** ALGERIA. 17600, July 25 at 2009, Ifrikya in English, but only for a quick YL announcement about its satellite parameters. Had been checking it sporadically but heard no more English between 1830 and 1900 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935, July 25 at 1827 into UTwente, the Riyadh whine/roar still blaring at S9+10/15. Synch stepping up-and-down, confused, it attempts to land on 11934.720 or 11935.200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2253) ** U S A [and non]. As a non-commercial service, thanks this week for financial support via PayPal in US funds but not necessarily, to woradio at yahoo.com from William Fenech: ``Glenn - thanks for all your efforts to promote radio, especially Shortwave radio. Before I got my amateur radio license, I started out listening to shortwave in the late 70s. Radio Nederland, DW, Radio Moscow, and many others, as I'm sure quite a few hams did. Since then I've been an on and off SW listener over the decades. There's still something almost magical to me about picking up a broadcast or conversation over vast distances. 73 and Good DX, William NJ6O`` One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VENEZUELA. 4940, July 25 at 0128, NO signal from Estación 4940 into Bonaire SDR I had running to check WOR; normally it`s a VG signal there. ** CUBA. 4765, July 24 at 0251, R. Progreso is S9+5 but just barely modulated; while 5025 R. Rebelde is S9+30 with good mod now. But by 0645, 5025 air is dead at S9+30/40, as often the case late at night. Something`s always wrong at Radiocuba. RReb is certainly 24h on numerous MW outlets, perhaps with more reliable modulation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MEXICO. 6185-, July 24 at 0652-0715, XEPPM folk music with flute & guitar, no ToH ID break unless I dozed off. Hard to find any pleasant music on SW, vs talk and/or too weak signals (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NEW ZEALAND. 28228 CW, July 24 at 2204, EEEEEEE DE ZL3TEN, only signal on band, OSOB, really gets out (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 15390, July 24 at 1910, checking UTwente for REE activity. All three on except 17855 which has been missing several days, but 15390 dumps off air at 1915 and still off at 1924. 17715 and 15520 remain, so not an overall power failure. By 2200 token English on Wed, 15390 is back on at S9/+10 and 17855 is still off, while 15520 and 17715 are about equally sufficient S9+10/20 direct. Wonder if the SAm beam on 17715 has been skewed a bit clockwise to serve us better, splitting the difference? 2201 already in news, about fishing boat sinking. 2212 feature about the decline of the movie video rental business (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 11785.009, July 24 at 2200, VOT not off the air but JBA carrier direct, much weaker than neighbor ROMANIA 11800. By 2227 into UTwente when measured, S9+30/40 as Ms Badax is concluding some talk. 2233 TRTVOTWorld promo, music. 2237 `The Middle East and Turkey`, expectations for normalization of relations with Syria, by some ``expert``, music. 2246 `Sports Panorama` by Ms Badax, probably about Olympix, music. 2253 s/off ignoring SW. 2254 IS. 2256 restart IS with German IDs. 2300 timesig and s/on German with satellite parameters, altes until chop at 2305.5*. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2252 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday July 23 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S7/S9 into Peoria SDR; missed checking SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975; anyone hear it? Confirmed Wednesday July 24 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.004-, S9/+10 into UTwente but 6160 is OFF, as notified earlier July 23: ``6160 kHz off due to lightning damage the couple of days --- Hi Glenn, WOR will not be audible on 6160 kHz the next couple of days as a lightning strike seems to have hit our antenna and the transmitter at aprox 1636 UT today. Lightning maps show there was a strike some 500 meters away from site. On site cam shows no major damage, however 6160 tx has tripped out. We are on vacation in France. Hope to solve problem as soon as possible. 3975 kHz is running okay. I'll let you know about further developments. Thanks for your shows. Andy (Engineer, Shortwave Radio from Winsen at the River Aller)`` - we hope there be no serious damage! Also confirmed Wednesday July 24 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -67 Hz = 7489.933, S5/S7 into Maryland SDR. Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160 [if on again]. As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this week to Tony Pavick, Hope BC, Canada, for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15150, July 24 at 0645, WMLK on a good night, S9+25 SSOB, surpassing 15770 WRMI, and little else. Presumably it`s DEJOM preaching. On other occasions, 15150 a JBA carrier if at all. The ``program guide`` at https://wmlkradio.com/outreach/program-guide/ is so tiny that it`s hardly legible at max plusment, but appears to be an affiliate list of mostly low-power FMs, and TV stations, not a schedule of programs - well, they may well have only one. It seems that their publication in English, French, Spanish, has added Swahili, which might be a clue as to their priorities: https://assembliesofyahweh.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/0624-SNB-SW.pdf (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1650 kHz, July 24 at 0635 UT, I finally compare the KSVE El Paso tone pitch to my keyboard: G# or Aflat. This chart shows that should be 415.305 Hz if A = 440.000 exactly: https://doctormix.com/blog/note-to-frequency-chart/ On the radios we had it closer to 420 Hz; margin of error? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VATICAN. 25700, July 24 at 1428, JBA carrier direct until 1429.5*, BBC Hausa as sked 1400-1430* M-F per EiBi. I have yet to detect even that much from the only other 11m broadcasts, both low-powered, 25800 Denmark, 25900 Russia; nor 25900 Madagascar which is too early (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 8906 USB, July 24 at 0503, selcall tones and intermittent barely audible contacts with aircraft. EiBi shows this is for the North Atlantic route, could be Gander, New York, Shannon or Azores. Klingenfuß 2022 adds Canary, Suriname, Trinidad (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) TIPS FOR RATIONAL LIVING Bye-bye, Bibi, bye-bye: https://www.michaelmoore.com/p/bye-bye-bibi-bye-bye This report dispatched at 2354 UT July 24

** ASCENSION. 21630, Tue July 23 at 1424, JBA carrier is the OSOB and thus the SSOB. Per EiBi & Aoki, it`s BBC Hausa at 1400-1430 M-F, but 1100-1430 Sat - and never on Sunday? Here we are near the solar cycle peak and 13m band is drastically underused. Not a single transmission to or from North America! It should work at least over day paths from European or African afternoons into our mornings. Only SPAIN is interested in such a service, but 16mb suffices when it`s not missing (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 5025, July 23 at 0655, S9+30 of dead air from R. Rebelde. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785.009-, July 23 at 2158, VOT not off the air, IS & IDs, S7/S9 direct vs high local line noise level. At 2232 into UTwente when measured, S9+30/45, ``always-by-your-side`` promo, `Turkey`s Geomarked Products` about olive oil soap from Mina? on the Aegean coast. 2235 music. 2238 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music, 2248 ``w-y-e-h`` again. 2252 s/off ignoring SW and IS once to 2253* chop, no finesse (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2252 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday July 23 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9/+12 into Querétaro SDR. Also confirmed Tuesday July 23 at 1319 the 1300 on WRMI 9955 not off the air, S6/S9 direct. Also confirmed Tuesday July 23 at 2000 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.994, S7/S9 into Cavriglia SDR, since Noale & Parma are offline, and the three in Trieste are not getting it at all. There is lite musical CCI, Romania? NWlist shows 15 kW there finishing at 2000, but 50 kW in Azeri from Iran until 2020*. Also audible into UTwente, S9 but noisy reading 1322.991. ``Listener report. WOR on 1323 kHz AM (via Italy) --- Hello Glenn, I can confirm that you are now on 1323 kHz from Nexus International Broadcasting Corp., medium wave, transmitting from Milano Italy. Your WOR program was heard in the Township of Owingen, Lake Constance County, Southern Germany on a Sangean DT200X with internal ferrite rod antenna (no external antenna!), with SINPO 55444, on July 23 2024 at 2007 UTC. I have sent the station a QSL request (online) but just wanted to let you know that your program is getting out on that QRG. Attached is a short audio snippet for you. Hope you enjoy it and great to hear your voice on the AM band. Coincidentally I listened to your MP3 edition earlier today on a bike ride. Glenn Hauser is there on Nexus while the rest of Europe is shutting down AM for good. Not sure how you made that happen but this is awesome. Well done! 73! Matt =========================== Matt Zapatka, AJ4BB, DL6ZM, DU3ZM, EI7JFB, 514 Americas Way Ste 5322, Box Elder, SD 57719, USA`` =========================== Next: 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160. 