** CANADA. 93.5-WBFM, June 19 at 0148 & 0153 UT, a few words of French
Canadian overcome briefly the Kansan; checking sporadic E in the car
after seeing a spike above 100 MHz on the DX Map, to my NNW. Has to be
Canadian, and only two SRC possibilities, not the QC ones:

CBKF-FM-3 relays CBKF-FM 97.7 on 93.5 from ZENON PARK SK, 1.34 kW
ERP H&V, 122.0 m HAAT, 53-01-02 103-43-36 French VARIETY ICI
RADIO-CANADA PREMIERE

CKSB-7-FM relays CKSB-1050 on 93.5 from KENORA ON 20.0 kW ERP, 100.0 m
HAAT, 49-46-06 94-30-17 French NEWS/TALK ICI RADIO-CANADA PREMIERE

Per the WTFDA FM Database; how can one format be Variety and the other
News/Talk since they are the same network? Position of the MUF blob
suggests SK more likely, and certainly weak enough, Kenora also a good
skip distance not too far off the bearing; nor can I DF it on the
caradio vertical antenna. Distances: 1909 km = 1186 stmi from ZP SK,
which is about halfway between Prince Albert and the *town* of Hudson
Bay SK in the east-central; 1542 km = 958 stmi from Kenora in SW ON by
Lake of the Woods. ZP is really a tiny town of a couple hundred; its
History page does not explain where the name come from nor how it
differ from Xenon:
https://www.zenonpark.com/index.php/en/english-home/history

No other Es DX could be detected past 0200 UT on the lower half of the
band, scanning thru all the open or semi-open channels we are left
with. There were one or two random meteor bursts (Glenn Hauser, Enid
OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 12200, June 18 at 0551, RHC English is S6-S7 and JBM on 2 x
6100, which is S9+20/30 and undermodulated; 6145 is louder altho
weaker, S9+10/20; 6000 has not gone off yet, suptorted S9+20. All the
6`s confront storm noise level from Nebraska to W Central Ontario.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 9689.920, June 18 at 0601, surprised to find VON here with

All three VON frequencies are always considerably off-frequency-minus.
7255 is often AWOL, but haven`t noticed 9690- in quite a while; should
always be checked. One of the SSOB along with WBCQ and WRMI (Glenn

** U S A. QSL FROM Konstantin Barsenkov, St. Petersburg, Russia, TO
WORLD OF RADIO he heard on WRMI 7780:
https://www.w4uvh.net/RecRep%20WOR%20Jun.18-2020.jpg
Now #91 via http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html

With this message:
``Dear Mr. Glenn Hauser, My name is Konstantin Barsenkov, I am 45
years old, I was born and live in St. Petersburg, Russia. More than 25
years ago, one of my favourite hobbies was DX-ing (shortwave
monitoring). In the 90s there was no Internet, letters were long, and
international correspondence was quite expensive for a student.
About four years ago I decided to try it again. And now I'm passionate
about this hobby again. I still use my old Soviet military analog tube
receiver R-250M2 (it's probably older than me and it weighs 90 kg!)
with a long wire outdoor antenna.

Today I was pleasantly surprised to hear my name in your program World
of Radio. Earlier my message was published in the Anatoly Klepov's
bulletin Russ-DX Plus#858 and it was about Chinese jumming of Sound of
Hope.

Actually, I don't know if you send any QSL, but I'll be very
appreciated for your confirmation of the current reception report
(perhaps letter or any picture by email) and thanks in advance!``

Very nice, but please note WOR as a program does not offer QSLs,
leaving that to stations; only WRMI has a WOR-design QSL for reports
sent to them of receptions on WRMI only. I forwarded his report (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17775-, June 18 at 1425, KVOH is on and propagating but
again just barely modulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, June 17 at 1335, despite a new line
noise level 12.3-13.4 MHz peaking about 12.8: JBA carriers on known
frequencies 12550, 12800, 12880, 13130, 13160 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925-USB, e-QSL received June 16 from Texas Radio

thanks (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. See FMDX report 104.5 and 96.5 items

** TURKEY. 9830, June 17 at 2247, quick check for VOT finds it`s on
today, but I can still remark ``something`s always awry at Ankara``,
as just as I tune in, the YL is claiming this is the 1230 broadcast on
15450, into IS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28300-CW, June 17 at 1839, K6FRC/B beacon overtakes a couple
much weaker ones slightly lower. First time I`ve heard him on 10m, but
numerous times on 13565 with 1.8 milliwatts and no /suffix.

