Glenn Hauser logs January 15, 2021 |

Friday, January 15 2021
** CANADA. 242-MCW kHz, Jan 15 at 0724 UT, dash and XC, 500-watt ND beacon at Cranbrook, BC; mixed with FS and EL, see USA. Distance to Enid: only 2051 km = 1274 stmi since it`s in the SE corner, but new here.
244-MCW kHz, Jan 15 at 0724 UT, dash and TH, 1000-watt NDB at THompson, Manitoba; axually further than XC, due north at 2152 km = 1337 stmi. DXinfocentre has nothing else anywhere on 244, clear channel (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 9965, Jan 15 at 1607, rather strong pulse and noise jamming against nothing; is it DentroCuban Jamming Command paranoia, incompetence or really holding a grudge? Radio República via Costa Rica drew the jamming here originally. That was last heard exactly 10 years ago! Currently the only occupant of 9965 is Palau and not at this hour (and no jam now on 9955, despite WRMI being off) (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13699.9 approx., Jan 15 at 1556, bandscan finds poor off-frequency-minus music, but cuts off at 1557* before I can finish measuring it. Surely RHC, one of the less frequent something`s-always-wrongers, but has happened before. Nothing left, not even TOMBulgaria, supposedly 13700 at 1400-1800 per Aoki/NDXC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 255-MCW kHz, Jan 15 at 0725 UT, SW, Stillwater NDB is finally back on the air. Checked nightly since last heard Dec 31. Jan 1 snowstorm may have knocked it off. 341-MCW kHz, Jan 15 at 0703 UT, EI, Enid NDB is finally back on air. Checked nightly/daily since last heard Jan 2. I wonder if the same engineer/entity were responsible for reactivating both at about the same time. Both 25 watts, and altho further, SW always sounds louder (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SAUDI ARABIA. 15205.059, Jan 15 at 1603, JBA signal from Riyadh as scheduled 1545-1757 per Aoki/NDXC; typically askew. There`s no shame if your receiver cannot measure beyond the decimal point; but if it can, you should do so (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 242-MCW kHz, Jan 15 at 0719 UT, ND beacon EL, which is 400 watts from, where ELse, EL Paso, Texas, a new one here. I was tuned to 240-USB. BTW there is also an LE on 242, Lexington KY. On 242 itself at 0724 UT, I am hearing 3-way mix at different pitches of EL; FS = 400 watts from Sioux Falls SD, normally the only/dominant; and XC, see CANADA. 347-MCW kHz, Jan 15 at 0732 UT, NDB AFK, which is 25 watts from Nebraska City, NE (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also OKLAHOMA ** SINGAPORE. 7355, Jan 15 at 1609, Korean at S9/+10, the SSOB by far once 7490 WWCR begone; i.e., BBC via Kranji at 1530-1830 carrying on far beyond NK and why isn`t it jammed? Per my NGS globe with geometer, the 250 kW, 25-degree beam then crosses southern Alaska, central BC, MT, WY and within a couple degrees of hitting Enid head-on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. If you miss the hot-off-the-press Thursday evening first airing of WORLD OF RADIO, UT Friday at 0130 on WRMI 5850 & 7780, you have to wait until Saturday morning for the next SW chance; unless accessed otherwise such as via website or podcast. Next 2069s: 1300 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 to NE 2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 2230 UT Saturday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE [new; to be confirmed] 2300 UT Saturday WRMI 7780 to NE 0400vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415; as late as 0500] 2300vUT Sunday WBCQ 6160v Area 51 to WSW 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7730 to WNW 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE, 5800 to SSE 1900vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Bulgaria to WNW, 594-Italy 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 5800 [to resume?] 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support: thanks this week to Brandon Jordan, TN, for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com and commenting: ``Heya Glenn. Thanks for all you do for us SWDX’ers`` -- and tnx to Brandon for the rx I use most. One may also contribute by MO or check in US$ on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 13655-13660, Jan 15 at 1654, another try to tell what`s on the WINB DRM. VG noise here as usual, so I try the Omaha KiwiSDR; S/N varying around 12 dB, not enough altho S9+5; labeled 8.28 kbps, mode B, Chan 5 kHz; never mind what`s on the rest of it, 13650-13655. Occasional bits decode; 1656 a few more giving 504 area code, Fellowship-something, .LA.org. 1658 ``Over the Rainbow`` music and WINB ID, 1700 YL starts another gospel huxter, but cut off the air*. Looking thru the program list at WINB.com I find none with Fellowship in their name (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VENEZUELA. 6200, Jan 15 at 0713, S2-S3 of music, presumed ROCV reactivated on new frequency, as first reported by Manuel Méndez. Apparently runs all-night; alternate frequency to be 7375. Per Aoki/NDXC the only other 6200s to beware of are: Tibet from 2050 to 1805 including English at 0700 --- but that`s circa noon there; and Voice of Jinling, Nanjing, China at 12-15 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1927 UT January 15

Glenn Hauser logs January 14-15, 2021 |

Friday, January 15 2021
** ALBANIA [non]. 5850, Jan 14 at 2302, R. Tirana via WRMI, news in English, OM caster has a distinctive sing-song tonality. 2309 on to mailbag with YL host, first from Richard Novak who reported this transmission in September; then someone else from October, 5850 at 2300-2329 specifically mentioned. Also plans for Xmas programming, so this may be a very old playback; I had not noticed any news items which could be outdated or not. Explaining how Albanians are not so much into celebrating Xmas like western Europeans, after years of Commie suppression --- and Orthodoxy, Islam? 2316 on to a song.
