Glenn Hauser logs March 28-29, 2020  View Printable Version
Sunday, March 29 2020

Hauser
** CANADA [and non]. Some NOTB NDBs are still making it thru the wall
of storm noise from Nebraska eastward:

340-MCW kHz, March 28 at 0612 UT, dash and YY, which is 500 watts from
Mont-Joli, Quebec [still off: my local EI on 341].

351-MCW kHz, March 28 at 0617 UT, very tough copy amid storm crashes
and QRM from the differently-pitched USA mashup of LI Little Rock, and
IN International Falls; but there is a dash and seems like YDK --- but
there is no YDK on this or any frequency. Only listee on 351 is
500-watt YKQ in Fort Rupert -- Waskaganish, Quebec, also heard before.
I suppose the shattered Morse code I tried to copy could have been
that. Fits in with the other QC signals I am getting.

366-MCW kHz, March 28 at 0621 UT, dash and YMW, 500 watts from
Maniwaki, Quebec.

382-MCW kHz, March 28 at 0622 UT, dash and YPL, 1000 watts from Pickle
Lake, Ontario -- nice to hear one completely in the clear (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 1845-LSB, March 28 at 0642-0645+ UT, VY2ZM calling CQ
contest over and over with little response. Would you believe he`s the
only phone signal I hear now on the entire 160m band? Normally if
there`s a contest, and only then, the band is crammed. QRZ.com shows:

``VY2ZM Canada
Jeffrey T. Briggs
12958 NORTHSIDE RD - RTE 16
MONTICELLO, PE C0A 2B0
Canada

VY2ZM was established in 2001 in Eastern Kings County, Prince Edward
Island, Atlantic Canada. Please QSL via direct to EA7HBC only. VY2ZM
operates in many of the major contests, but specializes in lowband
operations with state of the art antennas. The various 160M contests
are my favorites, eg: ARRL 160, CQ160, etc. As of summer 2015, VY2ZM
operates using the following complement of antennas: 160
- 4el full-sized phased 2 x 2 vertical array producing 8db of gain in
6 patterns
- Inverted Vee Dipole NE/SW at 100 feet
- Flat Top Dipole 145 feet North/South

Please check out my website at
http://www.vy2zm.com
for additional information about the station- thanks, Please give us a
call during the various contests...thanks! 73 JEFF K1ZM/VY2ZM``

https://www.qrz.com/lookup/vy2zm
He`s also pushing a book about 160m DXing (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 711.00, March 29 at 0041 just before sunset here, that
presumed off-frequency Radio Rebelde carrier is still making a big het
against 710 stations such as KCMO. Something`s always wrong at
RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 5005, March 28 at 0513, thought I might catch
presumed RNGE turning on transmitter, but already JBA carrier at
tune-in (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. 5009.934, March 28 at *0247, making one last check for
WRMI, at first nothing, then this JBA carrier: I may have caught RNM
just turning on transmitter, typical offset (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 6185, March 28 at 0521, still no signal from XEPPM, or
anything else at this hour. Still off early UT March 29. Hope Mexico`s
last SW station is not gone for good; but they have had a lot of
problems with this, from lack of modulation to offfrequenciness;
clearly their lowest priority behind FM and AM (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1520, March 28 at 0627 UT tune-in, C&W music is
overriding QRP KOKC OKC talk, unusual. By 1600 watt night power and
proximity, #1 suspect is KRHW Sikeston MO, but if the NRC AM Log
format info still be oll korrect, unlikely with all the churn since
August, there are several other C&W formatted in USA: AL, IL, IN, MI,
another MI; some of them daytimers, but that`s no obstacle. There may
have been an ID or announcement between tunes at 0629, but fade of
course, nor can I get a DF bearing on it. Also possible, the
unpredictable 25 kW daytimer, KYND in TX (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ROMANIA. 7375, March 29 at 0346, RRI English ID and headlines? Poor
via Peoria KiwiSDR, new A-20 0300 time and frequency, not audible on
// 9850 to us or 11825 to Asia (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, March 28 at 2325, VOT makes it on the air,
still on B-season frequency and hour for English to us, poor. By A-20
tomorrow to be at 2200 on 9830, perhaps again vs RTTY QRM from NAU
PR.

