*Foot Odor* remedies starting with soaking them in lemon water. Wow,
such a helpful SW station, info provided nowhere else! Same catchy
theme plays at end 2237; into Turkrock. 2242 DYKT? = `Did you know
that?` 14-km-long beach, and a Roman era tunnel 1380 m long, 7 m hi, 6
m wide, for water. Brief DYKT O&C theme includes beeps. After usual
disorganized recitation of English sked, chopped off air at 2255*
following only first two notes of IS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Security Issue` with the too-fast-talking-heavily-accented guy,
including: Russia has a shortage of manpower for the war; there should
be a Nuremberg-like trial of war criminals; more shelling of power

first broadcast UT Friday August 12 at 0130 on WRMI 7730 because it`s
OFF THE AIR! Tuned in at 0124, no signal to UTwente nor Maryland,
still off at several chex, but back ON by 0159 in time for Brother
Scare, replacing R. Liberty at 0200-0300 but still at 0400-0500 per
skedgrid, but 7730 is supposed to be on 1530-0630+, so hope this be
only a one-time anomaly, especially since this happens to be the only
WOR airing to the NE on 44-degree azimuth, good for the east coast and
Europe, and S Asia? As WOR is no longer anytime on 15770 either tho
still shown on skedgrid as Saturday 1930!

Confirmed, however, first broadcast UT Friday August 12 at 0130 on
WRMI 5850 to the NW; only S7/S9 into Maryland SDR, S9+30 into Missouri
but stormnoisy, as also direct. Best into Georgia SDR at S9+25 and
less noisy.

Also confirmed UT Friday August 12 at 0330 on WRMI 7780 - again on
Georgia SDR but no signal now feared also off; but on and audible into
Missouri, S7/S9+10, noisy and not solid; despite way offbeam to the
SW, best almost northward into Maryland, S5/S8.

Also confirmed Friday August 12 at 1430 on WRMI 9955, S7/S9 direct and
no jamming audible. 1428 preceded by ME? music buffer.

Also confirmed Friday August 12 from 1815.4 on IRRS SW via AM Italia,
1323 kHz only, good into nearby Noale SDR, with CCI in German from
Romanian minolity service, sometimes overcoming during fadeup circa
1839; meanwhile the alt. or ex-frequency, 918 kHz has NO signals to
cause QRM! //7290 via Bulgaria also, not checked until 1823 but
presumably on from 1801.

Additional monitoring before and after: 1323 kHz from 1753 tune-in,
songs in Spanish, unknown program or fill; 1759 opens ``Country
Jamboree``, but shortly it`s ``Country Style USA``, a US Army
produxion, so originally on AFRTS? 1800 ``IRRS SW Milano, signing on``
which must be confusing for listeners on MW which is already on.
`Feature Story News` including 1803 `Spotlite`. 1805 UN News. 1808.5
songs in English. 1814 open show of Irish music, soon chopped off 1815
for ID and 1815.4 WOR. Afterwards: 1844 song, ID, 1845 more music till
7290 chopped off at 1857*; 1323 continues to 1859 ``IRRS SW signing
off`` offering QSL for reports to Milano PO Box which is otherwise
denied, and Verdi theme, QRM from brief tone presumably Romania
closing; 1323 still going at 1902..

Missed checking the WOR 2151 repeat at 2030 Fri Aug 12 on 1323 only,
but has been quite reliable especially when 1815 had succeeded. Did
anyone hear it? Note that next Friday 19th, being the third in August,
WOR will be pre-empted by some monthly music show on SW & MW at 1815,

reported: ``6080, Radio Marumby, Curitiba, BRAZIL, 0640-0653, 07-08,
Portuguese, religious songs and comments. 15421``. EiBi shows this one
with strange hours of 1000-0800, but Aoki as 24 hours. Normally I`d
not consider 3 Hz off as consequential, but what about VOA? MM had I=5
no QRM, and the language, content clinch it as not VOA, so we need
exact current measurements of frequency of both, perhaps at other

self-QRM rather than external het/QRM, but it also increases
distortion level of what`s left. 2119 talk briefly sounds like another
language, maybe French, why? Not Arabic. English talk mixed with music
so guess not news, yet. 2130 another timesignal, this time only 35
seconds late. Of course only a few seconds of each would be due to
internet delay. Something`s always egregious in Egypt. As far as I

both alternating, JBA; with different periods, at first the three dits

heard than usual from a few km away; 332 IC, wIChita KS is JBA; 515,
PN, PoNca City is still strongest; 255 SW StillWater is still off.
Also still high local line? noise level peaking in the 380-420 kHz
area, allowing only a JBA carrier on 395 from one Kansan and/or
another and nothing on 407 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wednesday August 10 at 2200, REE`s token English,
missing since mid-July resumed Aug 8 and now again with Justin Coe,
Letterbox/Mailbox/DX program, a bluesy edition, after news from Spain.
2205.6 hard rock, outro as ``Communication Breakdown`` by Led
Zeppelin, but it`s a cover - apropos after the hiatus. 2209 explains
absence has not been due to heat, but the coincidence of one person on
vacation and the other on sick leave. There once were 6 Americans and
6 Brits in the English service, not any more. But SWBC is not yet
over, as the French service has a new person, and English will be
getting another in September. Justin has been on vacation somewhere in
the US, visiting thrift stores and buying blues records, since he also
does a blues show on Radio 3.

