Logs
** BELIZE. 29258 CW, Sept 25 at 2203, ten E`s and VVV DE V31HQ/B. WGB
list: ``28258 V31HQ/B - Belmopan BLZ EK57nf - #0 (25 Apr 2024) Note:
VVV ID + grid + E × 10 - Pwr 10w`` - previously heard April 1 & May 1,
qq.vv. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BRAZIL. 28270.5 CW, Sept 25 at 2205, VVV PY4MAB, dash. Beacon
previously heard Sept 18, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN. 6055 & 6115, Sept 25 at 0642, JBA carriers, no doubt R.
Nikkei 1 & 2.  LSS is finally early enough, 0833 UT to start
propagating them during my habitual bedtime monitoring window from
~0630 even tho two hours earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO [and non]. 800, Sept 25 at 0709 UT, KQCV OKC again with
extremely distorted musiQRM, no doubt XEERG NL as I previously
discovered. How I accomplished that was totally deleted by the IRCA
DXWW editor, yet there were complaints about my explaining such things
in a Forum! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 11514.9, Sept 25 at 0054, JBA carrier no doubt from
Hikari FM, pirate. Apparently still called that per other loggers
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 13 & virtual 13-1 & 13-2, Sept 24 at 2320-2340 UT,
KETA OKC, OETA suddenly loses feed from PBS including `Newshour` on
13-1. Exactly when OKC is getting hit by a hailstorm. After some black
screens, Tech Difficulties slide. I imagine their satellite dish full
of hailstones! Simultaneously the commercial stations are in full
coverage of the storm, especially KOCO ``5`` RF7, which was showing
the axual hail hitting the ground, cars, etc. Warning of up to
baseball-size. They had dumped out of ABC News circa 2250 UT before it
was finished. KFOR ``4`` RF 27 pre-empted its regular 6 pm newscast
for this. Normally it replays at 0535 UT, but on Sept 25 they replayed
NBC Eveningly News instead. None of this hail bothered Enid (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed Sept 25 at 2200, token English from SNR is S9/+10
with flutter direct, as well as on SAm frequency which axually sounds
better. 15520 S9/+10 no worse despite oppositely; and 15390 still
AWOL. Something`s notright at Noblejas. Not really listenable (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.006, Sept 25 at 2157, VOT IS and English IDs,
S9+10/20 direct but heavy flutter. 2200 accurate TS and s/on as if
it`s 1230 on 17620. By 2221 into UTwente when measured, S9+45/50 VG
with no flutter, Efsun the axentuated about sports, tennis, until 2222
outro as `Unexpected Twists of Fate`, music. 2227 `The Middle East and
Turkey`, about reducing dependence on Russia for energy. 2253
headlines, s/off still pretending it`s on 17620, something`s always
awry at Ankara; a few notes of IS until chop by 2254*, no finesse,
something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. ND beacon bandscan, Sept 25 at 0655 UT, JBA but
enough to copy the MCW calls u.o.s.:
255, SW, StillWater OK
293, FBY, FairBurY NE
305, RO, ROswell NM
329, PMV, PlattsMouth NE
332, IC, wIChita KS
334, ? carrier, only 3 listed in NAm, IL, MS, ON, none familiar
338, ? carrier, maybe RYN Tucson AZ, or TU TUlsa OK
346, YXL and dash, SiouX Lookout ON
353, LI, LIttle Rock AR
395, CA, Newton/Harvs KS
407, HRU, HeRington KS, also audible at 404 USB
515, PN, PoNca City OK
I would really like to hear some new ones (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28201 CW, Sept 25 at 2202, 20 T`s or short dashes, and long
pauses, i.e. the pattern of N4WLO, Theodore AL as previously reported,
WGB listed at 28200.5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2261 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday
September 24 at 2338 the 2330 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.002,
S8/S9 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Tuesday September 24 at 2339 the 2330 on WRMI 9395,
S9/+10 into Peoria IL SDR.

