Glenn Hauser logs March 26-27, 2023  View Printable Version
Tuesday, March 28 2023

Logs
** CHINA [and non]. So what`s holding up on 16m in A23 after 0000 UT?
Only JBA carriers March 27 at 0017 on 17560, 17580, 17880. HFCC: 17560
USAGM Tinang, Philippines in Chinese, ergo also jammed; 17580 CNR from
LIN site; 17880 CRI Portuguese from Beijing site aimed NW toward
Brasil (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 6000, March 27 at 0028, will RHC be in English here
as early as 0000 in summer? No, undermodulated Spanish at S9+20/30 and
6165 is not on. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 9700, unlisted
frequency from RHC recently in Spanish or English is now occupied by
VG Romania in Spanish at 02-03 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, March 27 at 0631, R. Rebelde S9+20/30 but distorted.
Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9884.958, March 27 at 0027, dead air of S9/+15 direct,
something new about to sign on? No, still dead past 0100. Suspect it`s
Radio Cairo since also -42v Hz off frequency; and indeed ERTU is in
HFCC A23 on 9885 as 2330-0045 to CIRAFs 13 & 15 from Abis, 125 kW, 252
degrees in Arabic. At 0059 I try Maryland SDR, where it`s S9+10/20 and
-45 Hz offset. Still going at 0115, but cuts off at 0116*.

I suspect it has finally switched to 9860, which was supposed to start
at 0045 in Spanish until 0200. I retune immediately at 0116 to 9860
and there it is, same signal level, same dead air, same offset until
cuts off at 0207*. For further checking, also A23 sked: 2115-2245
still 9440 English, 2215-2330 9900 Portuguese. Obviously two
transmitters would have to be working at 2215-2245 if both were to be
simulheard, unlikely. One of them used to be about +2.5 kHz (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 17460, March 27 at 1522, algo JBA but stronger
than JJBBA on 17480. Presumably one is Dengê Welat and the other the
Turkish jammer. FWIW, HFCC A23 shows nothing on 17460, 17470 or 17480,
but somestuff somewhen on 17475, 17485, 17490.

At 1800 into UTwente, two very strong on 17470 & 17480 not QRMing each
other; I hardly care which be which. At 1847, still separate, 17470
much stronger. But by 1905 both on 17480 making a fast SAH. UTwente
Synch reads +6 Hz, and then +10. Songs are dominant, but still could
be either.

Next check UTwente at 2038: they are separate again, both quite
weakened into the night: 17470 talk, 17480 music. Then at 2040, 17480
starts declaiming, I guess Recep? No, at 2044 on 17470 a music liner
like I hear on VOT English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 13840, March 27 at 0632, RNZP is here ex-13755, just
as VG, S9+20/30. HFCC A23 as of today shows it registered available
1830-0800. On RNZP own sked, only: 0559-0858, but DRM at 1859-2058.
Why move off 13755? Nothing between 1600 & 0900. Adjacents? On 13760,
nothing 06-09; on 13750 only Romania Sundays only 07-08. But:

``13840 kHz suffers from co-channel QRM {from what??} between
0600-0800 UT. I have checked my own KiwiSDR, as well as KiwiSDRs in
Kyushu Japan and Indonesia. However, it seems that it does not affect
the listeners in Australia and the Pacific and the QRM are too
noticeable. yogi_miaow (QTH Hong Kong)`` on the WOR iog (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 18, March 27 circa 1600 UT, SCRIPPS non-cable news
channel is now on virtual 62-5 via KOPX OKC, just switched from 62-6,
why? And it was originally on 62-7. I check the entire lineup per PSIP
labels:
62-1 ION
62-2 Bounce
62-3 CourtTV
62-4 Grit
62-5 SCRIPPS
62-5 Jewelry
62-7 ShopLC
62-8 HSN
Rabbitears.info already shows same lineup; also icon that 62-1
transmits secondary audio, something I have not explored in a long
time. Pressing the SAP button on the STB remote makes it toggle
between English and Spanish labels -- but both are speaking English
only, during the commercials running when I try at 1740 UT, and still
so when back to `Criminal Minds` drama.

