Glenn Hauser logs March 19-20, 2021  View Printable Version
Saturday, March 20 2021

Hauser
** CANADA [non]. Re 15300.055V, under GERMANY, BVB, March 19 at 1439:
altho EiBi shows site as Nauen, latest HFCC shows ISSoudun, FRANCE
started 01 February; not as BVB but generically as MBR multilingual.
ISS is more likely to be off-frequency than NAU, but it could be even
more likely TAC = Uzbekistan, as Wolfgang Bueschel points out
registered for A-21 by MBR BOTH for UZB and F; maybe already (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. 11609.960, March 19 at 2144, Chinese from MWV is
considerably off-frequency; usual good signal far beyond target
Europe, not China.

[non] Recheck at 2235, now a JBA on 11610.00, which is KSDA GUAM in
Vietnamese (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6960-AM, UT Sat March 20 at 0128, only pirate
activity here at S8-S9, ``Proud to be an American``; 0131 Kermit The
Frog, ``It`s Not Easy Bein` Green``; 0133.6 ID missed, another
``green`` song? Maybe a theme à la Wolverine. ``Check out our new
website``, https://ballsmacker.net by YL with tenpins SFX. 0144 ``Ballad
of the Green Bérets``. 0146 ID, more music. 0200 Maxine offers
special eQSL for reports on this broadcast, to
ballsmacker@protonmail.com and then soft jazz arrangement of `What
Child Is This?`. 0207 ID mentioning 6960; still going past 0213.
Enjoyed the show. Above is from my own notes from the R75 with 100`
E-W longwire, written before consulting HF Underground where there are
bound to be many more reports:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,79272.0.html
starting at 0102, including from station herself, to be repeated
later, not yet in AM $ tereo but plans to do so (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1460, March 19 at 1826 UT on caradio, KZUE El Reno music
modulation is cutting out rapidly at rate of maybe 8 times per minute.
Maybe CD player malfunxion? Nothing done about it until fade to dead
air at 1831 which continues until at least 1837. I was going to
count/time the cutting per second against my watch, but driving, and
it stopped before I could stop (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Friday March 19 between precise timesignals at 2300:00
and 2330:00, REE token English M/W/F broadcast, starts with Justin Coe
with new schedule effective March 28 for REE in general, nothing about
English in particular, but likely shifting to 2200. Here is how he put
it:

M-F 15-23 W Africa, S Atlantic 11670; Mideast, Indian Ocean 15520
M-F 18-02 N America 17855; South America 11940
Sat & Sun same frequencies and targets at 14-22

Once again, no mention of present NAm frequency 9690, which BTW is
near-local-quality now, S9+30. A much higher frequency in the summer
daytime is certainly needed, 17855 as used a few years ago, and it
will be interesting to see how well and how long it hold up, as NO
other European, nor anywhere overseas, is even attempting to serve us
on 16m! But over mostly- or all-dark path a much lower frequency is
required, like 9690, after, say, 2200.

Anyhow, I listen to the rest of the semihour, as Alison Hughes
introduces a `Culture` show, first about Bellini`s opera `Norma` being
produced at the Teatro Real, including beautiful yet heard-rending
performances of the aria `Casta Diva`. Next topic at 2321, cinema
chain reopens after closing in February, with new COVID restrixions.
Then, film-music composer García Abril has died.

``Antón García Abril (Teruel, 19 de mayo de 1933 – Madrid, 17 de marzo
de 2021) fue un compositor y músico español, autor de música
orquestal, música de cámara, obras vocales y bandas sonoras para
películas y series de televisión.`` hit as I search on his name.

2327, refers to other platforms besides SW for hearing REE, with
detailed parameters of all their satellite feeds to different
worldparts. 2330 TS and into French (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 6994-USB, 0123 UT Sat March 20, MARS announcements, but
never caught the callsign of the individual reading. As I tune in, is
spelling e-mail address mallen@afmars.mil.us then on to paragraph 4.
Good S9+10 but bad news for the low-power Florida propagation carriers
JBA beating on 6993-AM. Considering starting an e-mail newsletter to
supplement this broadcast. A bit of CW QRM. ``Masters of the HF
domain``.

