Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Wed Sept 28 at 1434 tune-in via
Argentine remote, LRA36 has already started, amid themesong. Wonder if
nominal *1430 now instead of *1500? Good signal, but neglected to note
S meter as I am breakfasting. 1436 historical talk; 1438 different
song; 1442, ``nos une`` = unites us ID, YLs start live talk on 23rd
programa of the season, ``muy especial``, not sure why. Cites geo
coordinates, base foundation date 17 Dec 1952. This is 28 Sept,
springtime! Temp a balmy -9 C, wind chill -13 since winds are only 8
kph from south. 1447 phone numbers and other contact info; 1450 song;
then internet out from remote; 1502 resuming in chat with male voice
but chopped off amid at 1514* and never back on by 1533 when I quit.
Maybe they kept recording and will get more of it out on the Saturday
replay?

Meanwhile, Clara Listensprechen encountered this huge reference of
Antarctica themed recordings, music and otherwise:
http://www.antarctic-circle.org/valmar.htm
Searching on word Esperanza gets half a dozen hits in two or three
entries, but none about the LRA36 themesong near start of each
broadcast (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 11930, Sept 28 at 0627, pulse jamming is still
going! Don`t you believe press that Cuba is totally blacked out.
Obviously jamming is still of highest priority, surpassed only by
jamming against nothing! However, can not find any others on now in the
13, 11 or 9 MHz bands, but yes at 0637 on 7435 & 7335 too. Ron Howard
in CA was soon hearing CFVP in the clear on 6030. Sept 28 at 0649, no
RHC or Rebelde on any 6 or 5 MHz channel, something wrong but maybe not
their fault for a change, unless demerits for no backup power --- yeah,
if the jammers against nothing can --- (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.995, Sept 28 at 2157, NO signal from R. Cairo, English
into UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846, Sept 28 at 0650, no JBA signal from R. Kiribati.
Gary Pence reports from trying the Hawai`i remote: ``846 khz no show as
of 0521z. Not yet. Maybe later?`` And Ron Howard reports: ``Hi Glenn
and Gary, On Sept 21 (Wednesday), I also found 846 was noticeably
silent. Yes, again off the air again today (Sept 28 - Wed.). Their
regular schedule must be off the air on Wednesday and Sunday, as we
have been observing. Ron California`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADEIRA. 28435 USB, Sept 28 at 2030, CT9ABY making quick contacts,
QRZ as if a contest, among a few phone signals on 10 m, no beacons:

``CT9ABY Madeira Island flag Madeira Island
Branislav Panak
Porto Moniz
Madeira Island
QSL: via OM2FY or OM QSL buro, please don't use CT QSL bureau`` per
qrz.com so I guess he be from Czechia (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA [and non]. 7255-, Sept 28 at 0638, no signal from VON
direct. No show either into Canary remote Sept 28 at 1752, 1831 chex,
just very weak not-off-frequency Tibet at the first time (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15520, Wed Sept 28 at 2015, yet another day of dead air on
the REE ME frequency, S5/S7 direct; and still so into Maryland SDR at
2202 during tokEnglish. 2215 about a Cantata on VG 17855, almost as
good on SAm 11940, and even 11670 usable for Africa if you ignore the
squeal. Something`s always nutty at Noblejas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830.021, Sept 28 at 2159, VOT IS & ID in English, 2200
sign-on with sked, S9+40/50 into UTwente, good mod but with some hum.
Occasionally see this +21 Hz offset, otherwise only about +3, so
suspect they switch to different transmitters. Something`s erroneous at
Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** UKRAINE [non]. 7730, Sept 28 at 0500, UR1 via WRMI, NO `Ukraine:
Security Issue` in English thru 0518, and does not sound like
Ukrainian, rather another Slavic language, presumably Slovak as Ivo
noted recently; so no English at all during this hour any more? U:SI is
produced multilingually including Slovak. Anyhow we can still monitor
it from website in English. Maybe WRMI could drelay another hour where
English be?

Note: in my summaries I seldom mention places or names I am not
familiar with nor how to spell them. One more reply came in favor of my
providing these, for a total of three. Yet I continue, for now.
Catching up on the last two, I click on the latest, Sept 27:

http://ukr.radio/images/ckeditor/files/files/ENG_NEWS_24_09_22.mp3
Still no verbal dating. Exhumations completed, 447 bodies in Kharkiv
region. Tied hands, wounds, torture. More mass burial sites found in
Izium. More than 1000 R soldiers IDed who committed crimes. Witnesses
interviewed here and elsewhere. Astounding number of executed citizens.
Five EU countries do not want to join lawsuit at EU court of human
rights. Torture victim at Donetsk describes jail conditions. Sept 21
exchange of prisoners. Some secure in Turkey, secret whereabouts...

