** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, Dec 8 at 1433, 1502, 1602 chex, NO signal from LRA36 into Brasil SDR this Wed, despite surprise showup Sat Dec 4 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA [and non]. LW propagation is good from Canada, Dec 8 at 0737-0745 UT, but local high noise level blox above 350 kHz, even 515 PN Ponca City OK, normally the strongest, becoming JBA. Perhaps those damn Xmas lites across the street which will probably be blazing for another month. But below 350 these are well copiable: 346 MCW kHz, Dec 8 at 0738 UT, dash and YXL, 500 watt ND beacon from Sioux Lookout, Ontario 335 MCW kHz, Dec 8 at 0738 UT, dash and YLD, 1000 watt NDB at Chapleau, Ontario 332 MCW kHz, Dec 8 at 0739 UT, dash and QT, 1000 watt NDB at Thunder Bay, Ontario; as usual well atop nearby IC Wichita KS, 400 watts 300 MCW kHz, Dec 8 at 0740 UT, dash and YIV, 500 watt NDB at Island Lake, Manitoba; seldom heard this one straddling LW and MW 284 MCW kHz, Dec 8 at 0742 UT, dash and QD, 500 watt NDB at The Pas, Manitoba 258 MCW kHz, Dec 8 at 0744 UT, dash and ZSJ, 1000 watt NDB at Sandy Lake, Ontario; only one on 258 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 9700, Dec 8 at 0745, S9+30 of dead air, obviously RHC English where something`s always wrong. [non] 9330, Dec 8 at 0746, no signal from Cuban Spy Numbers despite scheduling on Wednesdays this bihour, clear for WLCR/WBCQ S9+10. Obviously spy would be blasting if active as RHC 9700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Dec 8 at 2300, token English from REE, VG into Maryland SDR. Justin Coe says after news, feature will be interview with Steven Knight, keyboardist of a new Trans-Baroque group in Madrid; then Justin mispronounces Omicron as ``omnicron`` -- this happens a lot tho there is no such word. BTW, the first o is ``short``, not ``long``; that is why Greek has a separate Omega, which is long. Interview is by Gil Carbajal: does that mean a dredge from the archive or is he currently there? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [non]. 5960, Dec 8 at 2259, poor signal of BBCWS ID and off* as I am tuning in UTwente for a Turkey check, which never shows today. BBC sked 22-23 UT only via OMAN. By 2307 I`ve checked all 5 TRT frequencies supposed to quit at 2130 or 2200: not there either, 5970, 5980, 6120, 9610, 9625. The trouble is, nothing scheduled at 22-23, so sleepyrator(s) in deep REM don`t wake up before 2300. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. From *2310, Chinese owns 5960 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2115 monitoring: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, From the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees, reports: ``Dear Glenn: World of Radio #2115, confirmed, below with details, B 21 season, Keep Christ in Christmas, Year is winding down closing out 2021, Happy New Year 2022, Details: 5950, jamming noise, 2344 half way mark, 2342, 2351 (45433), (55433), 2359, Dec 3 UT 2021 [Fri] 5950, jamming, Utility radar, 0030, 0059 (55434), (55433), 0059, Dec 5 UT 2021 [Sun] 5950, QRN, also on 9955 kHz, 5950, 2330, 2344, 2359, 2359, 5950, Dec 5 UT 2021 [Sun] 9955, QSB fading, 2330, 2344 (55433), 2357, Dec 7 UT 2021 [Tue] 5850, 1030, 1044, 1059 (55433-4), 1059, Dec 8 UT 2021 [Wed] (Lemke, Richard -AB)`` Also confirmed here Wed Dec 8 at 1053 the 1030 on WRMI 5850, VG. Also confirmed Wed Dec 8 at 2200 on WBCQ 7490v, JBA on portable. Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW, 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html New WOR 2116 should be ready by early UT Fri Dec 10 for first airings at 0130 on WRMIs 5850, 7780 Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. Wednesday, December 08 2021
** EGYPT. 9899.58v, Dec 7 at 2106, no signal from R. Cairo into UTwente, again today like yesterday. Tho English starts at 2115, it`s normally been on air by 2100 if active. I don`t check again later, but Richard Langley, NB, reports, ``Just a weakish carrier today (7 December) on 9899.6 ± kHz when checked using the U. Twente SDR at about 2145 UT with no detectable modulation. Glenn: AMSync does lock in if you key in 9899.6 kHz rather than 9900 kHz -- Richard Langley`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ETHIOPIA [and non]. 15155-15160-15165, Dec 7 at 1527, DRM-like noise, but nonesuch scheduled; QRM from an AM understation JBA. Or vice versa! That`s Dimtse Woyane, 15-16 via FRANCE in TIGrinya, one of the clandestines which did not make it into last year`s WRTH 2021 with only two others under Ethiopia, and two under Eritrea. There should be a lot more in the 2022. I first noticed the edge of this on 15170 checking for Kashmir non. The `DRM` is obviously jamming by Ethiopia. Via Carlow, Eire, SDR I try 15160 in DRM. Nothing decodes. 15160 direct at 1554 bears some weak music with not much jamming. It`s questionable how effective this Djamming could be in Ethiopia, if transmitted from there, due to skip zone. Could this be contracted out to some other country at a favorable one-hop skip distance? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KASHMIR [non]. 