DX/SWL/MEDIA PROGRAMS UPDATE JANUARY 1
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxpgms.html
WRMI entries not fully updated yet

WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST UPDATE JANUARY 1

Hi Glenn, Happy New Year! My latest Hitlist update.
https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm

1) Guam - KTWR, TWR-Asia: Added entry, including blogspot page
containing programme & frequency updates (Thanks to Mike Sabin, Asia
Broadcast Technical Operations Director)

2) Romania - R Romania Int: Added link to RRM domestic service 2-week
schedule. Play list for the Sunday Radio Concert Season programme on
RRI can be found by checking the previous Friday entry at 1900 on the
RRM webpage)

Unless there's a major change anywhere, the next update will be late
January. Best wishes and 73 (Alan Roe, UK)

** COLOMBIA. Re: [WOR] 4940 kHz. - La Montana --- ``Happy New Year,
Glenn! Believe the 2021 WRTH has 4940 as La Montana Colombia, 1 KW.
Ron Howard``

So it has, page 166 - somehow I assumed it would not be in WRTH yet.
[As only SW station in frequency list, location Maicao but:] Station
DC26) as if it were in Bogotá. Info apparently from Rafael Rodríguez,
who really is in Bogotá, as QSL manager just as he was for the 5910 &
6010 stations really in Puerto Lleras; but did not bother to inform
us. The WRTH entry also shows an oficina address as Red 4-72
Unicentro, Bogotá. Does anyone ever really hear an ID as ``La Montana
Colombia`` - or Montaña? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [non]. Rechecking for the ND beacons missing last night:
still absent at 0253 UT Jan 2 are: 255 SW Stillwater; 341 EI Enid; 350
RG OKC. Enid got about 6 inches of snow overnight early UT January 1;
somewhat melting during the day but plenty remains on ground.
Fortunately not enough freezing rain icing here to cause problems
before snowing.

On 341-MCW kHz I am hearing only OIN OberlIN, Kansas; on 350-USB, only
dash and YKQ, which is really on 351-MCW from Fort Rupert -
Waskaganish, Quebec; also on 351-MCW itself a mixture of YKQ and IN,
which is really on 353 from International Falls, Minnesota (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support:
thanks this week to George McClintock, Nashville TN, who sent a check
in US$ on a US bank to

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (7490v), UT Sat Jan 2 at 0100, WBCQ webcast of `AAAWWW``,
turns out to be 99% political this week. ``Wake up; the Republic is at
Stake``; Angela has been injured, sticking herself on a spine of a
huge century plant by the Fla studio; but she still looks
``delicious``. Both of them have fallen for the conspiracy narrative
that Trump had to have won, Biden is a joke but if inofficed will lead
to takeover of America by socialist/communism headed by the CCP ---
what`s that? Allan has a `brain fart`, then remembers it`s the Chinese
Communist Party, which is trying to conquer the world, especially the
US, including not least via its bio-weapon the COVID virus. [Not
addressed, Occamly, why would the ChiCom capitalists want to kill off
so many of their customers?? Not to mention the negative image.] After
datestamp at 0121 that it is January 1, YOOL 2021, plays a 20-minute
podcast? thru a phone-patch which tries to convince that there was
massive elexion fraud, and since this thing has been banned from FB,
YT and TW, it must be true! On and on; finally 0153 some e-mail,
prayer and off. Simultaneously I was getting the new episode of Dr
Who, which made a lot more sense (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Re `Escape From 2020` special on WBCQ:
``Hello Glenn, Glad you enjoyed the show. Listeners were duly warned
that the first three minutes would be as ugly as the year, like the
old man / new baby thing in images of yore. We did get beautiful soon
after. I wish more entertainment programs would get into the act (pun
intended) with specials. Long-term, time sharing might even be a way
for two programs who can't pay their own way in isolation to get
together and get on the air. Who knows. An eQSL is attached.

Now #107 at http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4980, Jan 2 at 0231, WRMI seems powered up to S9, axually
readable with SMTV-sounding talk; ACI from 4985 RTTY and 4980 soon
fades way down so maybe just a fluke. Again it`s barely too late to
compare to next WRMI on 5010 which must have just closed, leaving
5010- Madagascar without a het.