The thing is, I was not aware of this broadcast, and neither is the WRMI skedgrid for System H which is blank 7 days a week during this slot! Yet apparently listeners have been running across it for months. 5850 is not in WRTH 2021 either, but other WRMI relays including 2230 on 7780 most days of the week, which I have been hearing. At 2300 too much else is going on, such as Spain and Turkey in English, and for me, BBC World News America on PBS/OETA. This was like-a-local on the caradio since it`s aimed right at us; we were on the way back from an out-of-town appointment to get our Moderna vaccination #1. BTW within a few blox of the US 81 joint antenna site inside Enid of LPFMs on 94.3 and 99.9, we got heavy FM QRM to 5850 --- just overload, or does their separation of 5.6 MHz have something to do with that? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 376-MCW kHz, Jan 14 at 0725 UT, ND beacon dash and YAG, 40 watts from Fort Frances, Ontario. Last logged Nov 17, 2020 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See USA for 3 more logs this session ** FRANCE [and non]. 5875-DRM, Jan 14 at 2330, I`m too busy to check another night for RFI test, but meanwhile ideas about it have come in to the WOR iog. Alan Gale points out that a round-the-world yacht race is underway, and since TDF has previously broadcast SW specials for such races, this could be related, pure speculation. This from Michel Fremy: ``Radio France International in DRM. TDF performs irregular DRM broadcast tests during the month of January: from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on 7405 kHz; from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on 9900 Khz; from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on 15285 kHz; from 3:05 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on 9905 kHz and from 11 p.m. to midnight on 5875 kHz. These are data broadcasts mainly for tests of the DRMCAST system for ships. The programs are broadcast by the Issoudun transmitter center (hours in UTC). These emissions were not recorded in the HFCC Winter database. Regular Radio France International [DRM] broadcasts continue 24 hours a day on 3965 kHz from Issoudun with 10 kW and an omnidirectional antenna. - https://www.media-radio.info https://www.facebook.com/Radiosdumonde/ Michel FREMY`` Those times convert to 24h UT: 13-17 7405, 12-15 9900, 1430-1530 15285, 1505-1530 9905, 23-24 5875 -- but as I have noted, the last one starts later, maybe 2330. As for my remarx about DRM schedules on KiwiSDR players, Chris Mackerell, NZ replies: Hi Glenn, "They" in this case is myself as the maintainer of the database that serves the schedules such as https://www.drmrx.org/drm-broadcasts-bargraph-display/ and that feed into the KiwiSDR network. "They" get their information from reports on various mailing lists, in forums such as drmrx.org and "DRM Heard" KiwiSDR forum, and HFCC, plus my own monitoring. I have them in the database as TDF since that is what shows in the ID tag. These TDF DRMcast tests have been heard on & off for several months and I assume they are just transmitter tests, as with the sporadic appearances by CNR on various odd frequencies, but I've had no response from TDF or RFI. 73 Chris`` Mackerell (Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 2069) ** U S A. 257-MCW kHz, Jan 14 at 0712 UT, ND beacon JYR, which is 25 watts from eclipse-land, York, Nebraska. Last logged Nov 29, 2020. 269-MCW kHz, Jan 14 at 0714 UT, ND beacon BEX, which is 25 watts from Bloomfield, Iowa; I was tuned to 267-USB. ** BRAZIL. 11905-11910-11915-DRM, Jan 13 at 2310, RNA with soft jazz, good but occasional breakup; S9/+5, S/N 13 dB to Virginia SDR, 13.06 kbps (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** FRANCE. 5870-5875-5880-DRM, Jan 13 at 2332, TDF DRM noise at Pardinho, Brasil SDR but not enough to decode: but good to Bonaire, 18 dB, S8/9, 8.08 kbps with usual label as TDF; French talk from RFI. This and other frequencies now entered on the drop-down DRM sked in the player as TDF not RFI, but in pink as not verified rather than green as verified. Did they get it from Ivo and where did he get it? Not HFCC. Shows 2300-2400 on 5875 like Ivo but it was *not* on when checked at 2311, probably not starting until 2330; and off again after 2400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [non]. 13590.061, Jan 13 at 1953, VP S5-S7 historical narration mentioning Lusitania and President Wilson, slowish specialish Americanish English. Bet it`s VOA via its least accurate frequencish site, SAO TOME --- yes, scheduled this hour at 19-20. 