15170, Tue Dec 7 at 1525, just in case I am checking whether Kashmir Civitas be still on air after two weeks absence since last heard Nov 9 after 1600. Had been one real UT hour earlier at 1500, while Europe was on DST, nonsensically changed to 1600 UT in November. No, it`s not, checked via UTwente; and not at 1607 recheck either. However found something interesting nearby, see ETHIOPIA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, Dec 7 at 2304, NO signal from VOT English into UTwente; something`s always erroneous at Emirler. But before I tune out, it chops ON S9+10 at *2307 during Turkish music, then chop to proper feed in English during news. Soon press review and 2312 the COVID-19 PSA. None earlier but now I also hear an understation, CCCCCCI = ChiCom Chinese language co-channel interference. In fact, EiBi shows that PBS Xinjiang, Urumqi, East Turkistan, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs and other Moslems, does start at the odd time of *2310 on 5960. After music break, another feature starts at 2318, something about science fixion novels, but by the YL announcer with very heavy accent, and I give up trying to follow her. Sorry, but you need better language skills to be an international broadcaster. When 2300 English be missing from 5960, check previously scheduled frequencies for a transmitter overrun, which the sloppyrators accomplish all too frequently at other times. HFCC shows supposed to stop by 2130 are 9610, 9625 and 5970; until 2200 on 5980, 6120. But wait, there`s more: rechecking 5960 at UTwente, Dec 8 at 0005, just Chinese but VOT chops back on in German! The bonus broadcast following English, which is not supposed to be on SW at all. It`s S9+20 and +16 Hz offset. 0014 still going with Türkisch musik, surged to S9+45! 0015 pronouncing the TRTWorld website, and a feature for Reisenden. Not closely monitored but I think German lasted most of the hour; only Chinese by 0105. Of course, if extra German ever happen on UT Sunday it will collide with The Mighty KBC, which must enjoy taking such risks, B-season after season (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2115 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday December 7 at 2330 on WRMI 9955, VG S9+10/15 into KB0FX SDR in MO and no jamming audible; but by 0003 Dec 8 has faded completely out, probably earlier, leaving only some weak jamming to be heard. 9395 WRMI has also vanished by now. Next: 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW, 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. ** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB -- regarding the surprise showup of LRA36 on Saturday December 4, Manuel Méndez, who monitors it closely directly into Spain, writes me (in my translation):
I was surprised to find it on the air so late in the season, since I believed they would have finished for this year. In fact, they have not replied via Whatsapp since about September 20 and left a pile of reception reports unanswered, despite having said they would be sending QSLs. So this year`s crew left a lot to be desired in listener contact, nor did they produce a farewell program. I think that what happened last Saturday was a somewhat bored operator, who decided to turn it on and put out a pre-recorded program. I heard it for only 10 minutes, closing at 1555. We`ll have to be attentive on Wednesday, since I imagine this far into December they will be packing their bags to return to Argentine mainland. We hope that next year the four women taking over the station will be more dedicated to their work. Cordial greetings, Manuel Mendez`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ARGENTINA. 10000, LOL: Horacio Nigro, who tipped us about the expanded eclipse schedule on Dec 4, has this extensive story about the history of LOL and latest developments; in Spanish: https://lagalenadelsur.wordpress.com/2021/12/04/argentina-lol-observatorio-naval-la-estacion-horaria-y-de-frecuencia-patron-estandar/ (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 7340, Dec 6 at 1542, RHC back on 40m in the mornings, S9 but noisy by now, // 15140, 15230, 13700, 11760, but apparently not in the tardes. Another change from the ``official`` B21 sked. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT [non]. 9900v, Dec 6 at 2158, no signal from R. Cairo into UTwente, but at *2200 a JBA carrier, occasionally locking at .000. Someone reported that`s a CNR1 jammer on early to block Taiwan from *2230. Indeed at 2238 direct I have JBA Chinese. Alan Holder, Isle of Wight says Cairo was on air in English Dec 3-4-5 with great variations in modulation from day to day (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Mon Dec 6 at 2314, VOT English is S9+30 into UTwente, and VG modulation except for lite humbuzz, and a bit of CCI, Chinese? At this hour after press review, a feature on coping with dandruff! I suspect in my 64 years of SWL, that`s a first. Until 2320 in the `Feeling Supreme` show, or is it `Healing`? After music break, next show at 2325 is `New Day, New Choices` about coffee and whether children should drink it. ``Turkish`` coffee originated in Yemen (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2115 