5800, UT Sat Jan 2 at 0354, WRMI with pop music in Spanish, ID in
Spanish, 0356 to Zorba fill music. I was going to check what occupy
the 03-04 UT Sat hour this week; evidently neither `TRSW` nor `Encore`
but should have got there earlier. Maybe more Freedom Synergy Radio?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9975, Jan 2 at 0249, KVOH is only S4-S5, insufficient; at
0303 I check it via TWR Bonaire SDR to find its longer skip reaching
at S7-S8, sufficient with music and preaching. First wanted to check
Key West Kiwi but it was offline (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** AUSTRIA [non]. (91.9), Jan 1 at 16-18 UT, just enjoyed the New Year
Concert from Vienna, via WUOT $ tereo webcast, penul-concluding as ever
with the Blue Danube Waltz --- why do I keep thinking of Cashmere
Bouquet? The American hostess voice-overing English comments, Lisa
Mullins in Boston, needs to work on her German pronunciation, e.g.
``Musikverein``. A rather different version is scheduled on PBS TV
tonight, 0300 UT Saturday on OETA, visual elements added such as
ballet dancers, scenic views of nature and grand architecture (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 276-MCW kHz, Jan 1 at 0733 UT, dash and YEL, 200-watt ND
beacon from Elliot Lake, Ontario; tuned to 275-USB (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 7435, Jan 1 at 0528, heavy jamming against no R.
Martí; also on 7355, 7335, each with a different sound. The temporary
extension of RM to 0400-0600* was to expire after 5 December per HFCC;
unsure if that soon but definitely gone now; why? That supposedly
applied to 7435, 7355, 6030 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6100, Jan 1 at 0525, RHC in Spanish instead of English with
NYE special also commemorating the 62nd anniversary of The Revolution.
Nothing heard on 11670 like last night.

6145, Jan 1 at 0525, RHC English again reverted to A-season frequency
instead of 9700, // distorted 6000. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Heavy ice/snowfall seems to have knocked off
some ND beacons normally heard on groundwave, 1441-1447 UT after
sunrise Jan 1:

255-MCW, No SW, StillWater, nor earlier at 0731 UT
341-MCW, No EI, EnId, just OIN from OberlIN, Kansas
350-MCW, No RG, Oklahoma City, Will RoGers World Airport

These are still on in the 1441-1447 UT check Jan 1:
267-MCW, HET, 25 watts from HenryEtTa OK; tuned to 265-USB
293-MCW, FBY, 25 watts from FairBurY, Nebraska, regular often ignored
332-MCW, IC, 400 watts from wIChita - pICnIC, Kansas; no Canadian QRM
338-MCW, TU, 30 watts from TUlsa; not often heard
407-MCW, HRU, 25 watts, HeRington, KansUs; regular; tuned to 405-USB
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA [and non]. 11745.0, Jan 1 at 1455, S9 ME music and
talk about Ibrahim; 1459 music modulation with some breaks in it.
Similar strength to 11815 Turkey. This is Al-Azm Radio, the AFRTS of
SA, so not clandestine as some calify it; see pages 357 and 522 of
WRTH 2021, where it`s among `Clandestine and Other Target
Broadcasts``, site presumed Jeddah but not confirmed. Often heard in
bandscans but now I log it for the record. Google translates the name
as ``Determination`` which seems quite appropriate for messing with a
neighboring country`s affairs, Yemen. Meanwhile, the clandestine
Republic of Yemen Radio is blocked on 11860 by Cuban jamming and R.
Martí. It used to be well heard before OCB usurped. BTW, the American
Forces Network does exist in SA via several FM frequencies in Jeddah
and Riyadh (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 305-MCW kHz, Jan 1 at 0744 UT, mixture of two NDBs when
tuned to 303-USB, very hard to untangle, but seem to hear ``ROM`` and
``OI``. These lead to:
OI, 25 watts at Sioux City - Tommi, Iowa
RO, 150 watts at Roswell, New Mexico
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also OKLAHOMA [and non]

** U S A. 13555, Jan 1 at 1448, HIFER beacon WV definitely copied,
from Richwood, West Virginia, after trace on Dec 28. Now it`s better
than trace of K6FRC California on 13565; at least there are no Cuban
spurblobs today to avoid. But both encounter CODAR QRM (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7490v, in WOR iog discussion and on WOR 2067, I point out
the .0015% frequency tolerance FCC allows on WBCQ license; afraid I
got it wrong as David Freeborough explains:

Re: [WOR] Vague FCC info on WBCQ --- ``Hi Glenn, 0.0015% = 0.000015 =
15 parts per million. At 7490 kHz that's a frequency error of 112.35
Hz. David``

That still seems awfully lax; a SW frequency that far off is bound to
cause harmful interference to co-channel stations. I personally would
tolerate no more than say, plus/minus 10 Hz. WBCQ is anyway beyond
tolerance, typically lately up to 180 Hz high, but I doubt will be
facing megadollar fines, increased by inflation index (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL [and non]. 11905-11910-11915, Dec 31 at 0627, DRM noise from
RNA resumed experiment S9/+10 to here direct, maybe would be
decodable. [WORLD OF RADIO 2067]

Tried it for NYE, Jan 1 at 0201; not enough S/N into Bonaire, but
11780-AM is VG altho somewhat distorted with NYE talk and MPB, leading
up to 2021y at 0300 UT = local midnight, when I am listening again,
retuned just in time at 0259 until -- until --- cut off the
transmitter during MPB at usual 0300* sharp, no countdown, no
timesignal, no nothing!

Quickly retuned Bonaire at 0300 to 6180 to hear --- to hear --- bigsig
from La Voz Alegre, Florida gospel huxters with gringo accent, back
via MADAGASCAR, but with a fast SAH underneath, maybe RNA still on
there but useless.

It was a busy WOR Thursday produxion day among other things, so I
missed any earlier Jahrwechseln via SW, even Spain at 23 UT, WWV at 00
UT. Nor will there be any Guatemala at 06 UT but celebrations here!
Freezing rain is closing in, so who knows whether we shall have power
and internet into 2021 (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 335-MCW kHz, Dec 31 at 0641 UT, dash and YLD, which is
1000-watt ND beacon at Chapleau, Ontario. I was tuned to 334-USB
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. I am seldom up to check for CNR1 jammers before 1400 UT; in
autumn and A-20 season there would be loads of them WOOB above & below
11 MHz and also circa 13 MHz. So at 1359 Dec 31 I hasten to scan
around 11 MHz, and, nothing; maybe on but not winterpropagating (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11670, Dec 31 at 0628, RHC Spanish is still on here beyond
usual closing; something`s always wrong at RHC. At least it prove
there be propagation approaching 12 MHz in the nightmiddle (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13555 approx., Dec 31 at 1425, RHC spurblob with F# tone is
offset a little more than usual into the ISM/Part 15/HIFER band: then
also found around: 13629 S4-S6; 13700-AM fundamental S9/+20; 13772;
13844 QRMing 13845 WWCR on its LSB, tsk2; and 13915 weakest. So these
are multiples of plus/minus 71-72 kHz. It`s about time this hit WWCR;
so far keeps missing Martí. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Dec 31 at 0632, no signal from VON; nor have I
noticed it lately; could be on 11770- instead but not propagating;
anyhow not to be heard on either now, nor possible 9690- (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 475+MCW kHz, Dec 31 at 0636 UT, had not heard Dave Frantz`s
WWW WA4SZE BEACON for several nights, but back on now from Manchester,
TN (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2067 contents: Australia, Brasil, Canada,
Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Eritrea, Korea South, Newfoundland &
Labrador, New Zealand, Romania, South Carolina non, Spain, Sri Lanka,
Sudan, Taiwan non, Turks & Caicos, USA; and the propagation outlook.

Completed just in time for first airing anywhere, UT Friday January 1,
2021 on WRMI 5850, VG S9+35/45 into Missouri SDR; but canceled as I
feared on 5010 to the south as checked via Bonaire. The 01-02 hour now
has 5010 paired with whatever be on 7780 instead of 5850; at least
this should now apply to both for the final WOR repeat UT Thursdays at
0130, if reclaimed from `Mundo Sorprendente` specials.

