** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Feb 4 not tuned in until 1514 via Argentine remote, S7/S9 rap in Spanish, 1516 more songs. Seems I did not miss much as Dan Robinson says they cut on at *1511. Finally 1529 s/on, multi-lingual disclaimer, ``siempre mirando al sur, desde Patagonia``; scripted piece about ``malvinazando`` which is the theme of this transmission, somehow linking today in Antarctica with the war 40+ years ago over Falklands: are they implying that Esperanza will be defended militarily should the Brits invade?!
BTW neither today nor recently have they played the ``Antártida`` themesong as part of the opening, that we enjoyed so much; why not? 1534 live opening, says lots of people in the studio, staff name credits, hosted by Juan Benavente, and welcoming YL Carla Calzado. This is the only Argentine station on SW, on either continent. Greeting to Jujuy and Neuquén. Carla gives the weather: +7 C, wind chill +3, SE at 27 kph, partly cloudy. Talking about flights expected. (At this time for the record I check for any trace of a signal direct: none!). 1537 announcer for `Panorama de Noticias`, Marcelo, has conducted more than 35 interviews and plans to continue originating from here at 6 am M-F until 10th of Feb, and then move to Marambio base. Connexion to Bs As is via T-line; does that mean undersea cable? No. 1545 Carla with contact info. 1547 again about Malvinazar. 1551 IDs, ``comunicad``. 1552 ``Uniendo Voces`` program title/theme; contact info again; interview an Alejandro; contact info again; saludos; same wx info again. Trying to make phone contact with Claudio, failing time and again. 1616 says all their communication is via a satellite. 1617 about ham contacts yesterday on 20m and 10m with USA, Europe as well as Argentina. 1618 whatsapp number again by Carla, rock music. 1622 RAE AAM multi-lingual ID. 1624 contact info yet again by Carla for Uniendo Voces. Interview with Daniel Marchi, veteran of Malvinas, finally connecting 1630 after fourth? try, ``hola, hola, hola``, ``cambio?``. Again about Malvinazar. Weather again. Long discussion as my ears are glazing over by now. 1659 seems to finish, rock music; 1700 RNASG and RAE IDs, Carla with contact info, saludos. 1717 music only whenever checked; some of the rock seems in English. I daresay much music has nothing to do with Antarctica or even Argentina; why bother? Also music only at 1800, 1857 past 1944 tho the repeat was supposed to start at 1900? No, it`s 2000, Horacio Nigro has just found out. Also this additional info via him earlier at 0159 UT Feb 4 to WOR iog: ``[WOR] More about LRA36 (relaying news as soon as they evolve from source) --- New broadcast of the special summer program broadcast season “Uniendo Voces” on LRA 36 “Radio Nacional Arcángel San Gabriel” – Radio Argentina al Exterior (RAE). SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4 – 12:00 HS LOCAL ARGENTINA (15:00 UTC) with repetition at 16:00 local time (19:00 UTC). (NOTE: This would possibly be the last broadcast before the 1 kW arrives at the Base). The Antarctic radio station at Base Esperanza will broadcast a new program from RAE's special summer cycle “Uniendo Voces”. During the program, the following people will be interviewed: Dr. Claudio Parica, a prestigious geologist with a great Antarctic career; Malvinas (a.k.a Falklands --HAN) and Antarctic war veteran Daniel Marchi, as well as music from our country, cultural information about Argentine Antarctic bases, and activities carried out during the 2023 Summer Antarctic Campaign. Staff: LRA 36 Director: Lieutenant Colonel Gustavo Cordero Scandolo Production: Juan C. Benavente, Alejandro Álvarez, Alejandro Petrecca, Carla Calzado. Technical operation: Nicole Valdebenito. General Coordination: Adrián Korol – RAE – Radio Argentina Abroad Production: Joint Antarctic Command, Argentine National Radio and the “Uniendo Voces” project of the National University of Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina. To listen to the program: Short wave, at the frequency of 15.476 KHz. USB Local FM (Hope Base) 96.7 MHz. Internet: www.rae.com.ar https://sa.mp3.icecast.magma.edge-access.net/sc_rad35 www.radionacional.com.ar entering "Emisoras – Antártida. ---- As always, for this series of latest news, they come through from Adrian Korol, RAE, Argentina, via Whatsapp, translated