Hauser
** ANTARCTICA. Adding to previous report on the extended broadcast of
LRA36, 15475.98-CUSB, July 11 as heard via Brasília KiwiSDR: Kept
playing nothing but music from Miguel Figueroa y Su Conjunto,
including shout-outs by the leader but no station announcements, past
1800, 1824, and still past 1900 and past when I finally quit at 1912+.
Manuel Méndez in Spain reported, ``At about 1940 signal weakened and
became inaudible. 15321``

I found this link to more about his group and many performances, and
BTW, July 9 was independence day in Argentina, so maybe that explains
this broadcast on I.D. weekend?
https://www.facebook.com/miguelfigueroaysuconjuntoamancercampero/
Citing here does not imply endorsement by gh of disgraced FB.

Now, Horacio Nigro posts to the WOR iog:

``Friends and colleagues such as Horacio Nigro Geolkiewsky and
Alejandro Álvarez have suggested on various occasions to evaluate the
performance of the transmitter in use by LRA36 Radio Nacional Arcángel
San Gabriel in USB mode. I transmitted this concern to the operator
and technical manager of the station, Mr Damian Tranamil, who
considered it possible to carry out some tests taking into account
both the mode of emission and the propagation at the appropriate
time.

That is why the next Saturday, July 18 and 25, between 1700 pm [sic]
and 2300 UT, there will be test broadcasts of LRA 36 on the frequency
of 15476 khz USB mode. Reports of reception to
tranalra36@radionacional.gov or to Facebook Esperanza San Gabriel.
Confirm via eQSL. Diffusion appreciated (Adrian Korol, RAE, Buenos
Aires Argentina via Horacio Nigro Geolkiewsky, Montevideo, Uruguay,
July 12)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** AUSTRIA. 11620, July 12 at 0614, YL in French; BBC via Moosbrunn
listed this hour only; tuning across in USB, hear a LAH so seemed
off-frequency, but measured within a couple Hz of .000. The LAH is
axually some hum on the audio, another indicator of trouble at this
transmitter site (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 15340, July 12 at 1258, Chinese at S6-S8; Aoki shows Sound
of Hope relaying RFA via Pingtung, Taiwan site all the way from 00 to
17 with only 1 kW; so this is certainly CNR1 *jamming.

14870, July 12 at 1259, JBA algo, Chinese? An SOH frequency, so CNR1
jamming.

More thorough CNR1 jammer survey, July 12 from 1305, a most active
hour in local primetime of 9 pm:

1305, 13835 with two signals mixing, the victim being RFA Tibetan via
TAJIKISTAN this hour only. Also single signals on 13160, 13150.

1310: 12880 S7-S9; 12870; 12800 echo; 11460; 11150; 11120; 11100
S4-S7; 10920; 10820 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 9940, July 12 at 1317, slow rather wistful song
at S6-S9, 1320 Korean talk and more music. It`s Nippon no Kaze via
Paochung, TAIWAN site during this semihour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA [non?]. 15120, July 12 at 0621, JBA carrier, possibly Voice
of Nigeria; when I heard this broadcast on 11770- instead of 9690-
instead of 7255-, I remarked, ``what`s next, 15120?``. Tonight all
three lower frequencies are vacant, and 19m is barely propagating
anything, the Midnight Sun helping.

However, CRI Beijing site is on 15120 at 0300-0700; Nigeria supposedly
in DRM only, when active at various times between 0900 and 1900. Other
JBA AM carriers on 19m now: 15160 correlating with China, 15180 with
North Korea, and 15400 with BBC Madagascar (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950-SSTV, July 12 at 0131 tune-in to SSTV beepery
in progress; hard to pin down in USB tuning, not having heard any
voice, also audible on 6951, but I notice no sound listening on AM.
S9+10 via indoor longwire due to local storms; pause and soon start
another SSTV and then apparently off, nothing further. Many logs here
as KDOG, with many previous SSTV images mostly of --- dogs:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,69365.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SCOTLAND [non]. 5850, UT Sun July 12 at 0137, `Encore` classical
music via WRMI, VG here and VP on // 5010. Hope to catch the rest of
it from 0200 UT Mon on 9455 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SINGAPORE. 15145, July 12 at 1258, S7-S9 of BBCWS English promotion
to 1259*, this hour only via Kranji, 250 kW at 13 degrees across China
and USward, and per Aoki also *jammed but none heard here. Far too
many Chinese understand English, so even BBC Must Be Jammed to keep
them ignorant (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Once again while waiting/hoping for the Es MUF to penetrate
the FMBC band, I check out the 10m hambeaconband, mostly relogs:

28281-CW, July 12 at 1810, DE W8EH FM79, i.e.:
``28.281 W8EH C MIDDLETOWN OHIO # 8W, GP VERTICAL``

28254.5-CW, July 12 at 1812, VVV VVV DE K4JEE/B, i.e.:
``28.2545 K4JEE C LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY # 5W, VERTICAL New 6 Nov
11``

28325-CW, July 12 at 1814, partial ID as W0R--, big fade up and out,
but not listed by WJ5O, as slightly above its beacon sub-band limit.
Seemed like a beacon, as CW QSOs would be down toward 28000.