My old Set Top Box remembers to intersperse some other virtual 62s out
of RF47: I don`t even remember what that was. But searching out a
2014y log of mine, that fits for KSMO-TV in Kansas City. Now that`s
one of the still few ATSC 3.0 stations I could not decode, on RF 32,
virtual 62 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** ROMANIA. I don`t have RRI`s A23 frequencies memorized, but soon
encounter them in bandscanning: March 26 at 0020 in English on 11620,
S9/+20, and at 0025 on // 9550, S9/+10 but low het perhaps Brasil. In
Romanian, at 0022 on 11945 equal level to 11620; // 9730, S9+10/20
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. At 2046 March 27 I check UTwente for SNR reception, not
expecting the best as it`s generally too close for HF skips: NO signal
on 17855 for NAm, but 17715 for SAm has weak sig. 15520 for ME is fair
- and no CubaRM; 11670 for Af is best but with squeal, always the
worst in NAm. Then I check Virginia SDR: 17855 is indeed OFF - great
start for the season with English coming up at 2200 ex-2300; 17855 was
on *March 26, Englishless Sunday. In VA, 17715 is S4/S7 about equal to
15520 as `Españoles en la Mar` hour is concluding.

From 2202 I`m trying again for English: still no 17855 anywhere; 15520
is sufficient to Maryland SDR, S5/S9, and I stick here since it`s a
very interesting interview about the Spanish language with someone
from Scotland who is a member of the Real Academia Española, Alexis
Furman? Spanish is now the second-most spoken language in the world
after Mandarin, by 600 megapeople including 500M native speakers. EUA
will soon be second-largest SS country after México, overtaking
Argentina, Spain. Is now official language in 20 countries, adding
Guinea Ecuatorial. Is easy to learn, very logical, unlike English et
al. Discussion of keeping accents, including a few cases where they
are used to distinguish `same` words with different meanings such as
solo vs sólo, mas vs más. Each SS country has its own Academy and they
all coöperate with the RAE. A congress this year has been quickly
rearranged by Spain due to unrest in Perú (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TAJIKISTAN. 13809.966, March 27 at 1518, JBA talk off-frequency.
HFCC A23 shows at 1500-1700, USAGM Chinese Mandarin via DB site. A
jammer would probably be more accurate (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, March 26 at 2157 I`m all set for VOT`s new English
to N America frequency, via Maryland SDR. Nothing until chops on
slightly late about *2200:20 as horribly accented YL is reading
schedule. No problem from 11780 Brasil - weak signal there, might not
even be on. Mainly listening to UBMP this hour, I catch her horribly
accented sign/off at 2253 when she cites only four English broadcasts
with new times and frequencies in jumbled presentation, not including
this one! 1230-1330 15450; 1830-1930 5945 Eu; 2030-2130 9875 SAs;
1630-1730 11660 ME. Chopped off at 2254* before IS can complete only
once. Something`s awry in Ankara, erroneous in Emirler.

Quick check March 27 at 2201: 11785 is VG into UTwente, but some
splash from 11775 Chinese, also VG into Maryland SDR, but I`m mainly
escuching Spain, the two insisting on Englishing us at sametime. At
least there is no more CCCCCCI on 11785 like there was on 5960.
Sign-off and presumably sign-on continues to omit this very broadcast,
rather four others. Once off by 2254, Brasil is a bigsig on 11780, but
not a problem earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [non]. 12095, March 27 at 1528, B-B-C chimes at S8/S9, 1529.5
opening in Korean - one language BBC has not yet abandoned, sked
1530-1830, 250 kW, 25 degrees from SINGAPORE, so carries on well to
CNAm far beyond Korea North (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2183 monitoring: confirmed UT
Monday March 27 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, VP vs noise level despite S9/+10
direct, blasted by noise first 14 seconds.

Also confirmed UT Monday March 27 from 0304 on WBCQ Area 51 after some
songs on 6160 minus 67 Hz into Maryland SDR at S8/9+5. Next:

0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035 USB [low power]
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Has now been updated for European DST changes, not yet NZ

Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support
is appreciated; this week from Gerald T. Pollard, Raleigh NC, for a
generous quarterly check on a US bank marking the Vernal Equinox, to
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA,

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9455, March 27 at 0620, this WRMI is off again despite 24h
schedule, while 9395 & 9955 are VG. 9455 also off at 1526 while 9395
is on. Something`s odd at Okeechobee (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, WTWW-2 continues to be silent as of UT March 27.
George McClintock updates us: he is back home after hospitalized with
COVID, hopes to continue recovering. Maybe will be able to go into
station tomorrow. Parts from China to get WTWW-1 back on air still
have not arrived, maybe in a week or two.

