Hauser
** ALBANIA [non]. 15770, Jan 28 at 2046, Radio Tirana relay by WRMI is
back here after change to 11580 yesterday only; S7-S8, ID and
`Cultural Activities`. Altho aimed at Europe, not me, 15770 was not
making it to UTwente a few minutes earlier, while 11580, 4+ MHz lower,
into the night, might have. The 0230 UT Jan 29 repeat JBA on 9395 here
but good via the KF2DA KiwiSDR in NY; see ARGENTINA (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** ANTARCTICA. 15476-, Jan 28 at 2050, JBA carrier slightly below
15476, typical of LRA36, so is it on without notice? But when I bring
up Pardinho, Brasil, SDR a few minutes later, no show. Harold Frodge
replies, ``Weak carrier only on the North Coast at 2101.`` --- does
that mean his home location of Midland, Michigan? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** ARGENTINA [non]. 9395, Jan 29 at 0215, RAE ATTW relay in English
via WRMI is as most of the time JBA, unusable, the winter night MUF
just too low, while it would be fine if on 5800 right after Spanish.
So I try some SDRs which might be getting it. No good in Pardinho,
Brasil, nor Bogota, Colombia. I thought it might make the latter off
the back of the 355 degree azimuth; then I try some eastern North
America Kiwis; still no good until I get far enough away to upstate
New York, that of KF2DA, and not too far off the boresight. Program is
about Daniel Barenboim who is appearing in Bs. As. Wrapping up but not
quite finished at 0230 when chopped off for switch to Radio Tirana IS
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 3365, Jan 28 at 2355, JBA carrier, R. Cultura de Araraquara
SP, which has been reported active lately. Then I see this on the WOR
iog from Dan Robinson:

``Being heard NOW 2330 via several Northeast U.S. SDRs, and
http://186.193.231.135:8073/
at S.B. Campo Brazil where the level is huge, as it is via Pardinho``

Too hard direct, too easy via Pardinho, hi. Listened for part of
semihour 0000+ without hearing an ID, news/talk, music, but off by
0032 UT.

Time is running out to DX this rarely active station: Karel Honzík,
Czechia had reported it as unID January 26/27, 2345-0005. I listened
to his clip and intonation certainly sounded Brazilian. Rudolf Grimm,
Brasil, replied on HCDX:

``Hi Karel, Radio Cultura 3365 kHz uses the 90 m signals on this time
each year, when the city's soccer team (FC Ferroviaria) plays the
annual state soccer championship. A strong signal was heard here in
São Bernardo (close to São Paulo) yesterday. The 90 m signal is kept
in the air only during the football match. The signal is then
deactivated. Also, the announcer informed on the air that Radio
Cultura de Araraquara at 790 kHz will be migrating to FM on January 30
(in a few days!). It is understood that the 90 meter signal will
probably also be able to close permanently on the same day. 73, Rudolf
Grimm, São Bernardo SP``

Then, Alan Pennington, UK, told the WOR iog: ``But AFE have another
match (at home) tomorrow, Wednesday 29th January (versus Sao Paulo),
kick-off at 2130 local time (2330 UTC)
http://ferroviariasa.com.br/
So will 3365 kHz be on air for that match also? But maybe on 90 metres
for the last time? 73, Alan Pennington, Caversham, UK``