2000, abrupt VOA ID and s/off, no YDD but dead air until 2002* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2068 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday January 13 at 2100 on WRMI 7780, S7-S9 and noisy via UTwente; a reactivated time first reported last week. Now WOR repeats 3 hours in a row toward the end of its weekly span: Also confirmed Wed Jan 13 from 2200:20 on WBCQ, 7490.159, S9+5/15 as measured in SAM mode by Virginia SDR. Also confirmed Wed Jan 13 at 2300 on WRMI 9955: S9/+15 at Virginia SDR, over jamming; at 2312 via Bonaire SDR, *under* noise jamming totalling S7-S9; at 2314 via Brasil SDR, over jamming, S9+10/30. ** CANADA. 392-MCW kHz, Jan 13 at 0419 UT, dash and ML, 500-watt ND beacon at La Malbaie / Charlevoix, Quebec; mixing with FMZ, Nebraska, see USA, on same frequency but very different pitch and no dash. Not to be confused with also on 392: ML and no dash, Monroe, Louisiana; nor Monroe, Georgia with ID as JNM, both 25 watts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** FRANCE. More about RFI in DRM on unlisted frequencies besides 5875 where I have heard it twice until 2400* --- from Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria: ``Unscheduled broadcasts of Radio France International in DRM mode: 1300-1700 on 7405; 1200-1500 on 9900; 1430-1530 on 15285; 1500-1530 on 9905; 2300-2400 on 5875 via Issoudun, all unregistered in Winter B20 HFCC Database 0000-2400 on 3965 ISS 010 kW / non-dir to WeEu French is registered 0900-1200 on 6175 ISS 100 kW / 153 deg to SEEu French is registered 0900-1200 on 6175 ISS 100 kW / 267 deg to SWEu French is registered 1200-1500 on 6175 ISS 150 kW / non-dir to WeEu French is registered January 13 NO SIGNAL on 7405, 9900, 15285 kHz. But 9905 kHz is on air again. Good signal plus decoding, but not strong audio via SDR Novosibirsk, Russia -- 73! Ivo Ivanov`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** TAIWAN [non]. 5800, UT Wed Jan 13 at 0335, WRMI with discussion in English about Cuba, no doubt `Freedom Synergy Radio` yet again occupying this hour instead of scheduled programming as filed previously under USA; FSR is pro-Taiwan, anti-ChiCom, but from the POV of anti-Commie Cubans (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 338-MCW kHz, Jan 13 at 0415 UT, ND beacon UMP, which is 25 watts from Indianapolis / MetroPolitan. I was tuned to 336-USB. 392-MCW kHz, Jan 13 at 0419 UT, ND beacon FMZ, which is 25 watts from Fairmont / Beklof, Nebraska; mixed with ML and dash, see CANADA, at a very different pitch. What is Beklof? Folkeb spelt backwards. In numerous airnav references, none explaining the name. Fairmont is directly linked to Enid on US 81, 20 km south of York and I-80, total-solar-eclipse territory. 412-MCW kHz, Jan 13 at 0420 UT, ND beacon CMY, which is 30 watts from Sparta / Fort McCoY, Wisconsin. I was tuned to 410-USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2068 monitoring; next: 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE [resumed] 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support: thanks this week to Robert Zerilli, Hazlet NJ, for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com and commenting: ``I`m a long time SWL and appreciate you being out there`` One may also contribute by MO or check in US$ on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA. WORLD OF RADIO 2069 should be ready by early UT Friday January 15 for first airing at 0130 on WRMI 5850 & 7780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5830, Jan 13 at 0336, WTWW-1 with dead air, or maybe JBM as it`s very weak S4-S6. Other TN signals degraded, WWCR 5890 & 5935, but a few hours later resurged. Circa 1500, neither 5830 nor WTWW-2 5085 is on the air, unlike yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7505, Jan 13 at 0347, VP music at S6-S7, has to be reactivated WRNO; no break at ToH, music with praise tinge continues past 0400. WRNO is just too close, 1010 km = 628 st mi; while e.g. WRMI at better further skip distance is still blasting in on 7570, 7730. And/or WRNO at QRP = reduced power (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIALS Dear Glenn, Happy New Year! May you be blessed for your service to the DX Radio community. Wednesday, January 13 2021
