Last report subjected Jan 23 should have been concerning Jan 22

** ALBANIA [non]. Re: Opera Singer profile on Radio Tirana 22/1/21...

``Glenn, As you said, this has been discussed previously but I’ll
mention again that the singer would be Gaqo Çako (pronounced GA-chyoh
CHA-Koh). Passed away 1/8/18

RT`s signature tune “Këputa një gjethe dafine" was his song that won
the 1978 Festivali I Kënges (Song Festival). He was apparently a
participant in 28 FIK’s and won 3 times.

Regarding a building being demolished --- are we talking about the
RTSH HQ in downtown Tirana? I walked past the facilities back in 2010
(just down the road from the still-intact former home of Enver Hoxha)
and would not be surprised if it’s being renovated. When I was there,
Albania was a whole big construction site and Tirana’s current mayor
is keen on modernising the city. - Regards, BRIAN POWELL VK2XBP,
Sydney, Australia``

``Hi, > Regarding a building being demolished: That's most likely
about the old building of Radio Tirana (the station moved out of it in
1965). I believe the demolishing has nothing to do with the RTSH
current building on Rruga Ismail Qemali.

https://exit.al/en/2021/01/11/historic-radio-tirana-building-looks-set-to-be-demolished/
73, Dmitry Mezin, Kazan/RUS``

``Thanks for the clarification, Dmitry! I was aware there was the old
premises of RT and they were repurposed in the communist era but I
assumed that would have been demolished long ago. Then again, I would
have thought Enver`s house would have been demolished, but it still
stands right in the middle of the now-trendy Blloku neighbourhood. --
Regards, BRIAN POWELL, VK2XBP, Sydney, Australia`` (WOR iogroup via
gh, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 11905-11910-11915, Jan 23 at 0327, RNA DRM via Bonaire SDR
with S/N only 7.4 to 8.4 dB but good decode, mostly music. Displays
Service 1 as ``AAC(A2B000) Brasil DRM Exp EEP Data 12.46 kbps``; and
Service 2 as ``(A2B001) DRM Journaline EEP Data 2.30 kbps``
with a few rotating one-line headlines displayed, such as about COVID
in Amazonas; 0348 now S5-S6, S/N 11.9 dB, 12.46 kbps with solid tho
lofi copy, voice ID ``Nacional FM 96.1, música brasileira em primeiro
lugar`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 284-MCW kHz, Jan 23 at 0712 UT, ND beacon QD with dash, in
The Pas, Manitoba, except it`s totally miskeyed as ``ЯС`` -- Cyrillic;
the Russians are coming!2 .-.-/... as previously explained (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 9155, Jan 23 at 0745, assertive YL in Chinese at S5-S9, //
weaker S3-S5 9280, both CNR1 jamming frequencies against Sound of Hope
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also TAIWAN [non]