Also confirmed Wednesday September 24 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 6160.000, S9+10 into UTwente; // 3975 not checked.

Also confirmed Wednesday September 24 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490 - 67 Hz,
S9+5 into Maryland SDR. Also checked UTwente at 2053 to find WBCQ JBA
but locked in at 7489.932. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

As a non-commercial service, voluntary financial support appreciated.
Thanks this week for a generous seasonal contribution for autumn from
Gerald T. Pollard, Raleigh NC, by check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser,
P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702.

One may also contribute via PayPal in US funds but not necessarily to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 660, Sept 25 at 0707, Navajo chanting and drumming, i.e.
KTNN AZ again on ND day pattern; same time, 650 WSM Nashville
inaudible; in a fade? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 620, Sept 25 at 0705 UT, béisbol game in English,
presumably a clip rather than live, and no sign of Spanish KTNO Plano
TX, the closest and normally dominant, off? The closest sportstalk
formats are: KTAR AZ most likely; KMNS IA; WDAE FL. KTNO was
originally KWFT Wichita Falls until hijacked into The Metroplex (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** CUBA. 5025, Sept 24 at 0700, R. Rebelde not dead air but children`s
chorus, not anthem, and JBA // on MW 1620. Something`s not always
wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 9790, Sept 24 at 0651, S9/+20 dead air but trace of
modulation: surely CRI relay transmitter until 0500 failed to turn
off, blowing away RFI in French at 0600-0700, which is normally
audible without the Cublock. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba.
6000 also still on (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Sept 24 at 0657, S9+15/25 of dead air as RHC has failed
to turn off transmitter earlier. Something`s always wrong at RHC. See
also 9790 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.005, Sept 24 at 2220 check direct, VOT English not
off the air. Into UTwente at 2247 when measured, S9+45/50 ending
`Turkey`s Geomarked Products`, music. 2252 ``with-you-every-hour``
promo. 2253 s/off the 1230 on 17620. Something`s always awry at
Ankara. 2253 IS briefly to 2253.7* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2261 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday September 24 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9+20/30 but noisy direct,
after ``Everglades`` ID. Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;

** U S A. 9475 WTWW: George McClintock replied to my report of spurs
at 0315 Sept 24: ``Glenn, I had very bad transmitter problems. Just
got 5085 on just a few hours ago. #1 transmitter also has problems. 2
transmitters off air at the same time. George McClintock 9-23-2024``.
9475 was off again Sept 24 at 2220 check, but on at 2307 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1060, Sept 24 at 0703 UT, traffic report mentioning
Delaware, weather, must be 50 kW KYW Philadelphia atop the channel;
yes, then into ``final hour of Sports Philadelphia``. Not often heard;
day and night patterns with NW/SE lobes and supposedly null thisaway!
per NRC Pattern Book. Radio-locator
https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KYW&service=AM
is similar but not a deep notch hereto.

1070, Sept 24 at 0705 UT, traffic report on the 101 freeway,
Hollywood, got to be ND 50 kW KNX Los Ángeles. Neat to be getting
coast-to-coast MW simultaneously on adjacent frequencies with 1060 KYW
Philadelphia. Total apartness 3843 km = 2388 miles. Still that
annoying LAH = low audible heterodyne from always off-frequency KFTI
Wichita. MWoffsets shows it 22 Hz low (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1130, Sept 24 at 0709 UT, KLEY ID immediately upon tunein,
Wellington KS mixing with KWKH, which obviously doesn`t care about its
protracted violation with 250 watt day power instead of 1 watt nights,
which means we can`t call it a ``daytimer``, strictly speaking. 1 watt
at night not even covers its country, let alone rimshotting Wichita:
https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KLEY&service=AM&h=N&z=o
but slightly pulled in SSEward as if ``protecting`` KWKH also in
daytime. And KLEY certainly not trying to hide itself. Not that I
really care vs stupid sportstalk; except for following the rules
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1550, Sept 24 at 1913 UT, ``The Bluegrass Express`` slogan
confirmed as listed for KKLE Winfield KS. Mobile at Great Salt Plains
NWR, NW of Enid. Is sibling station of 1130 KLEY.