9955, July 23 at 0659, WRMI back on with RFI ID in Spanish closing its broadcast. No ID but carrier cut for a few sex before 0700 resuming with Polish Radio External Service in English via WRN. Coincidental, or cut for a reason to change antenna or transmitter? Seems the same S9+20 afterwards and undermodulated. A few seasons ago, WRMI had different day and night frequencies for some transmitters, but skeds no longer show any of that (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1650+/-, July 23 at 0652 UT, continuous tone from KSVE El Paso TX, as previously approx. 420 Hz - shouldn`t it be 440? Seems to be constant every night. Some more responses to my reports: ``[WOR] Re Glenn's UNIDENTIFIED. 1650.42 & 1649.58 approx. Eric Fetters-Walp, Jul 20 #41975, IRCA iog: ``I get out of the habit of DXing on MW in the peak of summer, but after following this discussion on the board and hearing Glenn talk about it in this week's episode of "World of Radio," I turned on my receiver at 0605 UTC/11:05 p.m. PDT and heard the tone immediately upon tuning in 1650 kHz. In fact, it was the only thing I could really hear as neither KBJD and KFOX were dominating the frequency. I also checked the SDRs in Lubbock, Texas, and Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, and found the tone stronger but matching exactly what I heard. It was really loud via the Lubbock SDR! Here north of Seattle, the tone was audible for the entire time I listened until 0630 UTC. It faded in and out and "wobbled" somewhat, but it never fully disappeared here. Assuming this is indeed KSVE, I'm about 1,388 miles from that station's transmitter. Eric Fetters-Walp, Lake Stevens, Washington`` Rick Barton, WOR iog: ``[NOTE]: 1650, We have been hearing this loud hum-whine here for months, never got around to asking if other DXers had an opinion on it, when we finally saw it mentioned recently by Glenn Hauser. Here, always very strong when loops are oriented for E/W reception. Sometimes can't be nulled out, and can still be audible (albeit less signal strength) with loops oriented N/S. Tuned in again, just to verify, at 4:30A local {1130 UT} on 4 band battery portable and internal loop bar. -- Barton-AZ`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2323 UT July 23 ** VANUATU. 9960, July 23 at 0658, tune-in just in time to hear R. Vanuatu go off*. Later on, 1000-1100, before s/off, it`s now being reported on 7260 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 14670 RC USB, July 22 at 2209, CHU timesignals back on, S9, so I resynchronise my watch (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 9700, July 23 at 0113, S9+25 of dead air direct from RHC, or maybe a trace of modulation? 6000 is only S7/S9 of dead air. 15230 is S6/S7 JBM seems English? No signals on 11760 or 11950. Something`s always wrong at RHC. The Other Side: ``Castroism caps prices to remain in power in Cuba --- The only possible outcome when prices are capped as an anti-inflationary policy is chronic shortages, the proliferation of the black market and, finally, a spike in inflation. Rafaela Cruz, La Habana 18 Jul 2024 - 18:40 CEST A line at an MSME in Havana. 14ymedio Sweat trickled down his calves, accumulating in the worn-out tennis shoes he wore without socks; his feet, slipping around inside those shoes, made embarrassing squeaks as he walked, drawing glances that at another time would make him blush, but, after 45 minutes of waiting in line, nothing mattered to him more than finally standing in front of the clerk...`` https://diariodecuba.com/economia/1721320836_56089.html MSME? What`s that? Never explained; we are supposed to know it. Googling it leads to -- India?! ``Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises`` -- and as I added in a report a couple years ago: ```This article never explains what MSME means! I Googled it: ``Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)`` There must be quite a different term and abbr. in original Spanish; EMPM?`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EAST TURKISTAN [and non]. 