Glenn Hauser logs August 14, 2022 |

Sunday, August 14 2022
** GERMANY. I posted this Aug 13 exclusively to the WOR iog; apparently no other group found it worth quoting in time:
``WMRI Europe closure From: Neil Gates <wmrieurope@gmail.com> Hello Glenn, WMRI Europe will be ending probably temporarily its shortwave transmission via Channel 292. The final broadcast will be on Sunday August 14 2022. I hope to return the station to the air in early 2023. 73 (Neil Gates, WMRI Europe, Aug 7) Has been Sundays only 12-16 UT on 9670, WOR circa 1330. Neil, Sorry to hear that. Thanks for letting me know. I was just hearing WOR well via remote in Ireland. Thanks so much for including WOR. Hope WMRI will be back and anticipate news about that. Also, what about your 24 hour music stream? Will that continue, with or without I suppose, WOR. And what is your QSL policy? I could prompt listeners to pick up your final broadcast for QSL. Best wishes, (Glenn to Neil, Aug 7) Hello Glenn, The 24 hour music streaming will end following the final shortwave transmission on 14 August. eQSL verification is available for reports sent via wmrieurope.com 73 (Neil Gates) As reported on WORLD OF RADIO 2151`` See USA [and non] WORLD OF RADIO monitoring for the first part of my report; this time I keep listening to the rest of the broadcast, via remote in Ireland, antenna ``dipole SW/NE 164 feet``. 1400:15 WMRI Europe ID, as via Rohrbach, Germany, ``making shortwave great again``, music; 1425 drops to dead air, ACI from 9675. Not until 1444.4 does music chop back on, but keeps going off and on again. 1445 announcement as Animals tune, cuts out. 1452.5 rock music on until 1453.6 dead air again past 1500. Website supposedly displays current music as ``71-238 The Doors``. 1503 cuts on classic rock with ``Gloria``; sked at 15-16 is ``Mario Marconi``. 1510.5 DA, 1512 music; recheck 1541 music; 1542 Mario Marconi says ``back next Sunday at 12 UTC``. 1554 sign-off ``until next Sunday``, tune loops, from MASH? until 1600 right into `Encore` from Radio Tumbril, which I already heard better last night at 0100 on WRMI. It seems that WOR is the only spoken-word program on WMRI Europe. No dead-air interruptions were heard after I tuned in and can only hope there were not before. Unfortunate that the final transmission was so interrupted. Can`t tell where the problem was, from HQ somewhere in UK, on the way to Germany, or at Ch 292; but not the remote receiver which kept getting the signal whether modulated or not. We look forward to WMRI`s return next year (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MADAGASCAR [and non]. 17790, Aug 14 at 0623, gospel music at S9/+20 direct, the SSOB by far, as nightmiddle propagation continues on this hiband, then French signoff by RMA = AWR, with address in Côte d`Ivoire, and off by 0630. Aimed at W Africa, thUSward beyond. 17530.025, Aug 14 past 0634 now becomes the SSOB, BBC English and always off-frequency, scheduled 0600-0800. Also several more JBA carriers on this band. I also scan 21 MHz band just in case but no carriers there, not even JBAs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** UKRAINE [non]. (7730), Aug 14 at 0500-0507, UR1 via WRMI immediately into English `Ukraine: Security Issue` with its ever-dramatic music also bedding thruout with fadeup transitions; for Aug 13, day 171 of Putin`s war, S9 into Maryland SDR, this time by heavily-accented YL who also speaks too fast to follow very well, including: frontline stretches 2500 km; 193 somethings in past 24 hours; Ukraine destroys occupier`s logistic centers; Russians destroyed thousands of homes and apartment houses (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2151 monitoring: confirmed UT Sunday August 14 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+12 into Maryland SDR. Also confirmed UT Sunday August 14 at 0325 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+15 but noisy into nearby SDR, about 7 minutes into so started circa 0318. As usual, no signal direct to OK at this hour on 9670, but: Also confirmed Sunday August 14 from 1354 tune-in until 1400:15 on WMRI Europe via Channel 292, Germany, 9670, so started slightly late at 1331:15; S7/S5 into NW Ireland SDR with considerable local line noise. After this, WMRI is suspended, maybe resuming in January: see GERMANY for more. Next: 2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy 2230 UT Sunday WRMI 5950 to NNW [to be canceled? still August 7] 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW 0300vUT Monday WBCQ 6160v Area 51 to WSW 0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba] 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 5950 [NEW] to NNW 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html A noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702, by money order or check on a US bank. Or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15770, Aug 14 at 0320, surprised to find this WRMI daytime frequency on air in the night, as I bring up the Missouri remote to check WOR, which was last tuned to 15770 for checking after 1930. To be sure it`s not an SDR anomaly, I find the same into Maryland remote at S6/S7. Soon obvious it`s TOMBS, // 5850 et al.; 0335 kids singing, then Alex Scourby, Bibling as if it were incontrovertible. WRMI skedgrid shows 15770 only at 11-24 UT. Forgot to turn off #9 transmitter? Or maybe a propagation test? Hardly anything else on 19m at this hour. I keep checking, still at 0422, 0457 S7/S9 gospel music, but by 0507 dead air, carrier still on, S9/+10 into Maryland. Direct at 0628+ it`s a JBA carrier still2 on. What gives? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, Aug 14 at 0621, quick bedtime check confirms RV still thirdharmonicizing JBA. On Aug 5, Walt Salmaniw with his super setup on Haida Gwaii was able to hear the fourth harmonic on 15780, but not the fifth on 19725 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 1931 UT August 14 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Sunday, August 14 2022