28217.7-CW, July 12 at 1849 after lunch, VVV VVV DE K4PAR/B and more
in long message of 26 seconds, and long pause of 28 seconds before
repeating, i.e.:
``28.2177 K4PAR C EATONTON, GEORGIA NEW 1 JUNE 2019``

Nothing about the beacon on this page but mentioned briefly on own

28286.5-CW, July 12 at 1852, WB0BIN without any /B, alternating fast

(Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2042 monitoring: confirmed UT Sunday July 12
at 0300 on WRMI 5800; vs high storm noise level nearby.

Not confirmed between 0300 & 0400 UT Sun July 12 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM,
MO, as just too much storm noise even via inside longwire to copy
anything; abates slightly at 0404 when I can recognize Vern`s voice.

** U S A. 7490.04 approx, UT Sun July 12 at 0134, dead air from WBCQ,
typical offset frequency. `Shortwave Saturday Night` with Pirate Joe,
J.P. Ferraro is supposed to run 0100-0400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 14400-AM, July 12 at 1304, rather steady S6 open
carrier. Not an Aoki-listed CNR1 jamming channel (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 14486-USB, July 12 at 1300, 2-way in Spanish, weak but
stronger one mentions some numbers, and different tones in background
maybe music or just hum (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-CUSB, July 11 at 1400, special USB test
broadcast publicized from LRA36 for one hour, but no signal direct to
here, so on to Brazilian KiwiSDRs: the best one at Pardinho is already
maxed out; no signal at Campo or Rio, but good via Brasília so I stay
on that for the duration.

1402, songs are playing; 1410 Spanish announcements, ID, and I think a
quick one in English and maybe another language, all the rest in
Spanish. Lots and lots of conversation; they certainly have no lack of
stuff to talk about, but I have a hard time making it out without a
loud and clear signal. Do the Esperanzans ever explain the scientific
research they are carrying out; if any, or are they just there to
maintain Argentina`s questionable claim to this sector of the
supposedly ``international`` continent?

1417, contact info which they also repeat periodically. I tune the SDR
to 15476.00 exactly in Synchronous AM mode and watch the readout of
the ``carrier``, constantly jumping around in Hz: 152, 211, 201, 199,
173, 169, 190, 197 etc. I`m not sure if this be significant and
exactly what it mean --- maybe attempting to lock onto it minus some
200 Hz without success since carrier is so far reduced. Yes, there is
a carrier, obvious if you tune to 15475.0-USB and hear the het/tone.
This broadcast had been publicized as something new in USB as if it
had not been in USB all the time. Maybe the carrier has been reduced
more than usual, but not eliminated.

By 1450 it`s faded up better, with laughter, song, but by 1454 I`m
distracted by TVDX from The Metroplex: see USA. 1458, ``Nacional, La
República`` ID as this may be simulcast on the domestic LRA network,
and multi-digit phone number, toll-free? 1507-1520, caller with a very
hoarse voice, outro ID as Alejandro Ortiz; seems like he`s at one of
the other bases? 1521 music and program ID as `Corazón Antártico`..
1542 mention Adrián Korol, head of RAE who apparently arranged this
broadcast. 1558 another caller ends, ID, jingle; 1601 credit plugs for
regular Wednesday show, music, yet another caller. 1621 music bit,
1640 song with bandoneón, music only still going past 1700. Really
nice and I stick with this instead of Gounod`s Faust on KUCO. 1718
says its ``Miguel Figueroa y su Conjunto``. Still 1725+. 1730, another
brief plug for `Corazón Antártico`, miércoles 11-13` local time, but
that`s also name of program now at 1732. 1739+, To be continued?

[non] But from 1605 to 1700 it`s in the background as I was mainly
listening to `The Score` on KUCO-FM webcast, this week tributing the
late Ennio Morricone, with his great cinemusic, to be continued next
week! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. CNR1 jammer survey, July 11 from 1322, and there
are lots of them, starting with the only one with equal level from
victim:

15165, S8/S9+10 two Chinese talkers mixing, so in this case only, VOA
is holding its own at least over here if not inside China. It`s 13-14
only via THAILAND, and from that angle the 14-degree azimuth is also
aimed toward us far beyond (like HSK9`s NAm service at 6 or 38 degrees
which never comes in this well after 0000).

