Glenn Hauser logs April 9-10, 2023 |

Tuesday, April 11 2023
** ALGERIA. 9455, April 10 at 0549, rock music at S9+10/20, WRMI reactivated #5? 5050 Legends already off. But 9455 at 0551 in Arabic. SMTV? sked at 0500-0700. Recheck 0559 for ID, it`s off already. Not in HFCC, but Aoki shows Algeria Qur`an service via Béchar site at 0300-0600. If WRMI reactivate, this will present a problem (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** AUSTRALIA. 28266 CW, April 10 at 2225, dash DE VK4RST, and a quick scan does not find any other 10m beacons. This is more like it, WI5V: ``28.266 VK4RST C SAINT GEORGE, AUSTRALIA 5W, VERTICAL New 1 December 2017 (SWL David Vitek)`` -- presumably Qsld -- I don`t know about VK-land, but US call areas are meaningless as hams move around and retain old calls. Yes, per QRZ.com but it has no humaname! ``VK4RST Australia flag Australia, 10m Propagation Beacon, 28.266 Mhz, St George QLD 4487, Australia, QSL: Vk4pr. VK4RST is a 10m propagation beacon in grid QG41hw St George, Southwest Queensland, approximately 550 km due west of Brisbane. The beacon`s power is 10 watts into a 1/2 wave vertical antenna 15m agl and 200m asl. Reports would be appreciated via vk4rst@gmail.com `` But VK4PR is: ``VK4PR Australia flag Australia, Peter "Mutchy" Mutch, 74 Grey St, St George QLD 4487, Australia`` I have sent him a report (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 6000, April 10 at 0546, RHC English VG, only frequency still on, except for harmonic 12000, S7 at 0555. Longtime // 6165 seems gone for good: At 0256, it`s the TRT IS instead prior to its English not for us but Asia, and its higher pitch chirps tinkle ACI against WBCQ dead air on 6160-. Previously 9700 seemed to be RHC`s replacement but that`s not on at 0300 either (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11670, April 10 at 1515, RHC Spanish is S9+5/10, maybe atop Spain? which starts at 1500 weekdays. This RHC frequency of course is normally tarde-only. Mistake for 11760? That and 15140 are both AWOL, nominally the only midday channels. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, April 10 at 0614, JJBBA carrier from R. Kiribati, and no other 9/kHz splits below 1220. I caught another airing of the documentary on PBS -- certainly fleshes out a country beyond our JBA carriers! Shows considerable sympathy for its sea-level-rise situation, but nothing very substantial to compensate; Pres. Anote turned over to a successor who in a PS was said to be dismantling his climate policies! Possible solutions: floating countries or undersea ``skyscrapers``. Meanwhile one woman migrated with difficulty to NZ, and government was seeking to buy enough land on a Fiji island to relocate the 100K citizens. Did anything come of that? but would risk diluting Kiribati Kulture (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KURDISTAN [non]. 17470 & 17480, April 10 at 1513, two signals around here again imply Dengê Welat and ``Radio Recep`` jammer are failing to coincide, so why bother? 17480 is stroonger with S5/S8 talk. April 9 Aoki presents as if there be an exact frequency rotation oddball sked for DW, while jammer stay on 17480: 17450 1040-1155 UZB Radyo Denge Welat Kur Tashkent 1-7 17455 1750-1910 UZB Radyo Denge Welat Kur Tashkent 1-7 17460 0330-1040 UZB Radyo Denge Welat Kur Tashkent 1-7 17460 1510-1610 UZB Radyo Denge Welat Kur Tashkent 1-7 17470 0430-0630 UZB Radyo Denge Welat Kur Tashkent 1-7 17470 1910-2025 UZB Radyo Denge Welat Kur Tashkent 1-7 17475 2136-2200 UZB Radyo Denge Welat Kur Tashkent 1-7 17480 1610-1750 UZB Radyo Denge Welat Kur Tashkent 1-7 17480 2025-2136 UZB Radyo Denge Welat Kur Tashkent 1-7 17480 0400-2200 TUR TRT Recep. Also leaving in the few extraneous entries in same range, EiBi rather differs as of Apr 6: 17450 0600-1900 CLA Dengê Welat KU ME /UZB 17453 0700-0710 Tu,Fr RUS E07 Russian Spy # E RUS m 17455 0600-1900 CLA Dengê Welat KU ME /UZB 17460 0600-1900 CLA Dengê Welat KU ME /UZB 17460 0600-1900 TUR Turkish Jammer TU ME e 17470 0600-1900 CLA Dengê Welat KU ME /UZB 17470 0600-0610 Th RUS E06 Russian Spy # E RUS xx 17480 0600-1900 CLA Dengê Welat KU ME /UZB 17480 2154-2250 246 CUB Cuban Spy Numbers S Am b 17480 0600-1900 TUR Turkish Jammer TU ME e (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NEW ZEALAND. 