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, Sat Aug 13, via Buenos Aires remote start listening at 1440, but nothing until cuts on S7/S9 at 1523 amid music, 1524 formal sign-on, quadrilingual, for this ``Ciclo Radial 2022 Esperanza Audaz``, staff names and themesong. 1529 historical items; 1532 song; 1535 ``Radio Arcángel San Gabriel, su compañía``, then ``live`` YL chat starting with María, for this programa No. 15 of Esperanza Audaz, referring to other bases, some transitory, about Melchior this time, as same stuff I heard on Wednesday. So I suspend, especially since a 137 MHz sporadic E patch east of here beckons me to the FMDX caradio --- yet nothing but tropofringers. Recheck for LRA36 at 1605, off already (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** BRAZIL. 9664.935, Aug 13 at 0619, RVM with music; has been fairly stable around here for several nights (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** BRAZIL. 9818.791, Aug 13 at 0630, presumed R 9 de Julho, JBA on signature skewed frequency and slightly wavering. Last measurement a dekanight ago was .793, margin of error (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Aug 13 at 1701, RHC Spanish, distorted. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9440, Aug 13 at 2150, R. Cairo, English, very strong into UTwente but extremely distorted suppressed modulation. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 95.3, Sat Aug 13 at 1545 UT, // 1520, KOKC translator with call-in show about nutrition? not excluding praying, so an infomercial as sked `Great Health Live`. Checked because of CCI from algo, hoped-for Es or at least tropo DX. 100.1, Aug 13 at 1700 UT, ``The Spirit of the West``, i.e. KWFX Woodward, listed as ``Spirit Country``, 100 kW, but mostly blocked here by my closest local, 99.9 KVBN-LP (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SAO TOME E PRINCIPE. 6079.996, Aug 13 at 0416, VOA English about Afghanistan, into UTwente, no sign of any other signal such as R. Marumby, Brasil. Even to Brasília SDR, no ZY but VOA VP S4/S5 and minus 4/5 Hz. 0622 recheck direct, 6079.998 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, August 13 at 2202, no signal from VOT English into UTwente, nor later in hour checked direct. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, Aug 13 at 0500-0507, UR1 via WRMI, via Maryland SDR, `Ukraine: Security Issue` for Aug 12 = Day 170 of Putin`s war. Best YL announcer. Including: still shelling Kharkov; various other attax; civilian casualties in Mykolaiv; over 43K Russian casualties so far; Russia recruiting mercenaries from Syria, Mali, Laos, Uzbekistan [what a motley group]; Zap. nuclear plant still being shelled (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 347 MCW kHz, Aug 13 at 0625 UT, AFK, 25-watt ND beacon at Nebraska City NE, encountered JBA between 341 Enid and 350 OKC; easy in winter and now the central storm noise abated abit (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2151 monitoring: confirmed NOT on 9395 anymore at 0130 UT Saturday August 13, as per revised sked. Also, 7730 is *on* the air after 0130 with algo, unlike 24 hours ago when WOR should have aired there. Also confirmed UT Saturday August 13 at 0400 on WBCQ Radio Angela, 5130 minus 27/28 Hz into Maryland SDR, = 5129.9725, S9/+10. Also confirmed on WRN North America webcast, Sat Aug 13 after 1600 and 1930. Still not confirmed on WRMI 15770, Sat Aug 13 at 1950, as still on skedgrid for System B, but fill music instead of original replacement gospel huxter on System C. Confirmed Sat Aug 13 at 1947 about 8 minutes into on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, Wentzville MO, VG steady S9+16 into nearby SDR north of Warrenton, so started about 1939. Faded in and out like sporadic E which I was hoping for, with a 137-MHz MUF patch east of here (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) 98.3, Aug 13 at 1654 UT, Open carrier, dead air, must be from 97 kW semi-local KQZQ, Kiowa KS, just a few km and fewer miles from OK. However, pretends to be a Pratt station, site more than halfway from Kiowa, north of Medicine Lodge. Still dead for a few minutes, not rechecked until 1935 when it`s alive with country. BTW, Kiowa was the last known location of Scott Becker, onetime partner of Allan Weiner until becoming a nonentity to WBCQ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2343 UT August 13 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Saturday, August 13 2022
