Glenn Hauser logs March 22, 2022  View Printable Version
Tuesday, March 22 2022

Logs
** BOTSWANA. 15730.302, March 22 at 1915, JBA carrier with flutter,
way off-frequency. Only thing scheduled is VOA in French until 1930
when Grimesland takes over (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 17585, March 22 at 1435, Chinese S7/S9 with flutter, the
SSOB by far with only a few JBA carriers elsewhere on 16m. It`s CNR1
jammer // 9660, this hour only against VOA Tibetan via Biblis,
GERMANY. Propagtionally, this would need to be from western ``China``,
such as East Turkistan, ChiCom-occupied ``Xinjiang`` in order to be
effective into ChiCom-occupied Tibet, a single hop away over partial
daypath (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13740, March 22 at 1438, S9+10 of dead air, obviously RHC,
supposedly running until 1500; while 13700 is only S9 and
undermodulated; also fails to produce any spurs circa 65-70 kHz above
and below, none heard in several weeks. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, March 22 at 1920, S9/S7 of humbuzz, obviously RHC but
no programming, off at 1921*. Maybe a test. Aoki guesses 11760 is in a
break 1800-2200; EiBi, 1800-2100. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PHILIPPINES [and non]. 9856 approx., March 22 at 1456, extremely
distorted FMish talk, signature of parasitic spurblob from a nearby
frequency. With a second receiver I quickly match modulation peaks to
clear 9800, which is VOA Korean via Tinang! Further confirming this is
a matching spurblob about 56 kHz below on the other side, 9744 approx.
All three are off by 1500, but a weaker signal remains on 9800, i.e.
Nippon no Kaze in Korean via TAIWAN. Tinang aims 21 degrees toward
Korea which carries on well into deep North America, fundamentally or
otherwise (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** RUSSIA [non]. 9370, March 22 at 1934, R. Svoboda relay is S9+8 into
Izhevsk, Russia SDR, somewhat overmodulated distorted; also
splattering at least 9350-9390 by 1957; at first a bit of `clatter`
jamming? But its own defectivity from ARMENIA? is the main obstacle.
Even worse into UTwente, S9+30 and same splatter range; off at 2000*
after ID and almost starting another hour. We`re still awaiting news
of more transmissions funded by Shortwaves for Freedom (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11815.722, March 22 at 1448, TRT again way off-frequency
hetting weaker Japan 11815.0, and no Turkish modulation audible.
Wolfgang Büschel puts it at 11815.721 at 1414 today; and Ivo Ivanov
11815.7 from 1400 presumably until 1655. Zach Liangas, Greece says
11815.72 is correct at 1609.

My independent measurement yesterday 24 hours ago was 11815.737. I
admit that my last digits may be slightly approximate. Various other
TRT frequencies are inexact but not as far off, so are they
deliberately mistuning this one day after day? Something`s always
erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13565 CW, March 22 at 1437, HIFER beacon K6FRC is JBA from
Patterson CA, allegedly only 1.8 milliwatts; today no sign a sesquikHz
lower of YSO Yellow Springs OH: that one is normally too close for
skip without a little help from the sporadic E: 795 statute miles =
1279 km; while K6FRC is 1283 stmi = 2065 km (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK,
WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2130 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday March
22 at 0030 on WRMIs: 9395 & 9455 both S9+25 into Missouri remote,
indistinguishable in strength and modulation; unlike a previous
comparison into an east-coast remote, when 9455 was extremely
inferior; what changed? And this time no fading down by 0058, still
VG. OTOH, more diversity is called for. Next:

2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

woradio at yahoo.com

One may also contribute by MO or check in US$ on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, USA (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [non]. 9455, March 22 at 1504, weak fluttery signal must not
be WRMI, since it`s much stronger on nearby 9395 with same nominal
parameters. Otherwise on 9455 at this hour: CRI Chinese via Kunming.
Not unusual for 9455 WRMI-5 to be partially missing from 24/7 on the
grid (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, March 22 at 1506, WLCR gospel huxter in English via
WBCQ is only poor S3/S6. How can this be with 500 kW? Axually HFCC
registered as only 250 kW, 300 degrees toward W Canada at 14-16. But
Bulgarian DX blog:

``USA WLC Radio changes on 9330 kHz via Monticello, March 17
0300-0557 on 9330 BCQ 250 kW / 250 deg to CNAm English
0600-0655 on 9330 BCQ 250 kW / 225 deg to ENAm English
0700-0757 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 057 deg to SPAI Spanish
0800-0857 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 057 deg to GERM German
0900-0957 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 057 deg to FRAN French
1000-1057 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 057 deg to U.K. English
1100-1157 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 190 deg to NSAm Spanish
1200-1355 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 220 deg to CeAm Spanish

1400-2155 on 9330 BCQ 250 kW / 256 deg to WCAN English

2200-2257 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 190 deg to NSAm Spanish
2300-0255 on 9330 BCQ 500 kW / 170 deg to BRAS Portuguese
Публикувано от Observer в 1:11 PM``

Same situation at 1925 recheck, 9330 only VP S2/S4; yet closest other
SW station, 9265v WINB is S9/S6. 256 degrees is close to our angle
from Monticello and certainly all south of the border; so the weak
signal is still unexplained (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15450, March 22 from 1657 past 1730, no signal into
UTwente or Kuwait SDR. An unnamed broadcast in Persian was supposed to
test at this time and date, per Ivo Ivanov on March 3:
``New clandestine broadcast is registered in B-21 HFCC Database via
TDF Issoudun
1700-1730 on 15450 ISS 150 kW / 088 deg to WeAs Persian eff. from
March 22 via WRMI Broker --- Публикувано от Observer в 4:45 PM``

Despite RMI in HFCC, Jeff White told me it`s not WRMI-brokered.

Then Ivo said the date for it was March 20, but I did not see that in
time, nor did anyone? check for it. That`s also in HFCC dated 12 Mar
as applying to 20 March only, not with RMI:

``15450 1700 1730 40 ISS 150 88 0 217
1234567 200322 200322 D 17400 Fas F TDF TDF 11203``

Wolfgang Buschel replies:
``What? but in A-22 RMI requested via TDF FMO?
15450 1600 1630 40 ISS 150 88 0 217
1234567 270322 291022 Farsi F RMI TDF 4389 Ir``

Current RMI skekgrid as of March 22 dated March 13 does not show
anything on 15450 or for Iran via TDF.

Note: March 22 is significant in Iran, date DST starts associated with
equinox = Nowruz = New Year 1401 of March 20, UT +4.5 instead of +3.5,
accounting for 1700/1600 UT change of so far unconfirmed, imaginary,
unattributed broadcast (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15610, March 22 at 1914, no signal from 250 kW WEWN which is
supposed to start English at 1900; yet pennywhistle 15555 USB WJHR is
audible from nearby. What would Mother Angelica say? (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9940, March 22 at 1922, classic rock at S9+10/20 from
WTWW-2, more active lately on this frequency. No others checked are on
air now: 9475, 5830, 5085 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

TURKEY. 12035.034, March 21 at 1417, VOT VP S5/S7 and off-frequency
as usual, toward end of 1330 English to Europe, and NAm beyond. In A22
from March 27 shall QSY to 15450v and earlify an hour to start at
1230, unlikely propagating any better. Something's always erroneous at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

TURKEY [and non]. 11815.737, March 21 at 1442, carrier making big
het with 11815.0 Japanese, NHK. TRT Turkish has been colliding here
for years at 14-15 in B seasons, but much further off-frequency than
usual. Something's always erroneous at Emirler. Can't make out any
modulation on it. In A-22 the 13-16 Turkish broadcast moves to 9840v.
Ivo Ivanov also noticed TRT today on "11815.7" (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 11540, March 21 at 1433, Turkish music jammer at
S9/+10 and can't tell if Dengê Welat victim be under it, but nothing
on alternate 11530 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** CHINA. 13130, March 21 at 1359 Chinese S9 with flutter until
timesignal and off 1400*. Just in time heard JBA carrier of another
CNR1 jammer on 13020; but 13530 was already off (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. 12120, March 21 at 1416, Chinese from CNR1 jammer,
S9+10/20 and // weaker one on 9660. Blows away the RTTY always on
12120 which EiBi says is NAU US Navy Puerto Rico STANAG but this is
not STANAG noise. Axual target this hour is VOA Chinese via
Philippines, hardly audible; while 9660 vs R. Taiwan International
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 9900, March 21 at 2245, Cairo is already off, and not nearby
either; rather, echoing Chinese talk from double CNR1 jamming against
Taiwan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 12000, March 21 at 0557, RHC English with jazzy music S7/S8 =
2 x 6000 where it`s S9+20, and overmodulated/distorted on both. No
signs of 2 x other 49ms, 6060, 6100 or 6165, on 12120, 12200, 12330,
but always check for them. Aoki shows 6000 as Quivicán site, the
others Bauta. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. Correcting one time: English from 2115, not 2315:

9884.803v, March 20 at 2112, here we go again, R. Cairo on
yet another frequency, in B21 for French until 2115, S9+30 totally
distorted music into UTwente. Maybe about to move for totally
distorted English from 2115? Was 9909.8 yesterday, ex 9899.8 before
that. So it pays to tune around the area. However, at 2202 recheck now
it`s on 9899.802, S9+40. At 2353, more than an hour after English
would have finished, now it`s polluting 9909.951. Probably off circa
2400 like yesterday. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9899.8, March 21 at 2158, S9/+10 direct of distorted music,
2200 trace of timesignal, classic R. Cairo news theme, unreadable when
talking. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, March 21 at 1517, ``island music`` S5-S7
into BC remote, got to be SIBC running all-night; still past 1600 with
no ID break; next check 1627 faded to JBA, carrier offset -2v Hz. WRTH
and Aoki show SIBC break at 1200-1900; EiBi 1203-1900 except irr.
music at 1203-1500 only. LSR at remote approx. 1445 UT. This is well
after Ron Howard`s usual monitoring span until 1300 or so; he commonly
hears it as much as 6 hours earlier over full darkness path (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 12030 > 11940 > 9690 > 11685, March 21 at 2314, REE token
English on M/W/F, in decreasing order of strength and readability, the
NAm channel of 9690 ranking a poor third behind ME and SAm beams as
received direct here via indoor longwire during storm. An Amy Egan
feature about literature? From next week 17855 ex-9690 with quite
different propagatory challenges, and at 2200 ex-2300 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** TURKEY.
Something`s always erroneous at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 11815.737, March 21 at 1442, carrier making big
het with 11815.0 Japanese, NHK. TRT Turkish has been colliding here
for years at 14-15 in B seasons, but much further off-frequency than
usual. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. Can`t make out any
modulation on it. In A-22 the 13-16 Turkish broadcast moves to 9840v.
Ivo Ivanov also noticed TRT today on ``11815.7`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 11540, March 21 at 1433, Turkish music jammer at
S9/+10 and can`t tell if Dengê Welat victim be under it, but nothing
on alternate 11530 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13563.5 CW, March 21 at 1403, HIFER beacon YSO from, where
else, Yellow Springs, Ohio, JBA and had to strain at least a minute
for certain copy; vs CODAR and meanwhile no K6FRC on 13565 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. 9550.045, March 21 at 0603, VOA news in English,
S5/S7. Of course it`s SAO TOME E PRINCIPE site which can`t make
accurate frequencies (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2130 monitoring: confirmed UT
Monday March 21 at 0258 the 0230 on WRN North America webcast: from
next week should be at 0130.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 21 from 0301:28 on Area 51 via WBCQ
6160 minus 56 Hz = 6159.944, into Missouri SDR, but heavy ACI from
6165 RHC so need LSB or SAL mode to minimize it. If RHC be back on
6165 to stay for the next octomonth, everything on 6160 is in for a
bad spell: at least toward the east, RHC also suffers from WBCQ ACI.
Operating two nearby stations 5 kHz apart is asking for trouble and
would be avoided by competent frequency management: but Cuba refuses
to participate in HFCC, and once on a frequency, WBCQ heavily resists
any moving. After A-22 settles in, there should be a better spot for
WBCQ on 49m at night, if not 24/7. Next:

0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to NNW
2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?]
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 9455 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

UNIDENTIFIED. 21280 USB, March 31 at 1935-1947+, TA ham working
pileups of N American east-coasters. They NEVER utter the DX call,
only their own until they finally if ever break thru the pileup. His
signal relatively weak, and doesn`t give his call often either. Once I
thought I heard OH0##, which would be the off-Finnish radio country of
Åland Island, but soon checking DX clusters can`t find any reports of
that or anything similar on this frequency. What frustration. Excuse
me, but I would not consider a ham contact complete unless each
station utter at least once, both calls. Is that too much to ask?