WOR 2067 is available as of 0127 UT Friday January 1, 2021

** U S A. (7490), Jan 1 at 0300, WBCQ webcast since 7490 reception is
insufficient, of Uncle Bill`s NYE special hour, `Escape from 2020`,
with portions of his and other WBCQ programs; but the first thing is a
real turn-off, screaming ``365 [sic, sick] days`` in honor of last
year. 0329 Tom Call amateur Theatre; 0334 Cosmikdebris and Jane,
concluding with FTIOM, and a bit of Spike Jones until 0400. An
enjoyable diversion (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Received December 30: ``Ahoy Glenn - Here's a TRSW rarity

starting at 0303, instead of 0200-``; [later:] It`s not the same Xmas
program at all that was on WRMI last night, but: ``Camel Rock `n` Roll
Dance Party``, recorded in NYC 1956 when smoking was supposedly kool,
er --- gh`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9975, Dec 31 at 0630, KVOH is only S3-S5 as it`s often faded
way down into the night over the almost 2-megameter path, closer than
Habana. Ray Robinson says some programming changes from January 2 for
UT Tuesdays-Saturdays: ``Scott Martin's 'Song in the Night' will be
moving to 0600-0700, in place of the repeats of 'Jazz Session'. But,
we will still have a nightly hour of Big Band music on the schedule in
'Swing Shift', at 0200-0300`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2067)

** U S A. (101.1), Thu Dec 31 at 1735-1900 UT, caught the last half of
Susan Ohori`s world music show in KSFR Santa Fe NM webcast, and indeed
she is still calling it `Beyond Borders`, whatever the schedule may
show (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carriers, not a thoro search but
stepping 10 kHz on USB I hear the telltale hets from plus 1 kHz

SDR, 16 dB but still some breakups during `A Voz do Brasil`; both read

** CANADA. 244-MCW kHz, Dec 30 at 0722 UT, dash and TH, 1000-watt ND
beacon at Thompson, Manitoba, remote north-central forming the eastern
point of a triangle with Flin Flon to the west, and Lynn Lake to the
north. The only NDB anywhere on 244 per dxinfocentre.com unlike 242
and 245; zero on 243 where I was hearing it USB at first.

274-MCW kHz, Dec 30 at 0725 UT, dash and YPM, 25-watt NDB at

300-MCW kHz, Dec 30 at 0727 UT, dash and YIV, 500-watt NDB at Island

317-MCW kHz, Dec 30 at 0728 UT, dash and VC, 1000-watt NDB at La
Ronge, Saskatchewan. I was tuned to 316-USB.

326-MCW kHz, Dec 30 at 0729 UT, dash and YQK, 200-watt NDB at Kenora,
Ontario. Mixing with PKZ? See U S A

332-MCW kHz, Dec 30 at 0731 UT, dash and YFM, 2500-watt NDB at La
Grand 4, Quebec, atop my nearby 400-watt IC Wichita KS, and nothing
from the usual dominator, 1000-watt QT in Thunder Bay, Ontario. LG-4
is a Hydro dam a kilomile north of Montréal, fishing/outfitter
destination.

351-MCW kHz, Dec 30 at 0735 UT, dash and YKQ, 500-watt NDB at Fort
Rupert - Waskaganish, Québec. At first tuned to 350-USB where it was
overriding my nearby 400-watt RG at Will Rogers World Airport, OKC,
Gally. Heard on 351 also with QRM from IN, really 353, see U S A.

355-MCW kHz, Dec 30 at 0738 UT, dash and YWP, 200-watt NDB at
Webequie, Quebec; still waiting for a pronouncer on this one.

Quite a few other Canadians in this session, skipped over as too
familiar/regular (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 326-MCW kHz, Dec 30 at 0729 UT, during mostly-Canadian
beacon logging, YQK has CCI from FKZ? or JKZ? Per list must have been
PKZ, 400-watt NDB at Pensacola - Pickens, Florida. F-, J- and P- all
have four dits/dahs in similar configs: ..-. / .--- / .--.

329-MCW kHz, Dec 30 at 0730 UT, PMV, 25-watt NDB at Plattsmouth,
Nebraska.

344-MCW kHz, Dec 30 at 0733 UT, TKH, 25-watt NDB at Tallulah,
Louisiana. I was tuned to 342-USB. Tallulah is the next town west of
Vicksburg, MS, trans-river. Atop mix of more signals.

353-MCW kHz, Dec 30 at 0736 UT, IN, 100-watt NDB at International
Falls - Ray, Minnesota; heard tuned to 351-USB mixing with YKQ CANADA,
q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2066 monitoring: confirmed Wed Dec
30 from 2200:22 on WBCQ 7490.18v, S9/+10 via KB0FX SDR in MO, but
faded to S5/S7 by 2227.