monitoring: after NEXUS/IBA ID, confirmed Sunday December 5 at 2100 on IRRS via AM Italia, 918 kHz, S9+20, lite CCI into Noale SDR. Also confirmed Sunday December 5 at 2344 the 2330 on WRMIs: into ATS 909 portable, good on 5950, fair on 9955. Should have checked 4980. Also confirmed UT Monday December 6 at 0046 the 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG direct. Also confirmed UT Monday December 6 at 0148 the 0130 on WRMI 9395, poor direct on ATS-909. Also confirmed UT Monday December 6 at 0240 the 0230 on WRN North America webcast. Also confirmed UT Monday December 6 at 0400 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160-, no signal into MO SDR but S4-S5 vs storm crashes into Maryland, -54 Hz offset = 6159.946. Next: 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?] 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW, 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. Thanks this week to Doug Brown, London, Ontario for a generous US$ cheque on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 and comments, ``Thanks for another year of great information and DX tips.``One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [non]. 9455, Dec 6 at 1550, JBA carrier, not WRMI-5 which has been missing over a week. At 15-16 it would be CRI Chinese via Kunming; 16-17 & 19-22 jamming RFA Chinese (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5950, Mon Dec 6 at 2304, APS Radio ID and jingle, rock music, new show on WRMI M-F at 23-24, in System L sked as 5950 only, but I forgot to check whether // 4980 which in the transmission sked is also shown as Sys L for that hour: and last Friday lacking APS yet, WORLD OF RADIO was on both; and could still be so on Sundays. Nothing about APS Radio yet on WRMI Programming page, and only a brief item on disgraced FB that it was supposed to start Nov 29. A broad search reminds us that APS Radio has been on WRMI before at totally different times starting 2019y. I don`t find any website for itself, nor what APS denote (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 9330, UT Monday December 6 at 0703, Cuban spy numbers are blasting in S9+10/20 with mixture of YL speech and uteblaaps, but I can detect the 500? kW WBCQ-6 SuperStition underneath, so certainly not taking turns on 9330. BTW the WLCR language schedule has changed; now it`s English at 06-09 at 225 degrees for east North America, and not far from thisaway but totally blocked by 250? kW from Cuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (7490v), UT Tue Dec 7 at 0030, after semi-repeat of `UBMP`, WBCQ starts `Camp Constitution Radio` with its theme notes, then an ad/PSA? for St. Jude`s with Jen Anniston & Marlo Thomas, before CCR starts --- this week`s ``sponsor``? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 3360, UT Mon Dec 6 after 0200, WWRB quickly reconfirmed on new frequency, but by 0410 no signal to MO SDR. Will be off again until UT Sunday at 0200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1130, Dec 6 at 1551 UT, KLEY Wellington KS still S9 of dead air all day and all night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1600, Dec 6 at 2015 UT on caradio, Americana from KUSH Cushing OK already has skywave QRM in Vietnamese from KRVA The Metroolex TX. By 2050 KRVA has overcome. Hard to believe its day pattern of E/WSW lobes has a minimum thisaway to the NNW, if not a deep null, but it`s 25 kW to start with (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) A few weeks around Winter Solstice some skywave can last all day. Need to do a low-noon bandscan from a quiet spot circa local mean noon = 1832 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VATICAN. 11935, Dec 6 at 1548, S1-S3 in unknown language but the strongest extracontinental signal on band. Aoki shows Vatican Radio in Amharic at 1530, switching at 1600-1700 to Madagascar in Swahili/Somali/English, back to CVA 1700-1800 in French, Tigrinya (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1470, Dec 6 for several minutes before and after 0700 UT, again I`m seeking the Mexmx, this time not only on the E-W longwire, but on the rotatable DX-398 to try to DF it --- but no sign of anything dominant nor any such non-English programming. Either very different propagation conditions, or what I heard was an anomalous transmission. Both the IA and MN SS stations are supposedly direxional northward both day and night, altho with very minor southward lobes at night; and a lot more night power from MN than IA. Immediately replying to my original report: Wayne Heinen N0POH, Editor, NRC AM Radio Log, Aurora, CO: ``Glenn, A very likely source of SS:MEX programming on 1470 is XERCN in Tijuana, a very frequent catch here in Colorado. 73`` I considered that, but it`s not at all frequent here. Non-direxional day and night; per WRTH 2021, ``10/5 kW, RCN/Uniradio 14-70, (r. CRI 12h)`` which I guess means relays China Radio International, 12 hours per day? Is that still the case, in English? The 2021-2022 IRCA Mexican Log does not mention CRI and shows 1470 XERCN format as Talk/Catholic - not music (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0252 UT December 7