Info about next broadcasts, even revealing frequencies! 02 April 2021,
2300z, 11121.0 kHz; 2320z, 6994.0 kHz. 03 April 2021, 0100z, 11121.0
kHz; 0120z, 11121.0 kHz, and 6994.0 kHz. This broadcast is supported
by the 12th Air Force MARS Military Signal Squadron; out`` at 0127
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17314-USB, March 19 at 2253, S9+10 marine weather by roboOM,
very loud at first and modulation somewhat distorted as usual from
USCG stations, later fading considerably. Wind direxions and speeds in
knots, seas in feet, sometimes rain chances but little else, day by
day and night by night as far ahead as next Tuesday. ``Forecaster:
Huffman; Ocean Predixion Center, Washington DC``, phone number in
Norfolk; then forecasts for California coast. EiBi shows NMC, USCG
Point Reyes CA at 2230-2305 & 1630-1705; but also on 17314 at
1715-1750, NMN USCG Chesapeake VA. Probably sporadic E opening, as I
was just getting a ham in AZ on 18 MHz band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. John Carver tells us about this week`s WBCQ `AAAWWW` at 0100
UT Sat Mar 20: ``Tonight's AAWWW started on time on 6160 and 7490.
Allan and Angela in the studio. Opening talk about being kids in high
school. Also some talk about still trying to find some more radio
engineers. We also find out that the B in WBCQ stands for Big Balls
Radio according to Allan. More talk about Allan teaching himself to be
an engineer. Then into general radio talk about AM, FM and SW. The
advent of digital radio and the implication of being controlled. Then
into talk of repairing old radios. Allan states that he's not
restoring as many radios as he used to and I don't understand his
reasoning. They've been talking about young people not being
interested in radio anymore and the lack of engineers and Allan states
he's not restoring as many radios so that young people can see what
they look like not being restored.

Angela held out until 0043 before mentioning Trump or politics in
general though she did make a remark early in the show about Covid and
the vaccine. Allan also stated that he believed that a lot of WBCQ
would be able to withstand an EMP pulse but that the superstation
probably wouldn't. Reading of emails at 0055 after Angela flashed
Allan. Cut off in mid email just before 0100 with no closing prayer
and then into dead air. John, Mid-North Indiana`` (via Glenn Hauser,
WOR)

** AFGHANISTAN [non]. 7470, March 19 at 0245, S7 carrier vs S9 storm
crashes, open? No, fades up a bit with some YL talk, ME language. Yes,
VOA Deewa in Pashto is sked at 01-04 via Lampertheim, GERMANY,

My ears perked up at tune-in, since 7470 was the favorite frequency of
Station YHWH, but quickly discounted as not Josiah`s voice. He`s been
AWOL for months, yet still in Aoki as daily 0300-0530! Last report of
that I find was September 10 by Harold Frodge, MI. There were some
other catches in August by Eric Fetters-Walp near Seattle, Aug 31 and
Aug 5, and Rick Barton, AZ on Aug 15. My last log was August 5 at 0231
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, March 19 at 0239, RHC Spanish S9/+10 but big humbuzz.
Something`s always wrong at RHC. Had been starting circa 0300, but DST
probably earlied it to 0200? Iran finishes Arabic at 0230 but then
there`s the Algeria/France hour at 0400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13630 and weaker 13770 distorted spurblobs, March 19 at 1432,
plus & minus ~70 kHz from RHC 13700, with F-natural tone. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15426 approx., March 19 at 1441, extremely distorted spurblob
with music of the RHC ilk, but something NEW here. Yes, can // it to
15140 and 15230. Separation is plus 286 kHz from 15140, and nothing
between them, but also a trace at minus 286 = 14854. Still there at
1501, after 15230 has closed. 15140 itself is slightly distorted.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY. 15300.055V, March 19 at 1439, JBA talk on fluxuating
frequency as I try to measure it, roughly 15300.045-15300.064. Nothing
in Aoki but EiBi has it: 1430-1500, Bible Voice, Canada, in Nuer via
Nauen! to Sudan; also spoken in Ethiopia. Surprised even Nauen has
such an unstable transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUATEMALA. 4055, March 19 at 0610, TGAV is S9 with hymn; 0613
prayer in English to JC, 0615 quoting James V: 1-3, not signing off
yet. Better than last night as noise level lower (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SRI LANKA. 15705, March 19 at 1434, JBA S3-S6 music with flutter,
unusual to hear anything here --- only listee is at 14-15, AWR in
Chinese via transpolar Trinco (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15016-USB, March 19 at 1448, US military coded message with
exaggerated echo and whine, preceded by ``For Retail Price``, copied
fonetikaly: 3QXN7CA7Z2VHULQHIIMBAWIXY5W34D but could not understand
closing weird tactical ID, out (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