9515, March 29 at 0305 & 0320, no signal yet from VOT`s A-20 frequency
for English to us an hour earlier, ex-6125 at 0400. Greece or
something on 9420 is detectable. Nor 9515 audible at UTwente. Maybe
not until tomorrow. RM and jamming are already off 6125, replaced by
5980 until 0300. Finally at 0400 checking UTwente for 6125, no VOT
either at old B-19 scheduling.

However, Jon Collins in Birmingham UK was hearing the Asian frequency
already on new A-20 schedule March 29 at 0317 UT: ``I`m listening to
the Voice of Turkey in English from 0300 UT on 7275 kHz at excellent
reception, strongest station I`ve heard. Tecsun PL-660, whip
antenna``. 9515 maybe on but above MUF (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13565-CW, March 28 at 1418, HIFER beacon K6FRC in much
stronger than usual, soon fades down; probably HF sporadic E (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2027 monitoring: confirmed our
trimulcast, UT Sat Mar 28 at 0130 on WRMI 5010, poor and fading; 7780
fair; 5850 very good S9+20/30.

Tnx to Richard Langley for confirming reactivated airing Sat Mar 28 at
1130 on WRMI: ``9955 kHz fading in and out way up here in NB but
confirmed. -- Richard Langley``

And tnx to Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria for the next as I still slept thru:

Glenn Hauser logs March 27-28, 2020  View Printable Version
Saturday, March 28 2020

Hauser
** CANADA [and non]. 346-MCW kHz, March 27 at 0619 UT, dash and YXL,
500 watt ND beacon from Sioux Lookout, Ontario, not unusual but now
about the only Canadian making it vs the high storm noise level. Also
audible, 332-MCW kHz, IC, 400 watts from wIChita KS, tuned to 330-USB
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** COLOMBIA. 2940.036 kHz, March 27 at 0608 UT, JBA carrier. The 2-3
MHz band is a vast wasteland with hardly any signals except WWV and
the intermittent Canadian CG weather stations on 2598 & 2749. It would
be a great place to alleviate the packed MWBC range 530-1710 kHz! It`s
remarkable how seldom one hears any US harmonix from there.

But I keep bandscanning almost every night, and still detect an AM
carrier always offset plus from 2940 --- previously identified, and no
doubt still, the second harmonic of 5 kW 1470, Radio Huellas, Cali; or
rather the fundamental must be 1470.018. The harmonic is a bit
stronger than usual tonight but no match for the heavy storm noise
level (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13575, 13637, 13764, 13828, 13892 approx., March 27 at 1406,
FM/AM spurblobs with F# tones out of RHC 13700, this time multiples of
about 63-64 kHz. First noted on 13637 at S9+10. Other fundamental,
unrelated 13780, is still on at S9+30 but undermodulated. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 5005, March 27 at 0547, JBA carrier, almost gone
by 0605. Presumed RNGE Bata reactivated after more than three months,
last heard by Manuel Méhdez, Spain on December 21. Tnx to tip from Ron
Howard via the WOR iogroup:

``Hi Manuel, March 26 - Checking 5005, from 0548+; heard a definite
signal; assume RNGE/R. Bata on the air again; sounded to be in Spanish
and some music; very poor reception. Wish I had caught this earlier,
when they might have had better reception. Perhaps you can check on
this and give us a definite confirmation? Thank you for all the
reports you have provided in the past regarding this station! Most
helpful. Ron California``, WORLD OF RADIO 2027

Its old schedule was roughly *0515/1700*. Manuel replies:

``GUINEA ECUATORIAL, 5005, Radio Nacional, Bata, 0530-0555, 27-03.
Thank you very much to Ron Howard for the yesterday news about the
reactivation of this station. Today here in Lugo only carrier
detected. Unfortunately I can't check it from Friol where conditions
are better than in Lugo. Via SDR remote receivers in Pardinho, Brazil
and in Central Europe, only carrier detected as in Lugo. We will
continue checking next days. Best 73,s`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PUERTO RICO [non]. 18160-USB, March 27 at 2120, one signal is
propagating on this band, Spanish with deep fades, IDs as KP4AKB
without fonetix and eventually with, so certain. At 2124 he`s working
unheard WB7JB in Washington state; gives name as Edwin, in Columbus
OH. Huh? Prop from PR would be unexpected, way above F2 MUF, and too
far for sporadic E unless double-hop, also a rarity. Explained at

https://www.qrz.com/lookup/kp4akb ---

``KP4AKB USA flag EDWIN RIOS, COLUMBUS, OH 43220-4120 USA

My call is KP4AKB/W8 --- I was first licensed as a novice and my call
was WP4AKB in Ponce, Puerto Rico. That license expired after 1 year.
After obtaining my General Class in 1957 my call changed from "W" to
"K". In 1962 I came to Dayton, Ohio to study. Since then I have
operated as Portable W8. The FCC no longer requires US stations sign
as "portable". That is why my call appears as "KP4". Nowadays the
number and prefix may not relate to where the station is located. I
hope this clears up any confusion as to where I am located. Ed Rios
Columbus, OH USA

[caption] Antenna at KP4AKB. US Tower 55 ft with a 17 ft mast. Top
antenna is a 40m EAntenna 3 ele with a modified 4 ele SteppIR on a 24
ft boom just below. Transceiver is a Icom 7800 driving a Tokyo
Hi-Power 2.5Kfx``

And CLUBLOG displayed on his page axually shows the station I heard
him working, WB7JB. So this must be a short single-hop sporadic E
opening from OH to OK, correlating with the WJHR log a few minutes
earlier; tho I did not get around to checking the DX MAP Es MUF (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 11720, Friday March 27 at 2100 after YDD runup, VOA News,
the anchor ``reporting by remote``, with AP and Reuters voicers; 2102
already optional cutaway for all those affiliates believing that two
minutes of news is plenty! 3 minutes more for the rest of us until
2105 `Music Time in Africa` starts. Heather is as Hyper as ever, but
admits she is producing from ``portable home studio``, causing format
changes, but one could not tell the difference. She mentions Corona
Virus and later reports on how it has messed up music tours, such as
someone who had to try three different air carriers to get back from
Europe to Bamako, buying a ticket on one after another (no refunds?).
So at least we know this is new, not another repeat from November.

I make a point of listening to most of it, since it`s our last chance
until B-20 --- maybe --- as for A-20 this Grimesland reverse
supersignal is abandoned, back to Botswana on 15580 during this hour.
And this airing is still unknown to Heather herself, or some other
announcer promoting MTIA times, even webcasts! (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2027 monitoring: confirmed first
USSWBC, Friday March 27 at 2200 on WRMI 9955; at first battling the
jamming but soon overcoming, fading up while jam fades down or away,

** U S A. (5130), UT Sat March 28 at 0000-0100, I partially listen to
WBCQ webcast during AAAWWW --- it`s little but a monolog by Allan
talking about CV and trying to sound optimistic, no news about WBCQ
technical or programmation. 0100 into ``Tie me kangaroo down, sport``,
which is quite an improvement over Hal Turner had I been on the 7490
stream. 0104 into some Latin music, Pérez Prado? but what program is
this? 0107: `Zombo`s Record Party`, into an interview. But sked shows
`Matt Boland Presents` ?? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15555-USB, March 27 at 2104, good signal from WJHR gospel
huxter, peaking S7; HF sporadic E enhancement? No such improvement
from extremely more powerful neighbor 15610 WEWN, JBA S3-S5. Have not
logged WJHR since January 9! Has it been off and/or just not
propagating with its peanut-power? This is the perfect excuse for me
to quote, just in from Terry Krueger, now living near to WJHR:

``All times/dates GMT, Niceville, FL (except mobile logs)
IC-R75, NRD-535, ICF-7600GR, active loop, random wire

15555 usb. FLORIDA. WJHR, Milton. 1515 3/13/20. Ventured to Milton,
specifically to 5920 Oak Manor Drive this day. A drive into a very
rural, "private property" series of narrow roads with
heavily-forested, large property homes. Got to the driveway of the
large house where WJHR is. The antenna wasn't even visible due to the
massive long-leaf pines and live oak trees. From the distance, the
garage doors were open, so someone (George S. Mock?) was presumably
home. Yet, we did not proceed. This looked like a place where you'd be
met by shotgun blasts and a series of attack dogs unleashed.

