** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Wed Feb 23 at 1522 tune-in: both Brasília SDRs are offline; at Pardinho is JBA, but Campo gets S2 from LRA36: music and talk; 1528 ``Nacional Antártida Argentina, en todo el país, la radio pública`` --- I assume they think this is relayed all over Argentina on the Nacional network: is that true? Music and talkbits alternate, frequent IDs. 1533 ``Radio Nacional Arcángel San Gabriel`` ID; 1536 ``Nacional, la radio pública``. 1541 something about Poland. 1543 email, song mentioning Esperanza but not the themesong, never heard today. 1546 LRA36 & RNASG IDs.
BTW, it`s 10 degrees F in Enid, colder than Esperanza? Yes, much! See https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/antarctica/esperanza-base checked at 1740 UT, it`s a balmy +40 F there, melting. But at South Pole it`s minus 50 F, whew! And guess from which direxion the wind is blowing? North! Back to my logging: 1555 LRA36 & RNASG IDs. 1558 email, historical talk. Now it`s peaking at S3. 1601 ID, efemérides, = historical/anniversary items, something from the 1800s, more likely about continental Argentina than this outpost. 1612 email, 15476. 1614 song with birdchirps. 1616 NAA, LRP IDs. 1620 ID, song. 1623 the SDR times out after one hour. Check Corral one in Argentina, JBA; nothing at LU4AA; 1625 nothing at west Iceland; 1626 nothing at Montevideo. Maybe have just signed off, as it`s high time. 1627 Pardinho check: only S8 noise level! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6060, Feb 23 at 0718, only RHC still on but S9+10 of nothing but hum. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9899.608+, Feb 23 at 2124, R. Cairo, S9+30 into UTwente with extreme distortion, presumed English, totally unreadable. Something remains egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Feb 23 at 0553, definite carrier already, surely R. Kiribati a sesquihour after London sunset, rather than anything TA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. 6185-, Feb 23 at 0713, XEPPM with song in English about monkeys with droning bassline, S9/+10 and better modulation than usual. Eclectic music format and sometimes listenable. Always slightly off-frequency-minus but not measured, compared e.g. to 6155 Austria. Last report Feb 13 from Gianni Serra, Italy, put it on 6184.97 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 515 MCW kHz, Feb 23 at 0551, PN, 25-watt NDB at PoNca City is back on after latest outage; was still off during day Feb 22 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Feb 23 at 2307 after the news, REE token triweekly English semihour N American frequency is not off the air, others not checked as I`m tuned for content via VG Maryland remote: by Amy Egan about Rosalía de Castro, Galician poet who promoted the Gallego language which had been denigrated. Her collexion `Cantares Gallegos` also set to music with some examples. Interview clips in Castilian handled the right way, minimizing voice-overing into English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.017+, Feb 23 at 2300, VOT English is not off the air today, VG via UTwente, but at first I`m mainly listening to simulSpain. ToH timesignals about 2 seconds apart. 2315 plays same commentary as yesterday by the PhD student at Exeter about ``US provoked Russia in order to maintain its global primacy`` --- huh?? Enough of that. Yet I get the impression that Turkey is siding with Ukraine. Recheck 2354, already in IS, this time with English IDs, rapid SAH and off at 2356* before it can switch to German, uncovering PBS Xinjiang, East Turkistan, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs and other Moslems. If I were listening from within N America, there would be less CCCCCCI from it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2126 monitoring: ``From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees. Dear Glenn: 5850 kHz, slept almost past it, later start but heard #2126, 1042, 1046, 1050 (55444), (55434), 1059, Feb 23 UTC 2022 (Lemke, Richard -AB)`` Also confirmed via UTwente, Wednesday February 23 from 2200:19.5 on WBCQ 7490.061v kHz as carrier offset plus, accurate since calibrated against WWV 10000 the next minute varying slightly plus/minus 1 Hz. --- Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. ** EGYPT. 9899.607, Feb 22 at 2156, R. Cairo very strong into UTwente, slightly less suptorted than usual but still unlistenable. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** GREECE. 9420, Feb 22 at 2314, VOG is back on after missing a few days, making us fear it`s gone for good. S9+10/15 with music into UTwente, but lower modulation level than Türkiye 5960. It was first reported reactivated today at 1945 by Richard Langley, NB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.006, Feb 22 at 2317 via UTwente, VOT English is on, but no guarantee it really started by 2300! S9+25/30 with music, good modulation, 2318 COVID PSA; 2319 2-minute multilingual ID reel filler; 2321 ``Wavelength Commentary`` penned by ---, PhD candidate at University of Exeter(?), titled ``US provoked Russia in order to maintain its global primacy`` --- huh?? Enough of that. 2348 recheck IS plays after generic sign-off for several English times. 