WOR 2078 first airings confirmed UT Friday March 19 at 0130 on WRMIs:
5850 VG S9+30 direct; 7780 VG to UTwente S9/+10 but hearing some
skipping not on my original recording. Better than usual direct,
sufficient S9+10. Both also audible way offbeam at Bonaire SDR (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, March 18 at 1839, web address
www.theselectionshop.com -- a new program? NO, proceeds to SMTV stuff.
But that URL goes nowhere, nor variations with x, double-s, or stop.
This WRMI doesn`t inboom off the side here, yet at S9/+10 attains SSOB
status, slightly more than 15140 RHC - there is so little activity on
band to compete (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VENEZUELA. 6205.032v-AM, March 19 at 0040, ROCV is S7-S8 into
Bonaire SDR, with lively tropical music but somewhat distorted -
overmodulated. Back on the air after absence last night (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 4746 & 4784 approx., March 18 at 0118, scratchy spurblobs out
of 4765 R. Progreso still pollute the band, plus/minus ~19v kHz.
Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,, WOR)

** CUBA. 5040, March 18 at 0112, RHC in dead air except for some hum;
something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5040, March 18 at 0601, RHC still in Spanish instead of
English; which is on 6100, but 6060 is off, and 6000 OC at first and
turning off; while 9700 continues S9+20 in English. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13773 S5 & 13626 S7 approx., March 18 at 1359, wide spurblobs
out of RHC 13700-AM; also 2nd-order 13553; with program audio almost
clear along with tone which I have been denoting F# above middle-C,
but not rechecked against keyboard until now when I find it closer to
F-natural (where`s that ♮ symbol?) i.e. closer to 350 than 370 Hz
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUATEMALA. 4055.00, March 18 at 0113, TGAV, R. Verdad, reactivated,
S9 but unreadable vs storm noise; as Dr Madrid answered me last week
he planned to do by March 17. Just after I had closed down last night,
his notice of resumption went out at 0546:

``Le informamos que Radio Verdad Onda Corta YA ESTÁ EN EL AIRE CON 250
WATTS. SEGUIREMOS TRABAJANDO PARA LOGRAR TODA LA POTENCIA DEL
TRANSMISOR. Gracias a Dios y a la ayuda de los Ingenieros Jhaír
Ramírez, quien hizo el trabajo, y Rafael Borthwick, de Canadá, quien
lo dirigió. Éste es el link directo:
https://youtu.be/fij_pMsUAOo
radio verdad tv, Día 171.83, Anuncio RV``

Full power is listed as only 700 watts, but definitely weaker now than
it had been. Recheck at 0600 it`s S9 but still VP vs noise. At 0617:40
I can tell that the lengthy national anthem starts at sign-off (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH [non]. 9605, March 18 at 0111, KBS in Spanish via WHRI
is still here and not on 11880 via VOA Grimesland, where it tested for
a few days a week ago. However, A-21 tentative HFCC no longer shows
9605 but 11880 instead (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ROMANIA. 7325 > // 6130, March 18 at 0122, RRI in English going
from `Society Today` to `Visit Romania` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2077 monitoring: confirmed final
repeat UT Thursday March 18 at 0130 on WRMI 5010, S9+10 vs storm
crashes.

WORLD OF RADIO 2078 should be ready by early UT Friday March 19 for
first airings at 0130 on WRMIs 5850 & 7780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7490.053V, March 18 at 0124, remeasuring WBCQ since it`s
lowered from the 7490.2 maximum area. Slightly wavering making it
difficult to pinpoint (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VENEZUELA. 6205, March 18 at 0216, zero signal from ROCV into TWR
Bonaire KiwiSDR where it`s normally audible even in daytime; now what?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7571, March 18 at 0131, ``bonker`` ute QRM audible on
the plus side of TOMBS via 7570 WRMI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9267, March 18 at 0134, fast CW QRM on the plus side of

** BRAZIL [and non]. 11905-11910-11915, March 17 at 2304, NO DRM
signal at all into Pardinho SP Brasil SDR, rather Japanese, NHK-AM
which was always on before EBC picked 11910 for DRM experiments. Once
DRM reversed angle from N to S there has been diminished interest in
it up here, and may have been gone a while, but also now off or
finished even inside Brasil? Even worse at the Campo SDR, not even NHK
audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 18137-USB, March 17 at 2048, CO8LY Eduardo making quick
contacts with US & Canadians; SOP now for respondent immediately to
review previous contacts as on immediately searchable log. IIRC, used
to hear him a lot on 12 meters. He`s quite the contester. Per QRZ.com
CO8LY Cuba flag Cuba, Eduardo Somoano Cremati, P.O. Box 104, Santiago

18-02 weekdays, 14-23 weekends (Glenn Hauser, OK,, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2077 monitoring: confirmed Wed March 17 at
2100 on WRMI 7780, JBA S2-S5 including noise level.

Also confirmed Wed March 17 at coincidental shifted time 2100:27 on

Also confirmed Wed March 27 at 2300 on WRMI 9955, S9+10/20 above or

** ANTARCTICA. At 1533 UT March 17 I notified the WOR iog:
``[WOR] LRA36 is on --- At 1529 UT, music on 15475.96-RCUSB or so,
LRA36 is back from Antarctica into a Brasil SDR. Regular Wednesday
broadcasts resumed. ID at 1532 for ``15476``. Also German, English,
Glenn, OK``. No replies received, but further from me:

That`s on the Pardinho SP SDR, where there is rather high local noise
level; so I try Campo one: less noise but also weaker signal. 1533
programa de hoy announces Base Esperanza geo coördinates; 1540 seems
to be recounting history of the base or the station; 1542 music; 1546
ID and more music; 1549 ID, music; 1559 something about Venezuela;
1606 ID; 1608 start a song but cuts off the air with no sign-off.
LRA36 had first been reported reactivated on Sat Feb 27, by Rudolf
Grimm, in a long-delayed post via HCDX. Previous pattern was Wed,
often repeated Sat, and sometime specials (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6060, March 17 at 0551, RHC English with pulsing sound
marring modulation here of the thin-voiced YL, who named herself, I
think, Lina? Valverde. It`s impossible to find staff info at RHC
website, except for management. But Lena is correct per various print
bylines searched out. // 6000 & 6100 sound better, but 5040 at 0556 is
in Spanish, not English. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUAM. 11990, Tue March 16 at 2217, S5-S7 gospel huxter in English.
Per Aoki/NDXC, it`s KSDA on days 135 = UT SunTueThu, the other days at
2200-2230 in Sundanese -- as in part of Indonesia, not Sudanese (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 255-MCW kHz, March 17 at 0145 UT, 25-watt ND beacon SW,
as in StillWater, is back! Had been off since February 8 when frigid,
icy weather hit, but long since recovered from that, highs in the 70s.
Now a new storm approaches from the west with high LW noise level and
rising, difficultizing audibility despite proximity. 341 EI Enid is
still off from a later refailure (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 91.7, March 17 at 0305 and still 0400 UT, dead air from
KOSU, but streaming is funxional during `The Spy` --- no loss for me
as KOSU throws away half its airtime at night for Okie music instead
of public radio fare it provides so well in the daytime. Such a split
personality discourages me from otherwise deserved financial support.
I don`t want half of it going to The Spy. They don`t even provide NPR
or BBC news overnight. There is no severe weather excuse for this
outage. At 0413, carrier cuts off less than a minute, back on still
dead, so maybe they are working on it. 0435 suddenly comes to life, no
explanation or apology (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. Overcome by dead air: See USA: WRMI, WWCR