Earlier in the week, I called the phone number listed in the WRTH 2020
to inquire about visiting. It dropped to a fax. Then I emailed the
address listed. No reply. Shocker! So, that's about as far as we got
in an attempt to visit WJHR. And absolutely not on the air at just
after 1400 GMT check when back in downtown Milton. But a recheck at
1515, there it was! However, a very, very poor signal. You'd think at
this proximity, the signal would not be skipping over this much
despite their actual low power (and something remotely groundwave).
Yet, not. See: https://transition.fcc.gov/ib/sand/neg/hf_web/WJHR.txt
Suspect the FCC to date never visited this one. And never will``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Another tropo TVDX opening on March 27. I start checking at
1508 UT and find some signals from both Tulsa and Wichita markets are
decoding. There is a Level 5-strong blob over the SE corner of KS, but
Enid is again on the edge of Level 1.

RF 31, 31-1 KDCU-DT, Derby (Wichita) KS, Univision is solid along with
the subs 31-2 thru 31-5 as described yesterday. Tropo usually fades
away by noon, but this megawatt must be in a pipeline/duct to here.
Checking around 2200 UT, it`s even making it on rabbit ears via my
alternative TV and STB! And still past 2400. Altho PSIP still reads
Escape on 31-3, bug in LR the past hours has been MYSTERY, and
full-screen net ID shows MYSTERY as a subset of COURT! Yet by 2100 UT,
Hepburn map predixions showed NO tropo between here and Kansas.

Back at 1510, via the main rooftop antenna, BAD signals on: 9, 10, 11,
13, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, some
of which are just OKC ruined by DX QRM.

RF 45, 6-1, KOTV Tulsa is in solid again

RF 12, 33-1, KSCW-DT again from Wichita

At 1654, RF 20, 19-1, KQCW-HD. Muskogee (Tulsa market), 550 kW with CP
to almost double power and tower HAAT, from site unknown, different?

And RF 28, 44-1 ION the only ID but we know it`s KTPX-TV Okmulgee
(Tulsa), megawatt

At 1656, BAD signal on RF 6 --- that takes some doing via my
highband/UHF only antenna for channels 7 and up! Per W9WI.com, the
ONLY ch 6 of any type or power in OK or KS is: KBSD-DT, Ensign KS
(Dodge City), the 31 kW ERP satellite of KWCH Wichita CBS, having
managed to retain its old analog channel. Note, this is in SW KS, not
the tropo epicenter of SE KS; and off the back of my antennas.

RF 9, another BAD. W9WI.com shows absolutely NO 9s of any power or
type in OK or KS (what became of the ``Enid`` LP CP axually in OKC?).
One in AR: 3 kW in Fort Smith.

My other antenna which is all-channel, is generally out of use with
broken VHF and reflector elements; is also half as high as the other
one, barely clearing roof level. But I energize it and its amp again
to compare: it is not getting anything on RF 6, but:

At 1702, RF 22, 23-1 KOKI-TV Tulsa, Fox with noon news unlike OKC`s;
23-2 MeTV; 23-3 EscapeT --- yes, looking very closely, the PSIP ends
with a capital T, not a !

RF 34, 41-1 KMYT-TV Tulsa with My, 41-2 GetTV, 41-3 GritTV, 41-4 HNI.
The STB confusingly mixes in my local virtual 41, K17JN-D, the 3ABN
satellator for which 41 never had anything to do with Enid, but rather
its flagship? station in far Ardmore! Those 41s go all the way to -9,
some of which are Audio-only.