Earlier from him with photo: ``This BARIX box will decode the internet
stream of Pastor Peters programs. The old Media player has caused many
drops outs of the program requiring a restart of the player. The BARIX
box will not have this problem. It will be installed shortly. George
McClintock 3-22-2023`` Front panel also labeled: EXSTREAMER 110. One
can google all about it; typical price $ 305 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9836 USB, March 27 at 1525, 2-way in Spanish (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Subject: [WOR] RE - Glenn's log March 26 - Echo of Hope - VOH

> ** KOREA SOUTH. 9100, March 26 at 1523, no signal here nor 9095 nor 9105. Ron Howard says Echo of Hope has
> left 9 MHz for 7720, also tried others on 7 MHz. 9100+/- was useful propagation check (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Hi Glenn,

March 26 (Sunday) - Yes, from 0723 to 0755 UT, heard Echo of Hope - VOH, still on 7720 kHz. (ex: 9100); the weekend
only reading of a portion today from Chapter 14 of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (segment starting with "Elixir
of Life, which will make the drinker immortal"); program starts and ends with the same theme music; fair reception; too
early for the other frequencies. https://www.ircambridge.com/books/Book1-Harry-Potter-and-the-Sorcerers-Stone.pdf
contains the whole book online.

Seems perhaps VOH has permanently settled on this new frequency?

BTW - Radio Vanuatu not heard on any of their usual frequencies from 0645+ UT, March 26.

Aus/NZ).
Best wishes and 73, Alan Roe

** ALGERIA [and non]. 17600, March 26 at 1507, no signal from TDA, but
algo on 17605. That would be Vatican site, while HFCC A23 now shows
Béchar 17600 only at 09-11 & 18-21:

21550, March 26 at 1509, Qur`an and Arabic talk, as TDA Béchar is now
here at 1100-1800, 300 kW at 131 degrees. It`s the OSOB except for
algo on 21690, surely France in Swahili (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Mar 25 checking for LRA36 already
confirmed on air this Sat from 2055: Not audible at 2226 direct, but a
trace S1/S2 = noise level at 2310 on my N/S antenna. 2312 music; 2327
JBA, but no signal into Argentine remote by 2333. 2336, o there it is,
JBA even there, maybe the remote acting up. Others reporting it past
0230 Mar 26 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 1610 kHz, March 26 at 0637-0638 UT, dead air obviously from
CHHA, again, and probably long before & after (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. 11675, March 26 at 1511, Chinese with CCI: this
hour now sked is USAGM in Mandarin via Saipan, so CNR1 jamming (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, March 26 at 0622, RHC English S9+20 with sufficient
modulation, all other frequencies off. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 13605, March 26 at 1501, R. Martí on A-season
channel, ex-13820 where the wall-of-noise jamming remains, none heard
yet on 13605. Stupid Cuban Commies never catch on to these totally
predictable seasonal changes, same for years (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EAST TURKISTAN. Reason for my standard denunciations of XJPBS and
CRI relays via Urumqi or Kashgar, ``Land of imperialist ChiCom
genocide against Uyghurs and other Moslems`` ---

``March 23, 2023 --- Hearing on Uyghur Forced Labor Camps in China

Witnesses who were detained or directly impacted joined human rights
activists and others to testify on the detention of the Uyghur
population in forced labor camps in China. Topics included torture,
organ harvesting, reduced birth rates of the Uyghur population, and
other human rights violations as well as U.S. supply chains and
technology. The Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party hosted
this hearing.

