Glenn Hauser logs June 27-28, 2024  View Printable Version
Saturday, June 29 2024

Hauser
** CANADA [and non]. After a day of mostly <88 MHz MUFs June 26, late
evening sporadic E FM DX had erupted UT June 27 when I checked DXMAPs
after 0230. So hastened to the car. Except for this, all other logs
this session are filed at OKLAHOMA [and non].

93.1 at 0248, ``30 minutes of music -- for you -- sound, CFNO`` and
$ tereo rock. I thought DX would be from NW like Alberta, but this is:
CFNO-FM 93.1 MARATHON ON CAN 50.0 kW 265.0 m 48-45-11 86-34-52 HOT AC
Overriding the fringe Kansan on 93.1. Marathon is on the north shore
of Lake Superior between Thunder Bay and Wawa (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9700, June 28 at 0640, RHC in Spanish, S9+30, on *much* later
than usual; would collide with NZ as heard here last night, but no
sign of it now for me, but:

``[WOR] Cuba squatting on New Zealand's 9700 kHz allocation, 0700 UTC
June 28 --- Fri, Jun 28 at 7:27 AM --- Tuned into 9700 kHz at 0700 UTC
June 28 to find Radio Havana Cuba still on the air in Spanish,
clashing with RNZ Pacific. 73 Ricky Leong, Calgary, Alberta,
Canada``

Somethings` always wrong at RHC, At 0649, 6000 is also still on at
S9+15/20 but dead air except some tone (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. DXMAP shows Es FM DX paths between OK area and southwest
Mexico, so I delay lunch and head to the car thru 100-degree heat, max
109 later! June 28:

92.7 at 1848 UT, tropical/Mexmx $ , 1849 f/out, 1851 f/in ``Conexión
92.7`` so it is:
XHCPDI-FM 92.7 AGUASCALIENTES AGS 65.0 kW 46.41 m 21-50-46 102-17-16
TU CONEXION CULTURE VARIETY CONEXIÓN 92.7

92.1 at 1852, $ PSA, Soriana ad, ``Locura FM``, Nayarit ad, two more
``Locura FM``, 11:53 time = MST UT -7. Also at 1912, Mex rap,
``Locura`` in lyrix; 1913 ``92.1 Locura FM``, 12:13 timecheck = MST UT
-7. No crazy Locura slogan listed anywhere in Mexico. Therefore must
be a change for this:
XHUX-FM relays: AM 810 92.1 TEPIC NAY 5.0 kW 230.7 m 21-43-44
105-03-55 GRUPERA LA PATRONA

94.5 at 1854, rock/salsa f/in/out; 1856 Spanish announcement with
background noise, mentions Argentina, Esperanza; Aguascalientes,
``R-U-A-A``, ``proyección de la Voz Universitaria``, CCI, plug program
viernes at 2 pm on 94.5 FM; 1858 talk about a student in Poughkeepsie
[!], Nueva York. A bit of 94.5 Spanish JBA again at 1915:
XHUAA-FM 94.5 AGUASCALIENTES AGS 25.0 kW -16.0 m = BELOW average
terrain! 21-58-23 102-21-36 COLLEGE RADIO UNIVERSIDAD Universidad
Autónoma de Aguascalientes

93.5 at 1859, Spanish, CCI, YL & OM DJs, laughter SFXs, 1902 ad, ID
93.5 X---- fades but mentions Nayarit; 1903 SHVA = super-hype voice
actor lengthy ID as ``La Patrona`` 93.5 FM: WTFDA FMDB has no NAY on
this frequency, but Wikipedia: XHEJ-FM, Bahia de Banderas, Nayarit,
Mexico. Broadcast area: Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. 93.5, Branding: La
Patrona. Yes, Puerto Vallarta is right next to Nayarit:
XHEJ-FM 93.5 PUERTO VALLARTA JAL 25.0 kW -22.05 m = BELOW average
terrain! 20-46-12 105-12-27 REGIONAL MEXICAN LA PATRONA

