some hum, instead of CRI/CGTN in English, scheduled via CUBA at 03-05
in English, Cantonese. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn

** CUBA. 4765, Jan 10 at 0337, no signal from R. Progreso. Have not
been checking for it much during short nominal sked, 0130-0500; has
anyone heard it lately? Only other 60mb Cubans, 5040 RHC and 5025
Rebelde are also off, tho 5025 is sometimes on. Something`s always
wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Jan 10 at 0722, no signal detectable from R.
Kiribati, nor any other 9/kHz JBA split carriers (Glenn Hauser, OK,

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.018, Jan 10 at 2304, VOT English is on today
but with hum and way undermodulated, S9+30 into UTwente. By 2312 the
CCCCCCI from EAST TURKISTAN is on adding to the QRM and making a
rippling SAH since VOT is so far off-frequency. 2312-2328 `Weekly
Commentary` about the CFA Franc and Africa solving its own problems;
2332 next feature whose title I can never understand, something about
Tuerkiye`s Geo-something. Sign off and cut carrier at 2353* after only
a few notes of IS, no finesse --- either that or an extra hour in
German. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK,

JAxonvil FL, first heard tuned to 341 USB, along with EI EnId and OIN

Tuesday January 10 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, S9/+20 direct; 0152 recheck
faded way down to S9/S5 with propagation disturbance, but back up

from WLCR/WBCQ-6, so never on today? Wonder what`s the problem now.
Still no sign of frequency-agile capability (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, Jan 10 at 0010 notes from a phone call by George
McClintock of the real WTWW: 5085 #2 transmitter is now running 75 kW
to conserve electricity altho capable of 105. Ted ``destroyed
commercial broadcasting`` on the non-SFA transmitter as it has been
difficult to regain clients, who concluded SW is no good. Anyhow, #1
transmitter is disabled, lacking 8 cards to make it run at no more
than 75-80 kW. Has not had a chance to get #2`s 9 MHz daytime
frequency operational. Has photographic evidence of the messes Ted
left, even worse than the ones already sent me.

5085, Jan 10 at 0338, SFA talking about something happening in March
2022, so it`s not limited to hoary decade-old recordings of PPPP.
At least did not seem like a prophecy (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

not, i.e. already around 1440 UT, nothing of a signal came in via any
of the relevant SDR spots like Uruguay or even Brazil (Pardinho) or

accompany a seminap: barbershop quartet? with gospel harmonies in
English, with occasional interruptions by hyper announcer of `Palavra
Alegre` in Brazuguese from MWV. S9/+10 but with very heavy flutter
adding to the effect, despite trans-equatorial path to here rather

wrong, more weekday work? Has been mostly on when checked elsewhen
such as after 0700 today and circa 2235 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7890, Jan 9 at 0735, R. Vanuatu a JBA carrier, but better
than the JJBBA carrier on 11835; harmonix of 3945. Other Jan 9
reports:

Gary Pence, KM5X: ``Vanuatu is S8 to S9+10db into AI6VN/HH6 rSDR in
Maui on 7890 and little stronger on 11835 from 0701z To 0712z. News
broadcast in Bislama, English reporting on earthquake damage and
flooding including all local news. I don't think it was major damage
but report I heard at ToH was from a news correspondent in
Bougainville, then the rest of the news followed. gp``

Ron Howard: ``Jan 9 - Radio Vanuatu not affected by quake. 7260 at
0605+ UT, with end of the news/sports and start of RV promo; lots of
island music; 0657, start of commercial announcements ("Media
enterprises," etc.); cut off just at 0659*; no QRM (no Mongolia);
*0659, heard on harmonic 7890, while 3945 and 11835H were not heard.