That would be 0030 UT Thursday in the UT-3 local timezone in SP (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Jan 28 at 1554, RHC is undermodulated/distorted as it
has been lately here, whilst weaker // 15230 modulation is OK.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880 // 15370 // 15140, Jan 28 at 2113, in decreasing order
of signal quality, RHC in Brazuguese on all, rather than three
different languages, Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11850, Jan 28 at 2352, RHC is S9+30 but suptorted, just
barely modulated. Wiggle that patchcord; something`s always wrong at
RHC. 11950 has total dead air of S9+20, but it`s just warming up for
the 0000 `Mesa Redonda` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 27184.9-AM, Jan 28 at 2117, S9+10 of open carrier as some
local yocal is blocking this prime CB frequency; I had noticed same
yesterday on caradio, so deliberately checked it today (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. From 1800 UT Tue Jan 28, the Impeachment Trial of acting
president Drumpf resumes in the US Senate; today three OKC network
affiliates plug into it, KFOR NBC, KOCO ABC and KOKH Fox --- but KWTV
resumes local noon news --- and winter weather, rather than CBS. Not
sure if this was CBS` decision or not, but the Republicans stopped
today after only a couple hours, so everything except cable TV back to
normal (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 28 at 2344, VOT absent again from English to us,
which should not have concluded quite yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7190-LSB, Jan 28 at 0708, W6WWV on the Triple-H Net, asking
for check-ins; not many despite nationwide propagation, and turns it
over to other NCSs. Many calls heard, but they never explain what it`s
all about, in the middle of the night, so why should anyone want to
check in, stateside or abroad? Mentions WAS, maybe a clue. I search
out its website, which tells all about it:
http://www.hhhnet.net/
Yes, it issues WAS certificates; but don`t other clubs too?

The member roster has 975 entries, including more and more Silent
Keys, whose numbers have not been reassigned, but whose names and
calls have been deleted, non memoriam! In chrono order, fewer and
fewer new ones are added in last few years, two in `19, one in `18,
three in `17, six in `16...

Guess what: the only call I noted, W6WWV, is not on the roster. ARRL
lookup: BATTERMAN, DENNIS E, W6WWV, Dundee, OR 97115. Is he honouring
timesignals? Maybe he`s still working on WAS. And where does the HHH
name come from? Not explained but looking thru the roster I find at
least one -HHH, so is that the cause or effect? ``741. KA9HHH E Bob
Schiff IL Chicago 08/18/00`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 11720, Tue Jan 28 at 2103, VG signal S8+20/30 from VOA
Grimesland NC, during news, but dumps off air briefly at 2104, and
again longer, not back on until 2106 when rock music already playing;
2110 only program name is ``VOA One, with DJ Larry London``, outro of
Beyoncé and free-plugging her clotheslines.

Yesterday Monday Jan 27 I also checked during the one hour that VOA
``Greenville`` puts such a super signal back into deep North America,
when the show was `Soul Lounge`. So now I want to look up the
subtitles at least of this VOA hour each day of week. Tnx to the WOR
Hitlist, we go right to:
https://www.voanews.com/listen/schedule/voa-africa
date by date, but fails to show anything at 2100+ UT after News on the
hour! Not `Soul Lounge` on Monday, not `Music Time in Africa` on
Friday, both of which we know exist by our own ears.