** CUBA. 13508 vs CODAR, 13572 S6, 13636 S9+20, 13766 S9, 13831 S7-S9,
13896 S2, 13964 trace, all approx., spurblobs out of 13700-AM RHC
which is S9+20, mostly music at 1535 Jan 23. Closer ones quite
readable in FM or AM modes with F# tone, totally unreadable in SSB;
wide but intervals of approx. 65 kHz; peters out just in time not to
show above 14000 in hamband. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY [non]. 15350, Jan 23 at 1550, S5-S6, rapid clickbeepery,
signature of that defective Issoudun, FRANCE transmitter, also talk in
presumed Hausa during DW`s Saturday-only silly-ballgame service,
except does not sound like play-by-play; no crowd noise because being
played without an audience? Also // 15195 slightly stronger with no
beepclix. Both nominally 500 kW, only 7 degrees apart, 172 and 165
azimuths respectively (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUINEA [and non]. 9650, Jan 23 at 0742, S7-S9 French talk atop some
music, i.e. sporadically active RTG, vs North Korea`s multihour
Japanese service starting at 0700. Guinea should be in clear from its
*0600 after Cuban 0500* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6935-USB, Jan 22 at 2157-2230*, e-QSL from RADIO
NOVA received 5 minutes after they must have seen my last log report
posted; fortunately, since I had their email address wrong and had not
yet sent directly to them; it`s radionovausa2020@gmail.com
Illustration on QSL is same as on SSTV closing image. Thanks!
It`s now #109 in my QSL gallery:
http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html
in addition to previous Radio Novas #89 and #94, also on 6935-USB
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TAIWAN [non]. Freedom Synergy Radio, the pro-Taiwan program via
WRMI appears to be connected to the wacko Falun Gong cult; an item on
WRMI FB about FSR linx to a long article in the FG`s Epoch Times; the
same Trumper folx responsible for Sound of Hope and provoking huge
jamming network (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VATICAN [and non]. 11935, Jan 23 at 1556, HOA music at S6-S9, 1557
announcement mentioning e-mail, 1558 dead air with flutter past 1600
when there is a trace of modulation. HFCC shows Vatican Radio in
Amharic via SMG, at 1600 switching to Swahili via MADAGASCAR. Radio
Martí and jamming 11930 not a problem at first with USB tuning (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2959.84, Jan 23 at 0212, JBA carrier, maybe trace of
modulation, suspected off-frequency MW harmonic e.g. from 1480-, Latin
American? I`ve searched old logs and can`t find anything other than
Mobile, Alabama, but which was not off-frequency. Now I also try
several SDRs in LAm and USA, but nothing. Maybe just a local birdie
but bears further checking, also other former harmonic spots, 2940v,
2860v (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ALBANIA [non]. 5850, Friday January 22 at 2300 checking secret R.
Tirana relay via WRMI: certainly not the same episode I heard 8 days
ago and seems current rather than pre-Xmas. As always sign-on claims
RT is heard ``only on internet`` refusing even to recognize this SW
airtime, probably donated. Program previews: news, press review,
profile. Caster is YL this time rather than OM. Signal very strong but
also high local noise level, plus accent makes it hard to follow. Does
mention date January 20, 2021 in connexion with something. 2307
so-called Press Review seems all about industrial and agricultural
produxion statistics just like in the good-ole Stalinist days; also
funding for a hydro power project with date mentioned January 27,
2021. 2313 into Profile of an opera singer born 24.1.35. His name
mentioned once at the start and I could not catch it at all; they
should at least spell names of such subjects for us ignorant
listeners. Example played: him singing the tune which is also RT`s
theme song; identity and source of which we discussed in detail last
year.

As for the Jan 14 show I heard before, Richard Lemke, St. Albert,
Alberta, replies about that: ``Dear Glenn: WRMI, 5850 kHz, 2300 UT.
After hearing the Mailbag Show on Radio Tirana on Jan 12, 13, 14, 15,
Yes, I did hearing confirming the same program with mail from FL and
how Albanians celebrate Christmas. According to information that I
heard from Sheldon Harvey, the building on site has been demolished,
is gone. I tried to send an e mail that got returned to me very fast.
Richard Lemke, January 21, 2021`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 11815+, Jan 22 at 0253, checking for something else at
Pardinho SP SDR, I find splatter down past 11810, from this with music
and Brazuguese talk, S9+15/25, in SynchAM mode displaying slight
carrier offset+plus varying 10-12 Hz; and to the ear rather distorted.
I.e. must be R. Brasil Central, Goiânia, active here but rarely
detected direct (nor on 4985); perhaps with summer sporadic E boost.
Distance 718 km = 446 statute miles (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 290-MCW kHz, Jan 22 at 0726 UT, dash and QR, 100-watt ND
beacon at Regina, Saskatchewan. This area of LW is often blocked by
local noise blob peak (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13629 & 13770 approx., Jan 22 at 1452, just traces of
spurblobs from RHC 13700; something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN. 6115, Jan 22 at 0715, song at S9+10/20, seems too strong for
R. Nikkei, let alone Congo; quite a bit stronger than the other JOZ,
S9+10 on 6055. Fleeting thought, maybe RHC jumped off frequency? 0719
song, ``Love Was Made For Me And You``, letter by letter in English
and then announcement sounds Japanesish English; no J signals yet on
75m to compare vs hams. But must be Nikkei (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6935-USB, Jan 22 at 2157, rock music past 2200, fair
signal; 2205 synthyl ID for Radio Nova and address
radionova2020@gmail.com; more music none recognized; 2221 ID; 2224
loon? calls mixed with voice ID by synthom, modulated Morse code RADIO
NOVA, ID again, 2226 repeat loons and MCW ID; 2227 occasional
bird/nature calls, about to go off? No, one more voice ID at 2228 and
SSTV beepery until 2230* seems really finished. SSTV pulsing was at
rate of about 144/minute, or 2.4 per second -- restarting each scan
line? More reports and images here, none of them sharp:

** CANADA. Re: ```274-MCW, Jan 20 at 0737 UT, dash and YPM, 25-watt
NDB from upnorth Pilangikum, Ontario, still in Hepburn list in red as
``back on``. Distance is 1741 km = 1082 stmi, or 43.28 watts per
mile.``` --- Should have read miles per watt, tnx to Richard Line in
MI for catching that (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. Re: ``U S A. 286-MCW kHz, Jan 20 at 0735 UT, ND beacon
.-.-/... --- what??? .-.- is not a Roman letter but Russian ``ya``. I
listen again and again, and that`s what it sounds like, tuned to
284-USB. But this must be on 286, EKS in Ennis, Montana, heard without
a pause between dit for E and dah-dit-dah for K! Classaxe shows no
note about any such error``

Harold Frodge, MI, replies: ``No mystery --- 284 QD 0.4 The Pas MB, Le
Pas A/P; 01 Nov (DT), 06 Dec (KZ) [Has misskeyed as .-.-/...]``

Then I find this in classaxe.com about QD 284: ``Most often miskeys
with the first dash in each character replaced with a dot. Sounds like
AA S. 15Feb2020``

But not always: I have also heard correct QD. This seems about as
convoluted an explanation as mine of another station lacking a pause
between two letters. But pinning down the frequency to 284 implies
it`s QD --- and what I heard did have a dash, overlooked in my
original report, so it`s Canadian (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9700, Jan 21 at 0126, RHC English only S6-S9 direct, but:

5040, Jan 21 at 0127, RHC off or below noise level here; 0135 checking
Bonaire SDR, only a JBA carrier, could be India? While 5025 Rebelde is
good. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13634, 13569, 13769, 13838 all approx., Jan 21 at 1443,
extremely distorted spurblobs out of RHC 13700-AM. Something`s always
wrong at RHC.

13739.796, Jan 21 at 1445, the other RHC 22m frequency bears the
transmitter off-frequency from 13740.00. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH. Re the 3+1 pips I heard at strange time of 1344 Jan 19
on 1566 kHz, ``One of the clubs has compiled a timesignal reference
but I have not found it again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)``

Richard Langley replies on the WOR iog: ``It is attached. See FEBC in
the list. You're welcome. -- Richard Langley``

And thank you. I see there are some others with 3+1, altho FEBC
appears to be the only one that fits on 1566; e.g. there are no NHKs
at all on 1566 per WRTH. I`m really quite sure that`s it, but curious
if others have noticed the pips at odd times like transmission changes
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2069 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday January
20 at 2100 ono WRMI 7780, S7-S9 to UTwente SDR.

Also confirmed Wed Jan 20 from 2200:20 on WBCQ 7490.189v, S8-S9
direct. Briefly some 2-way SSB QRM around 2102.

Missed checking Wed Jan 20 at 2300 on WRMI 9955; anyone hear it?

Confirmed UT Thu Jan 21 at 0130 on WRMI 5010, S9/+10 to Bonaire SDR.
JBA carrier here vs S9+10 high noise level.

New WOR 2070 should be ready by early UT Jan 22 for first airings

Greetings from the United States of America, again under honest,
rational, competent, empathetic management!

