Glenn Hauser logs November 4-5, 2021 |
|
Friday, November 05 2021
** CANADA. 248-MCW kHz, Nov 5 at 0611, ND beacon dash and WG, 1000 watts from Winnipeg MB. In much degraded auroral propagation from the north I was wondering if any Canadian would arrive, and only this one does (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** OKLAHOMA. RF 18, KOPX-TV OKC, Nov 5 at 1520 UT, checking out the other 6 subchannels besides recently discovered Newsy on 62-7: 62-1, ION 62-2, Bounce 62-3, CourtTV 62-4, Grit 62-5, Defy TV 62-6, TruReal Defy TV? Yet another new ``network`` never heard of before. Per website its flagship shows are ilk of American Pickers, Duck Dynasty, Pawn Stars. Pass! True Real? Ditto: Married at First Sight, Wahlburgers, Escaping Polygamy, Hoarders. Pass2! Is there really a market for all these lobrow reruns on obscure subchannels? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** THAILAND. 11660, Nov 5 at 1457, music marred by heavy Doppler flutter, beyond Cuba and non, strongest signal on band, off by 1500 recheck. VOA Chinese via Udorn scheduled, so could be jammer instead, but only one signal heard. After severe geomag storm, many other JBA signals also have Doppler flutter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 257-MCW kHz, Nov 5 at 0609 UT, ND beacon JYR, which is 25 watts from York, Nebraska. 293-MCW kHz, Nov 5 at 0610 UT, ND beacon FBY, 25 watts from Fairbury NE. So common I don`t always log it. Not many are making it now in geomag storm, and only one from CANADA, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 10000, Nov 5 at 1504, WWV in a special announcement during the minute reserved for such, about something at :48, refers to www.hamsci.org/wwv Before 1700 I`m trying for a good WWV signal via Maryland remote; altho 10000 is S9 with tix clearly audible, the voice announcements come thru JBA, very strange. Before 1704 I switch to direct reception on 10000, and partially copy the announcement by roboyl: Starting Nov 15 there will be tests on WWV on the hour [?? not clear the time!] and WWVH at :48 for HamSci and NIST, consisting of tones, chirps, noise bursts, for several weeks; see website [as above] where we find this: ``WWV/H Scientific Modulation --- Welcome to the WWV/H Scientific Modulation Working Group page! For more information about scientific modulation on WWV, email hamsci@case.edu HamSCI's WWV/H Scientific Modulation Working Group is exploring possibilities for additions to WWV and WWVH's modulation that can be used for science purposes. Current status: a characterization signal has been designed for test broadcasts on WWV and WWVH. View it here: DOI TAPR DCC Presentation, 18 September 2021: WW0WWV has written an excellent report on the TAPR presentation, which you can read here: WWV/WWVH Scientific Modulation Working Group | WWVARC`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2110 monitoring: confirmed UT Thu Nov 4 at 0030 on WRMIs: 9395 S9+10 and 9455 S9 but 9395 is much louder. Also confirmed final repeat UT Thu Nov 4 at 0140 the 0130 on WRMI 5010, S9/+10 but noisy. From next week all three should be at 0130. BTW, no more logs made UT Nov 4 during severe geomag storming, K-index hitting 8 as Rodney Johnson points out, and Spaceweather says auroras were visible into NM which means also to northern OK. Contributions via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com One may also contribute by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702. WOR 2111 confirmed first broadcasts, UT Friday November 5 at 0130 on WRMIs: 7780, S7-S9 into UTwente but at 0144 S9-S5 direct; 5850 VG direct, at 0144 S9+10/20. Also confirmed UT Fri Nov 5 at 0330 on WRMI 5985, but JBA at North and Latin American remotes during degraded propagation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9330, Nov 5 at 1502 and 1505, no signal from WLCR on WBCQ; another breakdown? Surely would be detectable despite storm; WRMIs with southern advantage are VG. 1648 recheck, now it`s on with a continuous tone test, S9+10 into Maryland SDR; carrier offset only 0.3 to 0.5 Hz. By 1719 resumed abnormal programming about the Earth being covered by a dome, which is in scripture, they say (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 680, Nov 5 at 0613 UT, talk show with echo from two different stations; closest normally is KFEQ St Joseph MO; must be `Red Eye Radio` as also // but not synch on 700, 760, 820, 890. Per NRC AM Log, the only other RER on 680 is 50 kW WPTF Raleigh NC, major night lobe to the south, nullish thisaway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 830, Nov 5 at 0615 UT, WCCO now with `Jim Bohannon` show about 2 seconds ahead of // 720 WGN; after 0500 of course it`s a replay but he keeps uttering phone-in numbers. In Standard Time, live runs will be 0307-0559 UT Tue-Sat (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Oceanic JBA MW carrier search, Nov 5 at 0601 UT: at this hour, I usually start with 846, presumed Kiritimati, and it is there now, but the only other 9-kHz are 621 and 711, surely Canary Islands and Morocco, all lower-latitude paths as higher signals from Europe are blocked by severe geomag storm (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1370.47V approx., Nov 5 at 0621 UT, wavering het to 1370.00 pileup. Nothing listed anywhere so far off at mwoffsets (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1725 UT November 5

Thursday, November 04 2021
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, Nov 3 at 1531 tune-in via Brasil SDR, LRA36 is on this Wednesday S5-S6, but signing-off, ``todo por hoy`` until next miércoles, then complete Antártida song about Base Esperanza et al. Of course, 1535 continues immediately with more rock music until really chopped off air at 1550*, including the reduced carrier. The playbacks on Saturdays have been absent a few weeks, but you never know without checking (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 6230, Nov 3 at 0557, RHC English JBA on leapfrog mixing product of 6100 over 6165 another 65 kHz beyond. 6165 is S9+30, 6100 S9+20/30. 6060 also on with humbuzz at S9+30, but no `frog audible on 6140, nor any other combos. 6000 still on at S9+40. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 6030, Nov 3 at 0600, just caught R. Martí before quitting on extended schedule, temporarily? They also did this last year. Heavy jamming of course continues, just in case, blocking any CFVP (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 7157 & 7215, Nov 3 at 0602, centres of lite pulse jamming still going after weeks. The incompetent DentroCuban Jamming Command apparently once found some objexionable exile hams there and remains unrelenting, as if hams could not QSY anywhere. What would CO2KK say? Isn`t IARU raising a ruckus about this? Now also PJ against nothing on 7335, 7365, 7435; and 7355 strongest mixed with a tone, all R. Martí frequencies used only at earlier hours (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13638 & 13762, Nov 3 at 1453, weak spurblobs out of RHC 13700 which is S9+10 undermodulated and with F# tone, plus and minus ~62 kHz. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 1513 recheck, all gone (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** FRANCE. 17795-17800-17805 DRM, Nov 3 at 1712, TDF with marine weather for MiniTransAt yacht race, S9 via Maryland SDR, mostly solid, but lo-fi at usual 8.08 kbps, SNR 20, DRM mode B, Chan 10 kHz displayed, humale voice in French, 1713 switch to huwoman voice in French-accented English, 1728 back to male in French but mixes in some numbers in English; 1732 YL in French but also some English numbers; not weather now but ordinally up to 50th, presumably race rankings. 1741 seems to be concluding bilingually; 1742 little bits of music, amid dropouts, a different tune fragment each time, now down to S8-S7, SNR to 15. 1750 quits modulating but still on air at S6, off by 1758 check. This 17-18 transmission on 17800 is on the displayed DRM schedule roster under Télédiffusion de France. But beware, still also shows Radio Martí on 7345 DRM despite its disappearance months ago. Chris Mackerell, NZ, asks, ``Were you able to decode the data part of the transmission? Previously the DRMcast contained a data stream of images and weather maps in the same stream as the audio. The audio was always decodable, but the pictures weren't. I haven't been able to check myself yet, so am curious. Maybe they're just audio this time. 73 Chris`` Neither then nor today was I aware of any images. Maybe I don`t know where to look for them beyond the conventional Kiwi DRM display. Glenn (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN [and non]. 11670, Nov 3 at 2310, only RHC Spanish to be heard, // 9535 music. If REE be on there, it`s totally covered; and no signal on alt. 11685 during token English semihour Wed, VG on 9690, VP on 11940 & 12030. All checked via Maryland remote (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. Wednesday, November 03 2021
** BRAZIL [and non]. 6150, Nov 2 at 2224, discussion of racketeering, poor signal, sounds like BBC English, indeed this hour only via USAGM Tinang, PHILIPPINES. No other signal now.
