Glenn Hauser logs May 8-9, 2020 |

Saturday, May 09 2020
** CANADA. 2749-USB, May 9 at 0606-0609*, Canadian Coast Guard, Nova-Scotia-area frequency, *two* roboYL in French, sound alike but unseem duplicative or echo, equal levels until both stop at 0609 after ``terminé``. I am now thinking this be a malfunxion out of a single transmitter rather than two clashing: Yarmouth/Halifax/Sydney/Escoumins, none of which are scheduled on air at this hour per http://dxinfocentre.com/mb.htm (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA. 15165, May 9 at 1359 ``Jump`` song, Chinese briefly, timesignal and off, CNR1 jammer against VOA Mandarin via Thailand, this hour only. 15110, May 9 at 1401, Chinese, CNR1 jammer vs VOA Mandarin via Philippines, this hour only. These encourage me to keep tuning downwards thru WOOB areas for more of them: 13130, May 9 at 1403, CNR1 jammer // 15110, but here against Sound of Hope. 13070, May 9 at 1405, open carrier with flutter, similar signal to 13130 but no modulation, just as the upper goes off. 13070 also SOH. 11170, May 9 at 1417, CNR1 jammer vs SOH. 11150, May 9 at 1418, CNR1 jammer vs SOH; altho Aoki/NDXC shows this one stops at 1000, unlike EiBi. I keep tuning WOOB down to 8 MHz but none further heard. But one more later: 11675, May 9 at 1520, Chinese dialog, CNR1 jammer vs RFA Mandarin via Saipan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** COLOMBIA. 2940.133, May 9 at 0610, JBA carrier detected for the record, despite heavy storms in the RGV and Louisiana coast, presumed HJNT, Radio Huellas, Cali, 2 x 1470.0665, South America`s most reliable MW harmonic (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 7380, May 8 at 2301, RHC in Spanish instead of English, which is heard only on 5040, not 11880 which 7380 replaced a few days ago. Spanish frequency announcement, partial? of 11850 and 6000: 11850 is also wrong, having moved onto Romania`s 11800. 7380 still in Spanish at 2321. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11670, May 9 at 0123, RHC S9+20 of dead air, then suptorted modulation, cutting in and out. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11880, May 9 at 1409, no signal from CRI Plus relay in English; oops, recheck at 1521, now it`s on, S9+20 but undermodulated; something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13700, May 9 at 1518, dead air of S9+20 from RHC. But no spurblobs today. 13740, May 9 at 1518, almost dead air of S9, but JBM of RHC; long after both are supposed to quit. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ROMANIA [and non]. 11800, May 8 at 2302, RRI starts the Spanish hour atop RHC, but is losing out by 2309 to RHC // 7380 instead of English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, May 8 at 2237 check, VOT makes it on today, poor-fair music; 2249 CV precaution PSA; 2251 multi-lingual ID filler; 2253 sign-off as if the 1230 on 15450, IS until 2256*, off just in time to avoid fantastical German lead-in. Something`s always awry at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 2097.3-CW, May 9 at 0613, single-letter beacon A, every 10 seconds audible vs high noise level, anywhere but Quartzsite AZ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2033 monitoring: confirmed first WRMI broadcast, Friday May 8 at 2200 on 9955 --- checking via remotes instead of here: very heavy pulse jamming at Brasil, Trinidad; Colombia SDRs gone; somewhat audible vs jamming at Bonaire, Dominican Republic, Maine. However, good at Alexandria VA, little or no jamming until fading down by 2225. Also confirmed UT Saturday May 9 at 0130 here on WRMIs: 5850 VG S9+20/30 despite omitted from new WRTH A-20 update, among other errors; also 5010 S9+10/20 slightly better than 7780 S9/+10, both noisy. Also confirmed Saturday May 9 at 1323 the 1300 on WRMI 15770, poor S6-S9, presumably much better NE of FL. Next: 1930vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 0300vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315] 0300 UT Sunday WRMI 5800 [NEW] [to be confirmed] 0900 UT Sunday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB or 3210 0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 0300vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 or 6160v 0330 UT Monday WRMI 9955 [may be jammed] 0900 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB or 3210 1800vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? 