No Soul Lounge to be found here either:
https://www.voanews.com/listen/programs
but searching on name, get some archived, ``latest episodes`` of
2016-2015-2014 as part of `Music Alley with Shawna Renee`. Bottom line
is that VOA scheduling is a mess; they don`t even know what they are
airing. BTW, today was not the first time the 11720 transmitter
crapped out (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, Jan 28 at 1551, WRMI is back on here with SMTV, VP
signal, so 11580 yesterday was a one-day test, or error? No info on
website about that. At 2025 I check UTwente, finding that 15770 is not
making it there at all; 7780 is sufficient, and 11580 might be if it
were on. See also ALBANIA [non]; ARGENTINA [non] (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** ALBANIA [non]. 11580, Jan 27 at 2049 check, Radio Tirana relay by
WRMI is indeed here from 2030 M-F, ex-15770, and should be generally
better received even if off the side from Okee (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CANADA. 6754-USB, Jan 27 at 2327 check, still no signal from CHR,
Trenton Military VOLMET (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 13650, Jan 27 at 2330, Chinese music is distorted,
as relay of CRI keeps on going here, even tho for months the
Portuguese hour has been nothing but fill music; checked here after
first hearing same music on 6100 direct from Beijing; 13650 atop CCI
from NHK which would be in Vietnamese at this hourpart. Something`s
always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 19, Jan 27 at 2200 UT, I check all the channels from
KAUT on my alternate TV still receiving thru an STB: 43-1 KAUT-DT;
43-2 CourtTV; 43-3 Cozi; 43-4 MYSTERY. My main TV set with its
built-in tuner demands rescanning rather than individual channel
adding or deleting, which I am loath to do since with my antenna at
any given time I cannot be sure all the ``local`` signals will be
strong enough to register; so was not aware of 43-4. Then I check
rabbitears.info and find they`ve got it wrong! As 43-3 CourtTV
Mystery; 43-4 COZI TV. What`s that channel about? Mostly sitcom
reruns, certainly nothing new; and I see it`s part of NBC Universal.
KAUT in turn is a sub of KFOR-TV, the NBC affiliate; coincidence?
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** PERU. 5980, Jan 27 at 2351, JBA carrier from R. Chaski under Cuban
jamming, until autocutoff at 2353:23.0*. Has it been a dekaday already
since my last timing? Jan 17 until 2353:42.5*, so that makes it easy
to compute the slippage, 1.95 seconds earlier per noctem, right on the
mark, their clock is so accurate (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 27 at 2328, another night off for VOT, as the
Ankarans have labored for nothing to North America since something`s
almost always wrong at Emirler. There is a JBA carrier slightly
off-frequency, i.e. PBS Xinjiang, EAST TURKISTAN (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2018 monitoring: confirmed Monday
January 27 from 1901.2 on IRRS via Saftica, Romania(?), VG via UTwente
SDR. Came on at *1856.5 carrier, 50-60 dBm; 1859.4 JIP Aida theme,
1900.5 IRRS sign-on and a few FSN headlines before WOR. Apparently
stayed on for the hour, as toward the end, Dan Roberts` SW Report
quoted and then played recording of anti-American commie propaganda
from RHC, but cut off incomplete for IRRS sign-off by 2000.

WOR 2018 also confirmed UT Tue Jan 28 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, JBA here
but good via UTwente SDR in Holland. Next:

0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. 4980, Jan 27 at 2329, JBA carrier, probably usual
Xinjiang PBS, East Turkistan and not WRMI which seemed to be back here
last night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also ALBANIA [non]

** U S A. 7490.2, Jan 27 at 2334 JBA carrier. WBCQ should not be
*that* weak, but the offfrequenciness points their way and nothing
else at all is scheduled now on 7490.0.

Consulting HFCC B-19 about 7490: WWCR has registered it at 09-12 in
addition to the non-wooden time it`s really in use 13-16 (12-15 when
DST start); WHRI has also registered 7490 at 0430-0600, but AFAIK has
never used it. WBCQ has it available at 1900-0400 only despite coming
up with Brother Scare at 1700 daily (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Unlike for the Democrats last week, the Big 4 broadcast TV
networks, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, checked at 1900 UT Jan 27, as seen via
their OKC affiliates, are all carrying live from the US Senate,
lawiars in Republican defense of acting president Drumpf. So now we
know where their biases lie, no such thing as Fairness. In addition to
same on PBS and usual cable networks MSNBC, CNN, CSPAN2 which have
carried everything from both sides; and this time Fox News too; but
not NewsMax which is about Impeachment, concern over Bolton, not live
coverage. I have never seen any of this on Spanish networks at random
chex, Univision, Unimas, Telemundo, Gala, for whom evidently this is
inconsequential, something for Anglos only?

Unknown when, but the OKC stations dump out of it in time for their
evening news blox, and do NOT resume as Prime Time begins at 0100 UT,
the commercial networks all staying in regular programming. So much
for P.T. advantage in persuading the Public.

