Friday, February 04 2022
** CUBA. 6100, Feb 3 at very late hour of 0749, RHC English still on here, S9; also 6060 with humbuzz S9+10; no others but 5040 still on in Spanish at 0754. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Thursday, February 03 2022
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RCUSB, Feb 2 at 1500, LRA36 is on again this summery Wednesday, via Brasil SDRs: Pardinho is worst, not best, with too much noise; Campo better, but Brasília #2 best. 1535 closing, ``hasta la próxima``, Antártida theme song, but --- starts over with ``sign-on`` at 1538.7, ``a partir de ---``, multilingual IDs, but chopped off air at 1547* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 9700, Feb 2 at 0725, S9+10 of dead air from RHC, while all others of The Cuban Five on 5 & 6 MHz have been offturned. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9899.606v, Feb 2 at 2134 check, via UTwente, R. Cairo is S9+25/35, with scratchy modulation attempts much like yesterday, or just silence except for some hum. Comments on the WOR iog: From Dan Robinson, ex-VOA: ``As Glenn likes to say -- there is always something egregiously wrong at Radio Cairo. Perhaps it's time for the DX/SWL community to pitch in for a special delegation of knowledgeable persons to visit to help them out?`` But Christian Milling of SWService in Germany replies: ``I've offered them help a dozen times, either having a look at the SW txes or bringing on a reliable live stream or checking their leveling issue --- Forget it. It will never change`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NETHERLANDS. 5954.987, Feb 2 at 2341, pop ballad in English, S9+10/15 via UTwente, first noticed as ACI to Turkey/China on 5960, q.v. EiBi says Sunlite Radio but only at 04-17; while Aoki shows overnite on days 3 & 6 = Tuesday & Friday but this is Wednesday going into European Thursday: 5955 0500-1800 HOL ICON BV.Sunlite Radio Dut Overslag 1-7 5955 1800-0500 HOL ICON BV.Sunlite Radio Dut Overslag 36 But WRTH 2022 shows overnight 1800-0600 only on Saturday as a daggered irregular test: does that mean Saturday into UT Sunday, or Friday into UT Saturday??? 500 watts. SHN`s latest Feb list of Euro private SW stations says 24/7, plans daily 0400-1700. Location is Westdorpe, which is in SW Neth right on the Belgian border. Operator clarified that it is barely on the Dutch side. That`s 238 km = 148 stmi from UTwente at Entschede. As if confirming at an awkward distance, 2348 ID fades right as the name is said, and then stays downfaded; 2359 announcement definitely in Dutch; 2401, YL ID as ``This is Sunlite`` and back to music (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 515 MCW kHz, Feb 2 at 0715 UT, PN, 25 watt NDB at Ponca City is back! After two days AWOL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 1640 kHz, Feb 2 at 0713, KZLS Enid is back to talk show, and running about 1 second behind same on 1650. What`s that? `Red Eye Radio`, via KYHN, as listed on RER affiliates website. Allegedly in Ft Smith AR, it`s really in Sallisaw, OKLAHOMA; so no need for any [non]s here. DXers and editors who ought to know better seem oblivious to this distinxion. BTW, I don`t hear it much, day or night, for a station so close; 1650 usually dominated by Iowa, or even Colorado or Texas moreso than KYHN at night (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Feb 2 at 2306, token English from REE is VG S9+15/22 into Maryland SDR, as Justin Coe is interviewing a flamenco/fusion guitarist and composer, José Luís Montón, whose name makes a bilingual website, never mind the accents? Recorded before Xmas; too much talk, too little music until 2317 - but just a pause before more interview. 2320 axually asks him to ``play 15-20 seconds of his beautiful sweet music``, but fortunately lasts a bit longer. More like a full minute! Closes with a full song by his collaboratress in latest release (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, Feb 2 at 2305, no VOT signal into UTwente, but a trace of something; 2318 now nothing but the Chinese, S9+15/25 from EAST TURKISTAN, standard denunciation. 2331 recheck now atop the ChiCom is a tone on 5959.887 per Sync when tuned to 5960; but also locks on 5960.888 if tuned up to there: so that means a 1 kHz tone but not centred on 5960.000, from VOT. Tone stops at 2338. And now sync lox a tad above 5960.000 as Chinese again audible. Kuwait is also well-known for its 5960 offfrequenciness but never at this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2123 monitoring: ``From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees. Dear Glenn: World of Radio #2123, confirmed, below with Details: 5850, confirmed hearing #2123, 0159, January 28 UT [Fri] 7730, S9 signal, variable, 0030, 0044 (45433), 0059, Jan 30 UT [Sun] 7730, confirmed hearing #2123, 0059, January 31 UT [Mon] 9955, stormy conditions, 2330, 2336, S 9 signal, 2359, Feb 1 UT [Tue] 5850, slight QRN, 1030, 1057 (55433), 1059, Feb 2 UT [Wed] (Lemke, Richard -AB)`` Also confirmed here when I happen to awaken, VG Wednesday February 2 at 1045 on WRMI 5850. Also confirmed Wed Feb 2 at 2228 the 2200:21 on WBCQ 7490.1v, JBA direct in hi noise/low signal level. At first suspected WBCQ off. Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. Thanks this week to Michael Beu, Austin TX for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com and says: ``Hey Glenn: Thanks for all of the timely DX/RF technology info that WOR provide this year. WOR/Club bulletins more important than ever with demise of WRTH.`` One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702. New WOR 2124 should be ready early UT Friday February 4 for download and first airings on WRMI 5850 & 7780 at 0130; if we don`t lose power during winter storm (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0018 UT February 3

Glenn Hauser logs January 31-February 1-2, 2022 |

Wednesday, February 02 2022
** AZORES. 6114, Feb 1 at 0707, RTTY INTRUDER rapid FSK is S9 vs much weaker 6115 Nikkei Japan. Had hoped the RTTY were gone for good, last heard on January 13 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** BRAZIL. 9666.561, Feb 1 at 0656, R. Voz Missionária, nominal 9665, now more than halfway to 9667 from 9666, S3-S6 but VG modulation with music, the main/only? overnite ZY on 31m. Have not noticed them on 5939- lately (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EGYPT. 9899.604, Jan 31 at 2200, UTwente is locking on to an S8 signal here but only hearing tones; it is the exact favorite channel of Radio Cairo. 9899.605v, Feb 1 at 2136, via UXTwente, R. Cairo English is S9+25 but only modulation is occasional scratches and some hum. Something`s always egregious at Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 515 MCW kHz, Feb 1 at 0701 UT, PN, ND beacon at Ponca City, is OFF. Log search indicates last outage briefly had ended on August 16, and always heard since until now. Still off at 2326 check. Can this be coincidental?: 14 hours earlier there was an earthquake not far away, also felt in Enid, but not by me. USGS: ``Magnitude 4.5 - 7 km NW of Medford, Oklahoma, 2022-01-31 17:10:21 (UTC) 36.851°N 97.794°W 7.9 km depth``. Blamed on disposal wells: ``UPDATED: OCC orders disposal wells near quake epicenter to shut down --- Kat Jeanne | Enid News & Eagle Jan 31, 2022`` https://www.enidnews.com/news/updated-occ-orders-disposal-wells-near-quake-epicenter-to-shut-down/article_b296387a-82bb-11ec-8e33-771cddd06187.html ``OCC directive shuts down 7 wells near quake epicenter Enid News & Eagle 2 hrs ago`` https://www.enidnews.com/news/local_news/occ-directive-shuts-down-7-wells-near-quake-epicenter/article_184e1eaa-83af-11ec-8d19-b73a2ee0d4ed.html 25-watt PN was my strongest beacon, even while 341 EI Enid, and 255 SW Stillwater were on, both still missing; while 350 RG OKC remains. Few other OKies are ever heard, sometimes 267 HET Henryetta. Another check Feb 2 circa 0245 UT, still no PN - a complete beacon bandscan, still with elevated line noise level about 350-420 kHz, finds hardly anything out of state, just the beefy WG Winnipeg kilowatt dashing in on 248 MCW. This may be due to this WWV info: ``Solar-terrestrial indices for 01 February follow. Solar flux 129 and estimated planetary A-index 7. The estimated planetary K-index at 0300 UTC on 02 February was 4. No space weather storms were observed for the past 24 hours. Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be moderate. Geomagnetic storms reaching the G2 level are likely`` (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 1640 kHz, Feb 2 at 0250 UT, surprised to hear KZLS Enid with silly ballgame, Tulsa vs Wichita State. KZLS recently started simulcasting with co-owned 96.9 KQOB as ``The Eagle``, but now they are split again, KQOB still with Alex Jones nonsense. I was not aware that either ever broke far-right talk format or ex-rock music, for SBGs, but could easily have missed them (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** PERU. 4810, Feb 2 at 0246, JBA carrier direct, maybe trace of modulation, presumed R. Logos active again. Had been missing from bandscans mostly later at night. LSB required to avoid Martinique STANAG on plus side. At 0326 trying the Duitama, Aguadas, Caldas, Colombia KiwiSDR, but it`s broken again with NO SW signals showing on the H2Ofall but plenty of noise. It was getting WRMI/WOR/9955 just fine 3.5 hours earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.004, Jan 31 at 2349, via UTwente, VOT is on today VG S9+35 but the transmitter with squeals. 