594-Italy 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Thanks this week for financial support from John Boyle, who sent a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com and remarx: ``Thanks Glenn for all you do. 73 John N8JJO`` PayPal not necessarily in US funds as they will convert. One may also contribute by money order or check in US funds on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7490, UT Sat May 9 from 0000, WBCQ with `Allan & Angela Wiener Worldwide` --- John Carver reports: ``Tonight's show started on time on 7490. Music on 5130 and no signal on 6160. Program came up on 5130 at 0002 but still no signal on 6160. Allan and Angela in the studio but it is a repeat of last week's show as Allan removes his shirt because of the heat and then they talk about May Day. John Mid-North Indiana`` Yes, I also heard the first few minutes when it became obviously a repeat from last week. You were right, it was Allan who took off his shirt, not Angela; wishful thinking? He always introduces her as ``gorgeous``. See for yourself on a number of twits such as: https://twitter.com/AllanWBCQ/status/1251530237206282247/photo/1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 5005, May 9 at 0100, VP carrier, much like we get from EQUATORIAL GUINEA after 0500; could that transmitter be onstuck? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 9875+, May 9 at 0129, algo S6-S9, JBM. Nothing listed at this time in the Big 3 references; slightly off-frequency+plus, a clew (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 12535-USB, May 9 at 1407, 2-way in Spanish, laughing, one stronger than the other. Maybe legit, as was ship station channel 117 as of Klingenfuss 2002 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1920 UT May 9

** CUBA. 15140, May 8 at 1859-1910+, no signal from RHC English, as I let the white noise lull my nap. Nor on alternate frequency 16180 when it gets confused with Spy Numbers. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Thursday, May 07 2020
** CUBA [and non]. 7380, May 6 at 2300, RHC English still here, not 11880.
11800, May 6 at 2312 RHC Spanish still colliding with and atop RRI Spanish from Romania; its // 11990 in clear while 11700 remains vacant. 13740, May 6 at 2315, this RHC is off, so no spurs either; 13650 CRI distorted music relay instead of Portuguese is on. 15730, May 6 at 2316, RHC Kriyol is VP S9 and suppressed/distorted modulation; 15230 also on with Spanish, amounting to the SSOB and OSOB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NICARAGUA [non?]. 8989-USB, May 6 2309, JBA talk, seems like speech rather than 2-way, can`t even be sure it`s Spanish, but it looks like the fisher-preacher may have resumed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2032 monitoring: confirmed Wed May 6 at 2122 check, the 2100:20v on WBCQ 7490+, VP S4-S5 as always in the summer thru the dayside. Also confirmed UT Thu May 7 0100 on WRMI 7780, good via remote in Maine. WOR 2033 should be ready early UT Friday May 8, first US SWBC Friday at 2200 on WRMI 9955. ** ALASKA. 9580, May 6 at 1452, KNLS is again on correct frequency instead of 9695, S5-S7 ID as ``Your New Life Station``, P O Box address in Anchor Point (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ALGERIA [non]. 13820, May 6 at 1753, via UTwente I am standing by for RTA/TDA relay via FRANCE to start, meanwhile nothing but band noise on frequency. Issoudun does cut on a few seconds before *1800 and at exactly the same time the beepery, so it does surely seem to be defect of own transmitter, not jamming from somewhere else. The relative level of beepery continues same thruout hour as I keep listening. Altho the Qur`an Service, it`s far from total recitations; first news in French, then a lot of talk in Arabic, various music mixed with recitations. That`s the only frequency for the first hour, but at 1900 I find the beepery has switched to 11985; while the second frequency 12060 is free of it. Both go off at 1957. *2000 next pair come on, 9655 beeped, 9510 clear, immediately into nothing but Qur`an. If this self-QRM has been going on for years, it`s strange that so few random logs by others mention it. Maybe worse now? Or people just have ignored it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 711.00, May 6 at 0205, off-frequency het upon legit 710 stations such as KCMO; even stronger at 0222. Also a beat of about 3 Hz between two off-frequency 1 kHz het signals when tuned to 710-USB; At 0225, I isolate 711 as much as possible and attempt to hear any modulation to match Radio Rebelde on 5025; JBA but not 100% positive. 711 still there at 0601, vs Mexican NA in the 710 mix. At this time there are no TA 9-kHz signals on the lower half of band; one JBA carrier on 846, presumed from night-path Kiritimati. Steven Wiseblood, Harlingen TX in the RGV, replied April 21-22: ``2-3 weeks ago Rebelde was measured at 710.5 kHz. As of April 15th they have returned to nominal 710.00 kHz. When they were off frequency they were producing a MASSIVE HET agaisnt semi-local 710 KURV Edinburg. I seem to remember a few years ago Rebelde was on 711 for a few days, and were easily strong enough to be separable from 710. This time I measured the audio beat to 710 kHz. At least on one early morning I measured the audio beat from Rebelde at 510 Hz.