At 0108 UT Jan 28, I do another MW bandscan to find any Dershowitz
like on cable TV, altho can`t be synchronized. Nothing except: as I
tune in to 820, WBAP is just turning him on within some talkshow, but
gone by 0117 recheck for a commercial. And one other: 1290 from
SSW/NNE, presumably my closest, KWFS Wichita Falls TX, but it`s not
heard either by 0117. Business as usual, almost (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 639, 891, 909 kHz, Jan 28 at 0107, not a full
Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, rather my 10-kHz domestic scan
looking for Impeachment coverage, finds obvious 1 kHz hets against
these channels, no doubt 891 Algeria, 909 UK, but what would 639 be?
Too many choices per WRTH: 500 kW from Cyprus, probably not on; 780
from Czechia, 430 from Spain; 400 from Iran, 100 from Oman, and some
medium-power Africans (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 0553 UT January 28

** BRAZIL. 6180, Jan 26 at 2242, S9+10/15 of open carrier, probably
RNA which is fully modulating on 11780. CRI/Cuba relay does not start
colliding until 0100; only other 6180 at this hour in Aoki is CRI
Kunming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 218-MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0728 UT, dash and RL, 975-watt ND
beacon at Red Lake, Ontario. Odd power, can`t make it to 1000?

245-MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0730 UT, dash and YZE, 1000-watt NDB at Gore
Bay, Ontario.

274-MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0740 UT, dash and YPM, 25-watt NDB at
Pikangikum, Ontario, per dxinfocentre.com one of those to be
decommissioned 2020-03-26. New one here, with only a bimonth to spare!
Where and what is Pikangikum? Ojibwe; all about it here:

``Pikangikum First Nation is located on Pikangikum Lake, approximately
100 km northwest of Red Lake, Ontario. It is approximately 15 minutes
by plane from Red Lake to Pikangikum.

Pikangikum is one of the largest First Nation communities in Northern
Ontario with the highest on-reserve population in Northern Ontario,
approximately 2,300. An estimated 75% of the population is under
twenty-five years of age...``
http://www.ifna.ca/article/pikangikum-116.asp

And here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikangikum_First_Nation

It`s near the NW corner of Ontario, across from Berens River, Manitoba
whence I heard another NDB lately. BTW, in CST/CDT timezone, far
enough west for that even in ON, i.e. beyond Meridian 90.

The beacon band is really hot tonight, something virtually every kHz,
or even two at a time. See also USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 6977-USB, Sun Jan 26 at 2215, CFARS net (like MARS), NCS
``CW509`` in Winnipeg taking check-ins by segments in the 600s, then
700s, such as CW602, CW716. Gives them signal reports as received in
Wpg. Sure sounds like they are saying ``CW###`` but must really be
CIW### with the ``I`` swallowed, as in my Nov 27 log on 6961-USB at
2232. Where are these stations; a roster available? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CANADA. 15034-USB, Jan 27 at 1505, no signal from CHR, Trenton
Military, even tho 14670-CHU is in well. I`ve just realised that CHR
has not been encountered lately in random bandscanning. I leave a
radio on 15034 and still nothing heard by 1542. Nor at 1838 check.
I`ve not been clear about an hourly pattern for CHR, but it has not
been continuous. EiBi shows 1010-2400 with no breaks. No more ``no
report received`` to be heard? Nor have I heard it on 6754-USB upon
occasional nighttime tunebys. Further chex needed. So totally off,
temporarily, or forever? That would save a lot of commuting expense
for the announcer it shares with Gander! Hi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11860 & 11930, Jan 26 at 2220, pulse jamming against nothing
by this hour, but intermittently overlain atop the leisurely pulses
are some very fast pulses, approx. 10 per second, I had not noticed
before on these. Did not check whether they were synchronized (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Jan 27 at 1839, RHC Spanish is overmodulated /
distorted; something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRELAND. 13264-USB, Jan 27 at 1508, VOLMET YL voice JBA, S1-S2;
strange mixture of English and metric measures; 1810 ``Shannon
VOLMET`` ID and forecast for Dublin. EiBi shows this at 1200-1800 only
altho not shared with any other station (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SCOTLAND [non]. 7490.055v, UT Mon Jan 27 at 0110, `Encore`
classical music via WBCQ in well enough to hear on SW, but
unfortunately simulscheduled with new episodes of `Dr Who` on BBC
America; not to mention `The Simpsons` on Fox if they ever get back
with newies; and tonight the Grammy Awards which interest me zero even
tho they probably include token mentions of classical.