10 m beacon roster does not show that exact call, rather two others:
``28.300 K6FRC/B3 TRACY, CALIFORNIA 10W, VERTICAL QRT prior to 2016
28.300 K6FRC C TRACY, CALIFORNIA # 100W, "POGO stick" VERTICAL Freq
change 8 July 09
28.300 K6FRC/B2 TRACY, CALIFORNIA 10W, VERTICAL Backup transmitter for
K6FRC/B``

Tracy is further up I-5 toward Stockton, from Patterson, the 13565
QTH. Sporadic E opening.

From 1808 I was trying to copy some JBA beacons on 28299 and one just
slightly lower above 28298. At 1828 I almost got the higher one: VVV
DE K4J__ and more ending with SK. But there is no K4 listed around
28300.

28380-USB, June 17 at 1813, one phone ham audible, N6OPR, Bob, in
Gilbert AZ; and his 10-10 number is 45715. QRZ.com:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2038 monitoring: confirmed JBA Wed June 17 at
2100+ on WBCQ 7490v. Missed checking UT Thu June 18 at 0100 on WRMI
7780; did anyone hear it? Next WOR 2039 should be ready by early UT
Fri June 19 for first WRMI airing at 2200 on 9955 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 17775-, June 17 at 1822, KVOH is S9+10 steady with gospel
song in Spanish, but just barely modulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. DXMAP shows sporadic E MUF above 100 MHz in one spot NE of
here, so time to head for the car to tune for DX, June 17 at 2100 UT.

It takes me a lot longer to research the info and write these reports.
Main resource is the WTFDA FM Database. See its headers for what the
various parameters mean: separate H&V kW ERPs and metric HAAT towers
altho they are almost always the same. Distancefromto.net are
city-to-city approx., not to coordinates.

2114, 93.1, CCI to weak Kansan might be DX and so it is, atop now with
ID ``93.1 WZAK, Cleveland`` R&B, ads:

``WZAK 93.1 CLEVELAND OH USA 27.5 27.5 189.0 189.0 41-16-50 81-37-22
HD 96B6 WZAK-93.1 Cleveland - URBAN AC CLEVELAND'S R&B LEADER``
1508 km = 937 statute miles

2126, 96.5, PSAs about a religious event on E Pittsfield Rd canceled,
AC 570; ballots in western NY; ``a community service of WPEL``, fax
570-278-1442. VG full quieting brief peak; 2129 TC for 5:30 and SRN
News starting before it`s really 2130. WPEL in NE PA, close to NY:

``WPEL-FM 96.5 MONTROSE PA USA 57.0 57.0 140.0 140.0 41-51-16 75-51-50

STATION FOR INFORMATION & INSPIRATION`` 1986 km = 1234 stmi

2130, 96.7, unID local weather, too cool for OK!

It must be 90+F here; then I go inside where it`s a little cooler and
more comfortable, with the DX-398 whose telescopic I can manœvre vs
lots of ACI and CCI from KS and OK.

2149, 97.3, ad for something on Rt 13 between Ithaca and Dryden; 2150
mention Ithaca again; 2218, adstring including Airhard (Erhard?)
Energy.com, something in Newfield; JonRayhomes.com,
fingerlakestopten.com; Democratic DA candidate in Tompkins Country;
Finger Lakes forecast: 54/86 and next day 61/86 F, from ``WENY News on
97.3``. What?? WENY-FM is on 97.7 in Big Flats NY! O, they refer to
WENY, the unrelated(?) *TV* station in Elmira. The other clues all
lead to Ithaca, i.e:

``WYXL 97.3 ITHACA NY USA 26.0 26.0 268.0 268.0 42-27-54 76-22-23 HD
9669 WYXL97.3 LITE ROCK 97.3 TODAY'S VARIETY 97.3 Adult Hits ADULT
CONTEMPORARY LITE ROCK 97.3`` 1950 km = 1211 stmi

2153, 104.5 rap in Spanish, but signal is too steady and there are no
known SS in the PTA, just three translators in far New England. Rather
than a DX capture I guess it was really our semi-local, since it then
went into English promo for KZZW 104.5, ``we deliver the hits``,
English rock but there is CCI from something else in English.
Would be second EE Okie I`ve heard mixing in SS songs, after Oasis.

2201, ``Hottest music in the Tri-State Area, KZZW, 104.5,
Mooreland-Woodward``, OK. NYC/CT/NJ may think they own that monicker,
but there are 3-states everywhere, in this case OK/TX/KS. I remember
when this station came on air a few years ago, initially stunting with
classical, sure not to last.