2354 sign-off claiming this has been the 1330-1430 broadcast on 12035. Only fragment of IS before 2355* chopped off air uncovering Chinese mixing with music, but seems one transmission rather than QRM; 2400 timesignal a sesquisecond late as received roundaboutedly. 5960, Feb 1 at 2325, NO signal from VOT direct. Evidently came on later: 2347 check via UTwente, now S9+30/40, good modulation level except for squeal, sign-off reciting entire English schedule and obviously wrong note that the 22-23 & 03-04 are recorded, those being the times they would and will be on in A-seasons. Then to IS which keeps playing after 2356 when German IDs start to be inserted twice a minute: I count six of them; 2400 timesignal mixes with that from CCCCCCI, not quite synchronized; sign-on in German with irrelevant satellite parameters, announcers never aware they are accidentally on SW at this hour. Still on past 0003 but not for full hour. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2123 monitoring: confirmed Tue Feb 1 at 2349 the 2330 on WRMI 9955, S9+25/30 into Aguadas, Caldas, Colombia SDR, which is back in business; jamming audible way under. SAM mode shows 9955 carrier is -2.4 Hz low, but tuned to 10000, shows WWV as -3.5 varying to -4.0 Hz: I think not! That means this WRMI really be about one sesquiHertz plus. Next: 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. Thanks this week to Michael Beu, Austin TX for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com and says: ``Hey Glenn: Thanks for all of the timely DX/RF technology info that WOR provide this year. WOR/Club bulletins more important than ever with demise of WRTH.`` One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. (7490.1v), UT Tue Feb 1 at 0000, WBCQ webcast with secret semi-repeat of `Uncle Bill`s Melting Pot` from fullcast 25 hours earlier when I was distracted. This week, ``Oy Canada``, presented by two self-confessed Gentiles, with guest Fred Waterer, about Jewish entertainers, actors and comedians, from Canada. Great fun, starting with O Canada sounding like Hatiqvah; William Shatner monolog about how yes, he *is* Canadian, etc., until abrupt chopoff at 2330 for `Camp Constitution Radio`, this time without a commercial prologue (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0348 UT February 2

** AUSTRALIA. 2368.43, Jan 31 at 1618, continuous Greek songs segued, no announcements, not even a ToH R. Symban ID past 1700; still 1748+ via SW Sydney SDR http://sdrvk2ari.hopto.org:8073/?f=2368.43amz10 which I found already tuned to that exact frequency but no one else using it now, steady S4-S5 but noisy; tnx to WOR iog tips from Brian Powell, Sydney who had not heard it before but found it was indeed on the air at 1023; also reported by Kari Kallio, Finland, and Zacharias Liangas, really in Greece, all using nearby remotes. May be sporadic, but certainly running overnight now. Little chance of hearing it direct even if I were DXing pre-sunrise. Ron Howard also provided news about this Jan 30: ``Noted this unique posting today - https://radio.chobi.net/DX/bbs/?res:5025#5025 "AUSTRALIA: today 30 January 2022 18h50utc, weak but Radio Symban heard with the kiwisdr VK2AAK at Near Forster, New South Wales, AUS. According with the stream: https://radioau.net/symban/ Nico (from France)" Very strange! Ron (Calif. - recovering from a bad fall, but making progress!)`` --- but no frequency from Nico (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 6660 RCUSB, Jan 31 at 0715 UT, CHU pips JBA on 2 x 3330 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA [and non]. 7365, Jan 31 at 1445, S8/9+20 Chinese music and excited talk, CNR1, presumably live simulcast of CCTV New Year celebrations, as warned by Ron Howard were expected on many frequencies around 12-16 UT. Also similar but not sure if // on 9390, huge collision, i.e. jamming RFA Cantonese via Tinian; and 9605, vs VOA Chinese via Philippines. I also looked for WOOB CNR1 jammers, if not Firedragon, above & below 11 and 13 MHz, but nothing. Have these diminished, or is it just lack of propagation and/or scheduling. I think a lot of them used to close at 1400; but it will take the imposition of DST here to get me up that early (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ETHIOPIA. 7110, Jan 31 at 0418, R. Ethiopia quite blatantly INTRUDING with a big S9+20 signal fading to S7 in an Ethiopian language; nothing on 7140 or 7180 from Eritrea (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MADAGASCAR. 