Also confirmed Wed Dec 30 at 2300 on WRMI 9955, S5 via heavy pulse
jamming into TWR Bonaire SDR, faded to JBA vs PJ by 2329. Not next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE [pre-empted] [ex-0100]

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:

WOR is always a SW program first, but as stations make it harder to
hear, I can`t blame people for accessing a reliable alternative.

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support:

New WOR 2067 should be ready by early UT Friday January 1 for first
broadcast on WRMI 5850, and maybe 5010 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955, Wed Dec 30 at 1628, WRMI is still on with TOMBS = The
Overcomer Ministry Brother Scare, during a caller, // > 5950 << 9395
<<< 9980 et al. One more look at the WRMI skedgrid
http://www.tinyurl.com/WRMIfqs --- yes, WRMI-3 is supposed to run this
late on Sabbathdays only. Not on by 19 UT or so; yet to catch when it
turn off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13565-CW, Dec 30 at 1631, imagination-level CW in the
noise, probably K6FRC 1.8-milliwatt HIFER beacon from Patterson CA, an
hour or two later than usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 223-MCW kHz, Dec 29 at 0743, dash and YYW, 1000 watt ND
beacon at Armstrong, Ontario (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6100, Dec 29 at 0733, RHC is S9+30 of dead air in English
plus some hum, no other frequencies left. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13571 approx., Dec 29 at 1512, the ``Cuban sound`` spurblob
during `Sonido Cubano` on RHC, with F# tone, best readable in FM mode
where it`s 10 kHz wide and hard to pinpoint the exact center. This is
second-order, 129 kHz below source 13700-AM which is S9+20; then
first-order circa 13636, 13765, weaker 13830, and S1-S2 on third-order
13894. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EAST TURKISTAN. 9860, Dec 29 at 2226, S5-S7 fluttery Esperanto, as
sked this hour from CRI via Kashgar, land of ChiCom cultural genocide
against Uyghurs and other Moslems. And why is it that only Commies are
interested in Esperanto broadcasting, also Cuba, not even gospel
huxters who employ countless tiny tongues? Its creator, Ludoviko
Lazaro Zamenhof, was a Polish Jew, but pre-communism, 1859-1917y:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L._L._Zamenhof
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEWFOUNDLAND. 2598-USB, Dec 29 at 0737 UT, roboyl marine weather in
English, S8 vs S7 noise level here. DXinfocentre.com shows starting at
0737, the first early-morning broadcast = 4:07 am local, in the cycle
of 6 or 7 mostly NL stations in the 2598 group, is VCP-4, Placentia,
with 3000 watts, greatest of all. Nothing on 2749-USB yet, but VCO
Sydney NS is to start at 0740 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PHILIPPINES [and non]. 9795, Dec 29 at 2304, Vietish? talk with QRM
underneath sounds like Firedragon, but why bother? Aoki does not show
*jamming or anything else here. This is FEBC in Mon via Iba site - not
the same as Hmong, which is at other times in three different hues,
Black, White, and Blue - based on traditional costumes? I wonder which
one was SXMZ, see U S A (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN [and non]. 9690, Dec 29 at 2302, REE in Sefardí, since it`s
martes, rather than English on L/M/V. As matches the sked in Aoki/NDXC
for Day 3; a.k.a. Ladino, also Sundays 2230-2300. Not as strong as
usual, with some ACI from 9695 in Japanese with echo, i.e. CRI via
Jinhua, presumably rather thisaway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Dec 29 at 2300, no signal from VOT English to us;
should have been at least detectable despite S8-S9 HLLNL. Something`s
always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955, Tue Dec 29 at 1524, `Freedom Synergy Radio` is just
ending another unscheduled airing on WRMI, 1525 into one of my
favorite fill-music tunes, `Sandunga` on marimba; recheck at 1600,
still on contrary to sked with TOMBS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4980, Dec 29 at 0220, WRMI apparently on here, but VP S8-S9
and undermodulated, can`t even be sure of language, SMTV? Not // 5010
which is S9/+10 and fully modulated vs Madagascar het, nor // any
other WRMI frequency.