``KZZW 104.5 MOORELAND OK USA 62.0 62.0 365.0 365.0 36-16-23 99-26-45
54A4 KZZW CONTEMPORARY HIT RADIO 104.5 KZZW`` 119 km = 74 stmi

2202, 92.1, ``WOLF-FM, --- [some HD IDs missed], Syracuse`s 92.1, The
Wolf``:

``WOLF-FM 92.1 BALDWINSVILLE NY USA 25.0 25.0 99.0 99.0 43-09-10
76-11-35 84A5 COUNTRY 92.1 THE WOLF`` Baldwinsville just NW of
Syracuse
1982 km = 1231 stmi

2204, 96.5, Dollar Bank Loan Experts ad; plug iHeart Radio podcast
from 10/16/72, Non-IDs at 2205 & 2208 as ``Mix 96.5``. May be mixing
with KRAV Tulsa fringer which is Mix 96.5, but we never heard of
Dollar Bank in OK. Search indicates it operates only in OH, PA, VA.

There are too many iHeart stations everywhere, but Wikipedia shows no
96.5s in PA, NY; there is one in Cleveland OH, WAKS, branded as KISS
FM, so maybe that`s it. 1508 km = 937 stmi

Searching everywhere for slogan as Mix 96.5 on 96.5, gets 5 hits, not
including KRAV-FM Tulsa, none in this opening`s PTA. That`s because
the Slogan field for KRAV shows merely Mix 96, altho 96.5 does appear
as part of PS Info and Radiotext fields. 171 km = 106 stmi

2210, 93.3, Roswell Park Cancer hospital ad; 2212 Litehouseauto.com,
Ike`s Auto Repair, phone 763-8945. Roswell Park is in Buffalo, but
Lite House Auto is in Lakewood NY, and the phone matches Pikes (not
Ike`s) Auto Repair of Ashville NY, both of which are just outside
Jamestown in western NY, so this is:

``WWSE 93.3 JAMESTOWN NY USA 26.5 26.5 196.0 196.0 42-05-06 79-17-22
A998 WWSE-FM No Program Type or Undefined ADULT CONTEMPORARY SE 93``
1721 km = 1070 stmi

2213, 93.1, adstring, attorney at 800-565-7187; Zero Draft Insulation;
``This is KNN, the Kia News Network`` being cute, really an ad for Kia
of East Syracuse. RDS captured on this one: static 93Q plus 5 blank
spaces, nor sure if sent that way or incomplete; more ads, Plato`s
Closet; PSAs alz.org-cny, Boys` & Girls` Club of Syracuse. Therefore:

``WNTQ 93.1 SYRACUSE NY USA 97.0 97.0 201.0 201.0 42-56-48 76-01-28 HD
78FA 93Q The #1 Hit Music Station 93Q Title & Artist CD name Top 40
CONTEMPORARY HIT RADIO 93 Q`` 1993 km = 1239 stmi

2227, 99.5, 1-800-663-7636, Insight for Living, addresses in BC and
TX; 2229 Financial Moments with Tom Copeland, the gospel-huxter take
with Biblical quotations; 2230, ``You are listening to North America`s
most powerful Christian radio station, WDCX``, next g.h. In Touch with
Dr. Charles Stanley. Strong but no RDS.

``WDCX-FM 99.5 BUFFALO NY USA 110.0 110.0 195.0 195.0 42-38-07

WDCX Serving Buffalo, Toronto & Beyond-Now Playing PROGRAM/S
RELIGION/CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN LIFE FM // WDCZ-970``
So the power is 110 kw ERP, rather than the usual limit of 100, why?
Grandfathered like Grand Rapids? Big deal; I can think of several SW
stations with more than that, but never mind them! 1775 km = 1103 mi

2232, 106.9, traffic report from ``570 WSYR now also on 106.9 FM``::

``WSYR-FM 106.9 SOLVAY NY USA 9.0 9.0 124.0 124.0 43-00-10 76-11-58

570WSYR Now on 106.9FM Talk NEWS/TALK FM NEWS RADIO 106.9 WSYR``
1988 km = 1235 stmi

2238, 96.5, CCI including RDS 96.5 and four spaces; then AC/DC_/_, and
aurally ``Mix 96`` again, so at least part of that KRAV Tulsa.