1400, Sept 24 at 1914 UT, ``Your Country, KEYE`` is the dominant 1400
station at midday on caradio, visiting artesia near Great Salt Plains
OK. Perryton TX, in the NE Panhandle, not one I could get on
groundwave back in Enid. I used to have some relatives there; it was
tornadoed June 15, 2023 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 12195, Sept 24 at 0655, still mystery open carrier,
S7/S9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs September 22-23-24, 2024  View Printable Version
Tuesday, September 24 2024

Logs
** CANADA [non]. 11990, Pop Shop Radio via Woofferton, 0300 UT Sept
10, QSL card in pmail received Sept 21, with enclosures: schedule, two
logo stickers, Maple Leaf cutout bearing a bear and ``Hope BC``; round
fabric Maple Leaf patch as on flag. Very nicely done (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** GERMANY. 7390, Sept 23 at 0458-0500* direct, jazz until cutoff with
no announcement; whatsit? EiBi: AWR in French to N Africa via Nauen at
0430 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Mon Sept 23 at 2200, token English from SNR, VG
S9+30/40 direct, also on 17715 and 15520, never on 15390. News leads
with UN SG calling for change in its struxure; no time to listen more
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 9875.003+, Sunday Sept 22 at 2040, I`m QRX for
VOT `Letterbox` now instead of waiting until a sesquihour later on
11785, which may or may not be on air, and conflicting with a lot of
other programming I want to get. This transmission is 500 kW at 105
degrees for India, SE Asia, Australia, NZ, but plenty backward signal
into UTwente, S9+15/25 atop some CCI which would be North Korea,
should be avoided. At 2045 ends sports, ``always-by-your-side`` promo
and `Weekly Analysis` by John ``Adja`` sounds like, a foreign policy
researcher, about pagers as weapons. 2050 music. 2057
``with-you-every-hour`` promo and `Letterbox`: Halil  is ``not that
well, voice not much good``, he apologizes but sounds OK to me. 1)
Siddartha ---, India, reception report from a regular. 2) USA, John
Fryberg? Jr., New Hampshire. Now at 2050 the CCI relents, as VOK stops
aiming at ME, but resumes at 2100 toward FE, much weaker. 3) Roman
Steiner, Germany; or Norman? 4) Roberto Brizzo? or Guizzo?, Italy. 5)
Mr. Markey?, India. 6) André/Anatoly Klepov, Moskva, another regular
QSL seeker. 7) Carlo Giordani, Italy. By 2106, time`s up, ``Goodbye,
my lovely dear listeners, goodbye``. 2107 music and I tune out (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 11785.005, Sunday Sept 22 at 2159, VOT not off
air but S9+50/55 into UTwente, 2200 ~correct timesig and open English,
but I don`t need to keep listening since I got `Letterbox` a
sesquihour earlier on 9875, q.v. However, I check UTwente again for
s/off, but it`s still going at 2259, 2300 timesig, and German, which
continues the entire hour! as not scheduled, with the same program
themes we hear in English, such as at 2334 for ``Warum?`` At 2356 IS
still playing with Portuguese! IDs, but cutoff 2359* before another
extraneous language. EiBi shows PP at 00-01 and SS at 01-02 are
supposed to be on 9870. Just as well, because at *0000 Chinese on
11785.000 as the ChiCom achieve better frequency accuracy, much weaker
than TRT had been. EiBi shows CRI Mandarin at 00-13 via site x. There
are several sites x+ but a single x means: ``x-Xian-Xianyang "594"
(Shaanxi) 34N12-108E54`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, Sept 23 at 2159, nosig from VOT English direct, but
*2200.3 cuts on JBA carrier with Doppler flutter, bad prop? Yet Spain
q.v. is inbooming on 17855 et al. By 2203 recheck, 11785 is off, so
another occasion trying to come up on 11785 but failing. Something`s
always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2261 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
September 22 at 2157 the 2130 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.003-,
S9+5/10 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Sunday September 22 at 2330 on WRMI 7570, S9/+20/35
into Maryland SDR altho aimed NW.