** EGYPT. 9440, August 12 at 2144 and 2159 chex, R. Cairo is AWOL again in English, no signal to UTwente, and no loss, where something is ever egregious if on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 17855 & 15520 & 11940, Friday August 12 at 2200, REE token English all good into UTwente; news mostly about monkeypox. 2205 Amy Egan`s feature about Rosalía de Castro, poet from Galicia who made the Gallego language respectable in 1863; and songs. Died at age 49 of uterine cancer (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830.002, Aug 12 at 2200, VOT English, VG S9+35/40 into UTwente, VG signal and modulation, no whine or other complaints this time, but because of simulSpain and BBC World News America on PBS/OETA, I can`t pay attention until 2231 when `Feeling Supreme` is opening, this time about food order ---? Heavily-accented YL. No, it`s *Foot Odor* remedies starting with soaking them in lemon water. Wow, such a helpful SW station, info provided nowhere else! Same catchy theme plays at end 2237; into Turkrock. 2242 DYKT? = `Did you know that?` 14-km-long beach, and a Roman era tunnel 1380 m long, 7 m hi, 6 m wide, for water. Brief DYKT O&C theme includes beeps. After usual disorganized recitation of English sked, chopped off air at 2255* following only first two notes of IS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, Aug 12 at 0500-0505, UR1 via WRMI, `Ukraine: Security Issue` with the too-fast-talking-heavily-accented guy, including: Russia has a shortage of manpower for the war; there should be a Nuremberg-like trial of war criminals; more shelling of power plant could lead to nuclear disaster (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2151 monitoring: NOT confirmed, first broadcast UT Friday August 12 at 0130 on WRMI 7730 because it`s OFF THE AIR! Tuned in at 0124, no signal to UTwente nor Maryland, still off at several chex, but back ON by 0159 in time for Brother Scare, replacing R. Liberty at 0200-0300 but still at 0400-0500 per skedgrid, but 7730 is supposed to be on 1530-0630+, so hope this be only a one-time anomaly, especially since this happens to be the only WOR airing to the NE on 44-degree azimuth, good for the east coast and Europe, and S Asia? As WOR is no longer anytime on 15770 either tho still shown on skedgrid as Saturday 1930! Confirmed, however, first broadcast UT Friday August 12 at 0130 on WRMI 5850 to the NW; only S7/S9 into Maryland SDR, S9+30 into Missouri but stormnoisy, as also direct. Best into Georgia SDR at S9+25 and less noisy. Also confirmed UT Friday August 12 at 0330 on WRMI 7780 - again on Georgia SDR but no signal now feared also off; but on and audible into Missouri, S7/S9+10, noisy and not solid; despite way offbeam to the SW, best almost northward into Maryland, S5/S8. Also confirmed Friday August 12 at 1430 on WRMI 9955, S7/S9 direct and no jamming audible. 1428 preceded by ME? music buffer. Also confirmed Friday August 12 from 1815.4 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, good into nearby Noale SDR, with CCI in German from Romanian minolity service, sometimes overcoming during fadeup circa 1839; meanwhile the alt. or ex-frequency, 918 kHz has NO signals to cause QRM! //7290 via Bulgaria also, not checked until 1823 but presumably on from 1801. Additional monitoring before and after: 1323 kHz from 1753 tune-in, songs in Spanish, unknown program or fill; 1759 opens ``Country Jamboree``, but shortly it`s ``Country Style USA``, a US Army produxion, so originally on AFRTS? 1800 ``IRRS SW Milano, signing on`` which must be confusing for listeners on MW which is already on. `Feature Story News` including 1803 `Spotlite`. 1805 UN News. 1808.5 songs in English. 1814 open show of Irish music, soon chopped off 1815 for ID and 1815.4 WOR. Afterwards: 1844 song, ID, 1845 more music till 7290 chopped off at 1857*; 1323 continues to 1859 ``IRRS SW signing off`` offering QSL for reports to Milano PO Box which is otherwise denied, and Verdi theme, QRM from brief tone presumably Romania closing; 1323 still going at 1902.. Missed checking the WOR 2151 repeat at 2030 Fri Aug 12 on 1323 only, but has been quite reliable especially when 1815 had succeeded. Did anyone hear it? Note that next Friday 19th, being the third in August, WOR will be pre-empted by some monthly music show on SW & MW at 1815, but still at 2030 on 1323 only. Or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com Tim Gaynor notifies us Aug 13: `` Unique Radio Australia off air --- Hi everyone, Unique Radio will be on hold for a while whilst I move, due to a new job in radio. I will let you when it's back. The internet where I'm located isn't so good on uploads and this is a problem. I have tried to upload several times, on podcasts and they were really too slow and stopped. So whilst I investigate and search for a decent building and better internet speed, the station will be on hold. However, Jen will continue on her streamed programs as usual. This also applies to the shortwave. Thanks for your understanding. EiBi shows this one with strange hours of 1000-0800, but Aoki as 24 hours. Normally I`d not consider 3 Hz off as consequential, but what about VOA? MM had I=5 no QRM, and the language, content clinch it as not VOA, so we need exact current measurements of frequency of both, perhaps at other hours (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0017 UT August 13 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