`` However, I, gh, never caught anything around 710.51. Remember, there are SEVEN Rebelde transmitters on 710 per WRTH 2020 page 172, ranging from 200 to 1 kW, plus a Radio Guamá 10 kW in Pinar del Río. We really can`t tell which two are on 711, and it`s definitely not right to say ``Radio Rebelde on 711 instead of 710`` as if there were only one of them. DXers in FL might be able to sort this out; except for QRM from ``wacky`` WAQI 50 kW Miami, which is why all these CMBAs converged on 710 in the first place. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba. Ask Arnie? Ha3 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Tue May 5 at 1934-1941, RHC English with `DXers Unlimited` over this variable span. Hard to follow; I think he was mainly talking about ham QRP operation; distorted, but less so this time than French on 15370. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13700, May 6 at 1350, no spurblobs from RHC today but 13700 itself is splattery. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11880, May 6 at 1448 check, CRI Plus English relay is gone again after resuming yesterday after two days gone. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO [and non]. 6185, May 6 at 0617, XEPPM fair modulation, enough to tell that it`s the finale of Beethoven`s Ninth, but played on keyboard, with a bit of choral; 0620 segué to Pomp & Circumstance. They used to have a detailed playlist but now can`t even find a program grid schedule at https://radioeducacion.edu.mx/ QRM from irregular tones of same pitch; not clear whether own transmitter defect or QRM. RHC on 6145 is intoning about plus/minus 4 kHz at music peaks, and so are 6100 & 6060, so a defect in their program feed, maybe multiplied (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PHILIPPINES. After several weeks off, VOP is reported resumed by Jose Jacob to the WOR iogroup May 5: ``Message is received from Radyo Pilipinas that they are back on air from 1 May 2020. - Thanking you, Yours sincerely, Jose Jacob, VU2JOS`` Alan Holder, Isle of Wight: ``Great to hear this good news. I tuned in yesterday (May 5) at 1730 and heard them as follows: 9960 – poor signal strength, noisy, but in the clear; 12120 – fair signal – clear – but with atmospheric noise; 15190 – no propagation to the U.K. currently. The broadcast opened with many public information ads on Covid-19. A shame they do not have a mixture of Filipino and English on both the 0200 and 1730 releases. Alan Holder, Isle of Wight, U.K.`` However, no signals detected on any of the three frequencies scheduled at 0200-0330, when I tried at 0305-0310 UT May 6 remotes in Vietnam, India, Philippines, China, New Zealand. All are generally beamed westward. 12010, 15640, 17820 http://www.hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=A20&broadc=PBS But Ron Howard replies, ``Hi Glenn, Listening May 6, at 0238 UT, on 15640; was clearly in English, but not very readable; on 12010 and 17820, only had a carrier, with no audio. At least they are back on the air again! Ron California``. Keep in mind VOP is Duterte`s government station. Meanwhile he has closed the largest commercial radio/TV network, ABS-CBN: Among several press reports about it, via Matt Francis to WOR iog: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-52548703 Via Vince Ferme, Ottawa, IRCA iog: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/05/philippines-largest-tv-network-abs-cbn-ordered-shut-200505084440098.html Via Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA), ibid.: https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/05/05/20/abs-cbn-shutdown-comes-at-worst-possible-time-amid-pandemic-says-rights-watchdog (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, May 5 at 2200, another day off for VOT English to N America; possibly came on late, unrechecked (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 366-MCW kHz, May 6 at 0609 UT, ND beacon EGK(?) I`m certain of the last letter but not the middle one. Best fit at dxinfocentre.com is EOK, 25 watts in Keokuk, Iowa. Only thing unusual vs spring noise level (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [non?]. 9885, May 6 at 0616, VP signal in French? VOA Grimesland has been scheduled here M-F at 0600-0630, but wondering if they would keep it with no OCB or anything else to diffuse overnight. HFCC as of May 5 shows it still GB for the rest of A20. The previous semihour is via Woofferton and could probably be extended from that or some other site. This time of night, prop even from NC on this band could be this poor (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2032 monitoring: next and last: 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE WOR 2033 should be ready early UT Friday May 8, first US SWBC Friday at 2200 on WRMI 9955. Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Thanks this week for financial support from Anne Fanelli, Elma NY, who sent a US$ cheque to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7490.12v, May 5 at 2053, checking WBCQ direct just before the heavily publicized `Big Broadcast of 2020`. Yep, VP S4-S5 in daytime noise level, so useless. Instead I listen to the entire hour via webcast 2100-2200, and enjoy presentations of several different music shows; some of it even sounds $ tereophonic. 7490 reception is just as bad toward the end recheck at 2157. Now if they can put it on after dark, everyone will have a better chance to hear it on SW. Meanwhile the 500 kW remains dedicated to flatearthism on 9330 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2024 UT May 6