This all sounds very familiar --- tho labeled Sept 27, the linked URL
indicates it`s for Sept 24! Manually changing 4 to 7, really Sept 27:

http://ukr.radio/images/ckeditor/files/files/ENG_NEWS_27_09_22.mp3
Settlement in Kharkiv region liberated, Kopyansk. As of morn of Sept
27, 1,171 children injured in U by R, 395 killed, 776 injured. Total
number still being established. Modern weapons need to be provided,
especially by Germany rather than NATO. General interviewed by TIME
magazine Oct 10 issue. U brilliant success in Kharkiv region. Kamikaze
drones deployed by R to save expensive missiles. 349 emergency
infrastruxure facilities damaged in war, 11 critical heating completely
destroyed. U demand at least $ 300 billion in reparations from R, from
accts sanxioned in G7 countries. Show mechanism of how it could be
done? UN General Assembly working on int`l compensation mechanism. U
has unique potential for attracting investment, says Pres Z. Additional
sanxions against R proposed, such as on diamonds, says jeweler leader.
Blood diamonds in Yakutia. Europe unfair to Ukrainians, should be glad
food to N Africa got out, preventing more immigration to Europe in
November.

http://www.nrcu.gov.ua/images/ckeditor/files/files/ENG_NEWS_26_09_22.mp3
For Sept 26, correctly linked, including: 15 year old girl died, result
of R missile strike. Another torture chamber uncovered in village,
Kharkiv region. Then deported them to Russia. As of Sept 16, R no
longer signatory to EU human rights convention. Z says Putin wants to
scare whole world with nuclear blackmail. Shelling of NPPs could spread
radiation thruout Europe, radioactive dust. R using mobilisation as
means of killing people in occupied Crimea, genocidal policy, mostly
against Tatars; also Dagestan, Siberia. Street protests in Russian
cities. Preparing for increased cyber attax. U to receive defense
systems from USA, but not enough. 73% of U believe west continues to
support U (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 347 MCW kHz, Sept 28 at 0701 UT, AFK, 25 watt ND beacon at
Nebraska City NE, and not much else; vs bleedover from 350 RG OKC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 6993, Sept 28 at 0638, JBA carrier: what better time to relog
presumed WH2XWF, as last reported: ```6993, Feb 9, 2022 at 0724 UT, JBA
carrier, presumed same as last logged Oct 4, 2021, when I also
referenced this from 2017: ``6993, Sept 10 [2017] at 0002, JBA carrier
as almost always audible from presumed WH2XWF, experimental 164-watt
transmitters with several locations in Florida, to study ionospheric
disturbances, never IDing, nothing but dead air``. So new log for the
record``` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2157 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday
September 27 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S7/9+10 into Maryland SDR.

``From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of
Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long
wires in the trees, Dear Glenn: World of Radio, monitoring and
confirming the latest for #2157, first airing was missed, heard Blues
Radio Int instead, these program are aired almost at the same time at
0130 UT Friday. WRMI:

9955, 2230, heard World of Radio aired, 2259. Sep 27 [Tue]
9395, lots of fading, 2330, 2344, 2359 (45433), 2359, Sep 27 [Tue]
5850, Hurricane, no Signal heard, power outage, 1030, Sep 28 [Wed]
(Lemke, Richard -AB) 73’s, have a great start to the Fall season,
Richard``

``Just a note, WRMI was absent this morning (1030 UT) on 5850 (no WOR
on my morning walk…) Hope everyone is OK there… Chris KC5IIE Tulsa,
OK``.

Confirmed Wednesday September 28 the 2100:21 on WBCQ 7489.94v, away
from computer straining to hear direct from 2120, S4/S7, can tell it`s
my voice but not enough to recognize the correct edition -- until
finally at 2127.5, I hear ``2,4,8,5``, the Vanuatu frequency and at
very end, ``I say again, standard disclaimer``. I don`t say it again
every week, but did this week vs WRMI cutting off my last few words on
some playbacks. Next:

0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Next new WOR 2158 should be ready by 0130 UT Friday September 30 but
first broadcast on WRMI 5850 & 7730 was deleted last week, so try 0330
on 7780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WRMI chex as hurricane approaches: Sept 28 at 0632, 9455 &
9395 are off, but at 0636, 7730 is still on later than usual, with
Brazilian song. At 0640, 5800, 5850 and 5950 all off, but probably 5850
is only one supposed to be on by now. 5850 also off during WOR at 1030,
q.v. Further reports in WOR iog of WRMIs off, and Jeff White has been
posting updates on the situation, where else? on disgraced FB:
https://www.facebook.com/wrmiradio
including: ``Hurricane update: So far, at 1354 UTC Wednesday, we're on
the air with our normal schedule. But it's likely that we'll have to
shut transmitters down later today or tomorrow as the hurricane goes
through this area. Then if we don't have antenna damage and if we have
power, we'll go back on the air. We'll keep you posted.``

WRMI situation Sept 28 at 2016 direct: 15770 on with gospel huxter. At
2022, 9395 & 9455 off; 9955 on with TOMBS at S9 undermodulated; 7730
JBA carrier. At 2032, 21525 is on and JBA.