2212 to first mail, from Alan Roe, UK, welcoming him back; and says
Amy Egan is better. Second, from Joe Ihnat in Pennsylvania. 2214
another blues song by the Joe Healy Band. 2219 a June 19 letter from
Bruce Lee in Australia, who wants a QSL, but none are available. Maybe
will be in future, Justin doesn`t know. Then a 7 May from Dwight
Hitchins in Jamaica, Virginia, USA --- really? No such town in my
atlas indices. But Wikipedia says it`s in Middlesex County, 2K
population, unincorporated. He also wants QSL --- maybe, with
management change? 2224 another blues, ``All You Need`` by Matt
Schofield. 2225 last letter from Richard Lemke, Alberta, July 10, who
wants a schedule: don`t have any of those either. Things are rather
random at REE. 2228 a song for Richard, ``The Letter``, to 2230
timesignal and into French.

Only 5 listeners are greeted covering a 4-month period. How many more
might have piled up? So, good to have them back, but it was extremely
rude for no one immediately to make any explanation or apology on the
air about why it was missing, even if neither regular English
announcer were available. Whatever became of Gil Carbajal?

Today I was listening first via UTwente getting 17855 well, but some
deep fades, so switched to Maryland SDR in the storms, as this higher
frequency overcomes most of the crashes which spoilt WBCQ reception

on 5 other frequencies. System B, which accounts for 9955 usage most
of the time, is ``internet only`` with other programming until 1900

** AFGHANISTAN. This week`s `Frontline` on PBS, dated August 9,
``Afghanistan Undercover`` is an inside look on Taliban mistreatment
of women, well worth watching entirely, but starting about 30 minutes
into, a segment on a women`s radio station still on the air -- but of
course, run by men. Can`t find it in WRTH 2022. Saw an 89.8? go by:

** BRAZIL. 11715-11730 approx., August 9 at 2253, extremely loud
crackling spur in talk, some music; as has happened before I think
it`s out of the 11780 RNA transmitter which is now S9/+20, the SSOB
even more than Cuba; especially since I find a match on the opposite
side, 11835-11850 approx. Altho I do not have a second receiver handy
to correlate the modulation. There is also amorphous similar hash
further up to beyond 12 MHz which may be from the same source, if not
something local (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. Probably due to rolling blackouts, several RHC and relay
frequencies are missing, August 9 at 2346: 13650 CRI and nothing else
on 13 MHz; August 10 at 0000, no 5990, 6000, 9650, 9710, 11850, 11880,
11950 nor anything on 15 MHz.

These RHC Spanish are on after 0000 August 10: 11670, S8/S9; and
11760, S4/S6, both undermodulated.

6165, August 9 at 2359, RHC `English` already on at S9/+20 but *still*
horrible modulation like amplified whispering with a very narrow audio
bandwidth. The Other Side:

DIARIO DE CUBA Society --- Cuba is a Maleconazo (and this time a raft
crisis won't solve the problem) --- In just two weeks some 30 cities
and towns in 13 Cuban provinces have turned out to protest...

** GERMANY. 9670, August 9 at 2349, unmistakable Brother Scare is
audible, S3/S5, via Channel 292; while little else is arriving on 31m
from Europe except Romania. Is not shown on sked:

but it`s obvious that only a few hours per day are any other paid

** NORTH AMERICA. 6919?LSB?, Aug 10 at 0006, only pirate on band with
music, no carrier, and I can`t make the music resolve and sound right
stepping up and down around here in USB or LSB. But judging from many
more logs here, it was unID on 6917 USB including SSTV images:

** TURKEY [non]. 9830, Aug 9 at 2244, still no VOT, just weak China
into UTwente, as first noted the case at 2200 in previous report.

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2150 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday
August 9 at 2230 on WRMI 9955, S9/+5 into Maryland SDR and no Cuban
jamming; but by 2248 the jamming noise has cut on and building up to
2300 for R. Libertad. WOR remains more or less readable.

Also confirmed Tuesday August 9 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9+20/22 into
Maryland SDR; Midnite Cry, preceding preacher, still going at 2329.5
trying to give website when cut to WRMI ID.

Bandscanning later at 2358 I barely catch WOR also ending on 5950!
Must have also started at 2330. NOT scheduled, rather System L with
one-hour `Challenge` at 2300 M-F. No second receiver handy so can`t
check whether synchro with 9395 which is System G. Next:

1100 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035-USB or 3210-USB

UNIDENTIFIED. 9900, Aug 9 at 2351, S4/S6 direct, just barely
modulated, so I figure it`s Cairo, Portuguese for Brasil. But that
should have ended at 2330. Uplooked later, at this hour Cairo should
be on 9885 in Arabic, unchecked. Otherwise in EiBi, 9900 is now the
China/Taiwan radio war, CNR1 jamming from Beijing vs RTI (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
