Glenn Hauser logs February 20-21, 2020 |

![Hauser](http://www.hard-core-dx.com/images/hcdx/wor.gif) ** CHINA. 7255, Feb 21 at 1337, Russian discussion mentioning some Chinese names. Chances are high that any Russian heard on SW will be from CRI --- certainly not from Russia! --- and indeed this is, an hour via Shijiazhuang site, 500 kW at 37 degrees, thUSward (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 15369.23, Feb 20 at 2340, JBA carrier as RHC continues way off-frequency for the tenth day; VP propagation now, but earlier in afternoon normally inbooms. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ERITREA. 7140, Feb 21 at 0426, constant JBA carrier, presumed VOBME but nothing on their other frequency 7180 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GERMANY [non]. 15215, Feb 21 at 1608 tune-in to yearly Radio Öömrang broadcast via FRANCE --- discussion mostly in Frisian, some high German, and brief intros in English at 1626 and 1628. Longer outro in English at 1658 with contact info and credits, and to be heard again on 21 Feb 2021; 1659:30 to open carrier and off 1700*. First checked on home receiver, then on remotes in eastern USA, with VG reception. I was distracted during closing but did not hear a mention of the DRM repeat supposedly 48 hours later same frequency and time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 640, Feb 21 at 1319 UT and still 1330, dead air from KWPN Moore, as happens frequently; vs fast SAH and CCI probably led by KFI, which without KWPN at night would have a clear shot into OK (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SAO TOME. 7255.0, Feb 21 at 0427, uncertain African language S9-S7, 0429 mbira song, 0430 hilife music. This hour is VOA Zimbabwe service a.k.a. Studio 7, mixture of Shona, Ndebele and a little English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TAIWAN [non]. 9490, Feb 21 at 0106, no signal from Issoudun, and maybe no jamming either yet; tho registered to start at 0100 with RMI programming, i.e. Radio República --- but I think that only apply once CubAmerican DST be in effect from March 9. Checking because RTI has publicized that it will experiment with revived Spanish broadcasts UT Feb 23-26 at 0100-0130 on 9490, site not specified but surely FRANCE. And again at 0300-0330 on 9500, because jamming and R.R. will still be on 9490 at that time. Voluntarily picking a frequency ever subject to Cuban jamming is foolish, as it may well extend beyond the ``necessary`` hours [see TURKEY]. Sure enough at 0157 recheck, jamming is already running on 9490, and the ISS carrier cuts on just in time at *0159:39, but any programming to follow is inaudible under jamming. Propagation from Europe is degraded anyway now, K-index 4 at 0300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 20 at 2346, VOT English made it on air today, but now wrapping up with canned totally wrong A-19 English schedule, as I have previously explained in detail; which usually plays at sign-on. Something`s always awkward at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 6125, Feb 21 at 0400, Cuban noise jamming against Radio Martí is still running altho RM has just closed this frequency as always (and no longer separate TV Martí soundtrack, right?). Cannot detect VOT English to western N America as scheduled, until 0405 starts to become audible under jamming but unusable. No better at 0435, still heavy jamming atop VOT music(?). This is absolutely self-defeating, of all possible frequencies picking one right next timewise to Cuban jamming; could be on 6120 or 6130 both of which are open tho also adjacent frequency-wise. Plenty of other open spaces on band. I also wonder if 6125 VOT transmission be as erratic as 5960 one five hours earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7178-LSB, Feb 21 at 1342, net in unknown language, mostly strong signals, repeatedly discussing marijuana; occasional bits of English; one guy with a rather melodic tone and prolonged vowels. One call until 1351 sounds like KH0I#, last letter not clear. KH0`s are in Saipan and Guam per ARRL lookup, but I think these are closer. Still going at 1459 in contact with N4KH, VA6RB, and K0ADI? N4KH is SPIKES JR, JAMES B, HUNTSVILLE, AL 35803-2095. VA6RB is Roldan Gloria Bartolome, CALGARY, AB T3M 0S3 Canada K0ADI is KITTLEMAN, ROD A, NIXA, MO 65714 At first I was guessing the language could be Indonesian? Or Tagalog? Now I wonder if Chamorro, or a language around here, Marshallese. Online searches for a net at this time on this frequency are unsuccessful. Anyone know what this is? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2022 contents: Australia, Brasil, Canada, China and non, Cuba and non, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Korea North & South, Kuwait, Madagascar, Malaysia, North America, Oklahoma, Papua New Guinea, Sarawak non, Taiwan and non, Turkey, UK, USA, Vanuatu; and the propagation outlook WOR 2022 is available as of 0224 UT Friday February 21 (mp3 stream) http://www.w4uvh.net/wor2022.m3u (mp3 download) http://www.w4uvh.net/wor2022.mp3 Or via http://www.worldofradio.com/audiomid.html Also linx to podcast services. You never know (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Feb 21 from 0340: 531, 549, 558(2), 585, 612, 639, 693(2), 711, 747, 774(3? with audio from Spain synchros), 837, 891, 936, 999, 1125, 1152, 1215(2), 1305. Rather surprised to find a ``normal`` situation as K-index at 0300 was 4 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 2097.3, Feb 21 at 0627 and 1320 chex, single-letter beacon A is on and audible every ten seconds (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1854 UT February 21

![Hauser](http://www.hard-core-dx.com/images/hcdx/wor.gif) ** BRAZIL. 9666.012v, Feb 19 at 2310, Voz Missionária S6-S8 with song presumably praiseworthy and then at 2313, ID in English! Claiming frequencies are 9665, 5940 and 11750 from RVM Radio. Tnx for the English, but they are woefully misinformed: NEVER on 9665 exactly nor 5940 --- It`s always off-minus, but now a JBA carrier in huge BS splash from 5935 WWCR. And hasn`t been on 11750 for YEARS. It was already deleted from WRTH 2018, maybe earlier. 11750 now occupied only by RHC 11760 splash (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11760, Feb 19 at 1921, RHC is S9 of dead air. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 9535, Feb 19 at 2323, RHC is S9 of dead air; while 9640 is OK. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. 6185.703V, Feb 19 at 0433, XEPPM is S9+10/20 and just barely modulated; someone had reported no modulation at all, which it might as well be, totally useless (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 960, Feb 9 at 1900 UT, quick ToH ID from KGWA Enid, putting insignificant 100.9 translator first, and ``from the Ladusau-Evans studios`` --- what?? KGWA has sold naming rights of their studio to a local mortuary --- either that or they have axually moved into the funeral home. How apropos, just in time for deadbeat Fox ``News`` and Rush. BTW someone from Williams Broadcasting is presenting a CCTV seminar February 21 at 1930-2030 UT in the campus building of NWOSU Enid on entrepreneurship (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. ``Brad, Something very strange last night on 90.1, for at least half an hour before and after 1 a.m. --- Brazilian popular music, no announcements (tho I may have missed something at top of hour), nice but certainly not classical WCPE --- was KUCO plugged into a wrong satellite feed? Back to classical when I awoke briefly and checked at 5:45. Regards, Glenn Hauser, Enid`` That`s about KUCO, 0700 and 1145 UT Feb 19; asking manager Brad Ferguson about it, he replies: ``Hi Glenn, WCPE went into their emergency log last night, so something failed somewhere in their chain. We have an emergency log too, but it's classical. Go figure! BF`` Strange. This shows nothing out of ordinary around 2 am ET: https://theclassicalstation.org/playing_wed.shtml (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 19 at 2319 and 2348 chex, another night with NO signal from VOT English to us. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 417 kHz, Feb 19 at 0728 UT, ND beacon copied several times as ``dit-dit, dit-dit-dah-dah``. That second one is not a letter in our alfabet, but in the Russian as that ``yu`` letter looking like a conjoined IO. Looking at the dxinfocenter and classaxe references on 417 and vicinity, I think it must be 25-watt IY in Charles City, Iowa, which I have copied several times before, but now miskeyed just one dah off from Y, which is dah-dit-dah-dah (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 420 kHz, Feb 19 at 0730, ND beacons FQ and PK mixing; and when tuned to 418-USB I hear only FQ. Both 25 watts, FQ is in Fairmont, Minnesota, and PK is Olathe - Herbb, Kansas. BTW, I don`t try to report signal strength of NDBs as they are almost always