 at 1453, the only CNR1 jammers found in scan from 13.3 to 10.8 MHz, JBA music or worse (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13740, June 9 at 2054, S6-S7 open carrier of RHC: this is not something wrong, but warming up for nominal tarde start at 2100 on this and several others (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 12200, June 10 at 0552, RHC English S9-S6 on 2 x 6100 much stronger, the voice of Lena (?) Valverde --- one cannot imagine her speaking extemporaneously like ``Ed Newman``, instead of stiltedly reading a script once run by the censors. Maybe she`s not that confident of her English fluency. Searching the RHC website I get no hits on Valverde except for someone else surnamed. The About-us page is no help either to acquaint us with individual announcers, rather political reasons for RHC as an entity. Since we often get such harmonix, this prompts me to compute possible harmonix of other higher RHC frequencies which might show up by sporadic E, especially now at season-peak. Here are all of them below 31.5 MHz, seconds, thirds, fourths; fifths and sixths for the lowest: 15730 = 31460 15370 = 30740 15230 = 30460 15140 = 30280 15120 = 30240 13740 = 27480 13700 = 27400 13650 = 27300 11950 = 23900 11880 = 23760 11800 = 23600 11760 = 23520 11700 = 23400 11670 = 23340 9790 = 29370, 19580 9640 = 28920, 19280 9580 = 28740, 19160 9570 = 28710, 19140 9535 = 28605, 19070 7380 = 29520, 22140, 14760 7350 = 29400, 22050, 14700 6145 = 30725, 24580, 18435, 12290 6100 = 30500, 24400, 18300, 12200* 6060 = 30300, 24240, 18180, 12120 6000 = 30000, 24000, 18000, 12000* 5990 = 29950, 23960, 17970, 11980* 5040 = 30240, 25200, 20160, 15120, 10080 5025 = 30150, 25125, 20100, 15075, 10050 4765 = 28590, 23825, 19060, 14295*, 9530* * indicates those which have axually been monitored as I recall. Of course, these are possible only when the fundamental be on the air. Included are all currently active RHC and CRI relay frequencies, Rebelde, Progreso, but not jammers, intermodulation or other spurs, nor spy numbers which come from the same sites. I`ve used a calculator to be sure all these be correct; more useful would be to arrange them into a single frequency order, but that`s enough for now. Perhaps someone else will do that? Of course, even higher harmonix are quite possible in a strong sporadic E opening from Cuba; an harmonic no more than 3X from 15730 would land on 47190 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13766 & 13634 approx., June 10 at 1337, RHC spurblobs out of 13700-AM, no readable mod. At 1354 I try for more, which are JBA circa 13569, 13831, with F# tone in AM which is also audible on S9+20 13700 but not on // unrelated 13740. However, at 1449 recheck 13700 still on but no spurs audible. Something`s always wrong at RHC. BTW, if you find that remark tiresome, don`t blame the messenger. If RHC ever get its acts together, I shall happily stop saying it; DHYB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SUDAN SOUTH [non]. 11650, my previous log of R. Tamazuj --- sounds like ``Tamazuk`` --- mentioning their alleged English news segment Wed & Sat at 0415-0425, served as a note-to-self to check it out at next opportunity: I had MADAGASCAR well direct but Wed June 10 at 0412 for convenience at the computer bring up UTwente instead, with a VG signal, much better than // 7315 via France. Interview by OM with YL on phone about Corona virus; the only English being when he says ``OK`` to start each reply. NO other English, keeps going in presumed Juba Arabic (which does sound rather different than standard Arabic), until 0422 music, 0427 elaborate sign-off; ending with mention of sibling FPU station Radio Dabanga, which axually starts to sign-on, before cut off the air at 0429.8*. Comes back on at *0431. There was no need for a break as per HFCC exactly the same parameters apply to both: 250 kW at 335 degrees, 15 slew, 159 antenna type. But where`s the English, Ivo? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U K. 9800, June 9 at 2100* poor signal with a smidgen of music and off. HFCC has it as Encompass via Woofferton in Arabic at 1800-2100 but we know it`s really World`s Last Chance Radio, having found 500 kW from Maine insufficient, at least while stuck to 9330. Also registered at 19-21 on 9800 is something NEW from Bulgaria in English; maybe a standby siteswitch for same? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2037 monitoring; next: 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Thanks this week for financial support from Tom Goodfellow, Palm Desert CA, who sent a generous contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com PayPal not necessarily in US funds as they will convert. One may also contribute by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 Next WOR 2038 should be ready by early UT Friday June 12 for first WRMI broadcast at 2200 on 9955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7490v, June 9 at 2105, WBCQ in `AAAWWW` playback from June 6 as he`s talking about making their own ice cream; yes, listed as an Available Time Slot. Better reception than I expect this early in the summer; AW recently said he had beefed up power on the classic transmitters; now fair S6-S9, let`s hope also for WOR 24 hours later on Wednesday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7505, June 10 at 0144, WRNO is S9+10/20 of dead air; except for some JBA beeping, QRM or self-inflicted? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15825, June 9 at 2050, dead air except for squeal! from WWCR-1; finally about 2050.5 starts `Unshackled` at very odd hour. Maybe it`s the default filler for a failure? No, it`s scheduled for 2030 Tuesdays. Anyhow, noting an S9-S7 signal boost by sporadic E. Despite these tipoffs, VHF Es openings MUF into the FM band continue to elude me (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, June 10 at 0547, S6-S8 seems like Bislama from R Vanuatu; 7890 with JBA carrier, harmonix from 3945, but no signal on x 4 = 15780; 0555 music, 0559 announcements mixed with music, maybe one English word caught, ``o`clock``. It seems they are running 3945 + multiples earlier and earlier, or all the time? Ron Howard listened to 11835 from 0445 June 8, and they were already on at 0255 June 9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Local scratch-noise blobs have drifted up/down but still at about 360 kHz intervals. Any idea what device would behave like that? June 9 at 2100 finds them around 9700-9750 peaking 9725-9730; 9335-9400, 9370; 8975-9050, 9010 (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR) This report despatched at 1905 UT June 10

Tuesday, June 09 2020
** ALGERIA [non]. 9620, June 9 at 0602, RTA relay via FRANCE is starting with tweeting on own audio, self-imposed beep QRM as the defective ISS transmitter is now here; plus my own local bubbling from some device, quite a combination vs Arabic song (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA [and non]. CNR1 jammer survey, June 9, starting at 1351. Some of these are JBA carriers, so presumed, the stronger ones with metereadings, all in Chinese, no Firedragon heard; most against Sound of Hope, some USAGM: 13920 S6-S9; 13835; 13530 JBAC; 13160 JBAC; 13150; 12880 S5-S7; 12870 S5-S7; (12350? = 13740 Cuba minus 1390 KCRC local mix); 12190. By now it`s 1357 with time running out this hour; skipping past any 25m in-band: 11460 S9-S7; 11170; 11150; 11100; 10920. At 1417: 10820; 10960; 11070; 11100 S3-S6, 11440 S9-S6; 11460 S6-S9; 12190 JBAC; 12210 S5-S8; 12500 S6-S9; 12800 JBAC; 12820 JBAC; 12880 S6-S4. At 1423: 13020 S9/+10!; 14850 JBAC; 14920 JBAC. At 1428: 15110 S8/S9+10 vs VOA Philippines, but no sign of it, just this CNR1 // 13020. Scanned up thru entire 16 & 17 MHz band but none more until: At 1430: 17690, JBA but // 13020. I seldom check after 1500 but I do today tuning down from 17690 which is now off: at 1505, none higher than: 11440, 11100, 11070 (and two JBA local mixes: 10770 = 12160 WWCR minus 1390 KCRC; 10490 = 11880 CRI Cuba minus 1390 KCRC). So there you have a fraxion of the hyper-paranoid ChiCom attempt to block any dissent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** FRANCE [and non]. 