11824.96 approx., Jan 31 at 0424, S4-S7 medical discussion about strokes, as MWV vies with VOHA for the Christian-subjected early audience. I suppose it`s African Pathways Radio, but this broadcast does not appear in WRTH 2022 page 485; in so-called ``winter`` schedule, the only English is at 03-04 on 13760. We are referred to ALASKA for more, but page 462 does not show any `KNLS` programming via Mad! The English at 18-19 on 13670 and 20-21 on 11965 are absent from both. Seasonal nomenclature smax of hemispherism or northern temperatism (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6925 AM, Jan 30 at 2303, pirate music; 2343 ballad, 2346 maybe `When A Man Loves A Woman`. 0024 January 31, S8-S5 of classic rock. 41 posts here say it`s Mix Radio International which started as unID long before by 1751 on 6875, moving to 6925 at 2229: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,92341.0.html and finally went off at 0132 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 517 MCW kHz, Jan 31 at 0721 UT, a second JBA NDB under my strongest `local`, 515 PN Ponca City OK, where I am tuned USB. Tough copy but maybe RN. Fortunately, PN makes long pauses. DXinfocentre roster shows most likely it`s FN, 517, 25 watts at Clinton / Hills, Iowa. Only one dit difference. Previously I had also pulled on 515, OS at the other OSU, in Ohio (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2123 monitoring: Also confirmed Sunday January 30 at 2100 on AM Italia, 1323 kHz, but with QRM into UTwente; usual nearby Noale SDR offline. Tuned in before at 2058 something in English about carbon monoxide detectors, UK phone. Also confirmed Sunday January 30 at 2330 on WRMI 5950, good direct. Also confirmed UT Monday January 31 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG direct. Also confirmed UT Monday January 31 at 0230 on WRN N America webcast. Also confirmed UT Monday January 31 at 0401 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6159.94, S9; preceded by coughing fit at 0358-0401 interrupted by WBCQ ID at 0400 and a different one just before WOR. Per A51 sked http://zappahead.net/#2022-0129-area51 the coughing fit is from W.D.C.D. Radio at 0330. Next: 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?] 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. 7780, Jan 31 at 0416, S9+6 of dead air from this WRMI. 0400* is the scheduled closing. I missed all the excitement but WRMI and apparently much of Florida had power failures early Sunday due to frigid weather, as described on disgraced FB; I guess the juice froze in the power lines. WRMI Radio Miami International 16 hrs · [ago, how precise!] Power is back on at WRMI -- It has been a brutal night and morning (Jan 30) here at the WRMI transmitter site in Okeechobee. Electrical power was out for about three and a half hours due to an extreme freeze in this area. And when the power returned, we had many problems with computers and one transmitter damaged. At this time everything is working normally again, except that we have a problem with transmitter 14 that we hope to have resolved in time for this evening's transmission. WRMI Radio Miami International 20 hrs · Power is out at WRMI! At approximately 0745 UTC Sunday 30 January, we lost all electrical power at the WRMI transmitter site in Okeechobee, Florida. This is the reason that all transmitters and our Internet stream are off the air. Florida Power & Light is dispatching a team to our site to try to restore power as soon as possible. The power outage is caused by the near-freezing conditions at our site tonight, which is a very unusual situation here in South Central Florida. A. Another follow-up on the WOR iog to my WCLV report; yes, I now recall it had been on 95.5, and I believe originally a commercial classical station before joining the Ideastream empire: ``My father has older reel to reel airchecks of WCLV clearly announcing its frequency as 95.5 MHz back in the older days. I remember growing up in Cleveland falling asleep to the radio on sleep timer tuned to WCLV. The 7-way swap in 2001 saw them picking up the former WAKS in Lorain on 104.9 which is where their signal is found now with very little channel separation from country station WKKY in Geneva. Ideastream added the station to its stable of properties in 2011. WKSU was the latest acquisition by Ideastream and was announced last year. It has a translator network blanketing most of the northeastern quarter of the state. WCPN would join WKSU and the rest of the network. Ideastream owns WCPN-FM, WVIZ-TV, WKSU-FM (and translators), and WCLV-FM plus a stake in the “Ohio Channel” television channel it runs in partnership with Ohio Government Telecommunications. Northeast Ohio is still a shifting media market.