BTW, some weeks ago I was complaining that WBCQ webcasts were
overmodulated/distorted. I finally noticed that the preamp slider on
my Winamp equalizer was set full bore +12; I normally don`t fiddle
with EQ and unknown how it got that way, but that was the problem,
even tho WBCQ sounded worse than some others played (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 9281.6v, Jan 26 at 2224 extremely distorted squealyspur of
broadcaster, so on second radio I look for // from the nearby/stronger
signals on band: Not // 9350, 9395, 9455, 9565 -- but finally at 2236
I get a match of modulation peaks and pauses with 9690 REE!, 408.4 kHz
away, after listening to the mess for some 4 minutes. Equally above
that would be around 10099, possibly a JBA signal there (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 269-MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0732 UT, ND beacon BEX, which is 25
watts from Bloomfield, Iowa; I was tuned to 267-USB. Where is that?
Just south of Ottumwa, in the SE.

281-MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0741 UT, ND beacon DMO, 25 watts at Sedalia,
Missouri.

420-MCW kHz, Jan 27 at 0742, ND beacon PK, 25 watts from Olathe -
Herbb, Kansas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also CANADA

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2018 monitoring: confirmed Sunday January 26
at 2130 on WRMI 7780, very poor here on portable PL-880.

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 27 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, VG via UTwente
SDR.

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 27 at 0230 here on WRMI 9395, JBA S2-S3,
much better on 7780 S9-S8. Also #2018 confirmed on WRN NAm webcast.

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 27 at 0400 on Area 51 webcast, while via
WBCQ 5130 at 0425 check it`s poor S7-S9+10 peaks.

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 27 at 0430 on WRMI 9955, JBA carrier under
pulse jamming; but good with no jamming audible at Bogotá KiwiSDR.
Next:

[7290 reception varies hugely at UTwente: sometimes VG, sometimes JBA
if at all, such as when checked Jan 26; fingers crossed for today:]

1901 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? to WNW

0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB

** U S A. 4980, Jan 27 at 0718, JBA music, maybe WRMI test? Normally
would be nothing here since WRMI dropped frequency several weeks ago
and then was only on until 0200. This is more like 5800 used to be
with far less than full power. Richard Langley, NB, had just reported
on 4980, Jan 27 at 0315: ``Checking a few frequencies when terminating
recording on 7780 kHz, I noticed religious music and English talk on
4980 kHz. WRMI back on this frequency?``

11580, Jan 27 at 1512, WRMI reactivated here with SMTV about vegan
diets, S9+10, and nothing on 15770, presumably replacing that --- a
very good idea propagation-wise as 15770 is usually JBA here altho off
the side of the 44 degree Euward beam, so is 11580 too? At 1840, still
no 15770, but 11580 is only S8 and just barely modulated.

Ivo Ivanov already assumes 11580 be a 100% replacement for 15770,
WRMI-9 at 1200-2300. (I noted 15770 was still on yesterday after
2200.) I.e. including the secret WORLD OF RADIO airing Saturday at
1300. Altho ``updated Jan 26``, the WRMI skedgrid as of 17 UT Jan 27
still shows nothing about 4980 or 11580! Nor is there anything recent
from WRMI on disgraced FB.

