7290kHz, R. RRI Nabire Pro 1, Indonesia; 08/11, 0827 – 0847 same content described in the previous logs: music selections, islamic segment, music selections again, short male announcements between, at 0838 seems canned announcements or ID. At 0827 began to get understandeable, signal peak around 0835, but overral merit is poor (LOB-B).

RNZ Pacific schedule change today  View Printable Version
Saturday, November 12 2022

HCDX
Hi Walt,

I can confirm your antipode DX experience(s).

I use my qth in Eastern Thailand a couple of months per year. The calculated antipode location of my qth is close to Lima, Peru.

I discovered:
1. daily window to 60 mB Peruvians around 1100/2300 UT year round, best in Feb./March.
2. The maximum lasts up to 30 minutes with extraordinary signal level.
3. Still unclear: The diameter of this antipode spot, I expect not more than 300-500 km.
4. Seems to work excellent on 60m, tried mediumwave without success so far.

As Wolfgang mentioned the couple New Zealand <--> Central/Western Europe has been observed often.

The antipode location of most of "us" is in the middle of nowhere, where is no AM tx.

Example Radio Quillabamba 5025 kHz, rec. in THL, Perseus SDR + EWE:

Antipodal focusing  View Printable Version

Unfortunately the antipodes of most of N America is in the southern Indian Ocean lacking SW - or any - transmitters. Closest landmass is Madagascar. Will have to wait another few aeons for continental drift in our favour?

For anyone not clear about this, signals going out in any/all direxions are going to converge at the exact opposite point on the globe.

That was a head-scratcher, as back in Canada, it was a real DX target, and always battling Soviet jamming. There wasn't a hint of the latter in New Zealand. Poking around a globe, I realized that all signals from Spain (the former site of most of the RL transmitters to the FSU were located) were heading towards me at the antipode in New Zealand. Again, the Hawaiian Islands are approximately antipodal to that region of southern Africa. 73, Walt