** CUBA. 7350, May 5 at 1347, RHC still here but poor, ex-7340 where there is algo, presumably NK clandestine from Tajikistan; but QSY may be more to avoid own jamming and Radio Martí, very strong on 7335. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11760, May 5 at 1354, RHC is S9+10 but suptorted, unusual for this legacy frequency; wiggle that patchcord! 13740, May 5 at 1358, S9 and suptorted even worse. Somethings always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13490, 13559, 13630; 13771, 13841, 13910, 13981 approx., May 5 at 1355, spurblob panoply at 70-71 kHz intervals out of RHC 13700-AM. Best audible in FM mode, always with F# tone above Cmiddle. 13559 and 13770 are VG S9, the outermost ones JBA. But at 1400 all go silent as modulation stops; after breakfast of pineapple, next check at 1432 they are all back. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11880, May 5 at 1518, CRI English relay is back on, after at least two days` missing. Something`s not wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7457-USB, May 5 at 1345, MARS net 4TX2, presumably referring to Texas, NCS AFA4VO calling for contacts and one comes from AFA4WP with relays, both fonetik. Much more detailed logs of this frequency including AFA4VO: https://www.w4uvh.net/dxld8031.txt from 12+ years ago, and briefly 3- years ago: http://www.w4uvh.net/dxld1735.txt Google searching on AFA4VO it`s amazing how many non-MARS false hits, like license plates, stuff in Chinese, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2032 monitoring: confirmed Monday May 4 from 1800:40 on IRRS 7290-Romania? via UTwente. Strong carrier came on at *1756 diminishing but not eliminating splash from 7280 & 7300; 1759 cut on modulation talking about crisis, RNA; soon cut that off for canned IRRS sign-on again advising, wrongly, that this is on compatible reduced-carrier USB, best tuned in that mode! NOT, never by this site, just full carrier AM/DSB, but probably was long ago when really out of Milano. 1800 three FSN headlines, then into WOR. Despite no ACI from 7295 & 7285, even with narrow bandwidth, 7290 still suffers some kind of QRM, apparently splash from SSS - stilted Spanish from 7280 Vietnam. And 7300 German is also strong from Iran until 1820. 1830 longer FSN stories from Washngton, into Dan Roberts` `Shortwave Report`; again his final brief item is from Sputnik about dying Capitalism, but not brief enough, not to be chopped off in time for 1859 IRRS sign-off. WOR 2032 also confirmed UT Tue May 5 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, S9+10 but noisy here from heavy storms in SE OK. Next: 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Thanks this week for financial support from Anne Fanelli, Elma NY, who sent a US$ cheque to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com Just noticed May 5 on the WRMI skedgrid an additional time for WOR on WRMI, finally back on the air Saturday night: UT Sunday 0300 on 5800 (and follows revived Radio Tirana at 0230 UT Sun & Mon); to be confirmed. 5800 is WRMI-10 at 160 degrees, same as WRMI-3 on 9955, but 5800 is always good here, never MUFed out nor jammed like 9955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. What`s on WRMI, UT Tue May 5 at 0112+: 5010 // 5850, Alameda Bible Fellowship Robotnik 5800, RTI in Spanish 9395, RAE in English, S9+10/20 9455, Hal Turner insanity, S9+10/30 This is another anomaly example: 9395 & 9455 are supposed to be on exactly the same antenna azimuth 355 degrees, and 100 kW power, only 60 kHz apart so propagation identical. Yet, 9455 is noticeably stronger. As for Turner, Dr Hansjoerg Biener comments on my previous log: ``I was there too, but earlier. You should have heard what Hal Turner had to say in defence of President Trump's disinfectant injection ideas or rather his insulting politicians and anyone else who was not really understanding what the President said. When I first saw the press conference excerpt I was shocked that nobody of the medical experts stood up against it immediately. In Germany, remarks like these add to the view of a dysfunctional presidency and to fears that this will carry on for another term. I was rebuked on this group for getting off topic, but in my humble opinion the short wave listening hobby is not only about logging and verifying rare stations, measuring off frequencies or noting irregularities, but mainly and mostly about learning about cultural differences and reflecting about what you hear (Dr Hansjoerg Biener 1 May 2020)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1724 UT May 5