93.3 at 1905, Spanish music CCI to OKC C&W, $ , 1908 ID missed, too
much QRM. There are no 93.3 stations in known PTA = probable target
area, of Jal, Nay, Ags

96.3 at 1909, Spanish briefly against 96.1 OKC ACI; two stations in
Jalisco

92.9 at 1911, Mexmx, maybe another from Nayarit PTA:
XHZE-FM 92.9 SANTIAGO IXCUINTLA NAY 25.0 kW 64.36 m 21-48-01 105-14-06
SPANISH HITS BALADAS LA PODEROSA

95.1 at 1916, Spanish CCI briefly to Bott KQCV OK. Only this in PTA,
calls used to apply to channel A3 in Mexicali often seen!: XHBC-FM
95.1 CD. GUZMÁN JAL 1.03 kW 270.0 m 19-39-52 103-27-40 3D44 - 'KRDS'
ADULT CONTEMPORARY BC 95.1

Opening lull or out by 1916, so break for my long-delayed lunch; one
more when resuming:
88.1 at 1952, ``Universal``, YL is despediding herself, ads in pesos,
Soriana, PSA about clínicas, CCI from Okies, .mx wesites. One 88.1 hit
on Universal!
XHRED-FM 88.1 CD. DE MÉXICO CDMX 95.0 kW 561.0 m 19-27-08 99-22-03 HD
3D4F XHRED-FM 88.1 FM Oldies NEWS/TALK UNIVERSAL 88.1 (Glenn Hauser,
Enid OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1020 KOKP and 105.1 KOSB Perry, June 28 at 1458 UT, are
still off the air after windstorm, early UT June 26. Does website
acknowledge this?
http://tripleplaysportsradio.com/
NO! Header describes group this way: ``105.1 & 93.1 Stillwater, 93.3
Ponca City, 1020 Perry, 1580 Blackwell`` - I`ve never heard the 93.1
translator, unless that was the sporadic dead-airer; nor 93.3 blocked
by OKC station; there is a link to X, but ``nothing to see here yet``
Abottom home page, interesting animated weather map of wind predixions
for the following week from www.windy.com Another check June 28 at
1918 after MexiDX, 105.1 is back on but not 1020; and 1580 has stayed
on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. After a day of mostly <88 MHz MUFs June 26,
late evening sporadic FM DX had erupted UT June 27 when I check DXMAPs
after 0230. So hasten to the car. See also CANADA for one definite
log. Frequency after frequency turn out to be ``spoilers`` from KS,
OK, or TX with enhanced conditions anear rather than Es from afar!

89.5 at 0246, jazz in $ tereo, not Tulsa or Kansas per skeds; mixing
with gospel huxter, normally `open` frequency. 0300 ID for KJCC
Carnegie OK, amid CCI. At 0315 promos for FRC. 0332 about evangelism
in Nicaragua; anti-mainstream-media, Family Research Council plugs,
``The Washington Stand``, frc.org; 0337 program now is ``Washington
Watch``. A huge affiliate list is here for W.W.:
https://www.tonyperkins.com/stations
Far Christian right show, via several networks, AFR, Bott, CSN, etc.
Searching on 89.5 leads to 15 stations including KJCC from CSN at this
hour.

96.5 at 0249, Tulsa Mix 96.5 has CCI, with ad for phone 225-9111 Steve
Johnson. Search on that leads only to Barrie, Ontario, landscaping
business; but no viable radio hits there.

101.3 at 0252, ``Today`s best country`` and tasteofcountry.com - KFDI
Wichita KS and KLAW Lawton OK, both fringers, are struggling for
primacy, and both country, but not those exact slogans in FMDB - maybe
program names rather than stations`. Website has plenty of stuff
including podcasts, but nothing about radio affiliates.

101.5 at 0254, Mexmx in $ , strong but fades out just in time for any
0300 ID! Hope it`s Es, but surely not Canada. Could be fringer in KS,
100/100 kW KSMM Liberal. As I noted before, our nearby religious SS in
Okeene OK, is absent. 0323 f/in again Mexmx.