RF 36, 17-1 TBN-HD, 17-2 Hillsong, 17-3 SMILE [kids], 17-4 Enlace
[Spanish], 17-5 POSITIV. This has to be megawatt KDOR-TV Bartlesville
OK, originally on NTSC and DTV 17, now repacked so at least no longer
can QRM Enid`s only station. W9WI.com has a different lineup for this
TBN and presumably the others: 17.3 JUCE, 17.5 Salsa (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

11769.96, March 26 at 1509, JBA carrier maybe the other offset VON
frequency, usually stronger thru midday but never enough for
listening; thought maybe VON would also be off here. I also have a

regarding what you are hearing on 1540: KGBC is currently running
music fill, having lost its latest Spanish language religion paid
programming client. They are promoting something called "Edge Radio"
that is "coming soon." Music genres being played are all over the
place, but I am pretty sure it was KGBC you heard mixing with KXEL``
(Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 2027)

** U S A. Enid supposed to hit 85 degrees heat wave March 26 but only
made it to 77 at Woodring in the afternoon. By 10 am = 15 UT it`s 60,
but humid with considerable regional tropo; as often, we are at the
edge of level 1 enhancement, but rises to level 4-5 around Shreveport.
On my antenna aimed about SE I start bandscannng at 1510:

RF 45, KOTV ``6`` Tulsa *still* hasn`t repacked, in solid at 1510 on
6-1 CBS Price Is Right, along with 6-2 KQCW-SD, 6-3 NewsOn6.

At 1515, BAD DX signals not enough to decode: 35, 31, 28, 22, 21, 14,
12, 10, 9 --- and OKC signals also BAD due to DX QRM or QRP: 24, 23,
19, 18, 17=Enid, 16, 15, 13!

At 1521, RF 32, 21-1 KPXJ-HD with Judge Jerry; 21-2 KPXJ-ME, 21-3
KPXJ-MO, 21-4 KPXJ-AN, standing for MeTV, Movies, AntennaTV. 21-3 also
has a LR bug that looks like NOIR. KPXJ is 1000 kW from Minden LA,
east of Shreveport in that market. If really in Minden, 370 miles from
here

RF 26, 6-1 KTAL-DT, NBC, Shreveport-Texarkana; call originally stood
for TALlest tower for a while midway in Vivian LA, 329 miles from
here, which under current conditions is real DX. Marginal briefly, no
chance to explore its subs. No sign of KTEN Ada OK in the way, maybe
already repacked away from 26.

RF 22, 22-1 HSN1 -- only match is merely KTOU-LD, 15 kW in OKC, which
takes tropo to visiblize here.

RF 20, 19-1 KQCW-HD, unlike only SD on KOTV RF 45, 6-2

RF 11, 11-1, OETA-HD, i.e. KOED Tulsa with the same subs at 13 KETA

At 1638, now from the north: RF 26, 24-1, Fox, i.e. KSAS Wichita KS;
This popped in still tuned to 26 after KTAL gone. Better at 1719 check
along with 24-2 TBD; 24-3 Comet.

At 1720, RF 31, 31-1 KDCU-DT, Derby KS (Wichita) Univision, along
with: 31-2 Grit, 31-3 Escape, 31-4 Laff, 31-5 Court. Contrary to
W9WI.com which shows 31 KDCU as 46-1 Univision, 46-2 UniMas, only

RF 12, 33-1 KSCW-DT, 33-2 Decades, 33-3 Antenna, 33-4 StarTV. That`s
Wichita KS. W9WI.com has this on RF 12 with 36-1 CW only

RF 35, 36-1 MyTV, 36-2 Stadium, 36-3 Charge!, 36-4 Dabl --- this is
KMTW Hutchinson KS. NOT as in W9WI.com: 36-2 Zuus Country, 36-3 GetTV

At 1726, another survey of BAD signals: 8, 9, 11, 13, 16, 21, 23, 24

RF 10, KAKE-DT PSIP ID on both 10-1 & 10-2 with MeTV bug LR. Wichita
(Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, March 27 at
0050-0056, not in the order tuned: 576, 612, 621, 684+, 747, 774(2),
837, 891*, 1044, 1053, 1215, 1305(2), 1422, 1575. *891 strongest.

