Hauser
** CANADA [and non]. 335-MCW kHz, Feb 9 at 0646 UT, dash and YLD,
which is 1000-watt NDB at Chapleau, Ontario.

332-MCW kHz, Feb 9 at 0648 UT, dash and QT, 1000-watt NDB at Thunder
Bay, Ontario, as usual way atop nearby IC in wIChita, Kansas.

290-MCW kHz, Feb 9 at 0652 UT, dash and QR, 100-watt NDB at Regina,
Saskatchewan.

276-MCW kHz, Feb 9 at 0654 UT, dash and YEL, 200 watt NDB at ELliot
Lake, Ontario.

248-MCW kHz, Feb 9 at 0658 UT, dash and WG, 1000-watt NDB at Winnipeg,
Manitoba. This one stands out with much bigger signal than any of the
other Canadians, usually skipped re-logging it. Hardly any are closer
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13413-trace, 13488 S4 vs CODAR S9, 13559 S8-S9, 13629 S9+10,
13771 S9/+10, 13842 S9 way over JBA 13845 WWCR, 13913 S4, 13982 S2/3,
14053 S1, 14124-trace, all approx., Feb 9 from 1512 not in the order
tuned, distorted FMish spurblobs with F# tone from fundamental
13700-AM RHC during `Sonido Cubano` music at approx. 71-kHz intervals,
this time extending even into the 20-m hamband. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** LIBERIA. Re my unID on 6049.975, here`s another, from Wolfgang
Bueschel: ``6049.975 kHz Tentatively Radio ELWA Liberia, at 0626 UT
Feb 9 JBA threshold level, poor and tiny -112dBm!`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 350-MCW kHz, 341-MCW kHz, 255-MCW kHz, Feb 9 at 0645-0659
UT, all three of our major ND beacons, RG in OKC, EI in Enid, and SW
in Stillwater are AWOL, presumably due to frigid weather, slick
runways, etc. At first I wonder if my own icy antenna be down, till
non-Okies show up. Also occasional lightning crashes from storms along
the LA-MS-AL-FL Gulf coast. See too, USA for what else may be heard.
And, big deal, say the q.v. Canadians still running. Recheck at 1720
UT, all three still off; we won`t have much meltage for several days
with highs well below freezing (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 263-MCW kHz, Feb 9 at 0657, CVM, 25-watt NDB at Alton -
CiVic Memorial, Illinois.

257-MCW kHz, Feb 9 at 0659 UT, in the absence of nearby SW in
Stillwater OK, tuned to 255, I hear two very weak others mixing; one
of which seems F#K or F#C --- only fit is 25 watts on 257, FWC,
Fairfield - Wayne County, Illinois (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 3308-USB, Feb 9 at 0225, MARS net 5TX1 led by AFA5FE, mostly
JBA vs S6 noise level; discussing virus shots, primarily abbr`d calls
such as 5FE, 5QI, 5KK, but uttered fonetikaly. Also about ``two R-I`s
have been issued, effective until December 31``. What`s an R-I, in
MARSpeak? I suspect this net be in TXas. Broad search on AFA5FE leads
first to mint green as a hex color code, but not to license plates in
the remaining 5 pages.

This huge reference of utility postal addresses stopped in 2004y
http://radiokoteg.kiev.ua/RS/FREQ/2182/Coastal%20Radio.txt
and leads to AFA5FE as William H. Greene in Morrison, Colorado; but
that was 22+ years ago. No het from 3310 where used to be an Enid
KGWA/KCRC mixing product, nor Mosoj Chaski (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 610, Feb 9 at 0144 UT, S9 of dead air from KCSP Kansas City
MO, but some JBA talk either from KCSP barely modulated, or an
understation. Like this for at least 2 minutes I stay with it. If a
station will not have anyhuman staff listening to itself, how can they
expect the public to do so? Radio-lccator.com shows site as a smidgen
west of Stateline toward Overland Park, KANSAS. Harold Frodge puts it
in Prairie Village KS. Both KCSP and KYYS in separate report are
Entercom outlets, reversing state lines. I suspect lots of seemingly
ethnic Spanish stations are really owned by Anglo groups (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Broadcasting Information column in new IRCA DX Monitor Feb
13 but published Feb 8 includes:

``1250 KYYS Kansas City, KS old slogan: “La X 1250-La Súper Estación”,
new: “La X 1250” --- Column data span: January 23-February 06 2021,
Data courtesy of stationintel.com, FCC database and member
contributions.`` I wonder which reported that, exactly?