13740, July 22 at 0050, sounds like hymn, but must not be since listed as 2300-0300 CRI Spanish via Kashgar, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs and other Moslems; S9+10 with flutter, and the OSOB/SSOB except for 13790 ALGERIA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 27184.86 AM, July 22 at 0042, S9+10 open carrier from Enid CB pirate (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 102.3, July 22 at 2018 UT, routine bandscan on caradio during `dead` conditions hits something here unusual, not // 740 KRMG; with national ads, weather ``from Classic Communications, Q-102`` i.e. KWDQ Woodward. Tho 100/100 kW, less heard than other fullpowers there. Or rather Q102 per WTFDA FMDB, no hyphen and could also be Q102.3. If there were a hyphen, it could only be WVRQ-FM, Viroqua WI, but I bet they don`t pronounce the hyphen (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17715, July 21 at 2301, t/in just in time to hear IS start after weekend s/off of SAm frequency until 2303.6*. 17855 for NAm already off. In fact, Paul Walker says he was not hearing it at all on Sat or Sun. I don`t pay much attention to REE on weekends since there is no English; tho I could understand their Spanish, there aren`t enough hours in the day and lots of it`s silly ballgames (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17855, Mon July 22 at 2200, this REE frequency for NAm is still AWOL, but token SNR English audible almost as well, S9+10/20 direct on SAm channel 17715; then 15520 offback to ME, which is sometimes better depending on MUF; and 15390 for Africa detectable. Preview topix: Iberian Lynx numbers have recovered to 2000, no longer endangered, will interview Guillermo López of an organization protecting them; and a report about some code? News 2201.6 leading with Pres. Biden dropping out. 2219.5 contact info, then on the Moroccan Family Code about oppression of women, called shuma? or search leads to: ``In 2004, Morocco reformed its family code, known as the “Moudawana.” The “Moudawana” expands women's rights and protections in relation to marriage, divorce, child custody, and inheritance. The new law promotes the principles of justice and equality between men and women``. I didn`t catch what`s new about this (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785+, July 21 at 2200 and further chex, NO signal of VOT English into UTwente; nor on previous goofs 11795, 9875. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. So we miss the weekly `Letterbox`; one more chance, UT Monday July 22 after 0300 on 7275, 6165 --- NO, BOTH those are OFF at 0317 & 0340 UTwente chex. Something else is even more erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785.020-, July 22 at 2159, VOT English not off the air, S9+10/20 direct but local noise level still a problem. 2218 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music. 2232 into UTwente when measured, S9+25/40, multi-lingual ID filler reel, music. 2239 `That`s Why` by Ms Badax about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. 2244 music. 2249 ``always-by-your-side`` promo, music. 2254 s/off by Ms Badax as if this were the 1230 on 17620. 2255 IS until 2255.6*. Also: ``Voice of Turkiye Emirler station will be off air 1000-1600 UT for engineering work on July 23 and 24, according to an announcement on the station. Alan Holder, G4ZBH, Isle of Wight, U.K.``, WOR iog (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 11880, July 22 at 0052, S9+20/30 of open carrier, preceding the 01-02 UT KBS Spanish relay via Grimesland. Is it really necessary to burn all those kW just to ``warm up`` a transmitter, probably more than just 8 minutes wasted? Is KBS charged for that? They could at least modulate it with something, like KBS IS, YDD, SSB NA or even -- VOA news in English!? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2252 monitoring: confirmed Sunday July 21 at 2000 on WRN Europe stream. Also confirmed Sunday July 21 at 2130 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 6160.002- at S9+10 and 3975.004- at S8/S9 into UTwente. Also confirmed Sunday July 21 at 2330 on WRMI 7570, S9/+15 into Georgia SDR. Also confirmed UT Monday July 22 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, noisy S9 direct. Also confirmed UT Monday July 22 from 0302 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160 -70 Hz = 6159.930, S9/+10 into NH SDR. Next: Also confirmed Monday July 22 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 6160.002- at S9/+10 and 3975.004- at S8/9+10 into UTwente. WTWW: George McClintock info circa 01 UT July 22: power outage instead of WOR July 20 at 0400: widespread tnx to TVA hydro or nuclear failure covering much of TN. Internet was also out so he could not remotely turn transmitter back on when power resumed. Misc. other items: Hope to have #3 transmitter running in a sesqui- or bi-week; current problem is lack of control card for its air conditioner. Bob Biermann has cancer. Ted Randall was broadcasting from Lebanon hamfest, but did not show up today, raising concerns about his health. Harris xmtr has a loose panel which flaps when the AC is on. TOMBS wants to get on WTWW, and probably will tho George is not happy about Bro. Stair`s anti-Catholic and anti-papal comments. And later an email: ``WTWW: water leak --- 9 gallons of water leaked when a hose that was secured with a wire tie broke free. This wire tie was placed on by the previous engineer. WTWW now has a metal clamp that will prevent this from happening again. We had to go and purchase distilled water to make up for the water loss. The #1 transmitter did not get back on until 7 pm Central. George McClintock 7-22-2024`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9335-9365 approx., July 22 at 2212, filthy WWCR-2 signal with squeals and squawks if you tune either side from 9350 which is S9+40/50. Likewise or even worse WWCR-4, 9965-9995 with TOMBS which is S9+60 on center 9980. Other freqs of #2 are 5935, 7490, 12160; of #4, 7520, 5890. Similar problems affect 5890 & 5935, all these exacerbated by excessive signal strength; on 85 or 90 degree azimuths, or almost directly off the back to here. Not so much the #1 & #3 frequencies allegedly at 46 and 40 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. July 22 at 0617+ UT, distinctive voice of a guest on `Coast to Coast AM` about UFOs or something, audible on multiple frequencies almost in a row, but not exactly synchronized, 980, 960, 950, 940, 930; also 850, 840, 690, 600, 580, 560, 1150. Or course there are many more if you dig. Noticed because of an echo under local 960 KGWA; also under 1150 KSAL KS. Showsite https://www.coasttocoastam.com/stations/ is organized by state rather than frequency. So a few guesses from last year`s NRC AM Log listings, based on proximity, previous log, night power: 1150: WJBO LA, KRMS MO or WIMA OH. 980: KMBZ MO. 960: KZIM MO or WERC AL, and BTW KGWA not shown with C2C tho is on showsite. 950: KWOS MO. 940: KIXZ TX. 930: WTAD IL. The others should be obvious (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1030, July 22 at 0614 UT, weather, ``NewsRadio WBZ``, really Boston? Yes, 0615 Roxbury mentioned: gotta know your suburbs. Seldom heard but always a pleasure as the most distant ``clear`` in the US for me, 1485 miles, slightly further than Seattle. WBZ advantage is direxional-west night and day to avoid serving the Atlantic and beyond. Lite QRM in Spanish, which could be Memphis, Kansas City, or Corpus Christi if not Mexico (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1130, July 22 at 0040 UT, silly sportstalk from KWKH, still no KLEY KS. In case it matter, since they never powered down from 250 to 1 watt when operable, KLEY SS/SR times for July are 0145/1115; August 0130/1145. And 50/50 kW KWKH pattern change times: July 0130/1115; August 0100/1145. But July 22 at 1531 UT, KLEY is back on. At 0143-0146 UT July 23 I am monitoring 1130 on the E/W longwire. KWKH sportstalk is already dominant, mixing with music from KLEY. Neither to the eye on the S-meter nor to the ear to the phone is there any change in KLEY signal when it legally has to drop from 250 to ONE WATT; but it conveniently IDs at 0145 as ``104.1 & 1130 KLEY`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1440v, July 22 at 0624 UT and many other times, LAH = low audible heterodyne against the 1440.00 pileup. Per http://mwlist.org/mwoffset.php?khz=1440 it`s most likely KFUV Little Rock AR, nothing else in USA so far above or below, at 1439.9678 as of 2021-04-04, i.e. 32.2 Hz off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 15133-15155 approx., July 22 at 2207, OTHR clickery again, INTRUDER altho no broadcast victims in this range now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 15809 USB, July 22 at 0047, weak 2-way net, or rather multi-way, language uncertain but unseems Spanish or English. Hardly any broadcast signals on 19 mb. The only hits on 15809 in the UDXF iog are in three numbers-station logs, not as a frequency. Nothing in Klingenfuß 2022 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0204 UT July 23