Now to quick scan of all the others, not all evaluated for strength or
//, some presumed, and never any Firedragon music: 15130; 14500 JBAC;
13835 echo; 13530 S9/+10; 13160; 12880; 12870 S9+10/20; 12820 S3-5;
12800 S8-9; 12500 S5-9; 12190 S4-7 vs CODAR.

By now it`s 1331, continuing: 11460; 11440; 11170 S4-7; 11150; 11100;
10960 JBAC; 10920; 10870; 10820; (10370 not // music --- oops, that`s
11760 RHC minus local 1390 KCRC mix); 10160 JBAC; 9300; 9255; 9230;
9215; 9200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5040, July 11 at 0547, RHC not in wrong language Spanish, but
instead English tonight, // 6000 distorted, 6100 & 6145 good, 12200
poor; so we again have a `Cuban 5` despite deletion of 6060.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 7335, 7345, 7465, 7405, 7435, July 11 at 0556, residual
jamming on all these Martí frequencies, even the DRM one, despite it
being totally off SW between 04 & 10 UT for months now. They do not
all sound exactly the same, different pulsing and pitching. The
incompetent and hugely wasteful Jamming Command also has no
consideration for innocent bystations. Think how many undernourished
Cubans could be fed for the cost of all that electropower alone!
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY. 3955, reply from The Mystery Pirate to my report of
hearing music from something via remote from 0200 July 11:

``Hi Mr. Hauser - A problem at Channel 292 prevented our program from
airing this morning. What you heard, I believe, was 292's "filler"
music, transmitted when they have no paid programming.

The program will air at 0200 UTC tomorrow, July 12, 2020. If you could
let your readers know, I'd appreciate it.

Yours truly, The Mystery Pirate. We're a mystery to ourselves``

Also asked someone else not to publicize e-mail address, so people
have to search it out. Not the way to encourage reports. I already
showed it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Bill Hepburn`s tropo forecast map for 15 UT July 11 shows a
convoluted mess around here, levels 1, 2 and 3 between here and The
Metroplex, whence I soon find some signals into my broken antenna at
roof level on a bent mast, not even pointing horizontally:

Bandscan starting at 1524 UT finds a few signals barely decoding:
RF 30, 29-1, KMPX-HD [1000 kW, Decatur TX, Estrella TV]
RF 31, 55-1, Azteca [KAZD, 1000 kW, Lake Dallas TX]
RF 21, 58-1, TBN-HD [KDTX-TV, 736 kW, Dallas; all as W9WI.com listed]
RF 14, 13-1, KERA-HD PSIP showing at 1608 captured when not looking

Also many BAD signals probably mostly from same area: 32, 35, 36, 11,
20, 26. BTW, W9WI.com shows *2* Dallas stations on RF 36: KDFI-27 and
Spanish KXTX-TV 39; that can`t be right, simultaneously (Glenn Hauser,

** BRAZIL. 11780, July 11 at 0020, RNA is S9+10/20 but suptorted =
suppressed and distorted modulation again tonight. Is no one at Parque
Rodeador site paying attention? // 6180 however is about as strong
with good modulation, somewhat more fading (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHAD [non]. 12050, July 10 at 0619, fluttery French at S4-S7. Aoki
shows R. Ndarason International in Kanuri via Woofferton UK at
0600-0700; but EiBi is more detailed with a French segment at
0615-0625 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 13530 & 13130, July 10 at 1358, the only CNR1 jammers heard
in the 12-13s, altho I`m on inside longwire only due to storming.

10920, July 10 at 1446, JBA carrier probably CNR1 jammer against Sound
of Hope as listed; the only WOOB such signal in the 10-14 MHz range
now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, July 10 at 1449, S9/+10 of dead air or maybe JBM;
something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11670, July 11 at 0023, this RHC is suptorted but no +/- 39
kHz spurs like last night. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 4765, July 11 at 0116, R. Progreso, music with OK modulation,
S9+10/20; back on air after missing a few nights. Something`s always
wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA [non]. At 0226 UT Sat July 11 I wrote to
mysterypirateradio@gmail.com -- NO 3955 signal here in OK, nor at the
Rockport Maine SDR, so I listen via UTwente in Holland, from 0158 past
0225 UT there are songs with pauses, but no announcements heard so
have no idea whether it is really your program. I did publicize this
on World of Radio, and reminded the WOR iogroup less than half an hour
before:

``Their attempt for North America is imminent, 0200 UT Sat on 3955
from Germany. Certainly no signal here at 0138 check if it`s on. Lots
of storm noise and doubt hams will clear the channel. Maybe to east
coast remotes? Glenn``

No replies to that and only an autoreply from MPR. However, by 0255,
Maine SDR was getting a JBA carrier on 3955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS. 13790.049, July 10 at 0622, S7-S9 of
Chinese, the SSOB at this later hour when there might be nothing this
high except in midsummer. RFA via SAIPAN is scheduled, and altho there
is of course ChiCom jamming as well, this off-frequency signal only
points to really Saipan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, July 10 at 2218, quick check of VOT English on TWR
Bonaire SDR as I tune away from WORLD OF RADIO: No signal today.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2042 monitoring: confirmed first WRMI
broadcast, Friday July 10 at 2200 on 9955 --- JBA here, so check
KiwiSDRs where it`s aimed; good at both TWR Bonaire and Pardinho SP
Brasil; occasional trace of jamming underneath at fades.