More from FB: ``Hurricane update as of 2134 UTC Wednesday: Winds are
picking up here in Okeechobee, affecting some of our transmission
lines. Our frequencies of 7780, 9955, 5950 and 15770 kHz are on the air
with our regular schedule. 9455, 9395, 5800, 7570, 5850 and 7780 kHz
are off the air and will probably remain off for the rest of the night
and into tomorrow. We expect to air 5010 kHz on its regular schedule
tonight. Our Internet stream at www.wrmi.net is on as usual. This is
all subject to change depending on conditions. Our lights have been
flickering on and off, so a power outage could occur at any time.``

``Hurricane update as of 2203 UTC Wednesday: Winds are getting much
higher here, and 15770 kHz has gone down unfortunately. We still have
7780, 9955 and 5950 kHz on the air.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330v, Sept 28 at 0634, WBCQ/WLCR is on in English. So
unreliable that whether it`s off or on is notable. Also on at 2021
check (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9275, Sept 28 at 2020, WMLK is OFF in the middle of its
6-day-a-week sked. No hurricane excuse there. Neighbor in more ways
than one, 9265 WINB, is nominal (Glenn Hauser, OK. WOR)

** VANUATU. 7890 & 7932 & 8620, Sept 28 at 0635, still no RV harmonic
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs September 27, 2022  View Printable Version
Wednesday, September 28 2022

Logs
** BRAZIL. 9664.943, Sept 27 at 0658, RVM, S6/S9 of music with always
good modulation but frequency slipping a bit again from 9665.000
nominalness (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, Sept 27 at 0654, RHC in English! Rather than Radio
Rebelde. All real RHC frequencies are off: 5040, 6000, 6060, 6100,
6165. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9965 & 9955, Sept 27 at 0701, pulse jamming against nothing
despite imminent hurricane hitting western Cuba. Quite different pulse
rates: faster on 9965, slower on 9955. WRMI is currently silent
overnight, but when on it would be deceased Brother HyStairical, never
exile programming nor anything in Spanish. 9965? That was a Radio
República via Costa Rica, gone for a decade or more. 9965 used by
Palau now but not before 0807/1250 and mostly weekends only, altho
`HBN` registered HFCC available 24/7/365! Something`s always
incredible at the incompetent DentroCuban Jamming Command (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 11760 & 15140, Sept 27 at 1526, NO signals direct
from the usual RHCs for midday, no doubt blown off by Hurricane Ian;
and still nil into Maryland SDR at 1840.

How about jammers around 1530? Cannot detect any on current Martí
frequencies, 11860, 11930, 13605. The 11s are not very strong anyway
and 11860 has fast SAH, presumably QRyeMen; 13605 so strong cannot be
certain no J now. One would expect some SW jamming to continue from
sites further east in The Greatest Antille, but winds aside, they
already have electricity supply problems. RM helpfully covers weather
warnings for Cuba. But at 1845, definite jamming on all three, 13605
worst, as heard by Maryland SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11950, Sept 27 at 2305, the *only* RHC or Rebelde SW
frequency on air, quick check of all possible fundamentals 5.025 to
15.73 MHz into Maryland SDR. EiBi shows 11950 site Bauta, but so are
most of those missing. With hurricane info (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.994, Sept 27 at 2141, R. Cairo manages to be on air
today, S7/9+10 into Maryland SDR, but humwhine only, no programod. By
2159 some supressed music, 2200 timesignal 4+1 really cuts thru, news
theme, a grand march, but unreadable. Something`s always egregious at
Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Sept 27 at 0702, cannot detect a JBA carrier
from R. Kiribati, local noise level is higher than usual. But Ron
Howard heard and recorded it at 0658 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA [and non]. 7255-, Sept 27 at 0652, VON is off. No signal
either at 1642 into Canary/Fuerteventura SDR. But at 1727 recheck VON
is on, concluding some listener contact show in English, minus 67 Hz =
7254.933, and dumps off air at 1729*, no longer impeding Tibet close
to 7255.000 nor huge splash from S9+10/20 7265 CRI Russian via Urumqi,
EAST TURKISTAN, std denunciation, 1730 clip-clops and historical
dramatization again; and during brief pause, English audible under,
which is BBC via MADAGASCAR, I daresay a horrible collision around
Africa. VON still off at 1827 check.