At 0228 I hasten to compare them via TWR Bonaire KiwiSDR: 5010 is
closing R. Taiwán Internacional citing its Spanish sked as 01 on 5800,
02 on 5010, 22 on 7780; at S9+10, while whatever on 4980 is only S5-S7
into dead air at 0230 but still on, exciter only? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 7490.18v, Tue Dec 29 at 2258, WBCQ ending one `AAAWWW` with
anti-Chinese remarx, retune at 2300, *another* `AAAWWW` - or the same
one? Is starting with ``William Tell Overture`` and more anti-China
interjexions. It`s scheduled at 22-23, but a gap at 23-24, not even
``Available Time Slot``. Didn`t Brother Scare useta occupy that hour?
I see the WBCQ Program Guide has also finally deleted 3265, which has
not been on the air since early 2020? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. 7530, Dec 29 at 2227, no open carrier unlike 24+ hours
ago, and presumably no SXMZ either at 2230 via Taiwan, the Colorado
Christian-Hmong hmissionary show of B-19; at least that gave us a
chance to find out it`s apparently gone (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 810 kHz, Dec 29 at 2325 UT, steady S9 of dead air in
presumed English, WHB Kansas City? Yes, loops thataway and 2330
finally JIP stupid sports talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (101.1), KSFR Santa Fe NM, via webcast: one of my favorite
shows in its final airing, UT Tue Dec 29 at 0400-0700, `Beyond
Borders`, excellent ``world music`` hostessed by Susan Ohori. In her
rather droll style of speech, she has been saying the last few weeks
that she is moving to Thursday mornings at 16-19 UT, apparently
already starting there tho sked even for next week/year still shows,
what must be a similar show with another host, `Sound Travels`. I`ve
not checked that yet. Each provides playlists, but apparently no
podcasts or archiving since the demise of Radio Free America. See:

https://www.ksfr.org/programs/beyond-borders
https://www.ksfr.org/programs/sound-travels

I have the impression the move was not Susan`s choice, as she alluded
to her longtime Monday-night slot not being what the audience would
prefer; some survey? The daytime show must be a different style with
e.g.. breaks for news on hour, so she makes a point of playing an
extra-long piece to conclude tonight.

``Susan Ohori
https://www.ksfr.org/people/susan-ohori

Susan Ohori pioneered the programming of world music on radio from
1972 - 1977 on Pacifica station KPFA in Berkeley, with her program
Last Chants. She served as Music Director there from 1976 - 1977, when
she left the Bay Area to research and record Purepecha folk music in
Michoacan, Mexico.

She published "An Introduction to World Music: 100 Records to Start
With" in the Next Whole Earth Catalogue.

Moving to Santa Fe in 1980, she produced a weekly 6-hour program of
classical music (including contemporary and world) on KUNM,
Albuquerque, from 1980-1982. She was Program Director for the
Explorations in Music concert series at the Center for Contemporary
Art, Santa Fe, from 1981-1985. In 1992 she began producing her weekly
3-hour program of world music, Beyond Borders, on KSFR.

In 2002 (?), along with a group of dedicated station volunteers and
supporters, she was instrumental in forming the non-profit Northern
New Mexico Radio Foundation which won the contract to take over the
management and fiscal responsibility of KSFR from Santa Fe Community
College. She served on its Board of Directors from 2002-2009 (?).

She founded Ohori's Coffee, Tea & Chocolate, a roasting and retail
business in 1984 and sold in 2001. She also opened Casa, in 1996, a
retail store specializing in folk art.

She was a founding Board member of the Santa Fe Film Festival which
she served on for 10 years. She has recently returned to her work on
clay sculpture begun in the 1970's.``

The gallery of show hosts on KSFR lacks a portrait of her, unlike the
others. Her name, at least, I think be Japanese/Nisei. A cursory
websearch doesn`t find her visage either, but the woman who bought her
coffee shop, I think.

No info yet on KSFR site about what will replace her two sesquihours
on Monday nights, and she is not saying. At least that alleviates the
conflict/overlap with a similar show on New Mexico`s other prime
public radio station, KUNM [89.9] Albuquerque, at 0500-0800 UT
Tuesdays:
https://www.kunm.org/programs/global-music
which I suppose will now become my habitual listening. KUNM does have
a limited on-demand archive. Years ago I did suggest to Susan that it
was a shame both were on at same time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5095-USB, Dec 30 at 0215, very occasional 2-way, unseems
Spanish, sandwiched between the huge 5085 WTWW signal, and its JBA
spur about 5097 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