2241, 95.1, Ads for Ron Burgundy podcasts from iHeart; attorney vs
robocalls 1-800-300-2990, Kenneth Wallace; Palmer`s Direct-to-You
Market, with unlimited Angus beef; 900 something Henryetta; Allstate;
JCP.com; Bob John`s Used.com cars; has RDS icon but blank at first;
Rochester weather; Tom Wall`s restaurant; iHeart Radio app for
podcasts; now RDS shows I_RADIO_ --- the underscores here indicate a
blank, no underscore really on the RDS. The first blank must be for a
Heart symbol; is that possible? Not on my DX-398; 2245 ``Radio 95-1``

``WAIO 95.1 HONEOYE FALLS NY USA 50.0 50.0 146.0 146.0 43-02-01

Classic Rock CLASSIC ROCK RADIO 95.1``. Honeoye Falls --- how do you
pronounce that?? is south of Rochester. 1877 km = 1166 stmi

Now the opening seems fading away; I hope so as this is tiring and I
need a break. But at 0040-0050 UT June 18, I`m back at the dials as
there is a 100+ MHz MUF blob to the north, so maybe Manitoba? Nothing.

*0036, and deadly Gene Scott modulation cut on at 0041. After that to
avoid splash, LSB tuning preferred. 0105 recheck, only one very weak
signal circa 5930. EiBi and Aoki/NDXC agree that the only thing on
5930 is BBC Dari via Moosbrunn at 0030, but supposed to continue at
0100 in Pashto. Is the Moosbrunn site now subjected to
offfrequenciness or other problems? Or could transmissions have been

WA3PBL USA flag USA, CHRISTOPHER E HUDAK, MC DONALD, PA 15057 USA

``Chris is a Broadcast engineer and has tweaked the knobs on many
broadcast transmitters. He enjoys building, tinkering, and playing
with all sorts of RF gear, antennas, and computers. Loves Dxing,
working the low bands and frequents 160 meters. During the latest
solar Cycle, Chris managed to fill in a few remaining blanks and
completed the ARRL Five band DXCC award 80 through 10 meters! The
transmitter photo is one of the original transmitters used at KDKA
through the early 1970's along with a few other pics from the KDKA
archives shown below. Scroll down the page to see various photos from
around the WA3PBL ham shack along with a few pics of the antenna farm.
The main 160/80 meter transmit antenna consists of a 3- wire shunt fed
unipole built around the Rohn tower supporting the legendary Moseley
TA-33 tri-bander. Thanks for stopping by ! smiley

HF sporadic E but nothing caught into VHF FM band today (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. 7460, June 16 at 0526, S9/+10 African language,
mentions Somali, also with bits of French voiced-over, but chopped off
the air in mid-word at 0529*; there was also some noise on the
carrier. It`s VOA in Kinyarwanda via BOTSWANA at 0500-0530 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4840, June 16 at 0613, dead air from WWCR-3. TOMBS is
supposed to start at 0600 M-F; was it dead clear thru until 1200? One
can only hope (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ALGERIA [non]. 9620, June 15 at 0602, RTA via FRANCE, Arabic song
accompanied by self-imposed beep QRM; not always applied here, but it
should be never (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 12880, June 15 at 1352, CNR1 jammer at S6-S7; also JBA
carriers presumed more of same on 12800, 12820, 12950; other ranges
not checked (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN. 13680, June 14 at 2132, harp music and Japanese talk, S3-S8;
it`s NHK direct, 300 kW backwards from 235 degrees at 21-24, not often
heard (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 515-MCW kHz, June 14 at 2140 UT check, NDB PN from Ponca
City is already back on after AWOL last night. It`s always had, and
still does, a slight `chirp` on its tone modulation. The other three
much weaker nominally 25-watt Okies are also still on, 255, 341 and
350 kHz (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, June 15 at 2247 check, VOT is not off today, music at
S7-S9+10 and no RTTY (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28231-CW, June 15 at 1439, dits and FM17 gridsquare,
alternating with WA4FC/B, the beacon in Virginia again today via HF if
not VHF sporadic E. I am beginning to wonder where all the hundreds of
other beacons are on the list?

28400-USB, June 15 at 1441, hardly any phone activity on 10m, but an
unID here as he does not enunciate his call clearly or at all in
handovers, but he is ``in the mountains, Gary, across from the Blue
Ridge Mountains`` --- that narrows it down (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2038 monitoring: confirmed UT
Monday June 15 at 0130 & 0230 on WRMI 7780, VG via Maine SDR.

(Also on WRN webcast at 0130 June 15; and still on 7780 at 0230
despite contradictory WRMI info of something else there.)

Also confirmed at 0300 June 15 on Area 51 via WBCQ 5130, good at
Rochester NY but S9 here vs high storm noise level.

Also confirmed at 0330 June 15 on WRMI 9955, F-G S9/+10 here, no
jamming audible.

