Sunday, December 15 2024

Logs
** OKLAHOMA. 28434 USB, Dec 13 at 2314, KJ5CMP, Isaiah in Oklahoma
contacting Oregon. Unusual to hear any Okie on 10m, too close for
skip, so this one must be quite near. His signal drops drastically as
he moves/switches antenna. Then calling CQ when I finally copy his
fonetix. ARRL shows Russell, Isaiah L, 10400 N US Hwy 81, Enid. Hey,
look at this with photos at QRZ.com:

``Hello Everyone, smiley - My name is Isaiah Russell. I am 13 years
old. I passed my Technician test in August, 2023, and upgraded to
General December of 2023. I come from a family of Ham Radio operators
such as my late great grandad, my grandmother, grandad, my Dad
(N5VOF), my Mom (KJ5CMS), and my older brother (WD5JR). I enjoy
traveling and look forward to getting into POTA. God Bless, 73 KJ5CMP
yes LICW K-120`` (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 95.1, Dec 13 at 2230, `Washington Watch` on Bott Network,
KQCV when I am trying to pull in new KOKJ-LP Enid - subject is
preserving AM radio in cars. ``Today`s`` episode appears at the
far-Christian
https://bottradionetwork.com/ministry/washington-watch/
Guest is Troy Miller of NRB, starting 27 minutes into the 54-minute
show (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Dec 13 at 2258, REE not off the air, VG S9+40/50
direct, also on 12030 at S9+10/20, JBA carriers on 17715, 17755. 2300
open token English, preview topic Project Zero about education. News
includes 41K migrants to Canary Islands this year; 766 applicants for
euthanasia, which year? Of which 334 were granted, but dozens died
already. There is normally a 6-7 day waiting period for this in Spain.
Voicer from Leb. correspondent about Syria. She pronounces ``rebels``
as ``reebels``. 2309 into ``Project Zero: learning outside/in``
interview (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9610, Dec 13 at 2257 JBA signal, maybe VOT IS, and nothing
on 5960 direct. Here we go again? No, by 2259, 5960.004- *is* on at
S9/+10 with English s/on, but insufficient vs noise level. At 2326
into UTwente when measured, S9+30/35 yet the 6CI quite underaudible,
song. 2329, `That`s Why`
with Efsun the axentuated, repeat about the ``lost continent,
Zelandia`` almost as big as Australia, not Gondwonaland as I guessed
before. 2338 music. 2353 s/off as if 1330 on 13635: something`s always
awry at Ankara. 2354 IS. 2356 restart IS and off before any German,
uncovering Chinese (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.017-, Sat Dec 14 at 2305, VOT English VG into UTwente,
S9+40/45. But at 2306 my attention to BBCWS for the Morse Code
documentary. 2330 back here during song; 2333 more music; 2336
another; 2340 another - *never* identifying the music in any way. 2344
another after a pause with the 6CI audible underneath. 2351
multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2353 s/off as if the 1330 on 13635:
something`s always awry at Ankara. 2354.5 IS. 2356 pause and restart
IS with German IDs twice per minute, off at 2357.3* (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** UKOGBANI [non]. 11645, Dec 13 at 2300, BBCWS via USAGM Tinang,
PHILIPPINES fairly good directly off the back of Indonesian beam, but
at 2306 I want best reception possible, via remote in Jakarta,
somewhat better than Bandung, for much-publicized documentary, `Morse
Code: Ready to Transmit`, recorded at an international competition in
Tunisia. Nice publicity for ham radio too. I`m the only User of this
remote (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 251 MCW kHz, Dec 14 at 0752 UT, AM, 100-watt ND beacon at
AMarillo TX.

293 MCW kHz, Dec 14 at 0757 UT, UI, 30-watt NDB at qUIncy IL,
overcoming usual owner FBY FairBurY NE (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

America rather than // 5085.

Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7570, Dec 14 at 0223, WRMI-11 finally back on air some two
months after hurricane damage, to feedline? with TOMBS at S9+30/35. If
it stay, WORLD OF RADIO Sunday at 2330 should return to 7570 toward NW
instead of temporary shift never shown on skedgrid to WRMI-13, 7780
toward SW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Pre-`AAAWWW` chex of WBCQs, UT Sat Dec 14 at 0043, into NH
SDR: 3265 & 5130 off. 6160 -71 Hz = 6159.929. 7490 -77 Hz = 7489.923
at S6/S7. 9330.000 S9/+10. Before 0100, into Maryland SDR, 5130 -25 Hz
= 5129.975 is now on, so I listen there as `WTO` theme starts, Allan
interjects ``the hits just keep on comin```, and ``Gang``. Notes it`s
63 degrees in Deland of Fla on Friday 13th - so this is live and new.
Angela`s first love is her horse, not Allan, couldn`t catch horsename.
Lance Cook is general manager in Maine, runs the Superstation. Never
heard his name before, and is nowhere on the website wbcq.com - only
five other names listed as Our Staff. The Ampegon antenna cost $ 8
million. It has a tubular sexion, 10-12 feet diameter. ATU inside it
has to be cooled, but that failed accounting for off the air ~3 days.
Mechanical Service Co. fixed it. They are good for showing up on short
notice when there is a problem. 0122 unusually plays some music, and
fiddling around with linx, gets some more tunes on. 0128 simulcasting
on 7490 & 5130, on 13 December, YOOLF 2024, from Studio #9 in Fla.
0130 Angela`s favorite song, ``You Piss Me Off``. 0156 recheck into
emails (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This Dec 13 episode is here:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 9960, Dec 14 at 0748, JBA carrier so RV still running here
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Geminid Meteor Shower DX: I have no funxional hi-gain
external FM antennas any more, but I perceive a couple of meteor

OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs December 13, 2024  View Printable Version
Friday, December 13 2024

Logs
** CANADA. 353 MCW kHz, Dec 13 at 0744 UT, dash and PG: 25 watts at
Portage-la-Prairie, Manitoba. Logged only once before, this year:
``353 MCW kHz, Feb 29 at 0734, dash and PG, 25 watt ND beacon from
PortaGe-la-Prairie, Manitoba, new one for me; 944 miles so 37.76 miles
per watt`` - this time not hearing the usual 353 occupant, LI in
LIttle Rock (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA [and non]. 328 MCW kHz, Dec 13 at 0739 UT, dash and YTL:
1000 watt NDB at Big Trout Lake, Ont. Right next to regular 329 MCW,
PMV, 25 watts at Plattsmouth NE (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 11765, Fri Dec 13 at 1558, S9+20/30 of soft Chinese music
and talk, 6-pip timesignal to 1600 and off* immediately. CNR1 Jammer
against RFA Chinese via Kuwait, M/W/F 1500-1600, of which no sign.
Aoki does not mark this hour as *jammed, unlike before 1500 vs Sound
of Hope, but EiBi does (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, Dec 13 at 1555, S7/S8 of dead air, possibly Just
Barely Modulated - the only sign of RHC lately, not even on 6000
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH. 6155, Dec 13 at 0822, JBA carrier. EiBi listed is only
KBSWR in Japanese at 0800-1000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1670, Dec 13 at 2025 UT, on caradio at home some 2 miles
away, I now have JBA music from presumed Virtual DJ Radio, too early
for any skywave from any of the 5 NAm too far real X-banders. Local
noise level still awful but may have abated slightly, and/or VDJR
nudged power upabit. BTW, the connexion between 1670 and Mr. Jeff Pino
is only circumstantial as he admits to having been a DJ and a member
of that group (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 95.1, Dec 13 at 2027 UT on caradio at home, KQCV Shawnee,
Bott is dominating rather than KOKJ-LP Enid. I drive toward downtown
and KOKJ music slowly takes over. Then I drive 7 blox north to address
of record, 701 N Grand, the decrepit building with a one-element
antenna on a pole - and tnx to Greg Hardison, I don`t have to
photograph it - and guess what, right across the street it`s NOT a
solid signal, losing out to KICT/KQCV. Therefore I think the site is
really closer to downtown, such as the otherwise vacant skyscraper
Broadway Tower which already hosts some FM transmitters. No, FCC FM
Query shows different coordinates for KKRD 91.1. Either way, the
signal is not even solid to a 1-mile radius, so doubt it is even 100
watts. I have yet to hear any ID, legal or not, in random listening,
even around hourtops. Most of my portables at home, scarcely a mile
away, can`t get it, except one with very careful antenna angling
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** U S A. 314 MCW kHz, Dec 13 at 0737 UT, VC as best I can copy, but
must be VTN, Valentine NE, as recently definitely logged (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2273 monitoring: missed checking
Friday December 13 at 1300 on WRMI 15770; anyone hear it?

Also confirmed Friday December 13 at 2130 on IRRS via AM Italia,
1322.998+, S9 into UTwente across Europe. Also confirmed on WRMI
webcast only. Next:

2330 UT Friday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
0400 UT Saturday WTWW 5085; now also streaming:

Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, WTWW: early UT Friday Dec 13, George McClintock says
there was a problem with a plunger in the #2 transmitter, but a good
chance would be back on air in time for WOR UT Sat at 0400 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15150, Dec 13 at 1554, Yahweh stuff, so WMLK is back here
today; thought maybe would stay on 17525 for the first block (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. `Coast to Coast AM`, music break at 0734 UT Dec 13, during
which I hear the same music on 6 frequencies in a row, widely varying
reception and QRM. At least this show is a respite from relentless
far-right nonsense, like RER. Show website makes you pick a state
first rather than a frequency list. From NRC AM Log, I extract the
C2CAM stations:
550: KFYI AZ, WDUN GA, WKRC OH, KCRS TX, WSAU WI
560: KBLU AZ, *KWTO MO, WVOC SC, KLVI TX, KPQ WA
570: WAAX AL, WSYR NY, WWNC NC, WKBN OH, *KLIF TX, KNRS UT
580: WGAC GA, KIDO ID, *WIBW KS, WTAG MA, WHP PA, CFRA ON
590: KCSJ CO, WKZO MI, KLBJ TX, KSUB UT, KQNT WA
600: KOGO CA, KCOL CO, *WMT IA, WREC TN, KTBB TX
Well, that narrows it down. I * the usual ones (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 1510 kHz, Dec 13 at 2049 UT on caradio, surprised to find a
loud & clear station here, with 913 AC ad for SalesKC.com - so it`s
KCTE, 10 kW daytimer direxional thisaway from Independence MO, sports
format; eventually back to talk of some sort, calling for fitness.
Early winter skywave at highband - but I don`t find anything else
unusual from the KC area, not even 1660, only JBA. Eventually KCTE
fades down a bit (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5995, Dec 13 at 0820, JBA music and nothing on 9635, so
presumably R. Mali did not QSY at 0800. Or, after 0700, 5995 could be
Echo of Hope, Korea South (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9490, Dec 13 at 0824, open carrier rather strong. Only
thing sked is Tibet, unlikely; like log of Nov 23, q.v. (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9985, Dec 13 at 0827, JBA music, likely CNR1 jammer vs
Sound of Hope (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

From now and for an unknowntime, at least for 3 years, I will not use any radio except the remote SDRs forDXing. Recently we moved from the village back to the city in a space thatprohibits the use of desktop DXing, a place flooded by high levels of noise inthe LMHF bands. The radio is now used mostly for FM, for news listening.we runpolitically lively condition with always very interesting twits every day ..