2356 fade-down IS and restart, now with German IDs interspersed. 2400 5+1 timesignal with that from CCCCCCI JBA underneath; sign-on in German for the 1230 outsending which really is supposed to be on SW, 15270. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. Before next recheck 2410, VOT is off uncovering PBS Xinjiang with CNR1 in imperialist Mandarin, land of ChiCom genocide, ``re-education`` and slave labor among native Uyghurs and other Moslems of East Turkistan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2126 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday February 22 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, S9+12 into Minneapolis KiwiSDR. Missed checking Tue Feb 22 at 2330 on WRMI 9955; anyone hear it? Next: 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. ** EGYPT. 9899.606+, Feb 21 at 2107 no signal yet into UTwente, but by 2116 recheck it`s on, S9+30 in suptorted English, totally unusable. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** GERMANY [non]. 15215, Feb 21 at 1544, JBA carrier, presumed AWR Guam or Sri Lanka, both sites listed, scheduled until 1600. 15215, Mon Feb 21 from 1555 I am monitoring via Maryland SDR for Radio Amrum/Öömrang, annual one-hour broadcast via FRANCE aimed at New York where there are more Frisian expats than on the islands themselves. Cuts on abruptly at *1600, VG S9+10/20 but with constant humwhine undertone for entire hour. Sign-on in German, then 1601 English with full details as 500 kW, crediting backers by name, coördinated with annual bonfire ceremony at this very hour. 1602 into interview of schoolteacher with frequent summaries in English of what has been said, at approx.: 1609.8, 1614.5, 1620.5, 1622. I think this is not the same recording as last year; at least refers once to what happened in 2020. 1626 full ID again in German with telefon numbers, and English, same as at sign-on. Announcer is Gerhard ---. 1628 different interview starts with Mr and Mrs Peters, mentions Corona, and ``ankles`` more than once in English summaries, meaning uncles? At 1630 a quick check of direct reception to deep North America: S9/+10. More English pauses at 1637.5, 1639.8; 1644.5 about the Frisian language being taught in schools there two hours per week; 1650.5. 1656 full ID again, including two phone numbers, first of which is 046822688. 1658 modulation stops, still humwhine carrier and now also JBA warbling like jamming, until cut off at 1700.3*. An unique annual tradition continues. Despite the contact info given, apparently no QSLing, other than proxy by MBR transmission provider. Following my imminent alert to the WOR iog, widely reported across our continent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GREECE. 9420, Feb 21 at 2107, no signal from VOG into UTwente. Others checking lately have not been hearing it either. We fear it may be an earlier permanent QRT than expected. Still nothing at 0037 Feb 22 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUAM. 15530.040, Mon Feb 21 at 1544, JBA off-frequency carrier. KSDA is scheduled 1530-1600 in Tibetan except days 12347 in English = Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed/Sat (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also GERMANY [non] ** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 21 at 2325, no signal direct from VOT English. Must have come on way late, for at 2341 it`s S9+30, VG modulation into UTwente with that COVID PSA, music. Wonderful IS playing by 2352; 2356 fades audio down audiblizing the CCCCCCI; then restarting IS with German IDs interspersed twice a minute. Pause at 0000 Feb 22, timesignal mixing out of step with East Turkistan, standard denunciation; s/on in German with detailed irrelevant satellite parameter info. Not until 0004 do the Nachrichten start. Announcer has poor mumbly enunciation. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. Still going at 0014 into music, and 0022 check in German. No telling how long this will last --- until the sleepyrator upwake. Bonus not likely to last the entire hour, too bad: ahh, Schluß at 0024* uncovering imperialist Mandarin from Xinjiang. BTW, the guy who runs the jammer against Dengê Welat is trying to control how people speaking other languages pronounce Turkey; the Germans are all set with their facility for umlauting! Next step: resurrecting the Ottoman Empire? No, that won`t do: footstools! ``Goodbye Turkey, hello Türkiye Turkey is rebranding its internationally recognised name as “Türkiye”. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the new name “represents and expresses the culture, civilisation and values of the Turkish nation in the best way”. But the change is about more than phonetic pronunciation. BBC Monitoring’s Ilgin Karlidag explains. Video produced by Suniti Singh [1:35 after commercial] Published 14 February Section BBC News Subsection Europe`` https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-europe-60337147?fbclid=IwAR2gd2e45YGiFNvdhiVqiYXqx0CMXAir-Fvl5Bpj87wZglzAZDJOpZthVK4 This is reminiscent of Ivory Coast insisting that even in English it`s to be called Côte d`Ivoire, substituting one colonial language for another. But how should we say it in these EiBi languages? BAO Baoulé: Cote [sic] d'Ivoire (2m) [bci] BET Bete / Bété (Guiberoua): Ivory Coast (0.2m)[bet] DY Dyula/Jula: Ivory Coast (1.5m) [dyu] OTH, WRTH 2022 which accedes to C---, says langs are: French (official), Anyin, Baoulé, Jula. Back in 2005, when it was still in the I`s, WRTH`s PrL were: French, Diola, 12 ethnic (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1130 kHz, Feb 20 at 2114 UT check, KLEY Wellington KS has resumed music after a spell of dead air again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2126 monitoring: confirmed Sunday February 20 at 2100 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, Villa Estense, S9+11 into nearby Noale KiwiSDR; no QRM unlike earlier. Also confirmed Sunday February 20 at 2330 on WRMI 5950, VG S9+25 into Knoxville SDR. Also confirmed UT Monday February 21 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, S9+15/20 into Missouri SDR and VG direct. Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 21 at 0230 on WRN North America webcast. Also confirmed UT Monday February 21 from 0403.5 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160 minus 55 Hz = 6150.945 into Maryland SDR, S9+10/15; JL ran over past 0400. Next: 0130 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW [NEW] 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?] 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. But the latter JBA call now sounds more like FC. Nonesuch currently listed on 332, 333 or 334, but RNA classaxe does show an FCY on 332, 25 watts at Forrest City, Arkansas, last reported in 2005y. Maybe miskeying IC or confused by mixing with something else. An N added to an I would sound like an F (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0056 UT 2/22/22

** CUBA. 7355 & 6030 & 5980, Feb 20 at 0723, wall-of-noise jamming, and slightly lighter pulse jamming on 7375, 7435, all Radio Martí frequencies which are OFF the air at this hour. Something`s always wrong at the incompetent DentroCuban Jamming Command. Think how many undernourished Cubans could have been fed nutritious meals for the juicy cost of all this pointless noise! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 9700, Sun Feb 20 at 0728, RHC English S9+10, still on here only, no 49 or 59 m, opening `Jazz Place`. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GREECE [and non]. 9420, Feb 20 at 0725, NO signal from V of Greece, at a Sunday time usually occupied by Greek Orthodox music. Later on Sundays into UT Mondays, it`s always on a break. Hope this does not portend earlier abolition of SW than projected March 31. I have a totally unconfirmed report that Feb 23 would be the last day. Propagation from Europe is certainly funxional: 9645 at 0725 Feb 20, Sunday-only Ukrainian liturgy from SMG Vatican RCC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 9400, Feb 20 at 0730, music matching 5890, i.e. the TOMBS cult via BULGARIA as scheduled, and WWCR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 13565 CW, Feb 20 at 1451, HIFER beacon K6FRC with JBA IDs over and over, listed as 1.8 milliwatts at Patterson CA; vs CODAR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 14280 USB, Feb 19 at 1951, W4A, special event ham station celebrating 80th anniversary of VOA. By 1952 has switched to a different operator`s voice, Dave. Making very quick contacts one after another, QRZ. Says he is 25 miles west from VOA Greenville [Grimesland] site, running 400 watts. Contacts include K9MOI, NP4AC; his signal much better than most of them, especially at 1954 KB9WOO with 9 watts. Mostly rate ``5,9, eastern North Carolina``. There are two other special eventers, stacked as V/O/A. Details at https://w4amc.com/2022/01/07/80th-anniversary-of-voa/ W4V at HQ in Washington, W8O at Bethany, Ohio. According to https://dxheat.com/dxc/ those two are currently working on 14300 and 14286 respectively. At 2055 I hear on 14300, W7KPH in Las Vegas NV but seems about some net rather than working W4V. Activity span is 14-22 UT both today and tomorrow Feb 20, so maybe will catch them then. Also on 40 & 80 m I haven`t heard, circa 7280 & 3880 LSBs. dxheat also registers W7Y on 14247 for the WGY centennial, but I haven`t heard it. However, I also run across a surprise special on 14277 USB at 2058 Feb 19: W7P calling CQ from Lowell Observatory, Flagstaff AZ, with no immediate response. For the 92nd anniversary of discovery of Pluto by Clyde Tombaugh: https://forums.qrz.com/index.php?threads/w7p-pluto-special-event-is-on-the-air-from-lowell-observatory.800941/ BTW I attended some events at NMSU Las Cruces with Mr Tombaugh, emeritus. Chex the next morning Feb 20: at 1457, on 14300-USB some other net. At 1458, 14280-USB mentions VOA, but next station heard is Gerson in Alexandria, Virginia; and at 1500 K4US, special event from Mt Vernon celebrating Washington`s birthday; which is not really today: https://www.qrz.com/lookup/k4us (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2126 monitoring: confirmed Sat Feb 19 at 2053 about 23 minutes into the 2030 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, S9+10 into nearby KB0FX SDR. Also confirmed UT Sunday February 20 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, S9+15 into Knoxville SDR and VG direct. Also