SMTV plugged their website for more info, so is 11580 given now at
https://suprememastertv.com/en1/worldwide/
Of course not, still 15770 and other WRMI frequencies with no specific
time schedules! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 1090, Jan 27 at 0700 UT, after legal ID, KAAY
Little Rock AR right into a string of PSAs all the way until 0703.5
another ID and only one sesquiminute of ToH dead air until gospel
music fires at 0705. Meanwhile could only make out XEAU TV infomercial
in Spanish, and the 1089 UK het (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13927-USB, Jan 26 at 2209, US military contacts on what
used to be an active trans-con MARS? frequency. Tactical or abbr`d
call 7KO? mentioned. A flight requests ``weather update for our
destination, KSWF - Stewart``. Had to spell KSWF several times
fonetikaly. Contact JBA. Another ID of one station or another sounds
like ``McCall 70`` -- or McCaw?

``Stewart International Airport, officially New York Stewart
International Airport, is a public/military airport in Orange County,
New York, United States. It is in the southern Hudson Valley, west of
Newburgh, and southwest of Poughkeepsie, approximately 60 miles north
of Manhattan, New York City. Wikipedia``

BTW, these airport designators starting with K are not the same as FCC
callsigns for broadcasters, nor coordinated with them. NRC AM Log
shows KSWF is not assigned to any station; but WTFDA FMdb shows KSWF
on 100.5 in Aurora, Missouri, unrelated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ANGUILLA. 11775, Jan 26 at 1553, dead air at S4-S5, longer than a
DGS cigar-puff; presumably warming up for Sunday service, only S4-S5
and some pulse jamming bleeding under from somewhere (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9540-9588, Jan 25 at 2333, pulse jamming centred on 9565 is
splattering out to this range, as the Cubans don`t give a damn about
collateral damage, pariahs on the HF bands. Something`s always wrong
at the incompetent DentroCuban Jamming Command (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 13604, 13673 S9, 13807 S9+10, 13875, 13942 JBA but 14009 a
bit stronger and inside the ham band, Jan 25 at 2344, RHC-FM spurs out
of 13740-AM, with F# tone, approx. 67-kHz intervals. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13559, 13630, 13770, 13840, 13910 approx., Jan 26 at 1524,
RHC spurblobs with especially distorted audio unlistenable in any
mode, unlike fundamental 13700-AM; 70-kHz intervals today. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15700, Jan 26 at 1549, CRI relay in English is S9+20 but
undermodulated; sufficient once volume turned up, but beware the
loudness of the next frequency. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Jan 26 at 1550, RHC music is distorted while // but
weaker 15230 mod is OK. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** MALI. 7295, Jan 25 at 2327, Chinese dialog S9+25; tough luck for
Region 2 hAMs who favour this frequency area in their 40 mb. It`s
Bamako relaying CRI at 23-24, their last transmission of the day. Even
without antennas designed for N America, this could be a good
replacement for defunct(?) Albanian relays; don`t give them ideas,
Glenn.

BTW, this same hour, HFCC has imaginary wooden registrations on 7295
for Russia and Indonesia! Hey Jeff, why don`t you clean out all this
nonsense? Are certain admins so vain as to make such claims season
after season hoping no one will notice? Yet real stations from many
countries not buying into HFCC are overlooked (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NICARAGUA [non?]. 8989-USB, Jan 25 at 2329, S8 Spanish sermon about
Cristo, the Predicador an hour later than usually reported; breaks
into song just to be sure no one can mistake him for legit aero comms
in their band (GLenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 25 at 2321, VOT English to N America is silent
again; thus unlikely to be any 0000 German either vs Mighty Farty KBC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, UT Sun Jan 26 at 0119, theatre organ music starts on
WTWW-2 after a long string of ham news adding up to variable lengths,
so woe betide any precise scheduling to follow, like on WA0RCR. I
quickly switch to stereo webcast. No intro or name of program given,
and Bob Heil does not speak until 0127; 0148 wrapping up before ``real
music``, still no name for program since is no longer in the Ozarx,
and ``Mister Sandman`` until 0151.5 switch to the real (rock) music.
Oh2, must be replay of last week`s show concluding with same
deprecating remark and tune, but which started circa 0100. Frankly,
altho I do enjoy theater organ music, after a while it all begins to
sound alike, especially in the rather limited repertory he plays
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9475, Jan 26 at 1555, WTWW-1 rarely active is on because
it`s Sunday morning, non-PPPP preacher? refers to off-topic Hong Kong
schools being closed, so maybe current, rather than a decade old SFAW
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5970, Jan 26 at 0727, WEWN is in Spanish, rather than last
night`s anomaly of English. Some QRM from jamming spreadleaking out of