This implies that they have dropped ``La Súper Estación`` from their
slogan IDs. I rather doubt this, and since KYYS is the dominant, tho
QRMed night signal on 1250 here, I monitor it UT February 9. Before
0200 there is a talk show, but ToH ID goes ``La Equis, 1250, la número
uno, La Súper Estación``. FCC call KYYS, and Kansas City, Kansas need
to be mentioned too, and I may have missed them.

Mostly music after 0200, but some more IDs at 0244, 0309, 0352
continue to include ``La Súper Estación``. Non-IDs are frequent with
some variations, additional slogans, but always end with L-S-E-. The
last two heard via the closest KiwiSDR remote in KS, by KD4SHO, whose
map puts it around Shawnee Mission, greater KC/KS, but with remarkably
poor `local` reception. Quite possibly someone heard KYYS sometime
without L-S-E- but that does not mean it is official, permanent and
irrevocable, and I suspect the same goes for some other ``changes``
rounded up for what is nevertheless a useful reference.

BTW, the night coverage map at
https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KYYS&service=AM&h=N&z=i
shows site is definitely on the MISSOURI side, south of Liberty with a
bit of a notch toward Overland Park and Enid. Harold Frodge attaches
the site to River Bend MO. See also 610 KCSP log (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. Pertinent to 250 kW of dead airs, not to mention jamming, not
to mention whether even successful SW broadcasts are worth it:

Electricity Prices Shock Cubans: Over 2,590 Pesos
Some electricity bills exceed the minimum wage of 2,100 pesos.
DDC | La Habana
https://diariodecuba.com/cuba/1612631622_28636.html
Perhaps there be a hidden ``SW wastage`` tax imposed on the poor
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PUERTO RICO. 391-MCW kHz, Feb 8 at 0720 UT, ND beacon DDP, which is
1000 watts from San Juan - Dorado. I was tuned to 390-USB. Always nice
to hear this far one when it propagate (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [non]. Correxion to original report as 17545.007 --- was
supposed to be 17745.007; I had Bayto Yaikl on my mind. It`s a week
later before I notice this in the NASWA Flashsheet; is no one else
paying attention? Not me, hi! Original log report fixed:

17745.007, Feb 1 at 1455, HOA talk and bit of music S9-S4, slightly
off-frequency until cut off at 1459.5*. Per Aoki/NDXC, it`s BBC Somali
via UAE at 1430-1500; also at 1100-1130 via Madagascar, plus Saturdays
only UAE starting at 1130 filling in the gap - for silly ballgames?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 407-MCW kHz, Feb 8 at 0718, NDB IL, which is 25 watts from
wILmington, Ohio; tuned to 405-USB, and hard to untangle from
always-there HRU in Kansas, about the same pitches (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2072 monitoring: confirmed Sunday February 7
at 2302 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6159.93, S6-S8, at Nunavut item so
probably started on time at 2300, hopefully both on SW and webcast.

(Meanwhile the other WBCQ airs UBMP with Tajik music on 7390.22; The
first half-hour of this always repeats 25 hours later, so you can
listen to WOR and still get the first of UBMP later.) Both offsets
confirmed by KB0FX remote in SAM mode.

Also confirmed UT Monday February 8 at 0057 just in time the 0030 on
WRMI 7730, VG direct.

Also confirmed UT Monday February 8 at 0230 on WRMIs: 5800 VG S9+20
via Bonaire; 7780 VP S3 with staticrashes via UTwente; also WRN web.

