Hauser
** CUBA. 6100, Nov 12 at 0707, RHC still on here, S9+15/20 but in
Spanish instead of English. 6060 English under humbuzz. 6165 English
S9+20/30 but undermodulated. 6000 & 5040 off. Something`s always wrong
at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9440, Nov 12 at 1553, extremely distorted and hum, music at
S7-S8 on UTwente SDR, tnx to tip from Alexander Busneag in Germany at
1545 that it`s R. Cairo in scheduled Albanian hour. This frequency was
discovered yesterday during the 2115 English broadcast, but totally
useless and with big noise spurs on the upper side then and now;
following someone at R. Cairo telling Peter Jones the day before that
they would be back on 9900.

Alex first posted at 1438 to the WOR iog: ``Radio Cairo went on air
today 12.Nov.2021 on 9440 kHz at 1418 UTC. Blank carrier with slight
hum. No modulation. By-products: terrible buzz on 9490 kHz, as well as
a less stronger buzz on 9530 kHz; both buzz signals jumping around +/-
10 kHz. (9440 kHz is scheduled in the HFCC database for the Radio
Cairo transmission in Albanian 1500-1600 UT)``.

FWIW, here`s the full registered sked for B-21:
http://hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=B21&broadc=ERU
which in fact does show 9440 but for the Albanian hour only; some
others all on 31m including 9900 for 2115-2245 English. All from Abis
site (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 17800.08V, Nov 12 at 1537, Minitransat yacht race special
from defective Issoudun transmitter, oscillating up and down roughly
17800.07 to 17800.09 kHz, music at S9 as must have finished marine
weather by now. S9 direct but SSOB, only a few other JBA carriers on
16mb. This is the last day registered for these broadcasts, but I
suppose could be extended if there be some laggards not yet reaching
finish line at Guadeloupe.

17795-17800-17805-DRM, Nov 12 at 1655 I`m tuned to Maryland remote for
the 1700 digital version of same. Dead until *1700 with a bit of
music, lo-fi French talk. It seems to cut off at 1701, but I soon
realize the Kiwi SDR has tuned away from 17800 as I think I am mousing
some other website, often an annoying problem with these. 1702 French
talk overmodulated OM voice with hectopascals and other weather info,
keeps mentioning Cuba. Parameters: SNR 22 dB; Chan 10 kHz; SDC 16 QAM;
MSC 64 QAM. Labeled IAAC (1000) Minitransat TDF EEP Data 8.08 kbps;
S7-S9, some buffering echoes, repeatedly saying English fonetix
``echo-november-echo``, I guess wind direxion inexplicable in French.
Fully English presumably later.

But not rechecked until 1738 when I find the player frozen at SNR 8.1;
refreshing, SNR 11+ but silent, and when it hits 12 starts to decode
intermittently, but 1746 music, 1748 medley including ``Always Love
You``, from ``Titanic`` Hope none of these hit icebergs. Off the air
around 1757* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH [non]. 7445, Nov 12 at 0712, YL pop song, S9+10/20,
language uncertain but 0714 talk in Korean. KBSWR to Europe now
scheduled this hour via Woofferton, UKOGBANI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2112 monitoring: confirmed first
SWBCs, UT Friday November 12 at 0130 on WRMIs: 5850 VG S9+30/40
direct, 7780 S9+20. Previous gospel huxter was still going when
chopped off for canned ID at 0129.5.

Also confirmed UT Fri Nov 12 at 0330 on WRMI 5985, but with
difficulty. Cuts on at *0329 with IS & ID, ``top of hour` loop, S8-S9
direct but VP to JBA. This is #14 at 181 degrees, but JBA to JBA
carriers to LAm SDRs in Querétaro, Trinidad, Brasil, Key West --- TWR
Bonaire has been missing for a week or more; hope they bring it back.
Despite azimuth, S8 sufficient into Kansas City SDR, and even better
S9+10 into St Louis area SDR. AM Narrow needed to avoid Cuban jamming
ACI from 5980. Next, fingers crossed that IRRS will air the full WOR
this week instead of half of it last week:

** VANUATU. 5040, Nov 12 at 0709, JBA carrier as CUBA is off unlike

** CUBA. 6000, Nov 11 at 0655, RHC English still on here an hour later
than during DST, S9+30 but suptorted. 6060 is S9+10 but English buried
under humbuzz. 6100 off. 6165 S9+20 undermodulated. 5040 best, S9+20
with normal modulation and in English. Some of these presumably stay
on until 0800 now. Wolfgang Bueschel says 6000 went off by 0702 and
5040 was back to Spanish. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7254.93, Nov 11 at 0658, VON drums and chant IS and off at

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, Wed Nov 10 at 1538 & 1615 chex, NO
LRA36 signal into three Brazilian SDRs, so is season over? Or possibly
finished before I tuned in. No other reports of it (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CHINA [non]. 5910, Nov 10 at 0335 S9+30 music as the CRI relay via
CUBA is back here for B-21, ex-9790 which was also extremely strong.
03-04 English & 04-05 Cantonese (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, Nov 10 at 2325, S9/+5 of dead air again from RHC
instead of French. Wake up! Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9900, Nov 10 at 2110-2120, NO signal of R. Cairo, at
UTwente; despite a note from someone at station to Peter Jones earlier
today, ``Hello.. try our frequency on short wave 9900 khz.. thank
you`` That`s the long dormant 2115 sesquihour in English to Europe;
and North America beyond (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Nov 10 at 2325, NO signal from REE for token
English to NAm, into Maryland remote. Ought to be biggest signal of
all if on; 11940 to SAm is S7-S9 but distorted; 11670 to Africa S8-S7
and noisy; best for us is backwards toward ME, 12030, S9+10/S8.
Something`s always nonsensical at Noblejas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

DX/SWL/MEDIA PROGRAMS
further updating as season develops, as of Nov 9:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxpgms.html

** CUBA. 6000, Nov 9 at 0040, RHC Spanish probably // 11950 but JBA
for `Mesa Redonda` TV audio; something`s always wrong at RHC; into MO
SDR where there is as yet nothing on 6165 or 6145; no detailed survey,
but NAm English now probably starts around 0100 on the two sixes.
Meanwhile, The Other Side:

``Will tourism return to Cuba, as the regime hopes? 'It is important
to remember that the tourism influx had already started to decline
before Covid-19.'
Roberto Álvarez Quiñones, Los Ángeles 08 Nov 2021 - 17:10 CET

Raúl Castro, his assistant Miguel Díaz-Canel and the entire Cuban
ruling mafia seem to believe that once the doors to international
tourism swing open on November 15, jubilant vacationers from all over
the world will travel en masse to the island.

They are wrong. They still have not grasped that July 11, 2021 marked
the beginning of the end of Castroism as we know it today. They do not
understand what is happening in the country, that its economic, social
and political crisis is already irreversible, and that they cannot
deal with it with the same bravado of half a century ago, without
paying a price, since they no longer have any political-ideological
capital...``
https://diariodecuba.com/cuba/1636387829_35403.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, Nov 9 at 2159, I make a point of hunting for RHC`s
second English broadcast of the day, expected to have shifted an hour
earlier to 2200-2300, and last known frequency 11880, but may be about
to change. NO signal. Until 2208 I bandscan the entire 15, 13, 11, 9
and 7 MHz bands and still find it nowhere, notably not on previously
used channels 13680, 11880, 9720, 7380. Recheck at 2229 still the same
situation. One more check at 2256: RHC English is just ending, JBA
with some signal cutsoffandon. So it came on sometime in past semihour
if not just now. Outro at 2300 as `Arts Roundup` of Hour 1, plug Hour
2 but it never follows right now. Tomorrow`s Hour 2 will include
mailbag. Then what? 11880 carrier stays on with dead air past 2325;
altho yesterday as I reported, that succeeded in Frenching.
Something`s always wrong at RHC.