Also confirmed from 1800.8 UT Monday June 15 on IRRS 7290-Bulgaria as
heard via UTwente SDR, VG but usual rough modulation. Spotchex until
1830 did not find any interruptions. Earlier on 7290: Iran went off at
1750*. IRRS OC on at *1756.5; 1758.8 cut on modulation, fragment of
some unknown report; 1800 IRRS ID and address this time pronouncing
Milano correctly, Feature Story News from Washington quick headlines,
right into WOR. At end 1830, fragment of hymn by child; IRRS ID
recommending tuning via USB synch, which is N/A now as far as avoiding
ACI. Next:

** U S A. 93.5-WBFM MHz, June 15 at 0100 UT, in a futile bandscan for
sporadic-E DX as possible by the MUF maps, I stop here for a while as
a weak signal is fading completely out and back up as if it were
ionospheric --- but it`s only grounwavic at fringe-range, C&W music,
ID as ``KKDT, Burdett-Hays-Great Bend``, Kansas, one minute of totally
dispensable Fox `news`, back to C&W. Burdett doesn`t even make it into
index of my Rand McNally road atlas, and I don`t see it anywhere
between Hays and Great Bend. I have to break out the hefty Large-Scale
Rand McNally, to find its population was 247, so why does such a tiny
town get a 95 kW ERP FM station? Maybe CoL is the only place a new
full-power signal could be shoved in? But radio-locator.com shows its
site is nowhere near Burdett, which is halfway westward from Great
Bend to Dodge City. Instead, site is halfway between Ness City and
Hays, well north of Burdett; approx. 300 km = 185 miles from Enid. 22
hours later in another Es search I`m getting it likewise (Glenn
Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 13130, June 14 at 1352, CNR1 jammer at S6-S8, presumably
also the JBA carriers on 13070, 12870, 12820; further bands not tried
today, time for breakfast. BTW, it`s a long time since I have heard
any Firedragon musical jamming instead (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6935-USB, pirate Radio Nova log in last report got
an unsolicited e-QSL in about an hour:

``Thanks for your report via WOR that you received our broadcast this

your reception next time will be better. An eQSL verifying your
reception is attached. 73, RADIO NOVA`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 515-MCW kHz, June 14 at 0558 UT, NDB PN in Ponca City is
OFF --- first time I`ve noticed it absent. Easy come, easy go? Just
after 314-MCW kHz, EI in Enid came back after 3 months, and not long
ago 255-MCW kHz, SW in Stillwater came back. All allegedly 25 watts,
but PN was always much stronger, also than the other regular
groundwave Okie, 350-MCW kHz, RG at Will Rogers World Airport, SW OKC
All three of those still running, altho EI has CCI from OIN in Oberlin
KS, almost the same pitch too. PN still off at 1347 UT, the others
still on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 25000, June 14 at 1720, WWV S8-S9 due to short-skip sporadic
E opening, with HF spots all over the country; yet no activity on the
24890-24990 12-meter hamband (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 28290-CW, June 14 at 1726, JBA beacon; try again
at 1757 when it`s slightly better, enough to copy: AL AL AL DE WJ5O/B
WJ5O/B W5JO/B. QRZ.com:

``WJ5O Primary only for: WJ5O/B WILLIAM H HAYS Troy, AL 36079 USA

Regardless of where We are in the sunspot cycle, I'm 99% a 10 Meter
Operator. The WJ5O propagation beacon can be heard on 28.289.3 MHz and
has been in operation since June 1992 running two Watts into a roof
mounted Vertical. Please "click" on My page to see the beacon set-up
and a current listing of Worldwide Ten Meter Beacons.
http://www.qsl.net/wj5o/
USAF retired SMSgt 1971 (Aircraft Maintenance)``

I had already crossed his path by searching on ten meter beacons, to
find the very same guy is responsible for this huge frequency list!
https://www.qsl.net/wj5o/bcn.htm
and his own entry is:
``28.2893 WJ5O C TROY ALABAMA # 2W VERTICAL New Frequency 25 Jan 14``
C=CONTINUOUS I=INTERMITTENT #=CONFIRMED AS ACTIVE OR HEARD

Yes, it was on the low side of 28290-, and now we know the AL means
Alabama rather than part of a grid square. Also:

28231, WA4FC/B, Prince George, Virginia audible again, 1723 June 14;

28276.5, unID at 1726, just too weak, but the only one on this exact
frequency is: ``28.2765 XE2WK C VICTORIA, TAMAULIPAS MEX # 5W,
VERTICAL NEW new Call July 09``.

During all this only a couple of JBA phone signals in the 28.4+ MHz
area, but plenty of hetty AM pileups on CB, mainly 27025, and LSB
freebanders on 27405, 27425, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