Also confirmed at UTwente Mon Feb 8 from 1900:33 on IRRS via Bulgaria
7290, intact at spotchex until closing 29 minutes later with a pause
before some music fill. Usual ambiside splash de 7295 East Turkistan
and just as bad 7280 Vietnam. Earlier, weak carrier on at *1854:28,
bump up to full power by 1854:30, open carrier until 1859:50 last word
of algo and cut to ending of sign-on with PO box only; 1900:04

** U S A. 1110, Feb 8 at 2115 UT, talkshow in English, loops NNE/SSW
like KFAB Omaha; I`m checking at about the same time I was DXing a
biday ago from Nescatunga, finding good signal from this whilst little
from 1040 WHO Des Moines, which is a little further but ought to be
doing at least as well via skywave, both 50 kW ND in daytime. Soon I
check the remote in Omaha just to be positive, and then at 2130 a
remote in Crowley TX, which is getting KVTT but poorly despite
proximity: talk in S Asian language, mentions Pakistan so maybe Urdu?
Then an adstring mostly in accented-English obviously concerning The
Metroplex, two ``Radio Azad`` IDs heard, not ``FunAsia`` as in
radio-locater. And the Azad name is not in NRC AM Log. Seemingly has
no website to look up languages. Azad means ``free`` in Urdu, et al.

KFAB however shows a local talkhost afternoons, Chris Baker, who would
rather live in Omaha than Miami! KFAB is fading up and down a bit ---
it`s at that awkward distance between edge of pure groundwave and
skywave ramping up, 352 miles city-to-city; while Des Moines is 425

** BRAZIL. 6134.877, Feb 7 at 0710, VP off-frequency, and a bit of
RCC-pious Brasuguese, ``cheia de graça``, so certainly R. Aparecida,
which can never decide whether to stay off-frequency-minus or +plus.
When it`s minus we can always hope it`s Radio Santa Cruz, Bolivia,
back instead; it may not be RC but just named for the city. I check
9630+ but no signal from the other Apparition now. Slogan does not
mean ``full of grease``, which is graxa, but ``grace``. Altho my
Langenscheidt dixionary comes up only with eleven other translations
of graça. Wolfgang Bueschel also happened to log it at 0735 on
6134.879, close enough (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11540, Feb 7 at 1525, something here and nothing
on 11530 so Denge Welat and/or Turkey jammer have shifted again. After
1500, DW is supposed to be via FRANCE (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SUDAN SOUTH [non]. 11705, Feb 7 at 1530, talk maybe Farsi? and
music, S5-S9. No, must be Juba Arabic as R. Tamazuj is the only thing
anywhen on 11705 per Aoki/NDXC, via MADAGASCAR, and gone at 1601
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5980, Feb 7 at 0702, clear mixture of DGS from 5935 and
Overcomer audio from 5890, i.e. leapfrog mixing product another 45 kHz
beyond, between two WWCR adjacent transmitters; also some residual
Cuban pulse jamming, adding up to S9 here, while 5935 is S9+30, 5890
is S9+40. Unusually strong in the nightmiddle; often earlier in
evening they have faded way down, depending on MUF and skip distances.
No, 5980 is not receiver-produced: still there with preamps off (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6049.975, Feb 7 at 0707, JBA audio off-frequency.
Suspected ELWA Liberia which I have a tough time logging anywhen. Is
it known to be minus 25 Hz? Per Aoki, only other 6050s now are Tibet
and Malaysia, both in the their daytime and the latter long gone. ELWA
supposedly starts at 0530 but is far enough west still to propagate
this late, and I hear it no better earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [non]. 13650, Feb 6 at 2335, have been listening to the nice
Chinese music on CRI`s so-called ``Portuguese`` service via CUBA, on
caradio; BTW, I see that WRTH 2021 says nothing about this and some
other Eurolangs being replaced for months by music fill only. Maybe
that will be noted in the free B-20 pdf updater coming out shortly.
Passing by the 94.3/99.9 joint LPFM transmitter site on N side of Enid
on US 81, once again 13650 is overridden by FM noise from them; likely
overloads on any SW frequency tuned on the caradio, but fortunately
lasts for only a few blox (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5040, Feb 7 at 0125, RHC`s tropical frequency is OFF; still
off at 0332 next check. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 6180, Feb 7 at 0141, S9/+10 of dead air --- almost:
occasional few words of English JBA. Is this the CRI relay as
scheduled? Much weaker signal than not // 6000 RHC English, and
unusual heavy flutter on 6180 - RNA Brasil is probably SAHing it but
also too weak on 11780 to make a match, nor any DRM noise audible
around 11910 but if heard would not be // either.