102.5 at 0305 in $ mentions ``Christian faith``, normally vacant
channel here; maybe 100/100 kW KKCV, BOTT in Rozel KS, which is WSW of
Great Bend on the way to Garden City. Nothing in OK.

103.9 at 0304 SRN news, KHYM ID. Is 100/100 kW Copeland KS, also
relays invading OK.

94.1 at 0308, ``94.1 KXOJ`` ID, gospel mx - Glenpool OK (Tulsa). 0327,
program `Live Wire Nights`, CCI, David Jeremiah with San Diego
address, ``Turning Point``. Website
https://www.davidjeremiah.org/radio has neat feature, ``stations near
you``, six in KS and OK including two in Enid - but not on 94.1.
Download and consult *huge* station list by country, state and city:

https://d2urhn0mmik6is.cloudfront.net/site/_images/radio2/radio_log.pdf
Incredibly the call for every CSN affiliate is KAWZ-FM, its orginator
in Idaho, not local calls! including what should be KJCC 89.5 Carnegie
OK. There are only? 10 hits on 94.1, including in OK, only ``KQCV-FM``
OKC, which is a translator, in addition to 95.1 KQCV-FM Shawnee. Yet
what I am hearing is either KXOJ, or 9.8/9.8 kW KTHM 94.1 Waynoka
``The House`` relayer of 89.7.

96.7 at 0309, DFW ad, as KTCK again penetrates way up here from Flower
Mound TX.

88.1 at 0313, song with lyric ``97.5 Radio One``, and ``The Bird``,
then a song about Virgin Mary. What in the world? That`s the slogan of
DXLM in Philippines and of an Atlanta station, but what about 88.1?
There is no Georgia connexion between 97.5 and 88.1. Could be *CBC*
Radio One, CBEW Windsor on 97.5, but again what`s the 88.1 connexion?
Maybe this: CBEW relayed on 88.1:
CBEE-FM relay of:CBEW-FM 97.5 88.1 CHATHAM-KENT ON 1.43 kW 126.0 m
42-27-00 82-04-59 NEWS/TALK CBC RADIO ONE WINDSOR - but would CBEW
have any local programming mentioning 97.5 other than IDs during
national feed? Could also be merely an Okie spoiler with strange
programming.

101.7 at 0322, mention ``Royal Fund Management``, smax of Canadian?
and fade-out. No, HQ in The Villages, Florida, but could do business
anywhere.

Another possible Es opening, June 27 at 2034, nets only nearbies:

92.1 at 2034, ``The Beat`` - that`s 27/27 kW KTBT Broken Arrow
(Tulsa). More dominant normally is KFXI 100/100 kW Marlow mono.

92.3 at 2036, L&C sportstalk, ``Throwback``, Wichita mentioned. So
KKGQ Newton KS, 100/100 kW. Woodward OK talk station normally
dominates.

97.1 at 2040, L&C sportstalk, normally nothing vs 96.9 local. Mentions
Oklahoma, ad for Sun & Sky. So 100/100 kW KYAL Muskogee (Tulsa) Sports
Animal (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Fri June 28 at 2201, token English from SNR, S9+20/30
direct with news, leading with snap elexion in France. 2207 Mideast
correspondent on Lebanon music festival at end of June, also good on
17715, fair on 15520, not checked on 15390. 2223 S9/+10 via Maryland
SDR on Russian influence in Africa increasing as France and USA
withdraw (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Fri June 28 at 2159, VOT not off the air, S9/+10
direct with IS, 2200 timesignal 4 seconds late; 2210 about an elexion
postponed from June to August, with dramatic mid-news stingers. 2222
via UTwente when measured, S9+30/40 with `Folk Tales`. 2230 music.
2234 `That`s Why`, Ms Badax, this week on paradoxes, contradixions,
repeat of June 24, music. 2247 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2249
music. 2253 s/off ignoring SW, obsolete? 2253.5 IS once before
chopoff*, no finesse (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28225 CW, June 28 at 2203, K5GJR/B and gridsquare, Orange
Grove TX, previously logged June 5, q.v. Much stronger than:
28245, June 28 at 2204, the Long Beach beacon WA6APQ again, see June
26; and even weaker 28300, K6FRC. No phonesigs on 10m in quick
bandscan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2249 monitoring: confirmed Friday
June 28 at 2058 the 2030 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1322.995 kHz,
S9/+10 into nearby Noale SDR; also confirmed the 2030 on WRMI webcast
only.

