Logs
** NIGERIA. 7255-, Oct 25 at 0655, VON is on at S6/S7 but just barely
modulated.

7255 minus 67 Hz = 7254.933, Tue Oct 25 at 1713, VON is ON into Canary
SDR, S9/+10 but just barely modulated in presumed English, with
squeal, useless. Well before 1730 it`s off. 1825: still off.
Something`s abysmal at Abuja.

VON might as well give up totally on SW. So do I for them. There is a
live stream, English span still presumably 1630-1900, at:
http://www.radio.garden/listen/voice-of-nigeria/k05gCdlw
At 1744 `Women & Development` is ending. 1746 `Diplomatic Suite`. 1900
ending ``60 Minutes`` sign-off does not mention SW 7255! but app and
stream. 1901 into percussive IS and Fulfulde. This via their
slow-loading website with lots of stuff, but no plain old program
schedule, linked from WOR Hitlist:
https://www.von.gov.ng/
Only other link on Hitlist is to their FB, nothing since Jan 2021!:
https://www.facebook.com/news.von/
but they also mentioned a different? FB I didn`t copy (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 350 MCW kHz, Oct 25 at 2126 UT, RG, OKC is on again but
JBA, while I am not hearing 255 MCW, SW, StillWater (Glenn Hauser,
Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Oct 25 at 2013, REE NAm frequency still off (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 383 MCW kHz, Oct 25 at 0620 UT, CNP, 25 watt ND beacon at
Chappell, Nebraska, which is in the SW corner right next to the NE
corner of Colorado. And mixing with another, partial call #WL?
Nonesuch listed on 383, but on 385 there is UWL, 25 watts in New
Castle, Indiana. My local line noise level in the 370-420 area must
have relented a bit. Heavy storms on the radar map in NE TX not the
problem I expected. CNP rarely heard, last logged Dec 5, Nov 15 & 13,
2021. UWL last logged Jan 24, 2018 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 356 MCW kHz, Oct 25 at 0624 UT, ODX, 25 watt NDB at Ord,
Nebraska.

353 MCW kHz, Oct 25 at 0633, LI, 400 watt NDB at LIttle Rock,
Arkansas; but I was tuned to 351 while 350 RG OKC was rarely absent
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2161 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday October
25 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S6/S9 direct. Next:

2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
*7780 still not restored as of Oct 23

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:

A noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated.
Thanks this week to Andy Reid, Ontario, for a contribution via PayPal,
not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com

Or by money order or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684,
Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 9955, Oct 25 at 0216, this WRMI is still off, but
not the Cuban pulse jamming! That`ll show `em! 9395 & 9455 are
nominal. 9955 still off at 2120 Oct 25, but back on by 2155.

As of 1530 UT Oct 25, there had been *no* updates on WRMI FB since Oct
21, unusual. Finally here`s one circa 2130 UT Oct 25:

``WRMI Radio Miami International 30m · A quick update on hurricane
repairs at WRMI. Our crew continues to work on repairing transmission
lines for 7570 and 7780 kHz. They have been quite difficult to
reconstruct, but we are hopeful that one or both frequencies will be
back on before the end of this week. We will keep you updated.``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17790, Oct 25 at 1450, WRMI OC on already, S9/+10; by 1458
the IS & ID loop is underway prior to R. Africa service (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9940, Oct 25 at 2016, WTWW is on with rock in English,
S9+40; at 2125 WTWW singing ID, ``Voice of Freedom, WTWW 9940`` and
``a song from the Ukrainian Top 50``, but Ted doesn`t name or
translate it nor cite the number. Is there a specific sked for ``V of
Freedom``? From homepage wtww.us --

``We are broadcasting to Ukraine on 9940
From 1pm CDT to 6pm (or later) [18-23+ UT]
Listen to our Direct Feed to 9940 here:
Click the picture to listen`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, Oct 25 at 0657, RV is back, in Bislama talk; had
been missing since Oct 20. It`s almost QSY time, so I tune to 11834
USB waiting for it to pop on 11835 --- but never heard well past 0700.
Then I check 7890 and 0701 there it is while 7260 is off. So the
second harmonic of 3945 is propagating, but not the third.

Later, Lúcio Otávio Bobrowiec in SP reports to the WOR iog: ``Hi all,
R. Vanuatu on 7890 and 11835 at 0841, 25/10 poor signal, male talks.
11835 better here. 73 Lucio Brazil``

And this: ``Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, Logs in Friol, NW of Spain,
Tecsun PL-880, cable antenna, 8 meters: 7260, Radio Vanuatu, Port
Vila, 0630-0659*, 25-10, extremely weak today, unreadable comments by
male and female, songs. Heard from 0630 when closed VoA with French
program on 7265. 11835 (3rd harmonic of 3945), 0732-0821, 25-10,
comments, male, female, songs. 15321`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Oct 25 at 0218+;
with likely sources from listings based on power, longitude: note, I
am making no claims, not counting countries or anything, but FYI.
855-2 Spain; 891 Algeria; 999 Spain; 1215-2 UK, Spain; 1413 superpower
Pridnestrovye or Oman; or Spain (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs October 23-24, 2022  View Printable Version
Tuesday, October 25 2022

