Please note and spread the word - for those not on a list where my almost-daily all-band but mainly SW log reports appear -- or for those who are but find this a more convenient archive, weekly merged roundups of all these reports in their original form are posted early every UT Thursday via:

Glenn Hauser logs May 14-15, 2024  View Printable Version
Thursday, May 16 2024

Logs
** ALGERIA. 17599.998, May 15 at 1738, Ifrikya FM, S8/9+5 of music we
think of as `Horn of Africa` but this is not from the Horn; have also
heard the style well inland into Sudan/South e.g. I shall keep an ear
on it via UTwente for some English to come: not at 1803, just music
still at 1808; French ID at 1814; 1820-1825 brief floating English
segment: about Nigeria (not Algeria) economic problems, naira, IMF,
etc. YL has a good accent but speaks too fast making her hard to
follow; also some overmodulation distortion and annoying continuous
music mixing. I suspect that some ESL speakers try to impress us with
their fluency by speaking as rapidly as possible rather than aiming
for clarity. Gives her name and ``signing off`` already at 1824; then
ID in English, ``from north to south, east to west`` with FM
frequencies 105.6, 98.?, 93.2, 89.9 in different cities including
Oran, 1825 back to music and French talk segments past 1854 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11934.998, May 15 at 1737, Riyadh with Qur`an,
S9+5/15 into UTwente but noisy and undermodulated; rather than
horrible buzzroar at the moment. Presumably still Rep. of Yemen relay;
if you listen long enough, you should hear an Arabic ID mentioning
Yemen (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SLOVAKIA [non]. Re far-right PM Fico, shot in an assassination
attempt, I mentioned previously in connexion to trying to take over
RTVS and consequently RSI: I pronounced his name incorrectly as
`Fee-koh`, but the -c- is really pronounced as -ts- unless there be a
cap on it, -ch-.
https://mylanguages.org/slovak_alphabet.php
In the news, BBC? I heard the ts, but PBS Newshour was still saying
Fiko. We should know better if we paid attention to RSI via WRMI,
where they probably pronounce him correctly despite antipathy. English
from the source: 1900 Internet only; 2200 on 5850; 0030 on 15770,
7730?, 5850; 0130 Tue-Sat on 5800; 0300 on 7730, 7780; daily u.o.s.
per skedgrid, not all confirmed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. REE chex before 18 UT May 15 find it nowhere into UTwente,
since the WHem channels do not start earlier on weekdays and the two
EHem channels are still OFF. At 1805, 17715 for SAm is on, VG
S9+30/40, as is 17855 for NAm, S9+20 while 15520 & 15390 are silent.
Eds. note: do not change ``NAm`` to Nam -- it means North America with
a capital A, not Nam as in Viet!

17855, Wed May 15 at 2200, token English from SNR, sufficient but
fadey direct into DX-390 portable: no news, but part 2 of Alison
Hughes` old report about US/Spain relations during the Cold War/Franco
era, including a nuclear accident (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 15 at 2200, VOT English JBA direct due to
noise level. S9+35 via UTwente from 2224 when measured, Badax
concluding algo, music. 2228 `The Middle East and Turkey`, about
relations with Algeria, which Turkey/TOE once ruled. Guess what: Libya
may be considered ME, but Algeria would really be pushing it.
Something`s always awry at Ankara. Series resumes next week, same
time, same day? 2233 music. 2242 `Sports Panorama`. 2249 music. 2253
no headlines, s/off as if just the 1230 on 17620. 2253.7 IS until
chopoff at 2255.5* in time to avoid extra German (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2242 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday
May 14 at 2330 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.002, S8/9+5 into
UTwente.

Also confirmed Tuesday May 14 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S6/S9 into Peoria
IL SDR.

Also confirmed Wednesday May 15 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany,
6160.000, S9+15 into UTwente, and switching to 3975.001, weaker S9+10
and a couple words behind: is that an artifact, really not
synchronized if heard direct on two identical receivers at once?

Also confirmed Wednesday May 15 at 2128 the 2100 on WBCQ 7489.928, VG
S8/S9 into NH SDR. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