and edited by Horacio Nigro, [alas, non native English speaker] Montevideo, Uruguay, Feb. 3, 2023). -- Horacio Nigro, CX3BZ, "La Galena del Sur", Montevideo, Uruguay`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846, Feb 4 at 0715 UT, JJBBA carrier here but no other 9/kHz splits, presumed R. Kiribati (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 6125, Feb 4 at 0451, VOT S9+8/18 into Maryland SDR with multi-lingual ID filler reel, 0453 s/off still claiming to be the 1330 broadcast on 12035 -- NOT!, 0454 IS briefly and off. I could avoid the timeclash with Spain at 2300 by hearing VOT at 0400 on 6125, final repeat of previous day, but there are more shows elsewhere with higher priority (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5130, UT Sat Feb 4 at 0056, WBCQ Radio Angela with IS & ID loop, prior to early opening to carry `AAAWWW`; into Maryland SDR reading +15 Hz = 5130.015. The others: 7490 -41 Hz = 7489.959; 6160 -64 Hz = 6159.936. 3265+ no signal. Soon WTO theme is playing, but then obviously a pre-Xmas show replay, date announced as Dec 23. Never mind. Twit earlier on Friday had claimed: ``Allan Weiner @AllanWBCQ · Feb 3 Friday, very important show on Angela & Allan Worldwide about the future of our world.`` But later circa 0230 UT: ``Allan Weiner @AllanWBCQ · 15h Sorry, no live show tonight. -22 below 0. 40 mph winds. Power bumps dumping the transmitters and internet. Where the heck is all that global warming they keep talking about? Stay warm.`` It seems WBCQ`s nickname as ``The Planet`` is a bit exaggerated. To state the obvious?: Global warming takes into account average temps over the whole planet, including the oceans, bad news for many species accustomed to cooler water; and icecaps, glaciers, very obviously shrinking. That`s what Global means. Certainly there will still be cold spells here and there, duh (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2176 monitoring: confirmed UT Saturday February 4 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+10/20 into Missouri SDR, also VG direct aimed thisaway. Thanks this week to Moises J. Corilloclla Escajadillo, Rego Park NY, formerly of Perú, for a check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid, OK 73702 One may also contribute via Pay Pal, not necessarily in US funds to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9975, UT Sat Feb 4 at 0304 and later, no signal from KVOH. Nor can I get their webcast to play, which is supposedly running all the time. Since cutbax a few months ago, SW has been sked 0100-0600 UT Sat/Sun/Mon only and still such at: https://www.voiceofhope.com/schedule/kvoh_program_grid.pdf but dated as of 2 Dec 2022. It was also reported missing the weekend of Jan 21, by Kenneth Vito Zichi, Michigan: ``***9975 KVOH not noted at all this weekend. Are they well and truly off the air? ****`` My inquiries to Ray Robinson have not been answered. Of course much of California has been subject to Acts Of God, wildfires, flooding, mudslides, etc., so how is it around Chatsworth Peak or KVOH studios? Then I ask Jeff White: ``I believe they are waiting for some parts. Hello from Tunis``. HFCC website says: ``The A23 Global Coordination Conference will be held from 5 to 9 February 2023 in Tunisia`` --- that`s odd as there has been no SWBC from Tunisia for years. Does anyone remember when they quit? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, Feb 4 at 0708, JBA carrier here but none on 7890 or 11835, so suspect R. Vanuatu has stayed on 7260 instead of 3945 plus harmonix after 0659 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1954 UT February 4 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Saturday, February 04 2023
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Fri Feb 3 at 1958, another short-notice test by LRA36, already on with songs, S5/S8 into Argentine SDR. All 4 RX are tied up with this so I camp at first on the one tuned to this exact frequency. More rock past hourtop, 2008 finally Morse code and voice s/on, multi-lingual announcement, brief scripted intro about ham radio = radioafición; something about 1927y, ``la radio viva en la Antártida``; 2011 song; 2012 ``Uniendo Voces`` joint produxion with RAE and a university name I can`t catch. Juan has two guests both named Alejandro, and Nicola/Nicole? also mentioned as technician.