For quick viewing, C-SPAN provides Points of Interest markers for some
events. Click the play button and move your cursor over the video to
see the . Click on the marker to see the description and
watch``

Audiovideo totals 3 hours; full texts available in translation. The
term `genocide` is not avoided. I caught the last hour of this on
CSPAN Saturday night. No repeats are scheduled in the following week.
I note that there is universal bipartisan concern about this, and am
pleased to laud the numerous Republicans appearing. Search CSPAN on
Uyghur for dizaines of other audiovideos (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH. 9100, March 26 at 1523, no signal here nor 9095 nor
9105. Ron Howard says Echo of Hope has left 9 MHz for 7720, also tried
others on 7 MHz. 9100+/- was useful propagation check (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 17460, March 26 at 1508, two weak signals
colliding as the radio war between Dengê Welat and Recep`s jammer,
which could also jump elsewhere below 17500. Arthur Pozner, near NYC,
told the WOR iog, ``Denge Welat on 17455 kHz at 1800 UT, while the
Turkish jammer is on 17480`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NETHERLANDS. 6020 & 11730, March 26 at 0619, JBA carriers direct,
maybe from 1 kW Delta Radio International reported active now. HFCC
shows Korea S and Vietnam also on 6020 but well into the dayside;
11730 also NHK Arabic via France until 0620 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NEW ZEALAND. 7440, March 29 at 1522, JBA carrier presumed RNZP,
ex-7390 with nothing; 7440 now sked 1259-1650(Sat -1755). Another
change is 13840 ex-13755 at 0559-0858. Full sked:
https://www.rnz.co.nz/international/listen
Note: in one more week NZ goes off DST, back to UT+12, so many
domestic programs from RNZ will be one real hour later, but the
frequency sked may not change (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. A-23 changes now in effect from SNR, March 26: at 1503,
15520 is S8/S9 off the back to ME. Cuba also registered 15520 at 19-21
with ITU, really to collide? By 1950 March 26, only Spain on 15520.

17855, March 26 at 1506, RNE is S9/+10 to NAm, 17715 to SAm is JBA,
11670 to Af is JBA carrier. As always in A-seasons, 17855 worx much
better in our mornings than 9690, but may not hold up into the
evenings. Needs at least two bands over such long spans, day into
night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, March 25 at 2226, no signal yet from VOT English to
N America, altho it`s March 26 in Emirler; surely will start later UT
March 26, ex-5960 in B-22, ex-9830 in A22, also one UT hour earlified.
Finally! escaping the RTTY on 9830 which often runs past 2200. But now
subject to ACI from 250 kW Brasil 11780, as I already hear tuned to
empty 11785.

5960, Mar 25 at 2307, JBA carrier direct so still here for the last
time. Via UTwente at 2354, S9+30/35 with IS playing, but gone by 2357
leaving only Chinese from XJPBS; no extraneous German (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR) See EAST TURKISTAN

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2183 monitoring: confirmed Saturday March 25
at 2230 on WRMIs: 15770 S8/9+15 direct despite off the side, but 5850
JBA direct despite aimed thisaway: too much daytime absorption and
will only worsen into summer.

Also confirmed Saturday March 25 at 2331 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+18
into nearby remote by groundwave, about 20 minutes into so started
circa 2311, instead of nominal 1930. Vern Jackson meanwhile explained
this was due to an automation mixup and the other airing would be at
0411 UT Sunday instead of 0315; axually confirmed starting at 0409,
S9+20 into nearby remote. These unstable WOR times are caused by
widely varying durations of previous ham shows.

Also confirmed UT Sunday March 26 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S8/S9 into
Georgia SDR, blasted by noise burst first 14 seconds. Next:

2100 UT Sunday IRRS 1323 & 918? & 207?-Italy
0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW
0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW
0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, Australia 5035 USB [low power]
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW

Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support
is appreciated; this week from Gerald T. Pollard, Raleigh NC, for a
generous quarterly check on a US bank marking the Vernal Equinox, to

** U S A. Special MW DX tests publicized from two Kentucky stations,
UT Sun Mar 26 at 04-06 UT: 990 WWKY and 1150 WMST. I first check
Lexington remote at 0401, immediately hearing Morse code IDs on 990;
and at 0402 on 1150. CPC info never mentions that the same two ran DX
tests last April. I heard them then, but did not request proxy QSL
since I did not record them according to requirements. The arranger
then offered to help me QSL them direct, but nothing came of that.

At 0528 UT March 26 I try for them direct on the DX 398 to minimize
N/S signals from CBW and KSAL. 1150 has various prolonged tones, maybe
WMST; need to tune 1150 USB to avoid KSL IBOC noise circa 1147,

At 0529, 930 is making it, VVV VVV VVV DE WWKY WWKY WWKY a few times.
I think something else followed the calls, uncopied.

At 0558, on the R75 with E/W longwire, alternating hi- and lo-pitched
tones but forgot to note which frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
