Glenn Hauser logs July 9-10, 2020 |

Friday, July 10 2020
** CHINA. 12500 & 11100, July 9 at 1411, only CNR1 jammers, JBA and presumed, none others found in the WOOB 10s, 11s, 12s or 13s. Likely many more were around before 1400* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11631 & 11709, July 10 at 0218, a new set of S9 RHC spurblobs! plus and minus 39 kHz from 11670, which is S9+20 and distorted. F# tones also audible on fundamental and spurs, like in the mornings circa 13700; had also heard them circa 15370 afternoon, evidently all same transmitter, but the offset quite different here. Also a trace of second-order with F# circa 11748 and third, 11787, but could not be sure of a minus match on 11592. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. 6185-, July 9 at 0628, XEPPM, off-frequency-minus at S9-S7, and more modulation than usual after JBA carrier yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA. 7254.9, July 9 at 0627, VON is back on nominal channel today after excursion to 11769.9 yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6945-AM, July 10 at 0240 rock music, S9 including heavy storm noise level; YL ID sounds like ``You are tuned to ---- dot.com``; another at 0254 and music stops by 0300*. Many reports here https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,69271.0.html as Mix Radio International from 0035, but none later than 0202 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ROMANIA. 9700, July 9 at 0226, jazz on VG S9+10/20 signal from what? Not NZ this early, still on much weaker 13840 with someething else. Answer at 0229 ID: RRI in Spanish, and then found //7375 almost as good (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 28284.8-CW, July 9 at 1449, VVV N9TNY/B EN51, relog of Geneva IL beacon, slow WPM and long pause between iterations. So Geneva already has a SW station before any WPBC. 28286.5-CW, July 9 at 1455, WB0BIN, beacon alternating fast and slower WPMs. WJ5O roster shows: ``28.2865 WBØBIN C SABIN, MINNESOTA # 7W, GP VERTICAL New 22 April 18`` --- Sabin is just SE of Moorhead-Fargo. QRZ.com: ``WB0BIN USA flag USA, ROBERT T DABLOW, 251 MAIN ST, SABIN, MN 56580 10-20-2019 - THE WB0BIN BEACON IS BACK ON THE AIR AFTER BEING OFF SINCE JUNE WHEN A BAD STORM WENT THROUGH SABIN WITH STREIGHT LINE WINDS IN EXCESS OF 80MPH AND DAMAGED THE ANTENNA. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9955, July 9 at 1417, WRMI is on with algo in Spanish, off by 1443 recheck; contrary to own schedule showing WRMI-3 goes beyond 1400 only on weekends, and the webcast carries Freedom Synergy Radio M-F at 1400-1500. I suppose that could have been partially in Spanish, altho when we first monitored it evenings, it kept stuck to English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15610, July 9 at 2125 check, WEWN English is still AWOL for at least the sixth day in a row; ditto the night frequency 9385 at 0225 July 10 check. A few summers ago absence was explained due to mowing the antenna farm, but that should hardly take a week, and Spanish remains active on 12050/5970 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2042) This report dispatched at 0454 UT July 10

Thursday, July 09 2020
** BOLIVIA. 5935, July 8 at 2358, no trace of Radio Yura, and WWCR is not on yet. That idiot***, SHN in Denmark, had reported it active to HCDX from *2240 July 6 via remote in Brasil. Followed by Claudio Galaz in Chile: ``5935. R. YURA. July 7. 0030-0054 UT. Woman talks and music. 24232, File: https://archive.org/details/152170070743 (Claudio Galaz, Receptor: TECSUN PL - 660; Antenna: Long Wire; QTH: Ovalle, Chile)``
It`s a 55 second clip, horrible reception, I can`t understand anything, let alone an ID, sounds distorted, and with buzz noise level. ***I would never be so rude as to call any fellow DXer an idiot, unless he has already called me one --- for objecting to Cuban jamming including vs my own program (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL. 9664.86v, July 8 at 2346, weak signal with Brazilian talk and hymn, ``He Will Take Care of Me``, so RVM is active again and on the minus side of nominal 9665 instead of plus or doubleplus (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL. 11780, July 8 at 2352, RNA is S7/S9+5 but seriously suptorted. // 6180 not distorted and about as strong but noisier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [non]. Radio Martí is still on the air as usual July 9 at 0008, tho I can`t vouch for program content, 5980, 6030, 7335, 7365 and DRM 7345, all in well at TWR Bonaire and without any jamming audible there. Siempre contigo, Radio y Televisión Martí.`` How vague. Richard Langley asks, what about 1180? I don`t know how it normally makes it to Bonaire SDR, but at 0150 check, not // RM on SW, presumably only hearing the Rebelde jammer pileup, so maybe Marathon be off. No, the TWR Key West SDR is hearing them both at 0155 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** IRELAND [non]. 7290, July 8 at 1800, another anomaly check of IRRS, ITALY [non] via BULGARIA, via UTwente SDR: Aïda and quick sign-on, right into `Life Matters`, anti-abortion far-Christian show. But the Wednesday schedule on nexus-iba website claims instead `Hope for Today`, so it`s out of date, even more so still showing `War Room Pandemic` at 1700, cancelled a couple months ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA [and non]. 