** CANADA. 335-MCW, Jan 20 at 0731 UT, dash and YLD, 1000-watt ND
beacon at Chapleau, Ontario.

274-MCW, Jan 20 at 0737 UT, dash and YPM, 25-watt NDB from upnorth
Pilangikum, Ontario, still in Hepburn list in red as ``back on``.
Distance is 1741 km = 1082 stmi, or 43.28 watts per mile.

One of these quiet winter nights before spring storming set in, I
should report *every* Canadian beacon audible in one session; I tend
to avoid relogs of same ones over and over again (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Jan 20 at 0742, JBA carrier but stronger than
837 and several other TA carriers still audible. This one surely R.
Kiribati, which has often been absent around this time; as there is
nothing more than 3 kW from W Europe = Ireland; 20/50 kW from Mideast
but too late for them, while it`s long after sunset in east Kiribati.
See also UNIDENTIFIED (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KUWAIT. 1548 kHz, Jan 20 at 0153 UT, JBA carrier but really stands
out as nothing else at 9-kHz steps audible highband above 1107. There
are two 500 kW, R. Sawa, Kuwait 24 hours; and TWR via Pridnestrovye to
eastern Europe but only at 1930-2130 per WRTH 2021. See also
UNIDENTIFIED. 1548 is what`s left of the once great VOA Arabic service

** U S A. 293-MCW kHz, Jan 20 at 0733 UT, two NDBs mixing, TOR and
FBY. Commonly I only hear FBY, 25 watts from FairBurY, Nebraska. TOR
is 50 watts from TORrington, Wyoming. Previously but not now on 293 I
have also heard UI, qUIncy, Illinois.

286-MCW kHz, Jan 20 at 0735 UT, ND beacon .-.-/... --- what??? .-.- is
not a Roman letter but Russian ``ya``. I listen again and again, and
that`s what it sounds like, tuned to 284-USB. But this must be on 286,
EKS in Ennis, Montana, heard without a pause between dit for E and
dah-dit-dah for K! Classaxe shows no note about any such error,
https://www.classaxe.com/dx/ndb/rna/signal_list
and BTW is being replaced by:
https://rxx.classaxe.com/en/rna/signals

269-MCW kHz, Jan 20 at 0730 UT, ND beacon BEX, which is 25 watts from
Bloomfield, Iowa; I was tuned to 267-USB where it`s mixing about
equally with 25-watt HET, Henryetta, Oklahoma, which is usually alone
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2069 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday January

finally checked it via timer recording, VG thisaway, and onward to
Asia?? Center beam crosses circa Saipan/NMI, but by then it should be
broad enough for east Asia too. How is it there or even in NZ/Au?

** U S A. 5850 & 5950, Jan 19 at 0709, WRMIs-12 and -8 are still off,
so presumably all the others too. Bob Biermann later informs that
power finally restored at 0739.

15770, Jan 19 at 1501, my first check finds WRMI-9 back on here, with
SMTV stuff about nim cruelty.

9955, Jan 19 at 1502, WRMI-3 still on with `Freedom Synergy Radio`
about smart farming in Taiwan, S9+20. Skedgrid has been updated again
contrarily to show TOMBS now at 1500-1530 M-F and 1530-1700 daily
along with other expansions. Yes, 9955 still on with BS at 1648 check,

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search, January 19 at
1327-1345: Looping NW on the DX-398 so from Japan/E Asia: 594, 693,
747, 774, 828, 972, 1323, 1422, 1566. From WSW so Australia: 702,
1548. Uncertain DF: 1503, 1512, both nothing more than 10 kW from
either. LSR here was 1341 UT.

1566, from 1342 Jan 19, paying special attention to surely 250 kW
Jeju, South Korea, but seems to have a slight beat from second
carrier, China? But no more than 10 kW there. At 1344 a 3+1
timesignal(?) cuts thru and then the station weakens, i.e. when FEBC
change antenna patterns and languages from Japanese to Chinese. Is
that non-hour TS typical of HLAZ?

One of the clubs has compiled a timesignal reference but I have not
found it again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