I`m looking for the brand new Brazilian SW station, imagine that! which Bryan Clark in NZ discovered, heard since Oct 31, peaking 0630-0900, ID with help of Brazilian DXers as Rádio Saturno in Belo Horizonte, 92.3 and 6150, and QSLed already. Apparently not on MW. Searching, I find several Youtube clips of it dating back to July 14, 2021! How did this escape the notice of the broader DX world? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTOebO9s3GU Bryan estimates power only around 1 kW. And maybe it`s not on air in the evenings, as seems to be the case now. Other 6150s to avoid during night hours: Romania Spanish at 03-04; VOA Thailand in Burmese at 2330-0030. Germany, S Korea start at 0700 but more or less limited to the dayside (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA. 7325, Nov 2 at 1447, weak algo with het from 7326. CRI in Filipino is scheduled this semi-hour per Aoki; per HFCC a double entry on 7325: 500 kW, 165 degrees from Beijing site, and 100 kW, 130 degrees from Nanning site. Also in HFCC only, a reservation for some ``JIC MIC`` clandestine, 14-17, 300 kW, 290 degrees from Yamata (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA [and non]. 9620, Nov 2 at 2218, CCI in Chinese and more Chinese adding up to S7-S8; this hour has CNR1 jamming and VOA via Tinang, PHILIPPINES (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 7355, Nov 2 at 0623, noise jamming with a whine/carrier about 7355.37. No sign of R Martí now, but which has extended to 0600* ex -0400* on SW. Maybe will be -0700* after DST? 7435, Nov 2 at 0625, pulse jamming against nothing, as R Martí is scheduled here 2300-0400 only. This PJ consists of approx. 30 rapid pulses, a pause and then approx. 40 of them, alternating (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13820, Nov 2 at 2206, pulse jamming against nothing since OCB finishes at 2000. At least this is evidence the DCJC knows RM be here sometime, unless a relic of B-20 season. Also weaker jamming still audible on 13605, the A-21 channel. RM 13820 so strong here when on that I cannot detect jamming. Equally super during the 22 UT hour now are 9565, 7375 and 7355 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11950, Nov 2 at 2215, RHC is S9-S3 but undermodulated during the `Mesa Redonda` TV soundtrack alternate Spanish; // 6000 at 2226 is S9+25/15 and even worse, just barely modulated. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GALAPAGOS ISLANDS. 18150-USB, Nov 2 at 2200, HD8R uttering this call every few seconds, alternating with AB8F apparently trying to contact him. I hear both well, but they can`t hear each other? Then HD8R adds ``up 5`` meaning he is listening only on 18155-USB. His accent is so heavy I had a hard time understanding his fonetix. No details at QRZ.com beyond this: ``HD8R Galapagos Islands flag Galapagos Islands Dxfriends Dxpedition San Cristobal Galapagos Islands Ecuador QSL: EA5RM Page managed by EA5RM Lookups: 157850`` but linx to http://www.dxfriends.com which leads to: http://www.dxfriends.com/hd8r/ headed ``CUADRILLA DE TIFARITI - GALAPAGOS 2021 HD8R`` with a camel? mascot which are not among the Galápagos fauna; but the Friends started out with Western Sahara a sesquidecade ago; now a 14-member team consisting of 6 from Spain, 4 from France, 1 from Ecuador, 1 from Colombia, and 2 from Italy. ``We´ll be active from October 26th to November 7th, from 6 to 160 meters (including Warc bands) on CW, SSB and Digi modes with at least 4 stations on the air at the same time. HD8R grid locator is: EI59gc`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUAM. 15215, Nov 2 at 2204, SE Asian song, S8-S4, something new here. Aoki shows it`s KSDA daily in Vietnamese hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** JAPAN [and non]. 11815, Nov 2 at 1404, NHK dominant over TRT making SAH, adding up to S7. By 1439 Turkish music dominates, still SAH from NHK. They overlap at 14-15, but don`t care about the collision here, target for neither. Hope they each have no problem with the other in their own targets: 235 degrees from Yamata; 310 degrees from TRT for W Europe, but we are directly beyond (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KASHMIR [non]. 15170, Nov 2 at 1612, Kashmir Civitas weekly Tuesday clandestine via IRRS ROMANIA, S7-S9 into UTwente, now one hour later at 1600 due to standard time in Europe, not Kashmir --- and it`s almost all in English. YL with American accent interviews OM with S Asian accent, but she apparently also has SAs roots. First about his background as a musician and documentary film-maker, and I wonder if this is really about Kashmir, but then mentioning India and Pakistan; 1625 she invites him to say something in Kashmiri -- not Urdu, and he does, alternating with English. 1626 brief transmitter break as they are upwrapping, ``fight against India for freedom``, 1628 concluding with their names, totally unreadable, chopped off at 1629* with no RRI IS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SAO TOME E PRINCIPE. 9560.044, Nov 2 at 0620, S3-S5 talk in African-accented English. This hour is VOA relay from Pinheira, typically off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 11670, Nov 2 at 2210, REE is JBA but // VG 9690, also 12030 and distorted 11940 -- NOT on 11685. This is strange, since Wolfgang Bueschel has been reporting 11685, not 11670, since B-21 began, including earlier today with a silly ballgame. Is REE indecisive about which African frequency to use, even during a single day`s span? Something`s always nonsensical at Noblejas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2110 monitoring; next: 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW, 9455 to WNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. ** CANADA. 269-MCW kHz, Nov 1 at 0650 UT, ND beacon dash and UDE, 50 watts from Delta, Manitoba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA [and non]. 9665, re heavy ACI to WOR on Ch 292, Germany, 9670 at 1330: New HFCC shows CRI Russian at 1300-1400 is 500 kW, 292 degrees from Xi`an site, not East Turkistan = land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs and other Moslems. 292 is listed as 25 kW available 24 hours, non-direxional (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** FRANCE. 17800.095V, Nov 1 at 1501, MiniTransAt yacht race marine weather in French, météo, after a bit of music, S9. Carrier is audibly and visibly wobbling, plus/minus at least 7 Hz, centred more or less here but difficult to pinpoint. I wonder if clients get a discount for a defective Issoudun transmitter or even know about it. Others continue reporting the DRM version at 1700 on 17795-17805. Chris Mackerell, NZ, says, ``If they use the "DRMcast" stuff again you won't be able to decode it without borrowing one of the special "suitcase" receiver/decoders from one of the yachts. Cheers, Chris``. Well, I had no problem decoding it with an ordinary KiwiSDR. And Hansjoerg Biener, Germany, says, ``On earlier occasions, DXers were told that neither TDF nor organizers of the race were interested in reception reports from outside`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN [and non]. 11670, Nov 1 at 2303, collision of two weak stations; has REE stayed here instead of 11685 which is HFCC registered, also in Aoki for B-21 until 2400, ex-2300; but no signal for Africa on 11685? The other of course is RHC still starting at 2300, which had only a small overlap with REE. I do not get an REE // confirmation now, so could be CNR2 as logged Oct 22, tho not scheduled now. REE anyhow is VG anyhow for M/W/F English to us on 9690, // 11940 SAm and 12030 ME (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TIBET [non]. 12125, Nov 1 at 1513, something new on previously vacant frequency, Chinese? and music mixing, S9-S7. New HFCC B-21 shows USAGM via TINIAN at 1500-1600, 250 kW, 296 degrees in BOD dialect of Tibetan. WRTH shows RFA also on 12125 back in B-20; now the ChiCom jammer is already back on it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11815.009, Nov 1 at 1508, something new here for B-21; certainly not Brasil or Japan; interview in language S9/+10 with some intonation similar to French? but not. Of course, it`s Türkish from TRT back here for the season, 1400-1700, 250 kW, 310 degrees USward from Emirler, where something`s always erroneous, slightly off-frequency. Japan had finished 11815 at 1500 but now also listed for 1500-1700, no sign of that now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Nov 1 at 2301, VOT English to N America confirmed here on B-21 sked, S9+20 but noisy, ex-2200 on 9830. As I tune in, warning that the 22-23 and 03-04 [sic] broadcasts were recorded earlier, out of date info and probably also uttered entire out-of-date A21 English sked. Something`s always awry at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 6125, Nov 2 at *0358, VOT carrier finally cuts on, S9/+10 into Maryland SDR, but no mod, no IS or IDs. Trouble keeping it on air, never any mod applied, just as well: -0400*, *0403.5-0404*, *0405; *0407.5* split second off-and-on, then stays, just-barely-modulated toward end of English newscast, something about vaccines. It`s ``normal`` listening level if I turn the Kiwi and my own volume to max. Something`s almost erroneous at Emirler. I had wanted to hear whether the opening schedule were totally wrong A-21, as suspected but missed heading previous repeat at 2300 on 5960. Anyhow, now confirmed on new B-21 final repeat at latened winter time and lowered winter frequency, ex-0300 on 7275. Now the // is 7285 toward ME and JBA here S5-S9. 0411-0413 `Review of Turkish Press` about Turkish involvement in some Romeeeting, music. Now it`s back to webcasts from my two favorite New Mexico stations` other/global music (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 299-MCW kHz, Nov 1 at 0649 UT, ND beacon HW, which is 25 watts from Wilmington / Kuebler, Ohio. I was tuned to 297-USB. Nothing listed on 297 itself (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7489.9v, Nov 1 at 2302, secret replay of semi-`UBMP` on WBCQ, good S9+20/30. Less need to resort to webcast, especially since UB`s shows remain deliberately monophonic even there. 2330 chop to ID, few notes of `Camp Constitution Radio`` theme/jingle, and NO spot commercial this time, right into show. From next week of course, to pretend to be at the ``same`` time by local clox, *real* Universal times will be one hour later, i.e. original at 23-24 Sundays, semi-repeat at 0000-0030 UT Tuesdays (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0441 UT November 2