Also confirmed Friday June 28 at 2200, first SWBC on WRMI 9955, S9/+10
direct, JBA direct as undermodulated and about equal to noise level;
at 2225 into Bonaire, S6/S8 with some jamming; better into Maryland
S5/S7 with less noise but still some jamming.

Also confirmed Friday June 28 at 2243 the 2230 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 3975.000, S8/9+5 into UTwente.

I notice already June 28, WRMI transmitter skedgrid has been
advance-dated July 1; but each individual System grid is still dated
March 10, altho there have been many changes since then. Nothing added
or deleted compared to known WOR timings. Next:

** U S A. 15770, June 28 at 0638, S8/S9 of dead air from WRMI-9,
unusual; yet it`s the SSOB in depressed propagation: strongest signal
on band. Scheduled at 0630 daily and normally heard is Eslovaquia in
Espanish. More DA reported on 15770 before and after 20 UT by John
Figliozzi, Kari Kallio (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Pre-`AAAWWW` chex of WBCQs, June 28 at 2345 into NH SDR:
3265 & 5130 OFF; 6160 -71 Hz = 6159.929 TOMBS S7/9+10; 7490 -71 =
7489.929 - see how they match, FKB S9+10. Instead of a verbal ``one
minute`` warning to FKB, a tone alert, so he wraps up in time for
double WBCQ ID, and disclaimer that the following AAAWWW originally
aired June 21, 2024, i.e. last week as I already reported on it; never
mind (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 9960, June 28 at 0644, R. Vanuatu with island music, S6/S7
direct. As for 7260, Manuel Méndez says, ``7260 is on air these days
at about 2000, and before 2000 on 3945`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 10125 USB, June 28 at 0640, trace of JBA talk. I check
this every night in bandscans and first time anything heard in months.
There was an Australian ragchew ham net before, but never could copy
any IDs. Wish others would check this. Apparently, only in Australia,
phone is allowed on ``30m``, not just CW/digital. The expired
Colombian ham HK3QQ with partly incorrect CW in keyboard order on same
frequency is no longer ever heard (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ANTARCTICA. 15476, June 27 at 1945, no signal from LRA36 into
Argentine SDRs; Manuel Méndez, Spain was notified they planned to be
back on today from 1800, but also a no-show for him and Zach Liangas
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 9700, Thu June 27 at 0705, RNZP news, VG but slightly
stronger on // 13690; perhaps part of weekly testing, two transmitters
at once; including the new one? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [non]. 1020, June 27 at 0708 UT, talking about Pittsburgh,
so indeed KDKA is audible again tnx to KOKP Perry blown off the air
last night. A minor 250-watt station but too close to here; maybe KDKA
still audible in much of the country (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2248 monitoring: Not confirmed UT

** CUBA. 4765, June 26 at 0148, no signal from R. Progreso, but 5025,
R. Rebelde is on. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba. The Other
Side:

``Covert castigation: violations of the right to health in Cuban
prisons ---
While ordinary prisoners' health is compromised by 'indifference and
indolence, political prisoners are victims' of 'systematic attacks' on
their health through conditions of isolation, and illnesses, explains
Juan Carlos González Leyva.
Raúl Medina Orama, Lima, 25 Jun 2024 - 18:01 CEST

Magalis González turns on the camera on her cell phone to post her
umpteenth complaint on social media about the health of her son,
Ismael Rodríguez González. The young man, sentenced to seven years in
prison in Cuba for the massive protests in July 2021 (11-J) lies near
her, dazed and with swollen feet, after arriving from the Guanajay
Penitentiary, west of Havana, where he is serving his sentence...``