UNIDENTIFIED. 5454-USB, Jan 25 at 2319, 2-way conversation in Spanish,

at 1230-1745 per HFCC, Vividh Bharati at 1245-1740 per EiBi and
VU2JOS, 1245-1745 per Aoki, but unlikely to be so far off? altho no
sign of it on exact frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

spurblobs out of 13700-AM. No intelligible programodulation except a
trace of music & talk on 13769. If they are going to spray all over
the band, least they could do would be to make them listenable in the
FM mode. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH. 1566, Jan 25 at 1348, JBA carrier looping NW, so FEBC
Jeju again seems no longer to be making beamswitch by 1345 from
Japanese to Chinese; is there no longer a language change either?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SCOTLAND [non]. 9350, Sat Jan 25 at 2145, usual VG non-squealy
signal from this WWCR during `Encore` classical music hour from Radio
Tumbril. Playlist for 25/1 is already up:
https://www.tumbril.co.uk/playlists
Now must be the Paul Hillier, penultimately. Otherwise occupied now,
I`ll try to catch the full hour repeat UT Monday at 0100-0200 on WBCQ
when surely I will have to hear 7490v via webcast only (Glenn Hauser,

** U S A. 7341-USB, Sat Jan 25 at 1517 obviously a Civil Air Patrol
net from the colourful tactical calls, checkins seemingly managed by
YL NCS Starfish 39, but does not always give own call, rather trying
to copy and utter calls of others, often unsuccessful without a relay
even when I can hear them; such as: Tornado 41, Red Cloud 13, Bluebird
29, etc., etc. Up against 7340-AM RHC, but so weak here not a problem,
altho could be further east and/or south. By their prefixes, these
four must respectively emit from Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and
Missouri, but individual call identities are surely top-secret. Each
transmission ends with auto-beep, no overing required.

BTW, the paramilitary CAP has been recruiting in the Enid area:

Strangely enough, nothing is said in this long article about playing
radio. I think unlike MARS, you don`t have to be a ham for starters

** U S A. John Carver replies to my WBCQ 7490v AAAWWW report Jan 25:

``Glenn, In reference to your comment about the novelty tune before
AAWWW started. That originated with TimTron and is played when there
is a problem with his internet feed connecting. I don't know how it is
triggered as if his feed isn't connecting he can't send anything. At
any rate it is a snippet of some sort of ethnic music folk song done
by a youngish female that Tim has slowed down to sound as it does.
Could be Hungarian or Gypsy or something. At any rate it's quite
familiar to listeners of Area 51.

Several years ago I heard it played one time at normal speed on Area
51 and immediately recognized it. I wrote to Larry Will and asked
about it. He replied with the story behind it and gave me a Wiki link
to the story behind the tune and if I remember correctly it contained
a link to the actual tune at normal speed. When I was finally able to
boot the computer today I did a search through the headers of every
message Larry has sent me since sometime in 2010 and couldn't find it
based upon the subjects listed in the headers. I'm sure it's in there
and someday I will go through and read every damn message but not till
it's warmer in here. If you're really curious I suppose you could ask
Larry Will if he remembers.