The studio staff at VON must be very demoralized, what sounds like
very well-produced programming being mistreated this way; OR, like so
many SW services, clueless about what happen to their product on the
way out to the world (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15520, Tuesday Sept 27 at 1457, still 1520, S5/S7 of dead
air direct from REE for the third? day in a row, no one noticing at
Noblejas? Geez. Still DA at 1832 check into Maryland SDR.

15520, Sept 27 at 1643, absolutely dead air at S9/+12 into Canary
SDR.

11670 is only other frequency on this early, 1644 in Arabic this
semihour M-F, with squeal, S8/9+12. To be followed by Russian
1700-1730 M-F despite azimuth 161 across Africa! No antenna toward
Russia. Each 200 kW frequency is stuck on a single angle, no matter
what the language or presumed `target`. Something`s always nonsensical
at Noblejas, messed up in Madrid. Wait a minute! 1700 into Brazilian
Portuguese, about Venezuelan migration, not in Russian. Would RR have
been on 15520 if modulated?

The language lineups in Aoki are not identical: 15520 with Spanish M-F
1500-1730; 11670 breaking away to Arabic & Russian M-F 1630-1730; and
never Portuguese on either.

How about EiBi? 11670 at 1630-1730 M-F in Arabic, Portuguese, no
Russian. 15520 differs: 1630-1700 M-F Arabic, but 1700-1730 depends on
DOW: M/W/F Russian, Tue Sephardic, Thu/Sat/Sun Spanish; no Portuguese
ever. This resembles WRTH 2022 sked for B-21 with 12030 & 11685
instead, and everything one real UT hour later since REE caves in to
stupid DST during A-season, inapplicable in many targets, but more
convenient in studio keeping times the ``same``.

But by 1715, 15520 still dead air, of course! and 11670 with that
annoying squeal. It`s equally bad on LSB and USB tuning, so part of
the DSB modulation. AMNarrow is not enough to escape it either. 15520
still DA, S3/S8 direct at 2021 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830.0027, Sept 27 at 2200, VOT opening English, VG today
S9/+30 into Maryland SDR, top news story: Tuerkiyeish Language Day
lauded by pres, Sweden should be rid of PKK, all the way until 2216
Review of Tuerkiyeish Press; 2219 Weekly Commentary to 2229 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2157 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday September 27 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/20 direct,
undermodulated.

Also confirmed Tuesday September 27 at 2230 on WRMI 9955, S9/+12 into
Maryland SDR, no jamming audible, wonder why? And still not at 2258
closing, but when Radio Libertad starts at 2300 with hurrican news,
there`s the jamming starting to build, but way under for Marylanders.
Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

** U S A. Sept 27 at 1830, all scheduled frequencies of WRMI are still
on the air into Maryland SDR: 21525, 15770, 9955, 9455, 9395, 7730;
mostly with Brother Scare, who assures us there were no dinosaurs, let
alone anything 10 megayears ago.

21525, Sept 27 at 2016, this WRMI, `Radio Africa` hits S9+10 during
`Healing Word` program; normal JBA carrier getting sporadic E boost.

Hurricane Ian plans to landfall Florida at Venice, then up the length
of the state, so WRMI won`t get a direct hit but high circumwinds may
well cause voluntary or involuntary absences, as may power outages.
Keep an ear on WRMI frequencies.

In a lengthy thread on the WOR iogroup about SW station expenses, Ken
Zichi suggests that WRMI might install lots of solar panels, and/or
wind power on all that farm/ranch property it occupies. However, I
think it`s not owned outright; hydro power not an option in flat Fla,
unlike it was for HCJB, and tsunamis, storm surges cannot be depended
upon, nor hurricane force winds. Now Jeff White just replied:

``Well, it’s a nice idea. Certainly electricity is our largest
expense. It would be nice if we could use solar power. But we have had
a number of companies visiting us over the years proposing such a
thing, and when they find out how much electricity we use, they
realize it’s useless. You would have to cover the whole square mile
with solar panels, and I don’t know if that would even be enough.

And we don’t own the property. We lease it, and our lease only permits
us to use a certain amount of area for the antennas. The rest of it is
for the owner’s cows to graze.

Like I said, it’s a great idea in theory. But there’s just no
substitute for electricity at this point. We could do like many if not
most other stations are already doing or planning — reduce power.
Most listeners wouldn’t even notice it. At the HFCC in Bulgaria in
August, everybody was talking about it. It would be a better
alternative than reducing the number of hours of transmissions. One
station in the US has just had to do this, and it’s a real shame.