Also, 837 has a slow beat of 72/minute = 1.2 Hz. There are high-powers
in Iran, Ethiopia, Eritrea, but more likely low-powers in Canary
Islands/Spain, but no mwoffset matches (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 711 kHz, March 26 at 0615 UT, carrier still here beating
against 710 stations, and itself again with a 192/minute = 3.2 Hz SAH
as heard at 0032. Presumed one of the seven Radio Rebelde, CUBA
transmitters; if exactly 711.000, which TA could be 3.2 Hz away? A
near-match at mwoffsets, 3.0 Hz below: ``710.9970 AOE SNRT Al Idaâ Al
Amazighia (Laâyoune=El Aaiún) 24h 2018-02-16`` --- a.k.a. MOROCCO; not
sure why still abbr`d AOE, meaning Spanish West Africa? That place is
axually in occupied WESTERN SAHARA right across from Canary Islands.

711, March 27 at 0047 UT sunset check, the hetty carrier is still
there for the third night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, March 25 at 0611, RHC is S9+30 of dead air in English;
6100 sufficiently modulated at S9+20, better than 6145; while 6000 and
5040 are off. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13764, 13636, 13572, 13828 approx., March 25 at 1440, they`re
back! After quite a break, the extremely distorted FMish spurblobs out
of 13700 RHC transmitter. So bad I can barely tell that the original
modulation is musical. These at approx. plus/minus 64 kHz multiples.
Meanwhile, 13780 is off already. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15700, March 25 at 1446, CRI Plus relay is undermodulated and
crackly; something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 15120, March 26 at 0012, CRI Spanish relay is S9+10 but
suptorted. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,,
WOR)

** CUBA. 15730, March 26 at 0014, RHC in French is S9+10 and
distorted; 5040, March 26 at 0014, RHC in Kriyol is S9+30, distorted
and hummy as usual on this frequency. Kelka shows twojure mowvay a RHC
(that`s Pidgin Creole) (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 800, March 25 at 0050, amid a TA carrier search including
one on 801, gospel huxter in Spanish dominant here at least on the E-W
longwire, despite KQCV OKC gospel huxtering in English.

Again March 26 at 0042; got to be XEROK Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua as
there are no USA SS:REL, at least not in the SW quadrant; SSS
enhancement? Right around our LSS. Much of the night XEROK is VP or
inaudible, with CKLW if anything besides KQCV to be heard. Originally
150 kW ND, one never knows how much power they really run at any
moment (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TAIWAN [non]. See USA: WRMI

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2026 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday March 25
from 2100:20 on WBCQ 7490.1v, JBA.

NOT confirmed, Wed Mar 25 at 2100 on WRMI 7780 tho still shown on
sked, instead JBA music, presumed secret airing of TIAMS which started
two weeks ago.

Wed 2100 is also an imaginary time for WOR on System D with *no*
frequencies. No, I do not find me on any other: 9395 RAE Italian, no
doubt an ancient airing; 9455 Oldies; 9955 playing ``Wipeout``, 15770
TOMBS. Nothing on 5010, 5800, 5850, 7570, 7730.

Confirmed UT Thu Mar 26 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, fair S9.

Next WOR 2027 should be audible by early UT Friday March 27, first N/W
Hemisphere airing at 2200 on 9955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5850, March 25 at 0610, WRMI is unusually off; no doubt
because of distorted modulation I told them about a few hours ago. By
next evening back on OK repaired, 0011 Slovak from RSI, VG S9+10, not
distorted (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Another survey of what`s really on WRMIs, UT March 26:

0015:
5800 // < 7570, SMTV
5950 // < 9395, gospel huxter in English about sociopaths
9455, Brother Scare with clip about Trump blowing it
9955, wall-of-noise jamming

0100:
5800, Taiwan Spanish prueba fecha 18 de marzo hace una semana
5010 // < 5850 music, which?
7780, WORLD OF RADIO 2026
9395, RAE ATTW in English with news --- make that olds!!! including
Juan Guaidó just recognized at State of the Union as the true
president of Venezuela --- that was on UT February 5!!