confirmed UT Sunday February 20 at 0441 about one minute into so started circa 0440 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, S9+10 into nearby KB0FX SDR. Once again slept thru the Sun 1330 on WMRI Europe via Channel 292 on 9670; anyone hear it? Igloo is this week`s guest pirate on Texas Radio Shortwave [not Texas Shortwave Radio as on WRMI grid] as publicized for 0000-0100 UT Sunday. As I wrote to Tammy Walker, ``I enjoyed your show which I heard the first week of January and repeated on the second, so I assumed it would be repeated further until a new one in February, and had not retuned, until tonight, when I find it gone from 5950 at 0030 UT Sunday, and also gone from the WRMI program schedule; but it is still mentioned on the programming page and on your website. So what happened? Hope you will be back. Best wishes, Glenn Hauser``. No reply yet (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. At 0148, Bob Heil says, ``here we are at the top of the hour`` [huh?], so starts to ``button up``, but a little more music until 0152.7 ID and back to rock (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 5040, Feb 20 at 0729, JBA carrier presumed R. Vanuatu. Just a few minutes earlier, RHC Spanish was still going on 5040. No signal now on 7260. Others were hearing RV reactivated there but off circa 0600 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. A long time since I last heard 531, surely the 600 kW ALGERIA, tho there are also listed some low powers in Spain, asking to be swamped? Most of the others likely Spain, UK, altho checking now 3+ hours earlier than bedtime should get better results. Has RTA 531 been off air or limited sked? WRTH 2022 shows both 531 and 600/300 kW 891 kHz are 24 hours, but I`m still not ever hearing 891 which used to give WLS a het for its Hertz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1944 UT February 20

So what is going on here. iHeart pulling out of OKC or just moving to another building?Glenn Hauser, Enid`` Adam Rivers replied: ``Many iHeart facilities have downsized over the last year or so. Mine has not, but buildings have merged, etc. like Lancaster into Harrisburg, PA, etc.`` On Feb 18, John Zondlo replied: ``The auction conducted Thursday was of property at our old 50 Penn Place offices. We have only brought over to our new location a handful of items. Honestly, much of that stuff has seen its better days, and I'm not sure why some folks even bothered to bid on it. At 50 Penn, our home for 44 years, we occupied about half of the 10th floor of this office building. The 10th floor was occupied by sales and management. We also had the entire 11th floor, occupied by programming, for our 7 stations here. We also occupied a portion of the 12th floor for the Oklahoma News Network, 4 farm networks, and the Oklahoma Baptist University sports network (which I produce). With all of the cuts made by iHeart/Clear Channel in recent years, we had way too much space for too few people. Our new digs are at 6525 N. Meridian in OKC in a 6 story office tower (recently renovated, barely occupied). We have 4,000 square feet now, a fraction of what we had at 50 Penn. The broadcast and office equipment is, for the most part, brand spanking new. There is still quite a bit of broadcast equipment left at 50 Penn that is being inventoried and will be disposed of in various ways. So, to sum it up, we are still alive and well in OKC and serving our area to the best of ability with a skeleton crew. And I say that as I'm here at KGHM 1340 producing a LOCAL high school basketball game. John Zondlo - Yukon, OK`` Thanks, John. He is/was better(?) known as an FM DX editor for VHF-UHF Digest of the Worldwide TV-FM DX Association; who refuses to publish my few but detailed FM DX logs since they would occupy more than one line each. Yes, KGHM 1340 is another IHM station I overlooked, since it is licensed to suburb Midwest City for no particular reason. Did I miss another? To total magic 7 would have to include that one translator (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 91.7, KOSU, Sat Feb 19 at 1830 UT, I am listening on caradio on way to and from Box 1684, with a very interesting show about the origins of tape recording in Nazi Germany, and later into Vietnam war archive interviews; next week to be about how ``cassette tapes created the Internet``. Closed at 1859 UT without any program ID. Must have been `Radiolab` as per KOSU sked. All I want to do is find a recording/podcast of this week`s complete show since I heard only some fragments. But program website https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/radiolab is completely unhelpful, not even a search funxion: all kinds of stuff in segments for years, and some seem on related topix, but I give up! One thing I noticed that in SFX of tuning an AM radio in Britain overnight after BBC signed off, hearing classical music on strong German stations: did Hitler make the musicians play all night? we hear squishy noises and RTTY! Better not be on AM!! Or a horrible radio picking up SW images. How could Radio people be so ignorant about the basix? But such nonsense is standard for tuning-around SFX (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non].