5910, Feb 7 at 0336, this CRI English via CUBA has VG signal and
modulation, but no trace via KB0FX remote of harmonic on 11820.
Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 4015-USB, UT Sun Feb 7 at 0122, pirate music at
S9/+10, reminds me of ``Surfin` USA``, but not per playlisters, where
everything is on a ``sweet`` theme; 0129 ``Wolverine Radio`` expected
ID. Still going at 0200 with bluegrass when I tune over to 5950 for
TRSW. Many more logs here:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,77752.0.html
Last time I heard it on 74m, was Jan 24 on 4055-USB. Nothing doing on
43m tonight (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1610 kHz, Feb 6 circa 2200 UT, no signal from this TIS as
in IRCA 2018 list:
``1610 WQCL720 OK Jet Alfalfa Alfalfa County OSU Extension's Great
Salt Plains Lake (9 Mi N of Jet on SR 38) [ALERT] 36.742667 98.132333
expires 04/04/15 source tRs heard 10/13``

It used to be barely audible daytime in western Enid from quiet
parking lots with NOAA Weatheradio relay; not lately, but certainly
was still on long past 2015y. Now I drive right by the site at park
entrance, across from Kegelman radome and aux Vance AFB airstrip, and
it`s gone --- no signal and no TIS antenna or transmitter at all.

However, there is a new TIS-suspicious-looking pole on the east side
of US 81/60/64 north of Enid, south of the T-junxion. No sign and no
signal on 1610 or 530 -- yet? Not far from highway construxion which
is going to continue for a long time, eventually widening all of this
strip to much-needed four lanes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 750, Feb 6 circa 2124 UT, still no signal from KMMJ Grand
Island NE, which has been off for months pending sale and reformatting
--- and recalling? During bandscan on caradio near Nescatunga at
artesian well. Here there is less splash daytime from 740 KRMG (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1110, Feb 6 at 2123 UT, VG talk signal presumed KFAB Omaha
NE skywave already; yet the next 50 kW station to the east, 1040 WHO
Des Moines IA, is barely audible. This does not make sense if both of
them are really 50 kW ND! Could 1110 really be KVTT The Metroplex?
This was English, not Asian, and altho 50 kW, KVTT is direxionally
unfavorable; yet higher 50 kW direxional Mpx stations 1440 gospel
huxter already in well, and also 1480 Vietnamese like 1560 Houston
(Glenn Hauser, near Nescatunga OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1370, Feb 6 at 2121 UT, insurance ad, ``1370 KGNO`` ID and
C&W music, not strong and fading but mostly dominant on caradio at
artesian well N of Nescatunga OK on State Hwy 11. I don`t hear it in
Enid and was believed off or QRP for longtime but in last few months
others have heard it active. I`d say it`s still underpowered for rated
5 kW ND at only 198 km = 122 statute miles from Dodge City over the
Ogallala Aquifer (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2072 monitoring: on the road, not
in a position to confirm the Sat 2030v Feb 6 airing on WA0RCR,

Confirmed Sat Feb 6 at 2230 on WRMI 9955, good on caradio and no
jamming audible, but starting to show during `Viva Miami` following at

Also confirmed Sat Feb 6 at 2308 the 2300 on WRMI 7780, JBA on caradio
N of Enid on US 81/64/60.