0130:
5800 // 9395, Spanish ID, World? music
5010 // 5850, different music, which?
7780, Wavescan, from HFCC KL repeat
9955, gospel huxter in English

0200:
5010 & 5800 off
5850, music
7780, Spanish via UTwente; probably Taiwan repeat
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5830, March 25 at 0610, S9+20 of dead air with some hum from
WTWW-1; much stronger signal than neighbour 5935 WWCR, anyway (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 711.00, March 26 at 0010, carrier hetting 710 KCMO has
become audible unlike before 0000. Fades stronger, so at 0032 I can
make out a SAHof 192/minute = 3.2 Hz. No modulation detectable. This
time I also DF it on the DX-398 and it`s NW/SE, certainly not from
Europe --- but the SAH may well be, such as Morocco.

After last night`s report I found many more reports of this mystery in
the IRCA iog, including:
https://groups.io/g/IRCA/topic/72538278

``Mark Pettifor 4:16am #7391 --- First noticed by Bill Frahm on
Facebook. Looks like some kind of transmitter that's way off
frequency, or accidentally transmitting on 711. By nulling, the signal
seems to be coming from the direction of Cuba. Indeed, when tuning to
the Key West SDR, it's quite strong, with a hum. No regular audio,
just the hum (which I don't hear from my location).

Attached is a screenshot of 5-minutes' worth of signal from my
location here in northern Indiana (1020-1025 UTC), showing some audio
artifacts on 60 and 120 Hz. This was on the south DKAZ, and Cuba on
710 was also coming in well at that time. Mark Pettifor, Goshen, IN,
KC9DOC / en71ao``

``Nick Hall-Patch 8:48am #7399 --- If it's a spur, it's widespread.
Noted as late a 0630 UT in Victoria (also viewable on the respective
DXFishbarrel), and seemed to be 711.000. At that time, I just assumed
that it was Laayoune and tried to get audio, but didn't stay up late
enough to see if it faded out at sunrise there. Nick``

Bill Whitacre 9:21am #7402 --- It was ‘in’ here [VA] ’til after
sunrise. Be interesting to see when/if it ‘fades in’ tonight — here
and there``

The only reason Radio Rebelde is on 710 is to block ``wacky`` WAQI,
Miami; main one is 200 kW but there are 6 more across The Greatest
Violator of Human Rights of the Antilles, ranging from 1 to 50 kW. It
seems quite likely one of those is off-frequency; from a transmitter
with exact 1-kHz step tuning. Or almost, earing the het compared to
720 WGN, this one seems slightly on the plus side tonight. Overall,
not as outstronging as last night.

BTW, as I was monitoring this, there was a burst of RF noise at 0052
--- sure enough, it`s my nearest street light igniting, horizon almost
clear at sunset 0048 UT. Usually I notice when tuning on SW; quite
wideband. Fortunately it diminishes as the light brightens (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA carrier search, starting at 0029 UT
March 26, 19 minutes before LSS: 1215, 1044, 936, 909, 774, 711 q.v.,
549; by 0043 also 891.

As for 774 which I reported with maybe 3 carriers beating last night,
I would tonight also, but remember that before, there has been a
spoiler in there, something local, unclear if receiver birdie or
external, but even more offset below 774.000, matching something
without any NDB ID, just below 387.0 of which 774 is 2 X. Previously,
but not now, this has also been detected on X 3 = 1162, and X 4 =
1548, both of which could also be taken for legit 9-kHz bandplan
signals (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ALBANIA [non]. 5800 // 9395, UT Wed Mar 25 tune in WRMIs at 0140,
nothing but songs in unID language, Tirana as usual? Not for sure
until 0159 a few notes of IS before RMI ID and onward. See also USA
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ARGENTINA [non]. 9395, UT Wed Mar 25 at 0100, RAE ATTW English
relay via WRMI, opening a ``new edition via WRMI 9395 at 2 AM [sic]``
--- but subject is conductor Daniel Barenboim as one of ten legendary
Argentines (well, at least born there), same evergreen edition we
heard last week; only wish I had time to listen to it straight thru.
RAE has supposedly closed down for COVID-19 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15370, March 24 at 1858, RHC is S9+20/10 of dead air; next
check 1952 is musicking. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, March 24 at 1900, RHC opening English, first broadcast
of day, and as always this transmitter-frequency is awfully distorted.
Don`t they notice or care? Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, Tue Mar 24 at 2330, RHC English with `DXers Unlimited`
underway, Arnie talking about QRP antennas; mentions he [CO2-kaka]
tried one with 4 watts on 14060-CW and made 3 contacts. His speech is
fairly readable today, but MEGO subject matter of no interest here.
Wraps up at 2338. 11880 is becoming reliable so I will not remark
``SAWA`` this time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11850, March 24 at 2330, RHC is JBM with music // 11760,
11700, and distorted 11670; plus and minus the 11850 JBA spur carriers
on 11840 & 11860. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 11950 is also on
with separate Mesa Redonda TV soundtrack, S9+20 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TAIWAN [non]. 5800, UT Wed Mar 25 at 0100, RTI relay test via WRMI
is *still* running in Spanish, and handily announces the original date
in the opening, ``miércoles 18 de marzo``, so here`s another
auto-repeating a week-old file.