2015 contact info; chat about bases. 2029 rock music break. 2033 ``Su cía`` ID, Radio Nacional with `Panorama Nacional` originating here on network, M-F 6-7 [later implies in the morning] during January. 2034 about soberanía, RAE produxion. 2035 weather currently on the plus side, 8.5C, windchill 4.8; winds W 30 gusting to 45 kph, and partly cloudy. Contact info, two Alejandros, who are updating equipment, ultimately to use more frequencies on augmented schedule. 2040 interview about veterans. 2057 ID, contacto info. 2058 closing, modernization to be completed by *next* summer. 2101 songs only keep playing past 2123. Walt Salmaniw was barely hearing this direct in BC for first time in a long time; Bruce Churchill finds good reception via remote in Iceland - which is an all-oceanic trans-Atlantic path. I continue to know I`m never going to hear it direct again until upgrade so don`t even try. I guess will be on again Saturday at regular time 1500, maybe 1900 too? Horacio Nigro, who has been tipping the WOR iog about upcoming LRA36 specials, adds this: ``Evidently the primary adjustment work to the transmitter has improved low modulation issue. Today news via Adrian Korol add this additional information: From Radio Nacional Resistencia they are sending by land a repaired 1 kW Collins HF80 to Base El Palomar and then flying it in a Hercules aircraft to Antarctic Base Marambio and from there by helicopter to Esperanza. If everything goes well they will be loading it from the heliport in the Unimog and we will lower it with the Arcangel San Gabriel bobcat to the radio with the purpose of leaving that 1 KW transmitter until next summer when we will have a new solid 10 KW. Much better reception in Chile and the southern America area reported today. Horacio Nigro CX3BZ Uruguay`` And Andy Robins adds at 2347 Feb 3: ``Argentine Antarctic ARO Station on 20 Meters --- LU1ZV at Base Esperanza in Antarctica (the same QTH as SWBC station LRA36 on 15476 kHz) is fair level on 14282 kHz at 2335 UTC on February 3. Working stations, mostly in the U.S. "by the numbers" (by the number in their callsigns) and "split," listening "five up" on 14287 kHz, to alleviate the QRM. 73, Andy Robins KE8TEN, Kalamazoo, Michigan USA, Icom IC-7300 and ZS6BKW multiband dipole at 35'`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. Re my DauphiN MB beacon log in last report: ``Glenn, Beacon DN-224 is not scheduled to be decommissioned until April 20, 2023 as part of Phase 9, according to the NAV CANADA website. About a dozen DX’ers heard it this past weekend during a coordinated listening event. The NDB list at the dxinfocentre.com website is in error. Steve Howe, Saint Albans, VT`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Feb 3 at 1614, RHC missing, but still on 11760, and no more extra frequencies on 13 or 15 MHz bands. 15140 back on after 1930 in Kriyol. Meanwhile circa 1615, many weak JBA signals on 11 & 15 MHz have Doppler flutter, disturbed hi-latitude paths. Yet WWV reports ``no spaceweather storms`` while K-index went up from 2.0 at 15 UT to 3.33 at 18; that`s all it takes. The Other Side: ``Cuba, prostituted, between London and Moscow --- Castroism is now accelerating the transition from a supposedly socialist dictatorship to a supposedly capitalist one, with Russian counsel and control. Rafaela Cruz La Habana 31 Ene 2023 - 18:46 CET [caption:] Miguel Diaz-Canel speaks at the Russian Duma in November 2022. AP The fact that Castroism would like to adopt the "Russian model" is obvious, as it seems to constitute a stable formula mixing a largely liberalized economy with discreetly privatized strategic state sectors, such as Banking, Communications and heavy and extractive industries, all under a dictatorial government that is only technically accountable, having legal mechanisms to concentrate and perpetuate itself in power. Cuba, however, lacks what renders the Russian model viable: a productive sector (in Russia, hydrocarbons) providing the Government with sufficient revenue so that it can, without losing power, liberate the rest of the economy while having resources to cover every dictatorship's overhead: propaganda, repression, bureaucracy and loot to give out to avert power struggles in the leadership...