Back to 2200, checking out Spanish frequencies: tarde sign on with the
same old set: tuned to 15370 first, which is very distorted and
splattering over a 30-kHz range; after a tail of choking Arabic at
2159. ``15370, 13740, 11760, 11850, 9535, 9710, 5040`` and they are
all heard at divergent levels of strength and modulation except 5040
unchecked. Notably, 11850 is JBM and suptorted, 13740 undermodulated,
9710 distorted, 9535 always weakest. BTW, no signals, yet? in any
languages on 15730, 15230, 11670. Something`s always wrong at RHC, X4
at least.

I knew it would be pointless, but for the record, then checking RHC
website for frequency schedules:
https://www.radiohc.cu/en/de-interes/frecuencias
where they are for B-*20*, starting 17 November 2020; they never even
got around to putting up A-21 schedules. Something`s always wrong at
RHC. That was the third Tuesday, 3+ weeks after B-20 really started,
and 2+ weeks after DST ended in Cuba running dog same date as Yanqui
Imperialism. So a similar pattern this year would mean a delay until
November 16 --- if ever. Until then maybe Arnie or someone be alert
for conflicts requiring adjustments, having refused to participate in
HFCC for fear of needing to negotiate with --- ugh --- Americans.

Someone recently asked me to explain why some SW stations are so lax
in keeping their own schedules accurate. I replied, who knows? but
perhaps a combination of bureaucracy, incompetence, low morale; to
which I should add: sabotage (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000 & 6165, Nov 10 at 0118, RHC English now on here,
somewhat undermodulated, better on 6165; during Chief Meterologist
weather for the Americas, the first evening hour to NAm now from 0100.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KASHMIR [non]. 15170, Tue Nov 9 at 1600, checking weekly Kashmir
Citivas via IRRS via Romania: UTwente is out of order so trying
various Kiwi SDRs: Kernow in SW UK has it S9 with a bit of English at
first then abnormally deep voice in Urdu/or/Kashmiri: is it slowed
down or processed, robotic? With understrumming.

Also a good chance to check how well K.C. reach nearest SDR to that
target: New Delhi: JBA carrier! Tsk2. At 1608 it`s fading out at UK.
At 1614 I back up to Kuwait where it`s still a night path but a couple
hours earlier than India: S9+5 at first with occasional English terms
uttered. But this too is fading out. I then check Cyprus but zero
signal there. At 1627-1629* music JBA at Kuwait. Kiwi map shows
terminator now leaves only Iberia and SW Ireland before sunset (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (7489.9v), UT Tue Nov 9 at 0030 after semi-repeat of `UBMP`
on WBCQ webcast, `Camp Constitution Radio` theme ditty and then insert
another commercial for something else, AshleyHomeStore.com, apparently
this week`s airtime sponsor. Never heard of it, something local? No,
even 3X in OKC, and website shows at least one store and in some
states many, in 48 states including AK & HI - so only two conterminous
must be missing but I have better things to do than figure out which.
It`s for far-right furniture customers (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 6160-, Nov 9 at 0037 check, zero signal of this WBCQ into
Missouri SDR. Believe it must be totally off the air as it was last
night for WORLD OF RADIO, because now on same remote the other BCQs:
4790 TOMBS S9/S7; 7490 minus 88 Hz = 7489.912 is S8-S6. 3265 also
zero.

On A61 webcast at 0000 had heard the Jean Shepherd theme starting.
This week`s content:
http://zappahead.net/#2021-1108-area61
Area 61 for 8-11 November 2021
Tune in Monday through Thursday at 7PM US eastern time on WBCQ 6.160
MHz. You can listen to us on the internet at
http://splatterbox.us/area51
I see that all open with a Shepherd show matching the same date in
various longago years, 1965, 1972, 1966, 1974.

6160-, Nov 9 at 2228, back on the air, VP with TOMBS. Note to editors:
please do not ``correct`` frequencies with a hyphen after them. I mean
it`s obviously off-frequency-minus, but without bothering to be
precise (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