** U S A. 13566+CW, March 17 at 1505, as I am daily checking for K6FRC
on 13565-CW, instead hear another HIFER beacon, first one in a long
time, copied ``WAS`` right away but nothing more readable in next 11
minutes. Fortunately, WAS is the real call in the LWCA list:
``13566.22~ WAS Smithfield, NC FM13 CW (h 2020/12)``
and yes, this WAS slightly above 13566, but no chance to measure it.
Smithfield is just SE of Raleigh, halfway to Goldsboro, 1758 km = 1093
stmi from Enid (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2077 monitoring: WRMI has been
deadairing quite a lot lately, not just TOMBS but affecting us:

Chris Krug in Tulsa reports:
``[WOR] 5850 WRMI WOR Wed 1030 UTC AWOL --- One of the best things
about the time change is being able to listen to WOR on my early
morning walk on Wednesdays on 5850, 1030 utc [5:30 am CDT]. Except
it`s not there this morning. Carrier seems fine, there's just no
programming. Hey WRMI! Wake up! Chris KC5IIE Tulsa, OK``

And also ``From: Richard Lemke, City: St. Albert, Province: Alberta,
Country: Canada. From, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio:
JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees.

Dear Glenn: Looks like I didn’t hear either program at 1000, (AWR Wave
scan) or at 1030, when World of Radio usually should be aired
[4:30 am MDT], just a strong signal but no audio was heard. March 17
UTC 2021, (Lemke, Richard -AB) 73’s, Richard March 17, 2021``. Next:

2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW [ex-2200]
2200 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE [ex-2300]

** U S A. 9455, March 16 at 2226, dead air from this WRMI-5, supposed
to be Overcomer from 11 to 24.

7570 & 7730, March 17 at 0237, still 0256, 0321, both S9+40 of dead
air from these WRMIs 11 & 13, which happen to be the only two
scheduled for TOMBS at 02-03, so nothing to compare as other US
stations are otherprogramming too. No WWCRs are scheduled with TOM
until 0400 at the earliest, 3215 which has horrible squealing. Ha! At
0407, dead air there too except for the squealing ruling! So the
problem is somewhere between SC, International Vacuum and
affiliates.

BTW, as of March 17, WWCR program sked is still dated March 1 showing
6-hour difference between UT and CT, so beware and consult with care.

After 0300 these WRMIs are supposed to add on: 7780, 9395 and 5850. At
0326, 5850 is dead air too; so are 7780 and 9395 into Maine SDR. If
it`s a feed failure faulty from Walterboro, we certainly hope BS is
still getting billed for transmission, a fine compromise between
income and detestable programming. 0436 recheck, born again on the
WRMIs, still dead on WWCR 3215 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1030, March 17 at 0152 UT, Mexican music, and soon SHVAs
plugging the two FM translator frequencies, 99.1 and 97.3, of WNOW
Mint Hill [Charlotte] NC, 9.4 kW daytimer direxional west. Before and
since I first discovered it March 10, many others have reported it.
Slogan ``La Zeta`` I still haven`t copied for sure in the exaggerated
SHVA intonation, but no doubt this be it. BTW, what positive
connotation has Zeta in Spanish; the end, or the ultimate? Altho not
so in the original Greek, rather Omega (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1540.2, March 17 at 0143 UT, no het against 1540.0 stations,
so WKVQ Eatonton GA finally fixed, or at least daytimer off? I believe
it was still there last night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 2011 UT March 17