`` https://diariodecuba.com/economia/1675187210_44943.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Feb 3 at 2306, token English from RE, VG S9+20/25 into Maryland SDR, which also thinx I`m in Pflugerville despite the power outages around Austin; also sufficient on weaker 11940 for S America, but absent from 12030 for ME: instead weak on 11685 for Africa - not 11670. That had been missing for weeks; now it`s the ME`s turn to be overlooked? One of the four Noblejas transmitters must be down; something`s nonfunxional. After news, about sustainability? No it`s interview with author of an article in El País about the Brazilian insurrexion, with inevitable comparisons to Jan 6 in USA. But I`m mainly monitoring Turkey, q.v. Ken Zichi, Michigan, for months has been posting greatly detailed logs of the content of Spain`s English, in the MARE Tipsheet and WOR iogroup, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.015, Feb 3 at 2306, VOT English, VG S9+25/35 into UTwente. After SPAIN, q.v., 2315 retune as theme to `Feeling Supreme/The Healing Spring` is ending. Now the XJPBS CCCCCCI understation is audible but way down. 2316 `Did You Know That?` about 1/4 of Turkey`s honey produxion coming from Muğla province, where there are orchards and beekeeping, especially pine honey which has high mineral content. Note the curve over the g which means it sounds like a W just like Erdoğan, but in this case it`s virtually silent, ``Moo-lah``. That`s the 48th of 81 provinces in Wikipedia`s alfabetical list; in the SW corner on the Aegean, probably with the mildest climate north of the TRNC. BTW I can`t recall VOT ever mentioning Cyprus. 2323, `Weekly Analysis`, ``special program: Turkey`s defense industry continues to shine like a star``, in 2022y, i.e. weapons of destruxion. 2328 music break; 2339 multi-lingual ID filler reel; 2341 more songs; 2351 multi-lingual ID filler reel again! 2353 s/off as if this were only the 1330 broadcast on 12035 --- NOT! Something`s always erroneous at Emirler and/or awry at Ankara. 2354 IS plays a bit and shortly off* uncovering Chinese on 5960.000 from EAST TURKISTAN, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uighurs and other Moslems. At first there seems to be another weak carrier along with it: now I`m thinking it may be the exciter from Emirler staying on a little longer than the bigsig (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2176 monitoring: confirmed first SWBC, UT Friday February 3 at 0340 the 0330 on WRMI 7780, JBA S6/S7 direct but VG S9+5/12 into Maurice, Louisiana SDR, where BTW it thinx this User is in Pflugerville TX! I`m also frequently misplaced into Amarillo TX, as for weather info. Must be a lot of confusion about IP numbers. Or maybe my connexion is being routed thru theres? Pflugerville is a little-known suburb of Austin, 46K almost as massive as Enid. Not confirmed Friday February 3 at 1530 on WRMI 9955: tuned in at 1521 just in time to hear some Blalock between blasts, S9 but promptly turned off at 1522*. WOR still on the webcast, however. Also confirmed Friday February 3 at 2130 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 only, VG S9+10/20 into nearby Noale SDR, after tune-in to Irish music show at 2128, cut off at 2130 for ID and WOR.