Also confirmed starting at 0422:30 UT Sun Feb 7 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM,

R Shortwave now with a regular slot: roboYL signs on in English and
German offering special eQSLs for detailed reports; subject is Outlaw
music, first tune starts about west Tennessee. Similar if not
identical IDs and QSL offers at 0214; and 0242 followed by an
18-wheeler song, 0256 signing off, 0257 YROT theme again. Good
S9+10/20 and clear but by the end with a SAH maybe Ethiopia. Same
program is to repeat at same time every week this month (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, UT Sun Feb 7 at 0129, WTWW-2 hamtalk wrapping up with
looong list of credits; by 0131 `Theatre Organ Under the Arch` is

** AUSTRALIA [non]. 9265: Richard Langley, NB, replies to my report
about Unique Radio via WINB, Feb 5 at 2100-2230:

``"also had some clix about once a second, not sure if a transmission
defect or QRM; audible up to 9280 but not on the minus side"

Also heard clicks here in NB at a higher frequency (10 or 15 kHz?) as
I was tuning down to 9265 kHz. Clicks were not heard on 9265 kHz so
the program was QRM-free.

"informal discussion but hard to follow with SW reception declining"

This was the "Postcard from Poprad" news chat show with Eric Wiltsher
(former U.K.journalist, BBC, etc.), Dave Rhodes, and Rachael Brunsden.
Chatting about current events; mostly U.S. politics, CNN, and MSNBC,
and Google in Australia. Poprad is a city at the foot of Slovakia’s

Issoudun transmitter is cycling/wobbling slightly up and down in
frequency, easily noticeable with BFO if not in AM (Glenn Hauser, OK,

** NORTH AMERICA. 4060-USB, no doubt prompted by discussion of the

COVINGTON, Okla. — Responding to a swarm of at least 18 earthquakes —
including one measuring magnitude 4.2 — in the Covington-Lucien area
Tuesday {sic! it was Friday, Feb 5 --- gh}, Oklahoma Corporation
Commission has ordered disposal wells in the area to cease or reduce
operations.

Disposal wells within three miles of the largest earthquake’s
epicenter have been ordered to cease operations, while wells from 3 to
10 miles of the epicenter must reduce volume to no more than 50% of
the current 30-day average, according to an OCC news release.

The decision was made by OCC’s Induced Seismicity Department. It is
estimated the actions will reduce disposed volumes by about 9,000
barrels a day, according to OCC.

“Researchers are in broad agreement that disposal into the Arbuckle
formation in parts of Oklahoma can raise risk of induced seismicity,”
said Matt Skinner, OCC spokesman. “Commission ISD directives since
2015 limiting or eliminating such disposal are among the actions
credited with the sharp decrease in Oklahoma’s seismicity rate since
2015.

The quakes — about four miles east and 1.5 south of Covington and 21
miles southeast of Enid — started at about 10:17 a.m., with magnitudes
3.5 and a 3.7 shaking the region, respectively, about 40 seconds
apart, according to U.S. Geological Survey. Both were between about
2.5 and 3.7 miles deep and centered in the same area.

About an hour later, two smaller quakes hit — a 2.3 at 11:27 a.m. and
2.6 at 11:29 a.m. — with the largest quake of the morning, a magnitude
4.2, centered in the same area at 11:48 a.m., according to USGS. It
also was at a depth of 3.1 miles. Smaller quakes continued with a 2.6
at 11:59 a.m.; a 2.2 at 12:03 p.m.; a 2.3 at 12:14 p.m.; a 1.5 at
12:44 p.m.; a 1.9 at 1:12 p.m.; a 2.1 at 1:59 p.m.; a 1.8 at 2:20
p.m.; a 1.5 at 3:59 p.m.; a 1.9 at 4:31 p.m.; a 1.7 at 4:36 p.m.; a
1.7 at 5:08 p.m.; a 1.8 at 6:40 p.m.; and a 1.3 at 8:23 p.m. {altho
USGS uses UT, these times converted to CST = UT -6}

The quakes were reportedly felt nearby and as far as downtown and
western parts of Enid, according to posts on social media. One
Covington resident said the earlier twin quakes knocked items from the
walls of her home.

Oklahoma has in the past been the location of several earthquakes with
the upsurge of oil and gas activity in the region starting prior to
2010. Temblors have decreased with action from Oklahoma Corporation
Commission and practices undertaken by the industry to curtail
wastewater injection in many places.

In 2020, there were only 36 earthquakes with a magnitude greater than
3.0 throughout the state, with 16 of those in Northwest Oklahoma.``