Logs
** CUBA. 13632 approx., Oct 24 at 1454, RHC spurblob with F# tone is
JBA, so weak because 13700 AM fundamental is also weak, S1/S3. Then
found an even weaker match at +68 kHz, 13768 approx. They run past
1501 but all gone by 1524 recheck. It`s been months since I`ve logged
such blobs plus multiples further out, but at least they`re trying.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025 & 5040, Oct 24 at 2318, Rebelde & RHC are still off,
nothing into Bonaire SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Oct 24 at 0624, VON is on at S9+10/20 direct but
just barely modulated. No signals into Canary SDR at 1730-1820, 1846
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Oct 24 at 2032, again today no signal from REE to N
America direct. Also at 2225 during token English Monday, nor audible
on 15520, 11940 direct. At 2300 I`m on Maryland remote just in time to
hear good S6/S7 signal on 11670 as it`s signing off, 2301 into earworm
IS: for Africa, normally the weakest over here, but now the only one
audible, so 11940 at least is also AWOL. Something`s not right at
Noblejas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2161 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
October 23 at 2000 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1323 kHz only, S9+5/15, over
lite CCI presumably Smooth Radio, Brighton, England.

Also confirmed UT Monday October 24 at 0030 on WRMI 5950, S9/+10 into
Maryland SDR. 7780 still not restored. Just in case, I checked all
WRMI frequencies for WOR at 2230 and 2330 Oct 23, but nowhere.

Also confirmed UT Monday October 24 from 0301.9 on WBCQ Area 51, S8/S9
on 6160 minus 64 Hz = 6159.936 into Maryland SDR following ancient
show talking about calling 5.1 MHz broadcasts ``Area 51``, and WBCQ
singing ID. Next:

0030 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW [missed last week by mistake]
2230 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed by Cuba]
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
*7780 still not restored as of Oct 23

Thanks this week to Andy Reid, Ontario, for a contribution via PayPal,

Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 5850, Oct 23 at 2335, WRMI with opera in Italian;
i.e. R. Prague Int`l relay in `English`, usual Sunday classical music
default. But via Maryland remote, there is a `roar` in the background.
At first I wonder if a transmission defect, while // 5010 has no such
roar. Still so on 5850 after 0000 Oct 24. And the roar is much
stronger vs WRMI at Bonaire remote. So I am suspecting Cuban jamming
altho that`s nonsensical with no exile programming on 5850 and very
little Spanish otherwise. However, there is no pulsing in the roar as
usually the case of Cuban jamming. Some utility QRM? At 0042 direct to
OK, here in the boresight of WRMI`s very strong signal, I don`t hear
any. Needs further investigation!

I meant to check 5850 the next day Oct 24 just before *2200, but
missed it; circa 2030 there was nothing unusual. I am checking remotes
at 2302: Bonaire OK at first until I compare to 5950 & 5010 which are
less noisy. By 2320 into Maryland, 5850 again has some background
noise like yesterday.

BTW, for a while WRMI itself was carrying R. República at 0300-0400
three nights a week on 5800, risking attracting jamming there, and
beyond those hours; but has vanished from current skedgrid. B-22
relays via FRANCE are already on the sked showing Cuba target on 9490,
but not what (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955, Oct 24 at 1531, this WRMI is off, while 9395 & 9455
are on and nominal. Ditto at 2031, 2229. Had been 24 h but skedgrid
now shows a gap at 15-21. Could be that #3 is OK but logistically
needs to be off while other antenna lines are being repaired (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330.114, Oct 24 at 1532, WLCR/WBCQ is on in English but
still way off-frequency. 2030 recheck it`s off again, repair work?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** ALASKA. HAARP is very busy now. Amanda Dawn Christie has a new art
project, Ghosts in the Air Glow, explained here:
https://ghostsintheairglow.space/transmission/october-2022

``Ghosts in the Air Glow: is a transmission art project working with
the HAARP Ionospheric Research Instrument to mix audio and images at
the liminal boundaries of earth’s atmosphere and outer space.
Composition No. 2 is a half hour transmission artwork that will be
transmitted four times from the HAARP Ionospheric Research Instrument
during the October 2022 research campaign. Air glow and Luxembourg
experiments will be paired with the AM modulation of Narrow Band
Television (NBTV) video art, spoken word, and sound art created by
Amanda Dawn Christie``

I monitor the first one for 0600-0630 UT Oct 23, mainly via:
https://ghostsintheairglow.space/
These two YT streams depend on someone else`s tuning on the ground at
Gakona, not necessarily coinciding with exactly what is transmitted.

Here`s how I attempted to log those; first, the one on the left:
0600 4850, 0604 4850 off, change to 3300; 0612 back to 4850; 0615 to
5400; 0617 4850; 0618 off, to 5400; 0622 off, to 4800 vs CODAR, error?
0623 to 4774.098 tuning around; 0624 on 5400, 0628 off, to 4850,
0629.7* all off.

The right one: 0600 5400, 0606 9500, 0612 4850, 0615 4800, 0617 4850,
0627 4845?, 0628 4850.