Sorry I could only give you a partial answer. I so wanted to send you
the Wiki link so you could read it and possibly listen to the
original. John`` Try searching on keywords like Hungarian, Gypsy,
ethnic (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5970, Jan 25 at 0644, surprised to hear WEWN in English
instead of Spanish --- not a momentary translation, but discussion of
RCC politix. Earlier at 0224 I had a very weak signal on 5970, but
could not be sure it were WEWN at all. What about 9385 which is
supposed to be the overnight English channel? NO signal at 0645, but
could be on and not propagating.

So is this another mistake, or a major change? WEWN SW is so
insignificant that it`s hard to find anything about it on the EWTN
website. But from our WOR Hitlist we get:

a program sked which will not load:
https://www.ewtn.com/radio/download/Shortwave_Grid.pdf

This one
https://www.ewtn.com/radio/frequency-guide
is all in English including the Cuba/Latin America 12050 and 5970
frequencies, so looking at this you would never know they were ever in
Spanish!

For B-19, until March 29, 2020, it shows 15610 at 1900-2400 and 9385
at 0000-0900 both for W&CAf at 85 degrees and Beijing at 335 degrees:
note, these are not 180 degrees opposite, so one transmitter split
into two antennas, or two transmitters? Does the BJ beam apply only to
9385 hours? That is ambiguous as displayed. Latest HFCC as of Jan 20
shows both 00-09 9385 and 19-24 15610 on African 85-degree azimuth
only; 12050 at 14-24 on 155 degrees, splitting difference between the
claimed 150 and 160 on 5970. It also shows 11520 at 00-09 but we know
that`s imaginary, alternative to 9385 but which was used in A-19. 9470
is also listed at 09-14, only this one really aimed toward China,
prime time there but is it more propagable? and which Ivo has been
observing as AWOL, not appearing on WEWN`s own schedule.

The true azimuth of Beijing from Vandiver is more like 344 degrees!
But 335 does cross eastern China, if the signal last over a very long
and difficult near-polar path, which no one setting up a SW station in
Alabama should have considered viable. In fact, I think reaching Asia
from there was an afterthought, not an original target.

To Cuba/Latin America, 160 degrees at 00-14 on 5970; at 14-24, 150
degrees at 14-24. What`s the point of a 10-degree difference in
azimuth?

150 is aimed to eastern Cuba and across S America exiting near Porto
Alegre, Brasil.

160 is aimed to western Cuba and across the Andes, exiting S America
between Mar del Plata and Bahia Blanca, Argentina.

So has 12050 switched to English too as implied on the sked? It`s JBA
Jan 25 at 1744 check, can`t tell language. Well audible at Bogotá SDR
and yes, still in Spanish with rote rosary. Never mind JC; Do Mary or
God ever tire of hearing that? Why not? Do they monitor RCM in
particular for self-gratification, or avoid it? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. Jan 25 from 15 to 17 UT, I can`t help but notice that the
big four commercial TV broadcast networx, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, as
via their OKC affiliates, are all broadcasting live the Republican
side of the Trump Trial --- which they were NOT doing the previous
days from the Democrats! Leaving that who-cares to PBS and cable
networx. Not in daytime and certainly not in primetime! We shall see
what happen on Monday daytime when acting president Drumpf`s liars get
down to business. Of course, regular network programming on Saturday
mornings is more dispensable, mostly E/I stuff for kids and nature
enthusiasts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Sigh - another typo correxion to one of the frequencies:
783, of course, not 782; fixed:

Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Jan 25 at

with some audio, singing, probably BBC Wales. (2) = at least two
carriers beating (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6990-LSB, Jan 25 at 1437, 2-way net in language,
sometimes melodic, maybe Indonesian, like we used to hear when
11.4-11.5 MHz propagated; this frequency was also occupied at earlier
times by a closer performer with prolonged aaaahhhhhs, guessing
Japanese as last reported a year ago in
http://w4uvh.net/dxld1903.txt
Also heard a bit of that this time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