JBA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5332-CW, Feb 19 at 0436, CQ DE KI5AL K with several repetitions, seems slowly hand-keyed, easy copy. I never can remember the exact discrete frequencies forming the so-called ``60 meter`` hamband, but this must be one of them. ARRL.org shows Jett, Herbert A, KI5AL, Seguin, TX 78155. And his profile at https://www.qrz.com/lookup/ki5al shows he is 74, a ham less than a year and only started CW a few months ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 13852.062, Feb 19 at 1502, JBA spur from something, can it be RHC? NO, I barely make a match with Radio Martí audio on 13820, which is VG and well above the jamming. However there is a bit of jamming splat out to here. This is nothing like the RHC spurs which are huge distorted blobs --- not today! --- but rather a very weak signal with OK modulation. OCB Grimesland is showing Bauta how to make spurs! Then I go looking for more and sure do find them: this one is 32.062 kHz plus 13820, so how about minus? There it is: 13787.942 measured independently which would be minus 32.058 kHz, close enough. These are axually second order, since I then find plus and minus ~16 kHz, and multiples of that, not measured precisely: 13836, 13868, 13884, 13900; and 13804, 13772, 13756, 13740. At 1552 I do measure one of them:; 13836.026. 13852 etc., Feb 19 at 1920 recheck, JBA spur carriers still detectable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2021 monitoring: couldn`t check Wed Feb 19 at 2100 on WRMI 7780 or 2200 on WBCQ 7490v; anybody hear them? Confirmed UT Thu Feb 20 at 0100 on WRMI 7780 -- only poor via UTwente SDR. WOR 2022 should be ready by early UT Feb 21: http://www.worldofradio.com/audiomid.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15770, Feb 19 at 1913, poor signal from SMTV via WRMI, only once, no echo, during list of languages utilized. 5800 not echoing either circa 2320 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 11644.2-USB, Feb 19 at 1620, weak 2-way in colloquial Spanish, INTRUDERS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0200 UT February 20, 2020

Wednesday, February 19 2020
![Hauser](http://www.hard-core-dx.com/images/hcdx/wor.gif) ** ALGERIA [and non]. My cardio tunes only in 10-kHz steps, so no serious TA/TP DXing, but certain frequencies suffer 1-kHz hets, from obvious sources, Feb 18 at 0045 UT: 530, 550, 890: Algeria on 531, 549, 891; and 1000: from 999 likely Spain (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. 388-MCW kHz, Feb 18 at 0730 UT, dash and MM, 500-watt ND Beacon at Fort McMurray, Alberta. It`s a surprisingly large town, so far into the sub-Arctic northeast outback, over 66K population; due to the oil boom, but on the decline since a fire. 2475 km from here = 1538 statute miles (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15369.2, Feb 18 at 2307, JBA carrier, day 8 for RHC off-frequency, but bad propagation; MUF must be about 13 MHz, as 13740 is also JBA carrier, yet undermodulated 11850 and distorted 11760 and Portuguese 11700 are at normal biglevels. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NEWFOUNDLAND. 2598-USB, Feb 18 at 0711, Roboyl with marine weather in English, too weak vs noise level, once again before any are scheduled on the CCG site, VCP Placentia via St. Lawrence not until *0737 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Monday afternoon Feb 17 at 1930-1940 UT, while finding nothing interesting on parked caradio MW bandscan, I decide to check how many stations are overtly anti-American, broadcasting that despicable hate-monger and stupid cigar-smoker Rush Limbaugh; no IDs but I will add obvious connexions: 710-KGNC, 740-KRMG, 820-WBAP, 960-KGWA, 1000-KTOK, 1030-KBUF or KFAY JBA, 1150-KSAL, 1230-WBBZ, 1290-KWFS, 1330-KNSS. Only ten! Could be worse if he were on at night; when C2CAM can be found all over the dial, seldom synchronized, plus SW 6070 CFRX (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** PERU. 5980, Feb 18 at 2351, JBA carrier from Radio Chaski vs wall-of-noise Cuban jamming not against any Marti at this hour, until autocutoff at 2352:40*, which is 10.5 seconds earlier than last check 5 days ago, Feb 13 until 2350.5*, i.e. averaging 2.1 seconds earlier each night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 18 at 2301 and still 2344, no signal from VOT English to us; something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 7290-LSB, Feb 18 at 1940, the ``72-90 Traffic