Also confirmed here at 0139 the 0130 trimulcast on WRMIs: 5010
S9+10/20 vs high storm noise level; 7780 S9/+10 but slightly less
noise; 5850 VG S9+30/40 aimed thisaway. Comparing to Pardinho SP
Brasil at 0150: 5010 best, 5850 sufficient surprisingly since it`s
headed NW from FL; and worse 7780 to the NE. Next:

** U S A. (7490), UT Sat July 11 at 0002, tune in WBCQ webcast as
`William Tell Overture` is finishing, `AAAWWW` starting. They always
begin with a similar lovefest of compliments, so is this new? No, soon
they talk about Allan being topless in the FL heat, nicknames, which I
know I have heard before in the last few weeks, so it`s a rerun.
Direct on SW checked at 0018, 7490 is close to .0 and best but only
fairly heard; 6159.9 also active, probably not synchronized, but poor
in noise; and 5130 a JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 27385-LSB, July 10 at 2053, freebanders hopping all over
11 meters, here one calling CQDX from Mississippi, soon CCI mentioning
South Florida, West Virginia; seems they also have some kind of
numerical IDs. No higher MUF sporadic E DX heard today (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

Hauser
** CHINA. 12500 & 11100, July 9 at 1411, only CNR1 jammers, JBA and
presumed, none others found in the WOOB 10s, 11s, 12s or 13s. Likely
many more were around before 1400* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11631 & 11709, July 10 at 0218, a new set of S9 RHC
spurblobs! plus and minus 39 kHz from 11670, which is S9+20 and
distorted. F# tones also audible on fundamental and spurs, like in the
mornings circa 13700; had also heard them circa 15370 afternoon,
evidently all same transmitter, but the offset quite different here.
Also a trace of second-order with F# circa 11748 and third, 11787, but
could not be sure of a minus match on 11592. Something`s always wrong
at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 6185-, July 9 at 0628, XEPPM, off-frequency-minus at S9-S7,
and more modulation than usual after JBA carrier yesterday (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7254.9, July 9 at 0627, VON is back on nominal channel
today after excursion to 11769.9 yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6945-AM, July 10 at 0240 rock music, S9 including
heavy storm noise level; YL ID sounds like ``You are tuned to ----
dot.com``; another at 0254 and music stops by 0300*. Many reports here
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,69271.0.html
as Mix Radio International from 0035, but none later than 0202 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ROMANIA. 9700, July 9 at 0226, jazz on VG S9+10/20 signal from
what? Not NZ this early, still on much weaker 13840 with someething
else. Answer at 0229 ID: RRI in Spanish, and then found //7375 almost
as good (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28284.8-CW, July 9 at 1449, VVV N9TNY/B EN51, relog of
Geneva IL beacon, slow WPM and long pause between iterations. So
Geneva already has a SW station before any WPBC.

28286.5-CW, July 9 at 1455, WB0BIN, beacon alternating fast and slower
WPMs. WJ5O roster shows:
``28.2865 WBØBIN C SABIN, MINNESOTA # 7W, GP VERTICAL New 22 April
18`` --- Sabin is just SE of Moorhead-Fargo. QRZ.com:

IT WAS A JOINT EFFORT FROM THE BEACON COMMITTEE AND THE LOCAL HAMS WHO
GAVE A THUMBS UP AND STATED THE BEACON NEVER SOUNDED SO GOOD. LETS

** U S A. 9955, July 9 at 1417, WRMI is on with algo in Spanish, off
by 1443 recheck; contrary to own schedule showing WRMI-3 goes beyond
1400 only on weekends, and the webcast carries Freedom Synergy Radio
M-F at 1400-1500. I suppose that could have been partially in Spanish,
altho when we first monitored it evenings, it kept stuck to English
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15610, July 9 at 2125 check, WEWN English is still AWOL for
at least the sixth day in a row; ditto the night frequency 9385 at
0225 July 10 check. A few summers ago absence was explained due to
mowing the antenna farm, but that should hardly take a week, and
Spanish remains active on 12050/5970 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO
2042)