9395 // 7780 // 5010, UT Wed Mar 25 at 0200, RTI Spanish yet again
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, March 24 at 2347, VOT English to N America was on
today! By now in post-IS loop, S9/+10 but noisy. Pause at 2356
restarting loop about to lead-in to German, but shortly cut off*
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9455, March 24 at 1853, TOMBS on WRMI is S9-S7, NVG but much
stronger than JBA carrier 9395. Both are on the same azimuth 355
degrees, same antenna type 805 in HFCC, and same power 100 kW. How can
this be? Something`s unequal. Rated powers of SW stations are just
that --- doesn`t mean they are really running anywhere near that
level. Propagation is pitiful today so even the Superstation on 9330
is a JBA carrier, leaving 9455 as the SSOB! Yet at 18z WWV reports K
index 0, solar flux 70, no storms past or future (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. Pro-forma search of all possible WRMI frequencies, March 24
at 2154, finds no sign of WORLD OF RADIO, despite System B scheduling
for Tuesday 2130 but with no frequencies shown. The 21-22 hour for
this and many other imaginary programs has been on the grid for many
months. WRMIs are either inaudible/off, JBA carriers, or emanating
something else (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WRMI survey 0100-0300 UT Wed Mar 25; see also ALBANIA,
ARGENTINA, TAIWAN:

0100:
5010 // distorted 5850, 0103 BB ID and rockified `Joy to the World`!
7780, La Rosa de Tokio repeat about AWR

0140:
5010 // distorted 5850, Mideast music, so World?
7780, JBA, still LRT
9455, Hal Turner
9955, gospel huxter in English

0200:
5800, music of some sort
5850, different music, ME/World, distorted
9955, R. Praga, Spanish

0230:
5010 & 5800 now off
5850 // 9395, Slovakia in English
7780, Ukraine in English, VG at a NY state SDR
9455, music of some sort VG
9955, no signal, off? ought to be algo with 9395, 9455 arriving.

I`ve notified WRMI about the distortion on 5850 tonight and last night
and they were looking into it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1539.96 approx., March 25 at 0035 UT, low audible het stix
out vs KXEL 1540.00 et al., no doubt KGBC Galveston TX. Splitting with
LSB tuning, I think the classic rock I hear is coming from it while
KXEL talx (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, March 25 at
0040-0053 UT, right across our LSS at 0047; starting at top end, as I
have just got the KGBC het below 1540. 1584, 1575, 1539, 1521,
1511.99, 1503(2), 1485, 1467, 1458, 1431, 1422, 1305(2), 1296, 1215,
1179, 1107(2), 1053, 999, 936, 891, 882, 855(2), 837, 801, 774(3?),
747, 729, 711*, 693, 684+, 621 --- but none lower this close to
sunset.

Note 1521 where Saudi presumably still closes at 2230? Maybe it`s East
Turkistan instead. First one, TA tipping me off was 1512, and I tried
to measure it as a possible domestic spur. Lowest off-frequency in
mwoffsetts is the megawatt Saudi at Jeddah on .992 or .993.

Big het from 711 is by far the strongest, but not much modulation, at
0051, nor any timesignal audible at 0100. 300 kW from Morocco most
likely; also hi powers in Egypt, Iran, and Spain has 25 kW (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