Glenn Hauser logs May 14, 2024  View Printable Version

Logs
** AUSTRALIA. 28262 CW, May 14 at 2204, only direct signal on 10m,
beacon or phone in a quick scan, is JBA fading in and out here - long
dash of ~26 seconds and can`t copy it fully in maybe a semidozen
passes, but right after the dash there is VK###. WGB list shows only
this here or nearby, and with a 30-second dash: ``28262 VK2RSY -
Sydney NSW AUS QF56mh - #0 (10 Jan 2024) Note: ID + grid + 30"
carrier. Pwr 25w``. Meanwhile I was trying SDRs across the US, in
Maryland, Illinois, and two KFS in Californa, NW & SW antennas and
none were getting it except a trace at Athens, Georgia, about like I
had it. QRZ.com, nothing about a beacon: ``VK2RSY Australia flag
Australia, Amateur Radio New South Wales, PO BOX 6044, Dural Delivery
Centre, NS 2158, Australia`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [non?]. 17855, May 14 at 0640, JBA signal, the OSOB except
for stronger 17600 Algeria: so CNR1 jammer and/or RFA Mandarin via
TINIAN this hour only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17715.013, May 14 at 1914, REE S9+30 into UTwente. Now 17855
is also active, S9+5/15, but nothing on 15390 and 15520. Something`s
not normal at Noblejas. In Spanish, like `Tablero Deportivo`, silly
ballgame. Same situation at 2220 recheck during non-English on Tuesday
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 14 at 2200, VOT English, JBA carrier direct.
2230 into UTwente when measured, S9+35/45, badax talking about AI;
outro credit written by someone at Cambridge [mispronounced]
University, 2236 music; 2244 multi-lingual ID filler reel; 2246
`Turkey`s Geomarked [sic] Products` about tile, music; 2253 s/off by
non-badax YL as if only the 1230 on 17620. Something`s awry at
Ankara. At least they got the right season this time. 2254 IS until
2255.5* in time to avoid German (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2242 monitoring: Confirmed UT
Tuesday May 14 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9+10/20 into Querétaro SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday May 14 at 1319, JBA into Peoria SDR the 1300 on
WRMI 9955. Earlier was inaudible direct, confirmed on webcast, only a
traceline on waterfall into Maryland, no signal into Bonaire. Bad prop
and/or underpowered?

I had missed checking some times on SW Gold Radio, Germany:
Sun 2130 Shortwave Radio, Germany 3975 6160
Mon 0830 Shortwave Radio, Germany 6160
Mon 1930 Shortwave Radio, Germany 3975 6160
but seems it has been off the air:

``Yesterday (13 May 2024) Shortwave Radio/Shortwave Gold was
observed signing on for the day at 0657 UT on 6160 kHz with English
announcements superimposed on their signature tune - Candy Dulfer's
sublime saxophone solo "Lily Was Here". Time pips and BST/CET
timechecks at 0800 UT, followed by --- silence. Unmodulated tx on for
5-10 minutes then the plug was pulled, for the rest of the morning at
least. No trace of it this morning as of 0930 UT. David Kernick, Interval
Signals Online``

Next WOR chance: Tuesday 2330:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

Glenn Hauser logs May 12-13-14, 2024  View Printable Version
Tuesday, May 14 2024

Logs
** CANADA. 15034 USB, May 14 at 0142 & 0218, surprised to hear Trenton
Military day frequency, and with reports received! And not on night
frequency 6754 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, May 13 at 0600, S9+25/40 of dead air from R. Rebelde.
Something`s wrong at RadioCuba. Last few nights had been nominal, not
logged (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. Pulse jamming against nothing, May 13 at 0605, nor is any
target rationally to be expected at this late hour, on: 7355, 7365,
9490, 9565, 9955, 11860, 11930 strongest, 12060. None audible beneath
very strong Martíes really in use, 6030, 7335, 7435 (Glenn Hauser, OK,

Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** LIBERIA. 6050, May 13 at 0603, music S6/S7 direct, presumed ELWA.
Usually nothing more than a JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6955 USB, May 14 at 0145, dialog, OL deep southern
accent complaining with salty language, music in background, S9+30.
0217 recheck, rock at S9, OPOB. These say it`s WTF Radio Worldwide:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,129515.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, May 12 at 2209, SNR surprisingly strong, S9+10/20
direct, while little else beyond carriers from overseas on this and
lower bands. But it`s Sunday, so Spanish, not English (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Monday May 13 at 2200, NO signal direct from token
English on SNR to North America. Propagation OK, since the S American
frequency 17715 offbeam is quite audible. Nothing heard on the other
two, 15520 & 15390. At 2216 into UTwente, ONLY 17715.013, S9/+5 and
zero on the other three which are OFF. Somethings` nonfunxional at
Noblejas. Interview topic on an exhibition thru Aug 25, about city

direct, but 2220 into UTwente when measured, S9+30/40, `Letterbox`
already started, host talking about riding a bike, then acknowledging
mail, almost all QSL requests from: India, México, Eugene [sic] in
Moscow who is a fan of host, Pakistan, same Indian again, A. Klepov in
Moscow, Italy. 2234 ``goodbye, my lovely dear listeners, have a nice
weekend`` and as always concluding with an unID song until 2241 when

** U S A. 404 MCW kHz, May 13 at 0643 UT, JBA carrier, too weak to