6224 USB, April 10 at 0545, JBA marine weather sounds like NZ style with coastal names. Yes: EiBi shows ZLM, Taupo Maritime Radio, never specified as SSB, with numerous 32-minute broadcasts starting at :03 or :33 past hours, including 0533. Note that this is circa local sundown. Should be much better for next emission at 0803 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NIGERIA. 7255-, April 10 at 0619, tune-in VON just in time, dead air or maybe JBM until cutoff at 0619.8* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6915 USB, April 10 at 0001, rock music S9/+10. 0007 ``What condition my condition was in``; interspersed with W&M voice dialogs, 0007 about paying for transmitter; new sponsor: LifeAlert, faux commercial ``I`ve fallen and can`t get up``, vs autophone reply, your waiting time is: 4 hours, etc. Haha. ``You are listening to Crapola Radio, shortwave pirate, all free, all the time. 0012 music. 0014 ``Brain Brothers shortwave radio net``, more faux ads. Off at 0027* already. Tnx to advance tip of upcoming broadcast on the WOR iog. Pse QSL? Many more reports here with more details: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,112496.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ROMANIA. 13645-13650-13655, April 9 at 2153, DRM noise. It`s RRI Tsiganeshti this hour in Spanish. Before 2100 from 2030, English to NAm on same is not DRM (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17855, VG Monday April 10 at 2207, token English from SNR feature is interviewing some novelist, not of interest, even tho TURKEY is off, no competition (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 6165: see CUBA [and non]; jammer: see KURDISTAN [non]. 11785, April 10 at 2200 and later chex, no signal direct from VOT English, ceding the semihour to SPAIN but of no interest. 11785 not on either at 2310 check into UTwente, no extra German. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2185 monitoring: Also confirmed Sunday April 9 at 2000 UT on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9+10/20 into nearby Noale SDR, with only lite CCI presumably Smooth Radio, Brighton, England. Listened to 2015 to confirm we were not cut off after 10 minutes this week, and hope the remaining 14 minutes also aired. Preceding music show until 2000 is on the NEXUS-IBA sked as `16 Gwendoline Street`. What does that signify? Googling leads to some real addresses in NZ, Australia. Also confirmed UT Monday April 10 at 0038 the 0030 on WRMI 7780, JBA S7 direct and noisy. Not confirmed UT Monday April 10 at 0300 on WBCQ Area 51, 6160 -67 Hz = 6159.933, S9/+5 into Maryland SDR which is DEAD AIR from 0256 tune-in until 0340! Something`s messed up at Monticello. However, WOR does start at 0306 on A51 webcast only. Next: 0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035 USB [low power] 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated; by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1150 kHz, April 10 at 0600 UT, no sign of DX test from KSEN Shelby MT, as delayed oopsie 24 hours; another no show? I`m listening on DX-398 nulling KSAL as much as possible. At 0605 some tinkling bells which could have been an else liner. But 0610 I finally copy JBA Morse code as VVV VVV VVV DE KSEN, and repeated several times. First few minutes might have been talk indistinguishable from the QRM. So that`s it: no need to listen another bihour. Besides, I already QSLed it on November 8, 2020: https://www.w4uvh.net/KSEN1150DXghQSL.pdf (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Surprised and pleased to receive on April 10, 2023, an eQSL letter for DX tests almost a year ago, and tnx also to arranger Harry Dence for the reminder: ``"QSL" VERIFICATION --- Glenn . . . ** ANTARCTICA. 15476 RCUSB, LRA36, poor into Arg SDR at 2206 April 8, another Saturday broadcast, getting to be routine. But off by next check 2240. Did anyone hear it earlier, or later? Probably started circa 2100. One reply on the WOR iog:
``I heard it at 2238, quality signal varied a lot, from strong to weak in few minutes. Here is a 5 minute recording using Argentine Kiwi-SDR: https://app.box.com/s/chscd02zugmk04eoboucs43eq1e13vge Marcos Cox, Chile`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 346 MCW kHz, April 9 at 0708 UT, dash and YXL, 500 watt ND beacon at Sioux Lookout, Ontario. A regular but less and less heard vs storm noise level. Really wish I could hear some `new` ones (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** COLOMBIA. 6010, April 9 at 0645, LV de tu Conciencia, S7/S9. Earlier I requested eQSL for my April 8 reception: ``Hi Rafael, Would appreciate an eQSL for LV de tu Conciencia, which I logged for certain last night, direct on my R75 with 30m E/W longwire: 6010, April 8 at 0615, song at S7/S9, title or refrain, ``por qué``. 0620 announcement by OM and then YL with ID ``La Voz de tu Conciencia`` as we have been assuming. Next song with yelling, ``El 19 de marzo...``, SINPO 25342. May we expect Alcaraván to resume too on 5910? Either continuing past Easter? Thanks, Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, USA`` Promptly a reply: ``Greetings, after more than 5 years off the air, the signals at 1.530 kHz-HKV82 and 6.010 kHz-HJDH have been put into operation again, both teams are still making adjustments to improve their signals. Work is also underway to make a new local production, and link via internet with the studios in Bogotá for live programs, this in the medium term. Likewise, work is being done to put the signal on the air at 5910 kHz in the short or medium term. I send you the eQSL and Pennant from the station, you can print them to be part of your collection. dxdesdecolombia.blogspot.com/ https://www.youtube.com/@DXdesdeColombia/video Thanks, Rafael Rodríguez R. Still announced as 0800 on 6100, initiating a real broadcast at 1500 Sunday April 9 on S9 11760 and JBA 15140 instead of 1600 on 11760 only as the Esperantists remain clueless about their own true schedule. Unusual propagation now: NAm & Cuban sigs above 13 MHz much attenuated, such as JBA carriers on WWCR 15825, 13845; but 9980 still blasting, 12160 only S8/S9. Some further signals still making it on 15 & 17 MHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KURDISTAN [non]. 17470 & 17480, April 9 at 1508, JBA carriers from Dengê Welat & Recep the Turkish Jammer, or vice versa, failing to collide. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauer, OK, WOR) ** PERU. 4820, April 9 circa 0645, no signal from R. Senda Cristiana; Ron Howard was not hearing it too at 0739, 0759, 0818. On April 8 he got a reply from them: ``Hi Glenn, The following is an email from Brad Shaw, of Radio Senda Cristiana. His info is at https://quechuamissions.com/about I have replied to his email with a number of questions I have about the station. Will have to wait to see if he responds. "Thank you for your kind words. Great to know you were able to hear us. It must be working well. We are broadcasting with 1k watts, but we are thinking of only 4-10pm [2100-0300 UT] and 4-8am [0900-1300 UT] Peru time for the next year or so. Brad Shaw, Peru" -- Ron, California`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785.023, April 8 at 2220, VOT is S9+45 into UTwente, going from `Gripping Piles` to `Turkey`s Geomarked Products` - both exact titles uncertain. Something`s always awry at Ankara. 2224 a different OM voice than usual with `Weekly Analysis` about fake yogurt made with buffalo milk (?). Somewhat overmodulated/distorted. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. From 2230 mostly music. 2254 s/off; 2255* after IS played only twice. BTW we recently ran across an off-air recording made years ago of their previous IS which was on piano with variations: nostalgia (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 347 MCW kHz, April 9 at 0709 UT, AFK, 25-watt NDB at Nebraska City NE, JBA next to stronger YXL 346 Canada. 