11770, since it appeared earlier July 8 for the 0600 VON broadcast, I wonder if it be on for the scheduled evening transmissions, or instead one of the other channels? At 1907, no reception here. At 1930 I tune UTwente SDR, to find 7255 occupied by Türkish from CRI Kunming site, CHINA; 9690 occupied by SPAIN with no het; but something very weak about 11769.9 vs huge splash from 11775 CRI German via Kashgar, EAST TURKISTAN. Checking Kiwi SDRs, there are only two in the entire continent of Africa, both in RSA, and TWR one tuned has no reception on 11770. However, the closest S American one in Pernambuco does get a weak African signal on 11769.9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, Wed July 8 at 2200, VOT English to North America is on today, and I`m listening via UTwente SDR where reception is VG after timesignal 2 seconds delayed as heard here, but there is a humwhine, continuous except for one brief break. Alan Roe had reported that the `Letterbox` had finally resumed after a long COVID-19 break, when he heard it on the real 1230 broadcast on 15450, but not the exact time, so I keep listening and note a bunch of different features before it, starting with news on a variety of subjects, and then: 2210 Turkish Press; 2212 Foreign Press; 2214 Turkey leads in aromatic plants; 2217 Today in History; 2219 Ephesus; 2222-2240 Letterbox program, ``been a long time``. Usual announcer very informal and seemingly opening letters for the first time, from: Stu Forsyth in NZ; China; Stefan Korona, Sweden; Pakistan; UAE-Sharjah; Moscow; Pakistan; UK; Japan; Brasil; Montgomery/Chicago? USA; Brasil; Malaysia. ``Next L`box in a week, goodbye.`` I did not check 9830 for direct reception here until 2246, when I found it poor S6-S9 with music. As Alan Roe outpoints, ``It seems that some normality is returning to the English service of Voice of Turkey. The programme today (Wednesday 8 July) heard at 1230 UT on 15450 kHz included the first edition of the Letterbox Programme for many weeks. The announcer acknowledged that this was the first edition following the impact of the global coronavirus pandemic in Turkey. I had heard Letterbox on Wednesdays back in February, so it looks like this is the confirmed day for the programme. I still need to confirm, however, whether or not Letterbox is repeated in its old slot on Saturdays. Alan Roe, Teddington, UK`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Sporadic E MUFs easily exceed 28 MHz around the continent, but not 88 MHz, so I settle again for these 10m hambeacons, July 8 at 2057-2114, 60% relogs, info from WJ5O roster, not exactly measured here but seem correct. For the two new ones, adding QRZ.com info. I often have to listen to many repeats to get a definite ID as they tend to fade out during it; and do not spend even more time to try to copy the whole spiels: 28281, July 8 at 2057, DE W8EH, i.e.: ``28.281 W8EH C MIDDLETOWN OHIO # 8W, GP VERTICAL`` 28284.8, July 8 at 2058, VVV N9TNY/B, i.e. ``28.2848 N9TNY C GENEVA, ILLINOIS # 5W VERTICAL New 21 May 2020`` 28298.3, July 8 at 2059, VVV VVV DE WC5W/B, i.e. ``28.2983 WC5W C MACY, INDIANA # 5W, VERTICAL NEW 16 June 2020`` ``WC5W USA flag USA DWIGHT HAMMOND, MACY, IN 46951`` 29254.5, July 8 at 2103, VVV VVV DE K4JEE/B, i.e.: ``28.2545 K4JEE C LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY # 5W, VERTICAL New 6 Nov 11`` I had a hard time copying the EE, two little dits, but this fits. ``K4JEE USA flag USA, RONALD G LARDNER, LOUISVILLE, KY 40216. As of Nov.7th 2011 I put up a 10 meter beacon. Using a ID-O-MATIC at 15 WPM. The frequency is 28.254.5. Rig is a Radio Shack HTX-100 running 25 watts. Antenna is cushcraft 10 meter vertical at about 35 feet. If you would like a QSL no S.A.S.E. is necessary State side but I do require one out of the U.S.A. Time and date and signal of beacon as well as the frequency. Thank You And 73's Ron`` 28297, July 8 at 2112, dits and DE NS9RC, i.e.: ``28.297 NS9RC C HIGHLAND PARK, ILLINOIS # 5W, VERTICAL QTH Change 30 May 17`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2041 monitoring: confirmed Wed July 8 from 2100:21 on WBCQ 7490.03, JBA here; at 2125 check, fair at Alexandria SDR, better at Rochester. Also confirmed UT Thu July 9 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, VG at UTwente SDR where it`s aimed. Hellooo to all our listners at 2, 3 or 4 am in Europe. Next WOR 2042 should be ready by early UT Friday July 10 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 12050, July 8 at 2355, R Católica Mundial QSY announcement to 5970 and Salve Regina IS chant; 5970 is up with same by 2359. But they could overlap, admittedly two different transmitters. What about: WEWN English, however, still absent from 15610 in the afternoon, and from 9385 at 0129 July 9 check: just as well, since it`s within one of my local noise blobs. Does anyone know what the problem is or whether they have given up on English after drastically reducing it months ago from the original 24/7? I hurried to get this report out before LRA36 closed in case others could hear it, but:
Reception had improved by 1555, no QRM and modulation OK, mostly readable; extended again past 1600, OM announcer breaks into song briefly at 1607; 1614 another song and ``un abrazo grande`` from YL; final credits briefly and song until 1615, off? Not quite, back with a bit more music until plugpull at 1615.7* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. Or a mistake? This is normally its evening channel only. HOA-type music at tune in; 0558 IS of drum and flutish; 0600 first spoken word is ``Nigeria``.