** ALGERIA [non]. 7375, Jan 12 at 1920, RRI in Romanian is very strong via UTwente, but challenged by CCI from RTA via FRANCE, the defective transmitter with continuous rapid clickbeeping - or beepclicking? Collision is obvious in HFCC B-20 registrations, quite a failure of ``coördination``. Meanwhile, RTA`s other frequency, 7315 is loud & clear. Romania is also on 5990, unchecked; EiBi lax 7375, but HFCC, Aoki & WRTH 2021 all show both Galbenis during these two sesquihours (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** BRAZIL. 11905-11910-11915-DRM, Jan 12 at 2355 while exploring DRM from FRANCE, q.v. on 5875, a quick check for RNA via Bonaire SDR: occasionally blasts in with clanging sounds, horrible. Label for Service 1 shows: ``XHC_AAC (A2B000) Brazil DRM Exper EEP 13.06 kbps``, whatever all that mean; SNR around 10 dB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** FRANCE. 5870-5875-5880-DRM, Jan 12 at 2337, like last night, unsked DRM here again. Noise can be heard at OKC KiwiSDR but no DRM capability; some closer ones lack enough S/N to decode: Rochester 7.3 and S5; Virginia 4.6 tho S9; Maine just noise. But Bonaire gets it, 13-14 dB, S8 and just a few dropouts from 2342 during choral/martial music, then French artistic discussion. Now Virginia occasionally drops in. Service #1 label, only, is same on both: ``AAC(1000) TDF EEP Data 8.08 kbps``, whatever all that mean, but that`s where the TDF ID is imbedded and probably I overlooked yesterday. Mostly talk till RFI ID and off 2400* like last night. DRM enthusiasts have not noticed this: at least not in the DRMNA iogroup with open archives, nothing at all posted since Jan 2, and before that mostly discussing equipment, not axual monitoring. It seems they are not in the habit of bandscanning to discover new things, rather waiting to be told where to tune by direct entry. I expect there are more of these from TDF/RFI yet to be found. Still nothing from France is on the Kiwi SDR DRM tuner drop-downs with alleged skeds of various stations. Is no one paying attention? Meanwhile, Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria, had run across another one: ``FRANCE Unscheduled broadcast of RFI in DRM mode January 12 1500-1530 on 9905 ISS ??? kW / ??? deg to ???? French. Good signal + decoding, but low audio via SDR Novosibirsk, Russia`` Originally he had reported this as 1500-1600, apparently assuming it would last a semihour more. I would not call the audio I hear on 5875 ``low``. There is also still nothing about these in Aoki or EiBI, nor HFCC: http://hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=B20&broadc=TDF shows 3 DRM transmissions, but neither of these. However, at this hour, 3965 should be in DRM, shown as experimental, 24 hours except for 0057-0100. UTwente lax DRM but in AM I can hear some DRM noise on both 3965 and 5875 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 684 kHz, Jan 12 at 0712 some audio seems Castilian, YL talking, no doubt RNE1, Sevilla, one our best split TA frequencies. WRTH 2021 shows 600 kW on page 367, 200 kW on page 527; which? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 15740, Jan 12 at 1926, S6-S9 of open carrier. Obviously VOA Grimesland warming up here to take over 15730 from 1930 amid French hour, which at first is JBA via BOTSWANA. About 1929.4 jumps from 15740 to 15730 still dead air, 1930 starts modulating and with some echo, long/short path, or still Botswana too? Can`t tell when Botswana goes off. Meanwhile // 17700 Grimesland has been very poor today, tho somedays very good (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2068 monitoring: NOT confirmed UT Tue Jan 12 at 0330 on WRMI 5800, despite Jeff White`s reassurance last week; rather after a break between two Freedom Synergy Radio episodes with Jeff inviting reception reports for that. I was expecting this since FSR was starting at 0300 presumably on System H which still claims WS & WOR this hour; 5800 just having switched from System D, RAE in Spanish with DX news until 0300. Next: 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW [to be confirmed; will appreciate anyone already awake checking this] 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE [resumed] 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support: thanks this week to Robert Zerilli, Hazlet NJ, for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com and commenting: ``I`m a long time SWL and appreciate you being out there`` One may also contribute by MO or check in US$ on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, Jan 12 at 1523, WTWW-2, S9+30 with rock in daytime on night frequency, still at 1611 and 1922 chex. Ditto 5830, WTWW-1, S9+20/10, with SFAW. I think both were also on earlier past 0700, but not logged as not that unusual. So all night and all day. Automation operation out of control? What does FCC allow? I see it has belatedly put up B-20 skeds as of Nov 23: https://transition.fcc.gov/ib/sand/neg/hf_web/B20FCC01.TXT 5085 00-24 but 5830 only 00-14 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 11566.64-USB, approx., Jan 12 at 1610, weak 2-way in Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0209 UT January 13