Net`` based in TX but also check-ins from OK; vs a constant AM carrier but too weak to copy even on USB-only, presumably IRRS via Saftica, Romania; which via UTwente is inboooming with `Wavescan` Tuesday at 1930, like WOR Mondays at 1901 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15770, Feb 17 at 1933, SMTV via WRMI, and SMTV via WRMI echoing one second later, double-audio feed, which has happened before; makes it even more unlistenable than usual --- obviously nohuman at Okeechobee nor SMTV HQ is monitoring the final output product. So why should we? *Still* echoing a dodekahour later, Feb 18 at 0723 but now about 8 seconds delayed --- hard to track with all the self-QRM, at close to same modulation level. *Still* echoing exactly 24 hours after first noted, Feb 18 at 1934 on 15770, even harder to outfigure until 1943 I upbring a bettersig via UTwente, about 18 seconds apart! Just as they are reciting their extensive schedule mentioning 15770 to Africa(? not Europe?). How can a worldwide multi-platform broadcast make itself so boring? The basic ethos of animal rights and vegan diets should go over well with the enlightened, but multi-lingual bits on no reliable pattern, often heavily accented when in English, and cultish devotion to their Supreme Master are major turn-offs. I can`t remember anyone ever submitting a monitoring report of SMTV dealing with its content over any significant span. Kai Ludwig has pointed out this in Wikipedia: ``Apparently "religious broadcasting worldwide" would be a subject worth professional research again, after three decades have passed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ching_Hai_(spiritual_leader) Already a number of interesting-looking references in hobby research on this Taiwan-based cult`` Believe it or not, SMTV is mentioned only once in passing on that page, as if it`s an insignificant part of her empire. And there are 63 footnote reference linx, many in Chinese, not Vietnamese. By 2034 Feb 18, I am on the caradio like 25 hours earlier, where I get much better reception of 15770 aimed NE so off the side here to the NW, on the 2-foot antenna, than on home rig with 100-foot longwire. Now Radio Tirana English relay is loud and clear, no echo. 5800, before 2300 Feb 18, during music not obviously doublefeed, but 2300 talk is again echoing about one second later. However, by 2345 during interminable recitation of cable TV or DTV suchannel outlets, state by state, no echo (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 5040, Feb 18 at 0728, VP S5-S7 trace of talk, presumed R. Vanuatu now that Cuba is off. Before 0630 it`s on 7260, so far untraced here but bears surveillance (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0032 UT February 19

Glenn Hauser logs Feb +16-17, 2020 |

Tuesday, February 18 2020
![Hauser](http://www.hard-core-dx.com/images/hcdx/wor.gif) ** CUBA. 15369.22, Feb 16 at 2248, RHC Spanish distorted at S9+20. Altho not checked yesterday, this should make the sixth day in a row of such offfrequenciness. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 9329.237, Feb 17 at 0715, Spy number station bigsig is way off-frequency (and WBCQ apparently finished testing at 0500). Note how closely its offset matches that of 15370-minus RHC as heard now for seven days in the afternoons; same transmitter? Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba. Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria, also caught the offset: ``NUMBERS STATION Cuban Spy HM01 on very odd freqs 9329.2 & 9064.2 kHz, February 17: 0700-0720 9329.2 BEJ 050 kW / Eu/Am Spanish Sun/Mon/Wed/Fri, not 9330 0730-0750 9329.2 BEJ 050 kW / Eu/Am Spanish Sun/Mon/Wed/Fri, not 9330 0800-0850 9064.2 BEJ 050 kW / Eu/Am Spanish Sun/Mon/Wed/Fri, not 9065 NO SIGNAL 9330.0 BCQ 250 kW / 270 deg WBCQ-6,test was till 05 UT from 0900 on nominal 9240, but from 1000 on very odd 9154.2`` Does this also infect many other HM01 broadcasts? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15369.234, Feb 17 at 2134, RHC distorted Brazuguese still way off-frequency for seventh day in a row; usual // 11880 is missing, and 15140 is already off. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7340-7345-7350, Feb 16 at 2224, DRM noise continues from Grimesland, presumably still Radio Martí only, at S9+20, while RM is nearby in AM stronger, 7355 S9+40 and 7375 S9+30, both well over jamming. No jamming detected vs DRM, but it might be hard to tell them apart by sound rather than disrupting decoding. The DRM-capable listenership in Cuba must be minuscule (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2021 monitoring: confirmed Sunday February 16 at 2130 on WRMI 7780, fair on the portable PL-880. Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 17 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, good S9, as always cutting off Bob Zanotti who tries to squeeze in another ID just prior. Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 17 at 0230 via UTwente SDR, VG on WRMI 7780, fair on 9395; and also coincidentally on WRN webcast. Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 17 at 0400 on WBCQ-6 9330.0, while testing with // 5130 Area 51 programming, VG here direct, and also checked some KiwiSDRs: VG to Marahau, New Zealand, but inaudible to one in Australia; nor heard in Japan; not good in Colombia, but good at Pardinho, Brasil. VG at Rockport, Maine, surprisingly, supposedly too close for skywave, but too far for groundwave? Maybe not with that much power, or backscatter: 256 km = 159 stmi from Monticello, on the south-central coast beyond Bangor. Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 17 at 0430 on WRMI 9955: JBA in Colombia where 9955 is usually VG, but much further away, VG in São Paulo with no jamming audible. Rockport ME starts mixed with jamming but by 0443 under pulse jamming. Not checked Mon 1901 on IRRS 7290; did anyone hear it? Next: 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330.0, Feb 16 at 2227, WBCQ-6, first noted with carrier at 1917, now testing // 7490+ WBCQ programming, this hour being `Marion`s Attic`, much better than we ever get it on 7490. Seemed to stay with this audio source, including `Encore` classical music amid hour at 0129 UT Mon Feb 17 check, only S8-S9; and TOMBS at various times after 0200. That block ends at 0400, and just as I dared to hope, then switched to // 5130 Area 51, just in time for WORLD OF RADIO! q.v. Wish they had to ``test`` more often. By Monday afternoon, Feb 17, Arabic from World`s Last Chance Radio is back (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9395, Feb 16 at 2230, WRMI not in RAE Italian, scheduled this hour M-F on System G, but an oldie, ``The Men in My Little Girl`s Life``; 2233 IDs by BB and JW, ``remembering generations of great music`` says Bob and more of it. Does not axually call this on air ``Oldies``. Skedgrid shows on Sat & Sun, and // 7780, Oldies at 2200-2230 but `Walking in Power` at 2230 = no-show. I wondered if like RAE Spanish, Italian would also repeat on weekends (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. re: ``414 kHz, Feb 15 at 0732, ND beacon SD, which is 40 watts from Sioux City, Iowa; was tuned to 412-USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)`` HI Glenn - I'm thinking, unless something has changed up there, that beacon ID should be "SU". Near Salix IA, there has been an NDB there for a long time called "Salix", IDing as SU (the Airport and Vortac are SUX). It is/was the LOM for Rwy 31 at Sioux City Gateway, the scene of the famous United Flight 232 landing years ago. 73, - rb`` Yes, thanks to Rick Barton, AZ; I did log it as SU, made typo in reporting it (Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** U S A [non]. Correxion: Radio Coro is in Venezuela, not Cuba! 780, Feb 16 at 0814 UT, I happen to awaken, too late or in time for the KKOH Reno 50 kW ND DX test starting at 0800? I get a good null on WBBM, but nothing heard except Spanish music. Others say this was Radio Coro, Venezuela, and KKOH did test, but when did it stop? Shux (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 840, Feb 17 at 0331 UT, WHAS KY is off, so now the station which must be nulled is KVJY in the RGV, Spanish gospel music from the south. KVJY can normally be heard in WHAS null and/or QRMing it. I listen carefully for the next quarter-hour but hear only traces of somethings else; expect CMHW Cuba to be the main one, indeed some other talk in Spanish at 0344; and at 0340 could almost imagine it was Kriyol language, i.e. 4VEH Haiti. Many tnx to Chris Gay, for more than an hour`s advance notice to the WOR iog, which I soon forwarded to the major MW groups: ``840 WHAS Louisville says they will go off the air "for a short time" for tower maintenance at 10:30 PM ET Sunday (Feb. 16). Chris KU4A``. Some others monitored the free-of-WHAS hole until it resumed at 0435 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0022 UT February 18