9805, June 9 at 0604, something is here under heavy Cuban jamming, certainly not Radio Martí. It`s RFI in Hausa at 0600-0630! Yet another station which doesn`t have the sense to avoid any frequency ever jammed by Cuba, at any time, any year. EiBi shows one other daring to employ 9805, KBS World Radio four hours a day, one of them axually overlapping RM at 10-11. See also ALGERIA [non] (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Since I no longer have a regular DXLD sexion UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIALS, I can`t resist quoting this nice response, especially since some other guy brickbats me and wants me banned from some list: (gh) ``Glenn, I always enjoy your detailed reports, writing style, and commentary! This time, I particularly liked your discussion of “** U S A. 1270, June 2 at 2014 UT, in full daytime conditions, KRXO Claremore (Tulsa) OK silly sports talk at 5 kW with heavy SAH of exactly 1 Hz from another groundwaver.” Lotta good DX tech & thinking in that, good science and detective work, plus I so agree with your assessment of “stupid sportstalk” programming. It’s why I cannot sit on any station for more than a few minutes these days, except the rare ones that run music. Can’t stand the mindless talk of any flavor. // Thanks again for your informative/entertaining reports, always a good read! – 73s de Fred in Waynesburg, PA (with a wonderful ICOM 7300 I seldom get to use)`` Schroyer, IRCA iog. Tnx, Fred! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, June 9 at 2228, VOT English to us is on, but JBM if not dead air. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. No RTTY QRM, anyway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 13565-CW, June 9 at 1424, K6FRC beacon in Patterson CA is JBA vs CODAR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2037 monitoring: confirmed Monday June 8 at 1801 on IRRS 7290 via BULGARIA. Recorded off UTwente SDR and spotchecked later, apparently intact for the next 29 minutes. I start setting up recording at 1702 when Iran`s Russian service from 1650 is running --- and I am already hearing the ``RTTY``-- like warble underneath, so that sound is NOT coming out of IRRS as I previously thought, but what? Is it an artifact at UTwente; or somesignal on 7290 at broader hours? I have not compared to what happen via other SDRs. BTW, Iran`s Russian hour on 7290 is somehow missing from Aoki/NDXC, but correctly in EiBi. [24 hours later, June 9 at 1750 during the break, I am trying other SDRs, such as Bucharest, and after a VG signal from Iran, there is definitely high-speed RTTY or something on 7291! What`s it doing in the broadcast band? Intruder! And there is now a weaker unID 7290 broadcast signal with songs, which unseems either VIRI or IRRS; only other 7290 scheduled is CNR1 Beijing site until 1805, Via UTwente, it`s JBA under IRRS open carrier before it modulate at 1759. Back to Bucharest, the unID has a 5+1 China-style timesignal at ToH. Talk resumes and it does seem to stop at 1805. IRRS is sufficient at Bucharest but much stronger at UTwente; `Wavescan` after 1830 Tue.] Now back to June 8: My recording starts at 1750 when the VIRI IS is briefly heard, and off*, this week in plenty of time before IRRS. The warble is still heard with neither station in the break. After a few minutes of open carrier, circa 1759, IRRS feed cuts on during a song; soon ``From south of the Alps in northern Italy, you are tuned in to I double-R S shortwave, address P O Box 10980 in N-20110 MILL-ah-noh, Italy`` and phone number; right into FSN Washington quick headlines before WOR. Also confirmed UT Tue June 9 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, VG at Utwente, weak ute ACI from 7784 evitable; direct check at 0129, S9 with different co-channel uteblaaps on and off. Next: 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Thanks this week for financial support from Tom Goodfellow, Palm Desert CA, who sent a generous contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com PayPal not necessarily in US funds as they will convert. UDXF iog has some 2019y logs of Algerian Air Force; I don`t think so, now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 11130-11155, June 9 at 1358, local scratch-noise peak blob around here during CNR1 jammer bandscan; others in the 10s as usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 1855 UT June 9