** ETHIOPIA [and non]. 11610, June 25 at 1830, VOA Amharic this hour
via Woofferton UK is being jammed by buzzing and beeping noises, but
at UTwente, that`s underneath VOA. Tnx to tip from Paul Walker. At
1840, no jamming audible into TWR Kenya remote. By 1915 when language
is Oromo, jamming level is heavier as heard by UTwente. Why would
Ethiopia be so concerned about VOA? Of course the Amharix and Oromos
don`t get along. Recorded sample of jamming right after VOA went off
at 1929; maybe will put into WOR 2249 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 105.1, June 25 at 2322, KOSB Perry is MONO, not shown as
such in WTFDA FMDB. ``Triple Play Sports`` also on AM 1020 & 1580. And
running a commercial for ``University of Maryland, Global Campus``, of
all things, in OSU territory.

However, at 2030 check June 26, 105.1 is OFF, likely another victim of
last night`s windstorm / powerlines down. And at 2043, I notice that
its AM companion, 1020 KOKP is also off! Maybe we can hear KDKA again
tonight if not RVC Roswell. Third 3-play outlet, 1580 KOKB Blackwell
is still ON. I thought they operated out of Stillwater but NRC AM Log
shows Ponca City address for 1020 & 1580, the latter being close to
PC. Trying to check whether 105.1 and 1020 are at same site, but FCC
AM Query can`t find KOKP! As if it have been deleted. LMS can, but not
the page with coordinates. All three are licensed until 2029y.

Since the WTFDA FM DB editors apparently don`t pay attention to my
reports, I have notified them directly about this mono and others
confirmed this year by monitoring: in OK: KIEL 89.3, KFXI 92.1, KOSU
91.7 =50/50; KS: KCVW 94.3; TX: KTCK 96.7; Mexico: XHMYL 92.1. And
just now at 2030 June 26, I notice two more monos: KHEV 90.3, Fairview
OK; and 100.9, K265FL, Enid, talkradio translator tail wagging the dog
of 960 KGWA. KQCV 95.1 Shawnee is another Bott station, likely to be
mono too? Yes! at 2308 fadeups vs KICT Wichita which is $ tereo, the
100/100 kW KQCV signal is definitely mono.

95.3, the KOKC translator in OKC, K237GE, is in $ tereo, talk station
might as well be mono for slightly more effective coverage. Would you
believe that the WTFDA FMDB shows its antenna height as 0 meters
HAAT?? It must really be way up on some TV tower to reach as far as
Enid reliably with 250 watts. FCC FM Query also shows 0 m HAAT, but
658 m AMSL and 314 m AGL, with a link to Calculate HAAT: that
``results`` in 302 m -- that`s 990 feet. If our LP CP on 95.1 come on,
will put an end to it around here (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 15, June 26 circa 1500 and still at 2359 UT, NO signal
from KTBO ``14``, Trinity in OKC. Must have been blown off air by huge
hurricane-force straight winds/not tornadic storm hitting OKC area
late last night, many power lines down in addition to building
damages. KTBO also missing from Optimum cable ch 3 in Enid: unlikely
to have relied on off-air pickup, so TBN damage may be more than just
transmitter/antenna. All other OKC TV signals back to `normal` levels
except RF 29 KTUZ, weakened but still sufficient. Nothing recent on
KTBO website, let alone any damage report!
https://www.tbn.org/stations/ktbo-tv-oklahoma-city-ok
God got`em, but not the secular competitors.

KFOR, KOCO, KWTV and KOKH all went full-storm coverage pre-empting at
least late-night network shows. CBS Colbert, a rerun anyway, could be
found on shunt station KSBI ``52`` on RF 23. No doubt each station`s
website has much about the storm; damage repair expected to take quite
some time. Thousands of customers are without power as temps exceed
100. Enid was missed by this but eastern part of Garfield County also
had outages, as well as many other counties eastward and southward