Those do not match exactly the tentative frequencies on the page:
4.85, 5.84, 9.5, 3.3 MHz.

9500, Oct 23 at 0608 is the only frequency I hear direct, carrier at
quick check. Nothing audible on the lower ones.

As for the content: audio: mostly noise, but musical intervals,
including singing, presumably ADC herself. Nothing recognizable until
the final tune I was trying to place. Eric Fetters-Walp in WA does:
``To my ears, that final tune at 0628 UTC sounded very much like a
version of "Hush Little Baby (Mama's Gonna Buy You a Mockingbird."``

The right one only has a visual display of rapidly changing blocks at
various scales of gray, which seems to be continuous regardless of
frequency changes. I guess this is the ``art``, but certainly conveys
no information, to me.

Further airings are Oct 24 at 0600-0630; 25 & 26 at 1630-1700 UT.
However, some of the times during the latter are outside, typos??
HAARP website showed 0530-0600 for the first one, obviously wrong, as
there was also a countdown clock leading to 06:00:00.

You would not know it from ADC`s publicity, but this is only one part
of extensive HAARP experiments now underway:
https://www.gi.alaska.edu/news/haarp-begin-largest-set-experiments-its-new-observatory

That page has no details of times and frequencies. A more explicit
press release has appeared in the WOR iog and also here:
http://www.arrl.org/files/file/News/ARRL%20Letter/2022-10-20/HAARP%20Transmission%20Schedule%20October%202022.pdf
Without specialized scientific equipment, we cannot make anything out
of the results, so look forward to official explanations.

One frequency listed for 22-24 UT Oct 22 was 9600, but I heard nothing
at 2315/2330 into KFS remotes. Walt Salmaniw, BC, did hear something
there later. Tnx to Richard Langley for alerting us about ADC`s opus
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5040, 6000, 6060, 6100, 6165, 11670, 11760, Sunday October 23
at 0703, all RHC frequencies are off when weekly Esperanto would
otherwise emit. I do hear it at 1503, S7/S9 on 15140 and much better
on S7/S9 11760, still claiming that the first airing be at 0800. In
another biweek, that time at least will again be correct. Something`s
always wrong at RHC. 5025 Rebelde also still AWOL at 0702 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN. 9615, Oct 23 at 0706, medley of classic rock tunes, Japanese
announcements, S7/S9. Yes, it`s NHK direct at 0655-0900 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Oct 23 at 0657, no JBA carrier from R.
Kiribati, presumably another silent Sunday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Oct 23 at 0658, no signal from VON. Nor at 1830
into Alicante, Spain SDR altho Dan Robinson is listening to some
Europirate on 6931+. Canary Islands SDR which I always check first,
was tied up by its German ham (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Oct 23 at 1507, No signal direct from REE NAm
frequency by when it should be on, weekends. Leaves us with offtheback
from 15520 to ME, and too weak 11940 for SAm. Something`s always
nogood at Noblejas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830.021, Oct 22 at 2223, VOT at S9+45 into UTwente, OK
modulation except for some hum, concluding feature sounding like
``Gripping Piles`` -- am fairly sure neither word be correct, but tnx
to her heavy accent, and impossible to find any English program sked
on website. https://www.trtworld.com/ --- a few years ago, VOT RADIO
on SW was merged into the mainly TV website, and now there is a blank
space on WOR HITLIST for English programming. Apparently the only
radio programming it displays is for Tuerkiyeish language. 2229
multi-lingual ID filler reel; off at 2254*. Something`s awry at Ankara
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K [non]. 11930, Oct 23 at 0700, JBA carrier amid Cuban jamming,
surely not R. Martí at this hour: Aoki shows BBC French via ASCENSION
daily at 0700-0730: another frequency management failure, not avoiding
this frequency like the plague, since Cuba will jam it whether RM be
on it or not. I see others blithely using 11930 even when both RM and
jamming are on it: Turkey, Sa`udi Arabia. Yes, their circuits and
targets may be diverse, but why risk co-channel to a radio war? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2161 monitoring: continued from
last report: the unscheduled appearance Saturday October 22 at 1814 on
IRRS 7290 & 1323: indeed it was a fragment, first half only, cut to
something else at 1830, but not before had concluded my ITALY item
about the late Dario Monferini.

Also confirmed Saturday October 22 at 1950 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO,
S9+18 into nearby SDR, about 23 minutes into so started circa 1927.

Reconfirmed NOT on WRMI 15770, Sat Oct 23 at 1930, despite staying on
the websked months after replaced by a gospel huxter.

Reconfirmed NOT on 7780 or any other WRMI frequency at 0030 UT Sunday
October 23.

Confirmed UT Sunday October 23 until 0348 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, so
started circa 0319. Next:

** U S A. 17790, Oct 23 at 1506, WRMI is S9/+10 with R. Africa
service to SAm, much better way over here than ex-21525 still lacking
a proper antenna. WRMI itself presents no specific program sked, but
AFAIK it`s 100% gospel huxters. The gals at PanAm are jumping for joy:
