** CUBA. 11760, March 2 at 0748, S9+20 of dead air; AND 11670, S9/+10 of dead air; obviously RHC which may have been modulating English or Spanish before 0700; while no RHC signals remain on 5, 6 or 10 MHz bands. Something`s always wrong at RHC. The Other Side:
``One year of war in Ukraine: a timeline of the Cuban regime's support for its Russian ally --- Havana has tried to ease the UN’s pressure on Moscow and has echoed Putin's disinformation in Latin America. DDC Madrid 01 Mar 2023 - 01:47 CET Russia's war in Ukraine is one year old. Since February 24, 2022, more than 42,200 people have died and 14 million have been displaced in what Vladimir Putin defined in his speech as a "special military operation" in defense of the Donbas region. Beyond the human and material consequences for Ukrainians, the first territorial invasion of a sovereign state in Europe in 80 years has had international repercussions, from food to energy. What the western democracies condemned from the very first moment, and continue to today, with heavy sanctions against the aggressor, was justified by the Cuban regime, also from the beginning of the conflict. Havana has been in charge of reducing pressure on Moscow exerted by the United Nations, and has disseminated the disinformation spouted by Putin across Latin America...`` https://diariodecuba.com/cuba/1677631672_45522.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, March 2 at 0732, JBA carrier from R. WORLD OF RADIO 2179 monitoring: confirmed UT Thursday March 2 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/20 direct; for this airing, WRMI inserts a few seconds of intrusive music between ID and WOR starting. I`m here for an unconfirmed DX test by KXST Las Vegas, sibling station to 720 KDWN, both about to go dark. I never hear any sign of KXST with gambling format or anything. Instead, it`s ``Good Time Oldies``, 1140 KZMQ IDs heard at 0701, 0707. That`s a 10 kW *daytimer*, non-direxional in Greybull, Wyoming, but address in Cody some 40 miles west. I see it`s been reported at night before as early as 2020, and as recently as last month. But not this: ``1140 KZMQ Greybull, WY old slogan: “Good Time Oldies”, new: “Star 92.9”`` as per Broadcasting Info, IRCA DX Monitor Feb 25 --- no mention of the latter, still G-T-O. Meanwhile on 1140 also noted: 0701 ABC news, 0709 Coast-to-Coast, both likely WRVA Richmond VA; 0710 XEMR Monterrey, Spanish from south plugging its platforms but asserting that AM is still primary, probably a gospel huxter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2180) ** VANUATU [and non]. 7260, March 2 at 0740, R. Vanuatu back on tonight, S8/S9 with JBA talk probably cyclone warnings; aside Nigeria 7255- dead air. Others` reports: Ron Howard: ``7260, Radio Vanuatu: Feb 28 - From 0742+ UT; tuned in to hear emergency sirens followed by multi-language cyclone warnings for Tropical Cyclone Judy and advising people to have plenty of water, food for 2 to 3 days, have candles, batteries, etc. due to electricity possibly being off for several days, and for information, listen to TV, Radio Vanuatu and check the Internet; followed by more sirens; 0750, the usual advertisement for the "mobile stage" for events in Vanuatu and PSA for mental health; 0831, more sirens and cyclone warning/advisories. March 2 - From 1002+ UT; emergency sirens and advising people to listen to TV, Radio Vanuatu and the Internet for the latest cyclone info; 1007-1017, sounded like the Prime Minister's speech to the the nation (poor audio quality); 1026, "Tropical Cyclone Warning Number 4" for cyclone Kevin, giving location, direction, and speed. https://www.vmgd.gov.vu/vmgd/index.php/forecast-division/tropical-cyclone/warning . Map showing the location of cyclone Kevin - https://zoom.earth/storms/kevin-2023/ RV totally blocked at 1057, with very strong sign on of CRI, in Japanese (*1057-1257* UT). Ron, California`` And Tony Rogers, UK, BDXC: ``Checked for Radio Vanuatu on the Te Kauwhata KiwiSDR in New Zealand at just after 1200 UTC today (2 March) and found them back on 7260 kHz with an emergency broadcast now in place for Tropical Cyclone Kevin. 7260 kHz also has CRI Japanese between 1100-1300 (from Xian 500 kW) but Radio Vanuatu still well audible on this SDR. 73’s Tony`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2180) UNIDENTIFIED. 9510.1, March 2 at 0759, S9 carrier with hum, one zero-beat about +0.1 kHz. It seems no one else is interested in pursuing this? Ah, here is one other report: ``9510 S8 hum back; missing a few days; 1723, 3/1; 1438, 3/2 (Harold Frodge-MI)`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 9895 USB, March 2 at 0756, JBA 2-way seems like Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0211 UT March 3 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Glenn Hauser logs March 1, 2023 |

Thursday, March 02 2023
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Wed March 1 at 2110 tune-in late via Argentine SDR, LRA36 also starting late with Morse code ID and standard spoken sign/on, S8/9+10. Someone thought it would now be pure USB but I confirm there is still a JBA reduced carrier when tuned to 15475.00 USB. But too weak for the Kiwi in Sync modes to lock onto it. 2112 credits, into usual discussion, mentioning ham activity from 6 to 160 meters - but nothing specific known about any further 14336 USB transmissions. 2116 contact info via whatsapp, email only. 2117 into efemérides for dates in February and I wonder if this is really a rerun. I have to go out so log nothing further but others report it cut off around 2130 but resumed later. I checked next at 2209 direct, nothing. Already Feb 28 via Horacio Nigro, a further broadcast is planned for Sat March 4 2100 until 0300 UT Sun March 5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** EGYPT. 9440, March 1 at 2224, R. Cairo is on, S9/+20 direct but JBM except for some hum. Something`s always egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GUATEMALA [non]. I have let UTwente run on and no Verdad. There has been some heavy ute activity in the area which AMsync will lock onto, such as 4053.876 at 0445 UT March 1. That`s yet another obstacle which Dr M does not understand. He will need 4055 to be a clear frequency worldwide - highly unlikely, not even in a broadcast band. Here is TGAV`s advance notice of a ``4055 via satellite`` test for Feb 28, in translation: "We need to be ready from 22:00 UTC (4:00 Guatemala). I can't be sure about the exact time the transmission will start, because the Technicians and Engineers will be making all the previous connections of the equipment. But, the broadcast will be long, like 12 consecutive hours, in part to see if the equipment can handle it and not get hot. After this test in Guatemala City, we will have to move all the equipment to the city of Chiquimula, install everything again, and do the final tests, until the new Radio Verdad Internacional is inaugurated, via satellite. The signal is expected to come through strong and clear. We await your reports, preferably with recorded reports. It has been a great struggle for 6 years, but I think that now we have finally triumphed, because 4 days ago we did a test transmission for 3 and a half hours, and we received an excellent report from La China. We will reach Central America, Mexico, the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Thank God and the efforts of our Engineers. When we inaugurate the new International Truth Radio, via satellite, we are going to announce all the instructions and explain how this new invention works. This is the same project that, initially, was called "Radio Verdad Transmundial", about which we received many excellent reports, but Radio Transmundial opposed us, and forced us to change its name, despite the fact that the law was on our side. Thank you, God bless and keep you. Dr. Edgar Amílcar Madrid Radio Truth International Chiquimula, Guatemala, C.A." But our further occasional chex of 4055 directedly or remotedly got nothing well into UT March 1, like Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, also reported at 0613: ``As I think it was expected, 4055 kHz, checked directly here in the NW of Spain and in various remote receivers in Europe and America and no signal.`` Guess what: later at 1701 UT March 1 via Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain: ``Mail from Radio Verdad about the test transmission: Google translation: "We had problems with Network Transmissions: They didn't open the channel for us, because they hadn't received the payment money. We are waiting for it to be enabled. Let's wait and I'll report. Edgar Madrid, Radio Truth International" "Tuvimos problemas con Network Transmissions: No nos abrieron el canal, porque no habían recibido el dinero de pago. Estamos esperando que nos lo habiliten. Esperemos y yo informaré. Édgar Madrid, Radio Verdad Internacional"`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, March 1 at 0718, JBA carrier from R. Kiribati, but stronger than usual; and no other 9/kHz splits. Gary Pence, KM5X, detected it at 0552 ``the hard way`` via Oahu remote, tuned to 844 USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Mar 1 at 2300, SNR English opening with preview about some youth volunteer project in Nepal, but I don`t have time to listen. Usual // in diminishing strengrh on 12030, 11940, 11685 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [non]. 5960, March 1 at 2300 & 2325, no signal from VOT English direct, presumed another off-day but did not check UTwente until after 2400 when there was nothing but XJPBS. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2179 monitoring: ``from: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees, Dear Glenn: Confirming World of Radio #2179, WRMI: 5850, 0130, 0159 (55433), S9 signal, 0159, February 25 UTC 2023 [Sat] 9395, 0130, 0158 (45433), S6 signal, 0159, February 28 UTC 2023 [Tue] 9395, 0030, 0044, 0059 (55433), 0059, February 22 UTC 2023 {meaning March 1?] [Wed] (Lemke, Richard -AB)`` Also confirmed UT Wednesday March 1 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, VG S9+20/30 into Missouri SDR. Missed checking Wed March 1 at 2200:21 on WBCQ 7490; did anyone hear it? Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html New WOR 2180 should be ready for download by 0200 UT Friday March 3 and first SWBC at 0330 on WRMI 7780. Like our website, a noncommercial service for which financial support is appreciated, this week from Greg Putz, KI7UED, Bountiful UT, ``Thank you for your work!`` with a generous check to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA One may also contribute by MO or cheque on a US bank to above address; or via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 720 kHz, March 1, much-anticipated DX test from KDWN, Las Vegas NV, just before it closes down forever, 0759-0809 UT. I am writing the following from my log notes, deliberately before reading what anyone else says about it: first on the R75 with E/W lw, nothing but WGN as expected. Then on my DX-398 with WGN nulled as much as possible - yes, they did not turn off carrier or modulation for this historic event. That means nulled toward NE/SW and favoring NW/SE while LV is almost due west, so that worx. By 0802 the Star-Spangled Banner is being sung with heartfelt emotion by a male with orchestra -- got to be KDWN signing off forever. Weak but readable presumably 25 kW non-direxional day pattern. At 0803 some digital beepery, presumably SSTV which you certainly don`t often hear on the MW band. At 0805 Morse Code, a fairly long and seemingly repetitious message but I DO copy the KDWN ID several times as well as 73, some Q-codes, like QRA? concluding with QST at 0808.7*. Never heard any voice ID; maybe it uttered at the start. A bit later some music probably from another station, like the black-water QRM. I`ve heard KDWN before, but tnx for the test. I did not record it. Now, what else? Not a single report of this on the WOR iog: maybe I should have pre- reminded them. Plenty on the IRCA iog. Played the Nevada state song before the SSB. The beepery was SSTV; someone posted a very fuzzy image. Sibling station 1140 KXST was also testing, and maybe it, or they will test again tonight? 11 pm PST mentioned = 0700 UT. Reception was spotty; 720 made it to Florida, but not Alberta, etc. Via Wayne Heinen, NRC: ``KDWN and KXST May final Test Tonight {UT March 2} --- ``From irca.io group --- UNVERIFIED information posted by someone on Radio discussions suggests that KDWN is still on as is KXST 1140 and they`ll run the DX test again again. This was posted by "DNezTech" "Shutdown will be tonight. The same program will air again on KXST at 11pm and KDWN just before midnight. There are free apps and software to decode the Slow Scan TV transmission in the Scottie 1 format."`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, March 1 circa 0730, no signal from R. Vanuatu, which had been reliable lately; Gary Pence, KM5X, agrees at 0713: ``No Vanuatu on 7260 or any other freq right now!!`` Later, Tony Rogers reports to British DX Club: ``No trace of Radio Vanuatu today (1 March) at 1830 UTC (which is around the time their daily schedule normally starts) on 7260 kHz or on the alternative frequencies of 3945 and 5040 kHz (and associated harmonics); checked using the Brisbane KiwiSDR in Australia. Live stream at https://www.vbtc.vu/en/listen-online-2/ still operational. Maybe Tropical Cyclone Judy has knocked the shortwave transmitter off the air. The last time I checked 7260 kHz was at 1100 yesterday (28 February) after which it continued with its emergency broadcast. Ron Howard posted this link on Glenn Hauser’s World of Radio iog which follows the course of the cyclone: https://zoom.earth/storms/judy-2023/ 73’s Tony `` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 2580, have heard no further traces of mystery harmonic as of March 1, nor has Gary Pence, KM5X: ``UNID 2580 khz not heard since I recorded it. I sent Manuel, NW Spain, a copy to listen to closely`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0050 UT March 2 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