251 MCW kHz, April 9 at 0711 UT, AM, 100-watt NDB at Amarillo TX; not often heard among few Texans despite neighborliness (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2185 monitoring: confirmed Saturday April 8 at 1930 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+18 into nearby SDR, about 13 minutes into so started early circa 1917. Also confirmed Saturday April 8 at 2239 the 2230 on WRMI 5850, S9+5/10 into Missouri SDR; and WRMI 15770, VG S9+30/42 into Maine SDR, and at 2257 also holding up at S9/+15 into UTwente where it`s targeted. Also confirmed UT Sunday April 9 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S8/9+10 but noisy into Missouri SDR; S9+10/15 into Louisiana SDR. Also confirmed UT Sunday April 9 at 0326 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+20 into nearby SDR, about 4 minutes into so started circa 0322. Next: 2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW 0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW 0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035 USB [low power] 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated; by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9455, April 9 circa 1500 and many other random chex, no signal from WRMI-5 supposedly scheduled 24 hours per transmission grid still dated March 12 for B-22. Also, I have just noticed that both WRMI-1 and WRMI-2 are shown as on 7730, zero hours per day, at 44 and 160 degree azimuths respectively. Yet 7730 remains for many blox on the program/system skeds below. We never hear it nor have we for at least 6 months. There are also lots of other blank hours on the grid; at 16-21 UT only 4 frequencies in use of the remaining transmitters: 17790, 15770, 9455, 9395 - make that three! BTW, this weekend Jeff & Thaïs White were to be visiting NSW and a DX meeting to welcome them was organised (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1150 kHz, April 9 at 0601 UT another DX test from KSEN, Shelby MT is scheduled to start. On the DX-398 with due north KSAL nulled as much as possible, I briefly think I hear some sweep tones, but must have been spurious sounds, wishful as absolutely nothing in the nature of a DX test perceived until 0620 and another check around 0640; mainly two stations echoing with C2CAM. No one else heard it either. Paul Walker then informed us: ``A little oopsie with the KSEN test --- There was a bit of a mistake. KSEN programming staff accidentally scheduled the test for Monday morning at 1201 [0601 UT April 10]. KSEN has been lowered to proper night power and the test will run as scheduled just a day late`` causing a lot of lost sleep, not including me (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7890, April 9 at 0704, JBA carrier, no doubt 2 x 3945 which R. Vanuatu has reactivated. Probably starts 0700 after 7260. 11835, April 9 at 0705, S9/+10 of W&M conversing in Bislama, ``b`long`` the keyword, as R. Vanuatu is back on 3 x 3945. One of my best signals yet from this. Glad to have them again. The question remains: are these harmonix really accidental? And why don`t they occur when same? transmitter is on 5040, 7260. Marshall Reel, near Washington DC, says 11835 cut off suddenly at 0859* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 7480.07, April 9 at 0650, S6/S8 dead air. No broadcaster listed; ute, or possibly warmup channel only for a nearby frequency, like VOA does (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 7647.4 USB, April 9 at 0648, 2-way in Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1953 UT April 9 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** COLOMBIA. 6010, April 8 at 0615, song at S7/S9, title or refrain, ``por qué``. 0620 announcement by OM and then YL with ID ``La Voz de tu Conciencia`` as we have been assuming. Next song with yelling, ``El 19 de marzo...``, SINPO 25342. Ron Howard was simulistening:
``6010, LV de tu Conciencia, 0615-0645 UT, on April 8. Playing mostly non-stop LA songs and several instrumental selections; pleased to hear a definite, but faint ID; stronger reception today, probably a reflection of the adjustments still being made to the transmitter. My audio at https://app.box.com/s/v0fsnz3fia4vn32mn47p9tpiv74pcpsv Ron California`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 11760, April 8 at 0623, RHC English, S9 with commentary. This time no // 9700, just German from Romania. All 6`s are off. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846, April 8 at 0632, no carrier detected from R. Kiribati. Saul Broudy replies to my previous about the TV documentary: ``Pacific Heartbeat --- Anote's Ark #901>>> If you go to the PBS app (public TV in USA) or to https://www.pbs.org/search/ and search for "Kiribati", you'll find this program video, as well as Anote Tong's appearance on the Christiane Amanpour show and other relevant links. -- 73, Saul Broudy (W3WHK) Philadelphia, PA USA`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KURDISTAN [non]. 17460, April 8 at 1539 talk at S3/S5 with flutter, no QRM; and 17470 JBA carrier, so evidently Dengê Welat and Recep`s Turkish jammer again failing to collide. Is no one paying attention? Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 7320, April 8 at 0611, rock song with heavy disco beat, YL singer, not sure of language, S9 from R. Vostochnaya Zvezda, pirate in SW USA, quite regular now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 15540, April 8 at 1532, mixture on & off of voices, one sportstalk found // 1390 KCRC strong local, and not its // sibling 1640 KZLS which is not synchronized but a couple seconds delayed. Usually these things are explained as external? mixing with a strong real SW signal displaced 1390 kHz, but that does not compute now: 16930 or 14150 -- unless maybe a local ham on the latter, neither checked at first before calculations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PERU. 4810 open carrier stronger than 4820 carrier, April 8 at 0626, S6 vs CODAR pulse peaking S9 on 4810, i.e. Logos, Chazuta. 4820 then seems to cut off and on with a warble. Evidently new Senda Cristiana is having problems. Other reports on the WOR iog: ``Hi Marcos, April 8, at 0752 UT and re-checking at 0835, found 4820 silent. No Perú! But later at 0936, heard a decent level open carrier with no audio. Still working on the transmitter? Ron California`` ``Hi Ron, Their transmitter was on when I heard them around 01-02 UT, but they were silent, hopefully they are on the air with something today. Marcos C [Chile?]`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SAO TOME. 4960, Sat April 8 at 0631, carrier on & off. That fits VOA`s sked per EiBi: 0530-0630 M-F only in French, 0700-0730 daily in Hausa. Starts at 0400 daily English, 0500-0530 Hausa (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2185 monitoring: confirmed UT Saturday April 8 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+20/30 into Missouri SDR. Also confirmed UT Saturday April 8 at 0400 on WBCQ Radio Angela, 5130, minus 19 Hz = 5129.981, S9+5/20 into Missouri SDR, vs storm crashes from off the TX/LA Gulf coasts. Also confirmed Saturday April 8 at 1600 on WRN N America webcast; preceded by quick FSN, ID, intro, and always a pregnant pause before playback start. DX test from KJJR supposed to start at 0601, but not heard until 0605 on the DX398, Morse code: VVV VVV VVV DE KJJR - and repeated several times. So that`s it: won`t need to listen another bihour. Besides, this is not the second, not the third, but the fourth DX special from KJJR, Whitefish, Montana in last few years when I also heard it: Nov 8, 2020; Jan 8, 2022; Nov 5, 2022. It`s 10 kW on ND day pattern. Peaks NW/SE but can`t eliminate KRVN, WCBS nor something in Spanish. At 0607 sounds like SSTV which is a new mode for these, and no way am I going to be able to decode it. No doubt there will be countless other reports about in IRCA. Tnx for the test. Sibling station KSEN 1150, Shelby MT, to do the same thing 24 hours later. In this case day pattern will be advantageous, SSE instead of NNW at night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, April 8 at 0610, JBA carrier presumed RV still here. I`m not up after 0700, so Gary Pence, KM5X, says: ``Same report as last night. Report for April 8th, 2023: Hello Glenn, at 0713z from KFS NW [antenna on California coast] just under S9 on 3945 and S9 on 7890 and S9+5/12db on 11835 kHz. 73, Gary`` He also followed up on April 7: ``Hi Glenn, just happened to check KFS SW and Vanuatu seems to be off air sometime before 0900z. On all 3 frequencies heard after 07z. Gary``} (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 1907 UT April 8 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