Also confirmed UT Monday September 23 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S8/9+10
into Durango2 SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday September 23 at 0305 the 0300 on Area 51 via
WBCQ 6160 -70 Hz = 6159.93, S9/+10 into Georgia SDR, but JBA direct.

Also confirmed Monday September 23 at 1938 the 1930 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 6160.001+ at S9+15 and 3975.003- at S8/9+10 into UTwente.
Next:

0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW;
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?];
2000 UT Tuesday IRRS 1323-Italy;
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;

** U S A. UNIDENTIFIED, at first: 9475, Sept 23 at 2208, zero signal
from this WTWW direct, but 9930 is on. However, as I tune across the 9
MHz band at 2209-2219, I encounter numerous extremely distorted
spurblobs, cadence of modulation is talk but totally unreadable, quite
broad and shifty so no exact frequencies pinnable. Circa: 9416, 9546,
9676, 9682, 9692, 9802, 9828, 9918, 9943, 10059. I compare these on
second radio to the only bigsigs on band at this time, 9930 WTWW, 9350
& 9980 WWCR, and there is NO match. So I suspect it`s the 9475
transmitter haywire again. At 2302, all clear, no 9475 nor spurs
direct. Not paying close attn but at 2332* noise surge as 9475 carrier
has been on but off again. By Sept 24 at *0011.5, 9475 on for half a
minute; *0013 on again with open carrier, soon turning up mod of PPPP
and stays on. At 0018, bandscan without any of those spurs while 9475
remains clean. Oops, 9475 cuts off again suddenly at 0024*. Cuts back
on at *0028.7 JIP PPPP again. 0058 usual QSY announcement to 5085,
which comes on about *0059. Stays on past 0150 more or less OK but
some clunking sounds (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9395, Monday Sept 23 at 2303, WRMI VG direct with `On the
Media` soliciting SW reception reports and even audios about SWLing,
2305 into regular opening of show which is about disappearing and
endangered weekly alt newspapers such as The Riverfront Times, St.
Louis which was recently sold to who knows what and everyone fired!
`OTM` has several times on the WRMI skedgrid, but not this one!
Supposedly at 2300 Mon it`s `Viva Miami`, i.e. expendable, at 2315
`Midnight Cry Ministry` and at 2330 `Alameda Bible Fellow` which are
surely paid for. Not rechecked until 2340 when in fact it`s a
ponderous preacher, I think ABF, certainly not OTM, so it did not get
played for a full hour! System G sked shows OTM Mondays 2100 and UT
Tuesdays 0200 on 9395. OTM originates at WNYC: let`s hope it survive
the major cutbacks there. I haven`t got into the habit of listening to
it on WRMI, but really should if there`s a reliable complete hour for
it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1470, Sept 23 at 0506 UT, ``1470 and 100.3, WMBD`` ID
immediately upon tuneacross: Peoria IL, U4 5/5 kW. Somewhat surprising
as NRC Pattern book shows very tight lobes a bit CCW from N/S day and
night; but radio-locator shows only slightly favoring N/S and not
notched thisaway. Website has no ``about us`` or station history; have
wondered what call could signify: maybe, ``We Might Be DX``. Here`s a
history,
https://fromthehistoryroom.wordpress.com/tag/1470-wmbd/
but not about the callsign; however, can it be coincidental that one
early announcer was Milton BudD?! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13790, Sept 23 at 2205, S9/+10 of dead air with Doppler
flutter, maybe mix with trace of mod? EiBi shows CNR1 jammer and Sound
of Hope starting at 2130; also listed is Ifrikya FM, Ouargla site,
ALGERIA, at 1900-0300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
